This is book seven in the series. This is another twisty read from this author. The opening scene is very gruesome. There is a steady build up of suspense and tension throughout. The author brings the characters to life

Another absolute cracker from one of my favourite authors. I love this series and this book does not disappoint!
I still love the characters, a great storyline with some good twists.
Loved it, can’t wait to read more!

If we talk series love, this is one of my all-time favorites. Not only does Erika solve gruesome murders, almost always involving a serial killer, but I’ve really come to love her as a character, like she’s an old friend. In Fatal Witness, she's back again with another explosive and entertaining case, but I'm also really enjoying the development of Erika's character even more. Not only Erika, but Moss and Peterson and the other recurring characters. This would make an amazing TV series.

A real page turner from the off.
Although this publication is part of a series of books (think this was book seven) I never really felt that I'd missed out on anything by not having read the previous ones. Safe to say, I will however, be searching out the others and going back to start reading from book one. A very solid four stars.

'Tis the season for tackling those titles lingering on my NetGalley shelf for too long. I remember the excitement I felt when I first saw a new book in this series. Yet, for reasons I can't quite explain, it just sat there, untouched, till now.

The story bursts into action with a violent, odd murder that promises a thrilling ride. I was holding on to my reading glasses from all the excitement until it took an odd turn involving deceased cats and another turn after that. My initial excitement started to wane and hit a snag as the story unfolded. Maybe it's because I haven't hung out with the series characters in a while, and I lost touch with Ecria. It's a good read, but it didn’t quite achieve the page-turner status I expected, and I struggled to stay entertained.

I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

I absolutely love this series. I will follow Erika anywhere and it was really nice to see her closing some chapters and opening some new ones. She moves into a new place that she is attempting to make her own. She is finally opening herself up to relationships she was never ready for prior to this book. It is nice to see a character who as she makes her way through grief and heartache show that she is ever evolving.

Thank you to the publisher for allowing me advance access to this title. I really enjoyed reading this story and look forward to reading more from this author. As a reader, I am really motivated by character driven stories and I found myself quickly becoming immersed in these characters’ lives. Full review to come.

Firstly, thank you to Net Galley, the publishers and of course Robert Bryndza for an ARC Copy for an honest review.

Secondly my apologies for the delay, nearly two years of catching up on all my autobiographies and biographies, over 200 to read.

Thirdly, so nice to come back to some of my favourite authors, now up to date with DCI Erika Foster.

How do you find a killer who has destroyed all the evidence?

Detective Erika Foster is on a late-night walk near her new house in Blackheath when she stumbles upon the brutal murder of Vicky Clarke, a true-crime podcaster.

Erika is assigned to the case and discovers that Vicky had been working on a new podcast episode about a sexual predator who preys on young female students around South London, staking out his victims in their halls of residence before breaking in at the dead of night.

When Erika discovers that Vicky's notes and sound recordings were stolen from her flat at the time of her murder, it leads her to believe that Vicky was close to unmasking the attacker, and she was killed to guarantee her silence.

The case takes on a disturbing twist when the body of a young Bulgarian student doctor is discovered in the same building, and this makes Erika question everything she thought she knew about Vicky. With very little evidence, the clock is ticking to find the killer before he strikes again.

A very well paced crime thriller, strong story, and such a great character in Erica Foster, strong willed personality, outspoken, always getting in trouble with her bosses, but always solves her cases.

Robert created a selection of great characters, adding more for this novel, but great strong side stories adding to Erika's life.

Robert always delivers, onto the next Kate Marshall story now. A good clear four stars

I received this as an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This series keeps getting better and better! As well as getting better, it’s also getting much darker and more violent. The storyline was fast paced and mostly kept you guessing up to the very end. I also appreciate the additional background given on the characters. The readers are slowly getting to know them better which helps so much with feeding into the narrative.

I don’t want to give anything away, I simply suggest that you must read this installment. And if you haven’t read the series and you’re looking for a gritty, murderous paced, UK crime thriller series, try this one on for size.

Can’t wait to see what’s next.

I'd heard so many good things about Robert Bryndza's series featuring DCI Erika Foster - but I'll admit that I was irrationally put off by the book cover (I am a bit freaked out by photos of people staring at me!) I was wrong to judge a book by the cover - this is a really good police procedural and everything I love in a crime novel.

In this book - this detective's seventh outing - Erika Foster stumbles upon a brutal murder in Blackheath where she has just moved into her new home. The woman is identified as Vicky Clarke, a true crime podcaster - a job that opens up many lines of enquiry as Foster and her team try to find out what Clarke was investigating. Add in a few suspicious neighbours and restrictions placed on Erika by her superiors and we have all the ingredients for a tense, tightly-plotted and twisty crime story.

I liked the fact that the story had a really decent pace - I raced through this book, especially loving the points where Bryndza threw in some brilliant twists. I couldn't put this down, especially as the sense of peril increased - I wanted to shout at Erika not to put herself in some of the situations she did, some of which worked out fine and others less so!

The narrative focuses very closely on Erika herself and she makes for a compelling lead. Her house move and adopted cat were eminently relatable and made for a good contrast to the intensity of her work life - I have been there with missed Argos deliveries... She seems like quite an isolated figure which makes her interesting as she makes strong decisions (and all her own mistakes!)

I haven't read any of the previous books in the series, but I didn't struggle to pick up Erika's story at all. I think it works well as a standalone as Bryndza gives us as much of the back-story as we need. I would definitely be interested in reading more about Erika and I don't think I know too many spoilers to enjoy the previous books.

I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys well-plotted and convincing police procedurals. If you're new to Erika's world, there's lots to enjoy here - and if you're a long-time fan then you don't need me to tell you this is good!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Fatal Witness. It's like reading the Girl in the Ice all over again, if only for the thrill. It's fast-paced yet engaging. In this book you'll see more of DCI Erika Foster as a person and not just a generic main character to this series. For me there's a noticeable shift in the way this story is presented, in that, we as readers are given more details about her life and her struggle to let go and grow. I've also noticed that the author included other considerations that kept the story from being dualistic, black and white, hero and villain.

I haven’t read anything by this author before. Really enjoyed the main police detective Erika and her team. Good characterisation and an excellent story which kept me guessing till the end.
Will go back and read some of the previous books in the series now. Recommended.

This book was a stretch for me. I struggled to get into it but, I also couldn’t put it down. So I’m going to focus on the quality of writing.

The author does a phenomenal job connecting to the reader in a way that engulfs you in a journey of the written word. Each page was another ride through prose that seemed advanced for the genre it’s written in.
