Firstly, I must thank Net Galley for the opportunity to read this book. I requested this book as soon as I saw it was available.

I have read a lot of the previous books by this author, and as always, this book is up to her usual high standard. I didn’t realise that this was a sequel but it didn’t detract from this story that I hadn’t read the previous book.

It has an exciting plot told in two time frames. It features the unsolved killing some 40 years ago of a young pregnant teen, Emily. In the present day, US Marshall, Andrea, is sent to protect a judge with connections to this case. A well written book which I read in a couple of sittings.

I have read all previous Karin Slaughter books and enjoyed them all. This is a follow on from the amazing Pieces of Her with the same main character of Andrea Oliver. Andrea is now a US Marshall who is sent to Guard a judge. The judge has links to Andrea’s past.
The judges daughter Emily had been murdered in 1982 when she was a pregnant teen.
The book is told in a dual timeline of the lead up to Emily’s murder and Andrea trying to find her way in the present. By discovering who killed Emily.
I liked the characters but was more engaged with Emily’s story. Still a great read.
Thanks to Harper Collins UK and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Karin Slaughter is one of those authors who's books will always be on my 'must read' list!
I'd been in a bit of a reading lull for a while and reading this, definitely brought me out, I couldn't put it down!
Loved it, definitely recommend.

Karin is the queen of shocking first chapters! This book starts off perfectly and takes you on an amazing journey - I could not put this book down. The perfect thriller for 2022.

This book follows our character, Andrea Oliver, previously in “Pieces of her” however, Andrea has changed massively as she is now a US marshal!

Around 4 decades ago, the ever popular, beautiful, pregnant and talented Emily Vaughn, was found dead. She had been receiving death threats but did not want to miss Prom .. it could’ve been a prank? … that’s what she thought.

This is a cold case … there has been no developments. However, Andrea would like to question Emily’s father. A well-known psychopath who has been imprisoned for years. Could he have done this?

Can Andrea discover the truth?
What really happened to Emily?

A twist you are not ready for.

Karin knows how to create suspense, shock and an eerie storyline. This book will leave you questioning everything you thought you knew. I have yet to give this author anything less than 5 stars, an immediate book buy author of mine.

You need to read this!

4o years after a girl is murdered, US Marshall Andrea Oliver arrives in Longbill Beach. Officially? She's there to protect a judge. Unofficially? She's trying to uncover the truth of the judge's daughter's death 40 years previous.

After a slightly slow start (which I later realised was partly because I was playing catch up on Andrea's history... I didn't realise this was a sequel, go figure), this was an enjoyable, tense and pacey thriller.
The back and forth between the past and present was nicely done. It served to flesh out the characters and give us, the reader, plenty of avenues for theories and suspects without setting them up too obviously as some thrillers tend to do. Emily is such a sympathetic and tragic victim, I was rooting for Andrea to bring not only her killer, but all those who harmed her along the way, to justice.
There were plot twists that I did not see coming but that served the story well, they were clearly well thought through and not just included for shock factor.
The characters were interesting, I especially enjoyed the dynamic between Bible and Compton (I would happily read a spin off centred on those two), and will most likely return to the first book to see more of Andrea and Mike.
The third act was especially tense and exciting, I literally could not put it down. There was solid pay-off for pretty much everything that was set up, plus a good cliffhanger for a sequel.

Overall, this hit all the marks I like a thriller to hit, its only real drawback for me was some clunky dialogue (and internal dialogue) here and there.

Thank you NetGalley and Harper Collins UK for my e-arc of this title, received in echange for an honest review.

This is a fantastic read. I read this book after watching Pieces of Her in Netflix and I am glad I did as this book follows on nicely (or you can read the previous book ;)). Lovely to read on about Andrea and her story as she turns into a US Marshall herself and has a gripping assignment of protecting a judge.
It's a great plot beautifully written with much depth in character development which I love.
This author is genuinely first class and I am delighted to have purchased the whole Will Trent series which I am saving to read for when I go away on holiday.
Could not recommend this book highly enough (after reading Pieces of Her of course)!

Karin Slaughter is one of my auto-buy authors. Whether it is a new Will Trent novel, or a stand alone, or an Andrea Oliver new novel, I am going to read it.

Girl, Forgotten is the second book in the Andrea Oliver series and it takes place two years after the events of Pieces of Her. Andy Oliver has just finished her training as a US Marshal and her first assignment is to protect judge Esther Vaughan who has been receiving threats. Her daughter Emily was killed forty-years earlier, the killer never found, and Andy has her own personal reasons to get closer to the judge and investigate her daughter’s murder. Andy and her new partner Leonard Bible arrive to Longbill Beach to protect the judge, but they also come across a series of suicides of young women who were volunteering at a local fava bean farm.

In 1981, eighteen-year-old Emily Vaughan discovers she is pregnant after attending a party with her friends. She doesn’t remember anything of that night, but she could never believe that any of her friends would hurt her. Shunned not only from her family and friends, but from the entire community of Longbill Beach, Emily is determined to find out who the father of her baby is.

The story is told from two different points of view and the chapters alternate on two different timelines. The plot is compulsive, dark, and gripping. Some of the themes can be disturbing and not easy to read (especially the way Emily is treated following her pregnancy), but luckily the new character of Leonard Bible, Andy’s US Marshal partner, brings some comic-relief moments with his relationship with his wife Cussy and his witty humor.

I liked how the character of Andy has developed since Piece of Her. Even though her past and the truth about her father still haunt her, she is more independent, determined, and she has found a job she is really good at. I really liked this version of Andy and I enjoyed how her relationship with her mother Laura has grown.

Once again, Karin Slaughter didn’t disappoint and created another thrilling and immersive story and I am already hoping for a sequel very soon… I want more of Andy, Mike, Laura, and Bible!

Gripping and twisty, as always Karin Slaughter grabs you from the first page and keeps you hooked until the end.

I really enjoyed this book, the characters were relatable and the storyline was brilliant. I usually enjoy Karin’s books and this one was no different.

I found I preferred the 1981/2 portions or this more than the present day. In these chapters there were some surprising twists and reveals. The pacing also felt a little better.
I did find at times the story went off track a little which took me out of the story a little. But the last maybe 30% really started to pull everything together.
I found myself trying to figure out the father and the killer. With so many suspects.

I hated how Emily was treated. Especially by the adults around her. How she was blamed and shamed for what happened to her. Zero support. She truly deserved better.

The book left off with a cliffhanger that made me want to continue this series. I want to know the secrets. Where the story with Andrea and her father is going.

This was a fantastic read from Karin Slaughter. She’s an auto buy author for me so I didn’t read the synopsis before starting it, I was really pleased to find it a follow up to Pieces of Her with Andrea having now become a US Marshal.

As someone from the U.K. I loved that it explained the role of the US Marshals. I got really invested in the paternity and the murder. I read this as a buddy read and there was a lot of discussion between us as to what was going on and who was responsible - and whether all men in the 80’s were misogynistic 🤬

Loved this book. Have read most of Karen slaughters books and this one didn’t disappoint. Could stop reading and finished In a weekend.

I have read a number of Slaughter’s books over the years and they never disappoint - this book proved why she really is queen of her genre. It is a hard-hitting, compelling read, full of well-drawn characters and with a plot that keeps the reader on their toes.

If you have read Pieces of Her, or seen the adaptation on Netflix, then you will already have met Andrea Oliver and this book also features her, though it works well as a standalone. Set across two timelines, the book goes back to the 1980s when a pregnant teenage girl, Emily, is brutally murdered on prom night. In the present, Andrea is assigned to protect a Judge who also happens to be Emily’s mother and Andrea has a personal interest in trying to find the truth behind Emily’s murder.

Told from alternating points of view, Slaughter masterfully manages the complex dual narrative with both storylines equally intriguing and ensuring the reader really gets to know both main characters and the background before the tension ramps up and the two strands dramatically come together towards the end. This isn’t always an easy read as there are some difficult themes dressed throughout the book - rape, abortion, teenage pregnancy cults and most of all attitudes towards women and if and how that has changed over 40 years, something that feels particularly relevant in light of recent developments in the US. That said it is not unrelentingly depressing, as Slaughter cleverly sprinkles some humorous moments throughout. With a supporting cast full of largely unlikeable and untrustworthy characters, it is a book that will keep you guessing - just when you think you have things figured out, it seemed like there was another twist.

Another great book by Karin Slaughter
Was great to read more about Andy as had just watched pieces of her on Netflix

Thank you to HarperCollins and Netgalley for the arc of this book.

Well Karen has done it again, I was totally gripped.

Girl Forgotten takes place after Pieces of Her which was also a Netflix series.

There are lots of twists and turns and it does held to read the first book but this was a great thriller and brilliant storyline.

Highly recommended.

This is the Second book in the Andrea Oliver series. Karin Slaughters books are always wonderfully written with characters so real that they become your best friend and worst enemy.
Andrea with her US Marshall training completed takes on her first assignment to protect a judge that has been receiving death threats.
A cold case, with links to Andreas father soon becomes the focus of the book, flitting between the 80’s and current day. After 40 years of this crime hanging in no mans land people are still clinging onto their secrets and lies. The plot weaves in and around several suspects but as always with Karin Slaughter you can never quite take what you read at face value. A fantastic piece of writing that will keep you out of breath trying to keep up. Loved it!

I believe that book is part of a sequel but I picked up the action pretty quickly and the book could be easily read as a stand alone. The book takes place in both the past and present. The story in the past centres around Emily a young pregnant girl who becomes pregnant after she is raped at a party. It is thought that the murder was the father of the baby who didn’t want it getting out. Emily was attacked, and was put in a coma until her baby was delivered. The story in the present is picked up with Andrea Oliver who has recently graduated as a marshal. She is sent to guard the judge who was Emily's mother but she has also a vested interest as the father currently serving time in jail may be her father of Emily’s baby.
I really enjoyed the story and it was a page turner till the end.

Karin Slaughter never disappoints. This book is brilliant! It is a gripping and dark crime thriller. But one of the things I enjoy most about the author’s writing is that she manages to introduce a relevant social/moral/political element without being patronising and this book is no different. The story’s conscience blends perfectly with the the thriller element of the story to make one well plotted book. This is a well paced read with alternating narratives between Andrea in the present and Emily in 1982. The story gradually unravels until past and present meet with plenty of shocks and surprises along the way.

Another compelling read from Karin Slaughter. I’m a big fan of her work, especially the Grant County books, but this standalone did not disappoint.

Intriguing, gripping and action packed, if you like crime fiction you won’t be disappointed.
