I have heard of the moors murders before but didn't know a lot about them. I enjoyed how this was inspired by a true story, which made me do my own research to learn more, which I love from a book.
I enjoyed following the characters and was eager to find out what was going to happen.
I liked the writing style and the author's descriptions of the Moors. It kept me wanting more. I would highly recommend.

The narration of this audiobook was totally brilliant and added so much to the emotional and tense side of this story. I found myself thinking about this book a lot, particularly with so much focus on Hindley and Brady.

Brilliant! An audiobook based on true crime that has the listener hooked with fantastic narration. I found it hard to press pause or stop to get on with other things. It’s a raw story of despair with enough untold elements, slowly revealed, to keep you guessing how it will end. I thoroughly enjoyed listening and providing my review; my thanks go to Bookoutre Audio for providing me with a digital copy.

The Hidden Child
By Rebecca Griffiths

In 1965, a little girl named Kathy was left in a car while her mom & her moms boyfriend went into the pub for a quick drink. When they came back out, Kathy was gone. Based on a true story, this is the story of Kathy, Connie (her mom) and how their family deals with the fact that they may never see Kathy again.

Even though I felt as though the story dragged at times, I still enjoyed listening to the audiobook.

Thank you to NetGalley & Bookouture for the advanced copy of the audiobook for my honest review of the story.

Inspired by the infamous Moors murders that were carried out by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley
in and around Manchester England in the 1960’s, author Rebecca Griffiths crafts an eerily evocative story weaving fictional characters into the real life horror that occurred. The audio narration was wonderful. Richard Burnip and Sarah Durham do a fantastic job capturing the many intonations, dialect and slang while inciting a constant sense of foreboding and despair. It was the unsettling miasma of dread that had me on the edge of my seat holding me hostage. I listened to this in two days the narration was that well done.

Thank you to Bookouture Audio, NetGalley and the author for the opportunity to listen to this advance listening copy in return for my honest review. All opinions are my own.

This book seamlessly weaves fact with fiction, focusing on the notorious Moors Murderers, Ian Brady and Myra Hindley. I was slightly worried before I started listening because I was afraid that perhaps this subject should not be fictionalised. But I needn't have worried because the author deals very sensitively with a difficult subject. The plot is fairly complex with several sub plots and I had to pay attention while listening. The author's portrayal of Brady and Hindley is so chilling that I had goodebumps. She also manages to portray the era brilliantly.

The two narrators, Richard Burnip and Sarah Durham, did a great job with the narration.

Wow when I heared that this was based on a true story it gave me the creeps!
Sehen year old Kathy gies missing from her Mum's car. Well actually her mum was in a pub meanwhile. One would not imagine a Szenario like that!!!

The Moors Murders are hard to stomach. Ian Brady and Myra Hindley are for sure notorious serial killers of children.

I wanted to like this book as I am always fascinated when authors use real life weaved into fiction. But this one just didn’t do it for me.

The fictional story and characters weaved into the history of the Moors Murders was incredibly flat. The characters weren’t interesting and their story was just not it. I struggled to finish it because I was so irritated with the choices they made. On top of it, the ending was so unbelievable that it just bothered me.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for an eARC for my honest review.

This was an amazing tension filled roller coaster of a ride novel. I loved every minute of it. I listened to the audiobook and the narrators were just perfectly matched to this book. They created so much atmosphere and tension and I just loved the accents. This fantastic story is set in Manchester and surrounding areas and Yorkshire following the story of Myra Hindley, Ian Hunt and Fred West. Its a fiction book inspired by the true crime event and you just won't be able to put this bookdown. The author produces such a magnificent story that you will be like me truly haunted. I became fully engrossed and just couldn't believe the twists to this story I was on the edge of my seat throughout. This thriller had me bing reading and completely losing track of time. It flowed seamlessly moving between the fascinating characters lots of emotions surfaced while reading this book. I just can't recommend this book enough and already have my auntie reading and loving this book just as much as I did. I'm sure you all love it just as much as I did. This is definitely the next big seller.

So much praise goes out to the author, narrators and publishing team for bringing us this brilliant and shocking tale.

The Hidden Child is a balance between literary fiction and a mystery. Fiction intertwined with non-fiction, the focus of the story is on a missing child, while in the background the story of Myra Hindley and Ian Brady (serial killers) is imagined. I loved the literary fiction aspect - most of the characters were well fleshed out and the writing was beautiful. The interactions between characters were sharp and engaging. However, I don't think the mystery aspect gave all that was desired. The imagined story of Hindley and Brady was unexplored, in my opinion, and even though I am typically very interested in true crime, I was much more interested in other aspects of the story. The other aspect of the misery that did not hit will with me was the actual connections between the characters - in other words, how their lives intertwined. It seemed all a little too convenient and required the suspension of disbelief. I would explain this a bit more, but that would enter spoiler territory. :)

I can't believe it took me so long to realise the story was based on the Moor killings. Once I noticed that. I became extra invested. I really enjoyed how the story and characters were pretty fleshed out. The Twists were great and kept me reading on.

I enjoyed the duo narrators as well. Both brought the story to life and pulled in me, that kept my attention. Perfect for anyone who is interested in True Crime and Thrillers. Enjoyed it!

Thanks, NetGalley for the advance audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book is based on real events. It spans decades, following a farmer, a mother and a missing child. When suspicions are raised after the child goes missing, everyone is concerned because everyone has something to hide.

This book wasn't really my style. I couldn't get into the plot or get appreciation or affection for the characters. I wasn't a fan of the narrator, and the story moved a bit too slowly for me.

However, it is based on a true crime, is dark and atmospheric, and does leave you guessing. Sometimes you just have to be in a certain mood for a certain book and maybe this just wasn't my moment with this story.

The female narrator adds a lot more inflection and drama than the male narrator. This starts out a bit slow. Ronald was definitely an interesting character and added the most mystery to the story. The landscape could have been described a bit more for those of us not as familiar with the landscape. Connie was a perfect character to exemplify a tragic person who brought a lot of her problems on herself. I wish Cathy would have been developed more before she was kidnapped so we cared more about her. Overall, it could have been a bit quicker paced.

4..75 stars, rounded up, for The Hidden Child! What a great story! My only small gripe was the ending, which I won’t give away.

This is a story about a little girl, Kathy, who was thought to be kidnapped . And there were others, too. Was she kidnapped by the same people who took them? Was she still alive?

Connie, her mother wasn’t very nice to her… maybe she or her boyfriend, Fred, had something to do with her disappearance…

Then there’s the creepy farm on The Moors. Connie’s friends go there to harass the brothers who live there (Ronald and Tom). This Myra and Ian are bullies…

This story takes the Murder on the Moors couple (Myra and Ian) and wraps a whole story around them.. I like that it touches on them but that the other part of the story about Kathy is forefront. I really liked this book and highly recommend it. Again, my only small complaint was that it felt like the ending was rushed and not in keeping with the rest of the story.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a review copy!

I didn’t realise before I started this audiobook that it is based on a real crime. I find audiobooks can be hit or miss with the narrator, some truly are not suitable for the book and can change the whole atmosphere of a book. This book i am pleased to say had great narrators and it was so easy to get lost in the story.
Set in 1965, before we have heard of Ian Brady and Myra Hindley, Connie, a close friend of Myra’s is frantically looking for her daughter, Kathy, left unattended In the car while her parents were in the pub. Unbeknownst to anyone, young Kathy has climbed into a van of sheep and been driven to Blackwell farm on the Moors run by two brothers Ronald and Thomas. The brothers are being terrorised by a couple of youths and have so far managed to keep them away. When Ronald finds Kathy wandering the farm in her red coat, he knows exactly who she is. The child is bedraggled and unwell and as Ronald nurses her back to good health, and it becomes apparent that Kathy doesn’t want to go home, Thomas and Ronald squabbling over what is best for the child.
Meanwhile Ian Brady and Myra Hindley are often seen by the brothers skulking about on the Moors, drinking and acting out. Robert is afraid they will uncover his secret, the body he has buried on the Moors.
This is a great read, gripping and appealing.

The Hidden Child is the story of a young girl who goes missing amid a string of murders on the Moor in the 1960s, weaving together fact and fiction. This story was inspired by the true-crime Moor Murders, committed by Ian Brady and Myra Hindley in Manchester, England, between 1963 and 1965.

I knew nothing of the Moor Murders before listening to this audiobook, so I don't know how much of this story was true and won't be touching on that aspect of the book in this review. What I will touch on, however, is the book itself.

Sadly this story didn't pull me in the way I had hoped. The characters are effectively drawn in that they evoked strong emotions, but sadly those emotions were limited to hatred and disgust. Even the characters we are clearly meant to root for left a bad taste in my mouth and made horrible choices.

There wasn't much intrigue as the story was fairly straightforward without any twists or mystery. We knew who the killers were from the beginning, we always knew where the child was, and we knew how the story would end.

Speaking of the ending, it fell flat for me. Everything was tied in too perfect a bow to the point of absurdity, and the extremely happy ending didn't fit the dark, dreary, hopeless vibe of the rest of the story.

The only real positive for me was the narration, which was incredibly well done and perfectly captured the characters.

All in all, this was a miss for me, and sadly I can't think of who I would recommend it to.

I wasn’t really a fan of this one. I think a lot of the reason why has to do with the fact that it’s part fact and part fiction on a true crime case, which just doesn’t do it for me. The characters weren’t likable and I just didn’t care. I wasn’t a big fan of the writing either and just couldn’t focus while reading (with an audiobook, even).
