This is a very short book. This is very mundane with little to no excitement. The writing is ok but the storytelling was lacking. The plot was so unbelievable

This author is fast becoming one of my favourites and this book showed why.
A book swap which turns into a fantastic mystery and whodunnit.

Although the storyline is up to date, some of it was a bit contrived, but I still have a great time reading it.
The characters were easy to connect with, which I love.
The story was present, so it made me wonder if finding a note in a second hand book is an actuality.
Saying that I found it hard to put it down.
The author knows how to keep the suspense up, making the reader NEED not WANT to keep reading.

I loved it, and if you like the premise of the book, read it I am sure you will enjoy it.
And a nice introduction to a fantastic author.

I liked the premise of this book but I could only finish around 30% before I DNF. Sadly, my attention just wasn't grabbed and I had no desire to pick it back up. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher!

Thank you NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this e-ARC in exchange for my honest review!

I LOVED J.E. Rowney's "Other Peoples Lives," so I knew I had to request this to read!
I really enjoyed Laura's character and the pacing of this book. I was intrigued by the mysterious note, the twists, and the surprise ending! J.E. Rowney once again held my interest and can't wait to read whatever she writes next!

Highly recommend!

Book was well written and kept you guessing from beginning to end. Who wrote the note? Who needs the help? The reader is wondering until the end. Recommended.

I thought this book had a great premise and it was a quick read. I saw where the author was trying to go but I personally didn't get there. Not a great read but also not bad. Just middle of the road

A quick, fast-paced story centered on Laura as she tries to figure out who sent a "Help me" note in her book swap book. Laura investigates who left the note in an effort to help them with her friend Carley along for the ride. Unfortunately, it all fell flat for me. The characters were not developed, the story was linear and basic, and I found I was not invested in the story or ending.

The Book Swap is an intriguing read that keeps you guessing. It's very easy to get absorbed in and read in one sitting as you want to find out what happens.

As much as I liked the premise to begin with, it was so far from believable and the writing was formulaic. I was interested enough to keep going until the end but when it came it was disappointing and seemed a bit ill thought out. Not bad for just an average thriller that passes the time

I loved the premise which is why I requested an ARC last year. I found the concept fairly unique. Very quick read for me - I read it in a weekend. I twisted to the MC a lot and was rooting for her. This was my first book from this author but I doubt it will be my last.

This had the most ludicrous plot I've ever read. It was quite good to begin but as the main characters started to discover what was happening in the house in Cambridge it just become more ridiculous! The initial idea was great but it just veered into nonsense, and I hate being so negative about someone else's work but it was just a bit silly.

If you are looking for a short, fast read with an implausible yet thoroughly entertaining plot, The Book Swap by JE Rowney is the book for you. It's about Laura, a 30ish English woman who has fled home after her marriage broke up. All she does all day is read, watch TV, drink endless cups of tea and spend hours on Facebook in book groups. She belongs to a book swap group and gets a thriller in the mail. Inside is a note that says "Help me."
If she can't help herself, how will she help someone else??

This was a quick fun read. It would have been a 4* book if not for the writing style. It was odd. As if two very different people with very different writing styles wrote it together.

Thank you, NetGalley, for the chance to read and review this book. All opinions expressed are mine and freely given.

this book could have been so much more but it wasn't

how on eaarth did she meet someone and then legit go on a staycation with them. i don't think that is very plausible. or the fact that her e husband called the police and stuff - honestly the details are very fuzzy becuase i can't remember any of it. this just goes to show how boring i felt the book was.

it was messy, convoluted and boring

This was an easy quick read. The storyline was solid but not too thrilling. I muddled through until the end.

I am part of the Book Swap group on Facebook so I knew I wanted to read this. I loved the characters Carley and Laura and how they're love of books bonded them. A few times throughout I did wonder if Carley had good intentions but really loved the fast paced ending and feeling of danger.
A really great read.
