I really enjoyed some chapters of this book and others didn’t touch me quite as much. I still feel it was a great accomplishment and will certainly read any future poetry by the author

I think this quote pretty much sums it up. Poetry is very personal and especially so with this book, as I could feel the author pouring her heart and soul into its pages. My rating is based on how little I connected with the book and by no means an indication of how I feel about her experiences.

Love and Other Company is split into chapters named after men, so it felt like the author was addressing past loves, hurt, loss and toxic relationships. Clearly there is a lot to mourn and a lack of closure. The poems are clunky and all over the place with no real rhythm. They aren't also as lyrical or emotional as I like poetry collections to be, and feel more like a journal of rants written in verse.

Overall, the writing is lacking in both quality and emotion. A forgettable read for me on the whole, but I do applaud the author's bravery and openness in sharing such a raw and intimate collection with the world.ate collection with the world.

Poetry is a departure from the mysteries and thrillers that take up most of my time. It was a welcome diversion. to read Love and Other Company.

I definitely felt the love, but what really pulled at me was the hurt of loss. Time and time again. I really felt the author's yearning for being in a fulfilling relationship. The trials and errors of achieving that was so heartbreaking. Alas, at the end was at least a peace of mind.

Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Books Go Social for the arc.

While I was intrigued by the themes of this collection of poetry, I really couldn't connect with the it. The writing is very simple and none of the pieces pulled me in. While I can see where the universal appeal to the book is there, it was nothing memorable or moving.

Received a copy from Netgalley, writing a review for funsies.

Short but sweet - the book & the poems. I could feel the sentiment, the process, the heartbreak, the longing, but it also wasn't anything (in my opinon) that hasn't been expressed before. It's relatable, and there are some lovely metaphors and visuals. Plus anyone who also feels "I think too fucking much" has my vote.

-Disclaimer: I received this book for free through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.-

Cliché and lacks artistry.

The poems are short and blunt. The author's feelings are all over the place-that much I can tell. I am not on the same wave length as they are. Overall, I didn't get anything out of the poems.

My least favorite poems:

"......spread my legs
but never willing
to expand my mind

I am not tied to you

you’re no more interested
than the others
until you see me
with someone else

I’m not a whore
you’re just upset
I’m worthy
of someone else’s time

I’m not a bitch
you’re just confused
as to how I can survive

without you".
- bret

"in the event of self-gratification
I am branded immoral
impure
slut!

this is my novel
don’t read it
if you disagree"
-controversial

Poems I liked:

"may each tear
that falls from my lids
wash away another fear

make the heart stronger
the mind more clear".
- mend

"been so long
since this heart has felt

are you even still beating
I swear I heard you today

don’t come out yet
I’m not quite sure it’s safe..."
- relic

I really loved this collection of poetry! I can safely say this is my favourite poetry of 2022 and I think it will stay that way!
I love the types of poems she wrote and the the storyline behind them all!
I also loved how each section was names after somebody - it felt like I was reading thoughts on what that relationship and recovery felt like and I just adored that!
I honestly could not recommend this poetry book enough!

Love and Other Company by Celia Sinclair is a journey through so many emotions of the author. There is sadness, joy, fear, shattered dreams, trying to pick up the pieces, and hope.

Love and Other Company contains beautiful poetry, rich with deep imagery and heartfelt emotions pouring from each page.

One of my favorites was the beginning lines of Ideal that said blue skies, warm sand, you and I, hand in hand.

I would recommend this book and give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

The book is a typical romance in genre where the poetess talks about the lovers and her feelings and bitter sweet experiences with them all. The book contains few heart touching pieces of poems and can remind many readers of their past love acquaintances.
All of these poems reference (failed) relationships. One poem I particularly liked spoke of trusting oneself and another which stood out to me spoke of the intagibilty of the 'soulmate'. I found I could easily relate to these as I felt they had some spark of a deeper universal truth. However, most of the poems felt more simplistic and less impactful - this could be a personal preference as I love poems which have meaning without resorting to rhyme. The poems I did like though show me that this could be a poet I read from again in the future.

I enjoyed reading Love and Other Company and I definitely related to some of the poems and the feelings that emanated from them.
I did however, find the overall content a little too repetitive at times, which made me want to skip past some of the poems without properly taking them in, although I did try to resist doing so.
I think this is a book to be dipped in and out of at different times, reading bite size pieces here and there. This would, I feel, make the most of some of the beautiful poems, without any detraction from the repetitiveness that I experienced when I read it.
My thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this book in return for an honest review.

Normally, I love writing poetry, and reading poetry can be tiresome...

but this anthology/poetry book was beautiful.. I could not put this down... I loved it!
it was so descriptive and it felt so real to me and it has made me want to pick up my pen and try to write some poetry that cannot stand up against the beauty of this collection...

📚’Love and other Company’ Celia Sinclair📚 Publication expected September 2022.

The poetic artistry of Sinclair exploring the love, grief, hope and disappointment of relationships was highly relatable.

Sinclair explores the cycle of falling, hurting and having to heal while then questioning if she can keep going through the seemingly never ending loop. This questioning is the highlight for me personally as I can relate to it at present, I also think that it is a theme that is not explored that often and was refreshing to hear someone else having some of the same thoughts.

Unexpectedly I related to multiple sides to the story from being the one left hurt to being on the other side and being the one who entered into something not quiet sure if I was ready for the commitment.

Many of these pages have been bookmarked for me.

10/10

I received a free copy if this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This is a collection of poems about finding and losing love. The same theme permeates all of the different experiences - falling in love, feeling like you're the only one who loves in the relationship and then having your heart broken. Due to this I felt like the poems were repetitive with the odd gem of a poem which stood out for me.

The style of the poems reminded me of Rupi Kaur - where the title of the poem comes at the end and which itself lends meaning to the rest of the poems. However, the similarity ends there as often the poems felt quite simplistic and less impactful. The meaning itself was honest, just quite simplistic.

As I said, all of these poems reference (failed) relationships. One poem I particularly liked spoke of trusting oneself and another which stood out to me spoke of the intagibilty of the 'soulmate'. I found I could easily relate to these as I felt they had some spark of a deeper universal truth. The poems I did like though show me that this could be a poet I read from again in the future.
Some of my favourite poems were consumed, prophetic, bewitched, my reality, and loves journey.

I really enjoyed reading this collection of poetry! The author talks about loss and love. I also really liked that she questions monogamy. I love that she also included a piece about sometimes we are the toxic one in a relationship. If you’re in the mood for a quick read filled with beautiful passages, I encourage you to give this book a try. Some of my favorite pieces were “rapture”, “bewitched” and “promise”!

I think this was a good collection, but it didn't amaze me. The poems were simple and repetitive, but also relatable. There were some really good ones that I could relate to and think it showed in a good way the poet's feelings. Still, this collection wasn't enough for me.

This is very Rupi Kaur inspired and it shows greatly. I'm not a fan of Rupi Kaur's poetry and, unfortunately, the same goes for 'Love and Other Company'.

The collection of poems felt repetitive and honestly, quite shallow and one-dimensional. The rhythm was stilted more often than not. Line breaks were inserted far too often to be plausible or within reason.

However, there were a few poems I relatively liked. I just don't recall them now that I've finished the entire collection.

Despite my negative review, I still look forward to how Celia Sinclair progresses with her poetry.

I could feel the feelings that this set of poems wanted to convey. At first I felt the passion and the feeling of being in love, I felt that happiness that is so genuine and alive that it seems to come from a child. In the middle and at the end I could feel the sadness and frustration that was also highlighted in each poem.
Unfortunately this book would never be able to stand out in the books of poems I read, I really liked the feelings put in but I didn't like the way of writing or the description. It felt like I was reading a loop that was being described in the most clichéd way imaginable. It had too many repetitions, it was poor in vocabulary and basically, as already mentioned, it seemed that the same thing was being repeated all the time, and nothing new was taken from the poems.
I really appreciate poems that manage to convey emotions to me, but I prefer those that at some point make my eyes widen, make me think and think, maybe I don't like ''simple'' poems.
My favorite poems were:
''Memory'', ''Afraid of love'', ''Monogamy'',''Night angel'', ''Insecure'', ''Bret'', ''Soulmate'' and finally ''OZ'', which was my favorite.
I really appreciated the ''Longing'' and the ''Restless'' because I liked the complexity that was written, not too complex but more than the others.
I liked the way the ''Silent uncertanly'' and the ''Promise'' stay in my head, I could read them three times and I would have already memorized them.
I also really liked the good description of ''Knowing''.
I highlighted these because complexity and getting stuck in your head are two things I like about poems.
As I said, perhaps this book was not made for me and many other people would fall in love with the book more than I do.

A lot of the time I look at the cover of a book to determine wether I should get it or not. I saw this cover and fell absolutely in love with it. The cover has several meanings but once you read the poetry collection you will see what meaning of the poems have. The poems linked really well with the cover. The poems themselves will provoke deep emotions and the poems are thought provoking. This poem collection is a must read for self healing.
