Instincts of a Talent Agent is non-fiction entrepreneurial advice by Marc Guss. The narrator, Mr. Guss, tells of his life in the entertainment business as an entrepreneur. He tells the reader about his startup and the key decisions he had to make to carve a path in the business. If you are wondering if you should take the free internship or the highest paying one, you may want to know what Mr. Guss did under similar circumstances. He tells the reader that they have to trust their gut feeling and be the best in the field.

I liked several things about the book. First, the work was exceptionally edited. It is rare to read a work and not encounter errors. Secondly, the practical advice in the book piqued my interest to keep on reading. Thirdly, I found work ethics where entrepreneurs and talents should avoid using others as means to their goals. Fourthly, I relished the credible advice of not making things personal.

There was nothing in this work I found to dislike. The work was methodically organized, and the stories involved life events of people and achievements.

I rate this business and entrepreneurial advice 5 out of 5. I found the work educative and inspiring. The writing used was assertive and firm, giving the reader confidence to think about their position and improvements they can borrow from the work.

Entrepreneurs, screen artists, audio artists, and show business people will connect with this work. I also recommend Instincts of a Talent Agent to motivational speakers and people who enjoy motivational books. They will find a wealth of information therein. Anyone starting a career will find this work delightful and helpful.

Instincts of a Talent Agent is an entrepreneur’s guide to a successful career in entertainment. Whether it be a career in music, film, or behind the scenes, Marc Guss offers advice along with personal stories from his own experience.

Instincts of a Talent Agent was a quick and easy read that offered very straight forward advice for those who are looking to work in the entertainment industry. I’ve always been intrigued by the business and it was wonderful reading about Guss’ personal experiences. I enjoyed the take away section at the end of each chapter which summarized key points. I also appreciated the “put it all into practice” section of the book. It’s a chapter by chapter guide that offers a brief summary of things to remember.

The most important take away from this book is to stay true to who you are. Guss emphasizes the importance of never sacrificing your authenticity, and I think that’s a beautiful message. If you are interested in working in the business or are curious like me, I highly recommend this book. Thank you to NetGalley and Cypress House for a copy of this eARC in exchange for my honest review.
