This was a light and heartwarming read that you can easily get cosied up with. The characters and the premise were delightful.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book. I have chosen to write this honest review voluntarily and it reflects my personal opinion.
I have read and enjoyed books in 'The Husband Trilogy' but this is the first book I have read in this series and I found it a complete departure from the author's trilogy. The seaside setting of this imaginary village is lovely, but I thought there were a lot of characters that I found difficult to remember or connect with - this is my fault, not the author's, as I have joined the series so late. I felt there was a lack of continuity: an engagement party can follow the actual engagement but Emmie refers to 'getting engaged' as well as 'being engaged' although Audrey is referred to as MIL, i.e. Mother-in-law although Emmie and Stephen are not married. In addition the number of days in the run-up to Christmas seem to get longer as we got to the last couple of days. I have to admit I didn't warm to Emmie, she seemed to take a long time to make her mind up to stop being a doormat for Stephen but still not do anything about it. The 'mystery' about Jago held an interesting twist but I was surprised by the 'closed ranks' who constantly warned Emmie away from him but would not explain why, especially when some of them were on his side.
This book did not seem so credible to me albeit it is a well-written romance so I have given it an average grading.

Another enjoyable read from this author.
As you get to know the characters better your views of them change and you can’t help but fall in love with the story.
A great story to loose yourself in, especially on a cold winters night.
I would definitely recommend and would read other books from this author.

Snow Falls Over Starry Cove by Nancy Barone

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and Aria and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

Emmie Weaver has it all – a handsome fiancé and students who love her. So why does she feel so lost? When Emmie's estranged grandfather dies, leaving her a barge in Starry Cove, it's a welcome chance to hit pause. But as soon as she arrives in the Cornish village, it's clear this won't be the relaxing break she was expecting. Her grandmother wants nothing to do with her and Jago Moon, a handsome yet hostile town bad boy, is inexplicably determined to not let her boat touch water. Christmas is fast approaching and so is her wedding date. Can Emmie stay long enough to see snow fall over Starry Cove?

My Opinion

I have read a few books by Nancy Barone now but this one fell slightly short of what I was expecting. For me, Emmie was a frustrating character and so I struggled to connect with the book. This is a relatively quick, festive book but for me there was just a little bit too much going on.

Rating 3/5

Nancy Barone is a wonderful storyteller and Snow Falls Over Starry Cove is a welcome return to Cornwall. A beautiful Christmas story with delightful characters and a few regulars thrown in! Thoroughly enjoyable.

It took be a bit of time to get into it, but once I was sucked into the story I was REALLY sucked into it. In the best way possible. What a quick and fun read! It's festive, cute and cozy. The perfect book to read on a cold Christmassy day. What I loved most is how there's quite a few characters but it never felt chaotic or messy. I could keep up very easily and loved every single one of them!

Before I talk about the contents of the story I need to express my love for the chapter titles of Snow Falls Over Starry Cove. Every single one is literary-themed and I thought it was such a nice extra to the story. It fits Emmie’s character as she’s a book lover and an English teacher.

So starting with Emmie, she was a character you couldn’t help but like and pity as so many bad things happen to her throughout the duration of the book. She honestly has the worst luck, especially as the entirety of Snow Falls Over Starry Cove happens over less than 8 weeks.

To begin with, I thought I was going to hate Emmie as although she was bold with her thoughts she was a massive pushover when it came to her actions. She really could have taken her best friend Maisie's advice to stop letting other people control her life.

The moment she arrives in Cornwall was quite the wake-up call for her, although a lot of what happens to her is downhill from there though. Again, she has terrible luck or is somewhat stupid. I’ll let you decide if you read this for yourself.

Now Jago Moon was supposed to be the most beautiful man in the world, but with a less so beautiful personality. However, the way he was described, outside of the ‘beautifulness’, meant I just could not picture him as attractive. It’s going to sound bad, but the fact that he was constantly drunkenly stumbling around whenever Emmie saw him was the main reason for this. When you get further into Snow Falls Over Starry Cove you learn why this is, so I will let it pass, but he didn’t seem much like a romantic interest to me.

I’m all for an ‘insta-love’ when it comes to festive romances, but going from despising each other to seemingly being in love was surprising. It was obvious where the story was going as it’s always the same with these types of books, but I hate that the characters were lying to themselves for so long.

With that being said, I’m surprised at how much I loved Snow Falls Over Starry Cove. It was a very quick read and the storyline was about so much more than just the romance. There are a lot of cleverly placed foreshadowing moments and I was actually quite impressed with how well these weren’t written in.

I’d definitely recommend checking out Snow Falls Over Starry Cove if you are looking for a quick, festive read.

Emily is in an unhappy relationship with the principal of the school she teaches at. He always puts her last and she feels like something is missing.

Then a letter from a solicitor arrives telling her that her grandfather has died and her grandma wishes to meet with her. Emily is shocked, as she wasn't aware she had any living relatives.

Unfortunately the meeting doesn't go to plan and Emily has to make some very hard decisions about her future.

A happy holiday romance.

Although I didn't finish this in time for its pub date (oops!) I did enjoy this book a lot! It started out kind of slow, but once it picked up it breezed by so quickly. Even though I read it in August/September, it gave perfect winter/Christmas vibes, which is my favorite season of the year! Not only were the vibes super awesome, but the romance was super cute - and I love a cute romance. And it had such a lovable MC!

I really enjoyed this light hearted enemies to lovers story.

Emmie seems to have it all “on paper” so why is she feeling so unsettled? Unexpected news about estranged grandparents gives her the out she needs to pause her life. Throw in some angst with the town bad boy and I was a happy reader.

Great dialogue, dash of mystery and a cute HEA.

Emmie is a teacher in London, engaged to the Headmaster, with an overbearing mother-in-law to be, and is dreading her forthcoming engagement party.
Fortune smiles on Emmie and she receives a large inheritance from her estranged grandfather, including a business and property in the small coastal Cornish hamlet of Starry Cove.
Heading to Cornwall for some space, Emmie is about to make some big changes to her life and future.
A good story, but the main character, Emmie, was so wet I wanted to shake her! Afraid of speaking the truth, afraid of her future MIL and her new grandmother, afraid of falling in love, afraid of change, afraid of everything it would seem!
I can see some of the other characters making for future books, but please, not Emmie.

Overall enjoyable but a little too much arguing between the two main character's. A lot of unlikable characters and a lot of topics covered, ending felt rushed but nice enough.Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy

Snow Falls Over Starry Cove is my fourth Nancy Barone novel and I’ve loved everyone so far.

Emmie Weaver should be ecstatic with her engagement to Stephen Stone. After all, he’s from a well to do family and he has a prestigious position as headmaster at a private school. But Emmie feels unfulfilled, even a little empty. To add to her doldrums, Emmie is informed that her grandfather passed away. A grandfather she never knew existed. A feeling of unease sets in and Emmie decides that she needs to get away for a spell. If not for herself, at least to get to know her estranged grandmother.

But the grass isn’t any greener in Cornwall compared to London. And Emmie learns that her estranged grandmother isn’t any better than her overbearing future mother-in-law. And to add insult to injury, Emmie also learns that the owner of the other half of her inherited assets is none other than that pompous bloke and nemesis, Jago Moon. Wow! How bad can it get? And can it get better?

Snow Falls Over Starry Cove is a light enemies to lovers romance novel. But it also contains elements of mystery and suspense, which made for a very absorbing read. I can’t say much more as doing so would spoil the big reveal.

There’s a wide case of characters. Some of them I loved and some of them I loathed. Barone really developed a wide range of them — even the minor players. Most of the characters are relatable, and there really wasn’t a bland character in the narrative.

Overall, Snow Falls Over Starry Cove is a must read for fans of Nancy Barone and for those fans of romance set in the U. K. Five amazing stars.

I received a digital ARC from Head of Zeus through NetGalley. The review herein is completely my own and contains my honest thoughts and opinions.
