Ten Years by Pernille Hughes
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️4/5

I was sad for this book to end.
I listened to it on Audiobook in my car and it made my journeys so much more interesting.
I really looked forward to the next episode of this different kind of love story.
Not so obvious and does it turn out for the best?
A tale of loss, hardship, grief, self development, human bonds, friendship and love.
I do recommend.

Took a while to get into the voice, I normally read rather than listen but was a good book to start with, lots of laugh out loud moments, for anyone who loves a romance this is the book.

This audiobook sadly was not for me. I really struggled and had to DNF.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an opportunity to listen to this book.

I really enjoyed this one! - unfortunately I don’t remember much about the story as I read it not long after my dad die, but I remember it healing my hurt a little and I had a smile on my face when I finished it.

I enjoyed this one!
Enemies to lovers tropes are done pretty frequently, so there needs to be more of an unusual one to stick in my mind. This book certainly does that!
There is grief and pain that unites the 2 characters and this was compelling and traumatic at the same time.
I enjoyed the audio, both narrators were excellent, and I would look forward to listening to it. It was a good book, although not a brilliant one.

Ten Years is my first Pernille Hughes book and I look forward to reading other books by her.

I loved the premise of the book - After Ali’s death her fiancé Charlie and bestfriend Becca meet each year to complete a bucket list left by her.

It does everything promised on the front cover: “They’re perfect for each other. They just don’t know it yet.”

The story navigates grief, friendship and love. I think it’s very much for fans of One Fine Day. I also think it’s screaming out for a TV adaption or film version!

Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publishers HarperCollins UK Audio, One More Chapter for making this audio-ARC available to me in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Unfortunately I gave up with this one as I couldn’t gel with the narrator . I found the voice dull and boring.

Absolutely loved this audio book. First book I’ve read by this author but look forward to reading more. Heartbreaking yet hilarious at parts & had me crying at the end just perfect I was rooting for them. I’d actually love a sequel.

Unfortunately I had an incomplete version, but what I listened to was good.
A second chance romance spanning ten years.
Charlie and Becca meet at Uni, a one nighters happens and then Charlie falls for Ally - Beccas best friend.
Fast forward a few years and at the beginning of the book Ally has unfortunately died and Becca and Charlie have totally fallen out.
The problem being they now have to do tasks each year scattering Allys ashes.
Over the span of the book and the dual narrative Becca and Charlie come to life, seeing their ups and downs and how they interact with each other.
This is a story about grief and how it is dealt with, but also moving on and finding love again.

Very emotional. It opens after a loss so we already know it’s going to be sad, but it’s also life affirming and lovely. This reminded me of One Day, which is a book I will always love. Great stuff!!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for letting me read this book in exchange for my review.

This one hit a little different. Becca and Charlie are forced together because of Ally - Becca's best friend and Charlie's fiancee. She has asked them to spend the next 10yrs completing her bucket list. Wouldn't be so bad if they actually liked each other.

I was gripped, I thought I knew where it was going, it took a few detours. Had a couple sprinkles of W.T.F, a dash of warm and fuzzies and a pinch of let's just get on with it.

Overall a good read.

TEN YEARS
BY
PERNILLE HUGHES

Charlie and Ally have been together since university.
Ally and Becca have been best friends since university.
Charlie and Becca have been little more than civil since meeting at university.
Now Ally is dead and she has left her boyfriend and best friend a bucket list of things she wants them to do with her ashes - together.
Each year they collect Ally’s ashes from her mother to complete another item on her bucket list. Each year Charlie and Becca seem just as frosty towards each other and agitated by the others way of grieving for Ally.

As the years pass by, can Charlie and Becca soften towards each other and find something in the other that they are both missing in their lives?

This love story is a very slow burn and it took a long time for the chemistry to jump off the page - but it got there!

This a funny and emotional read. Beautifully written and ultimately heartwarming.
I thoroughly enjoyed Becca and Charlie’s story.

Ten Years is the first book I have read by Pernille Hughes, but I will definitely watch for more. In this book we meet Becca and Charlie. They have known each other since their days at university where they had a one night stand. They ended up disliking each other immensely with the hope they would never see each other again. Fate gets in the way, when Charlie and Becca's best friend Ally become a couple eventually getting engaged. When Ally dies, they are both a mess and grieve her terrible. A year after her death, they are contacted by Ally's mother with a task. Ally has left them a bucket list, tasks to complete each year on the anniversary of her death. Her ashes have been placed into several bottles and they are tasked to scatter them all over, in places that mean something to Ally, Becca or Charles. Over the next ten years, they run into each other off and on and begin to see different sides to each other. Even with these tasks they continue to bicker, argue, mock and generally rub each other the wrong way. They eventually become friends, but can anything else work between them?

This was a wonderful romance story, a true enemies to friends to lovers trope. I loved the various tasks that Ally left for them. It took both of them out of their comfort zones at various times and they had to support each other somewhat to complete the list. They still had friends in common, so ran into each other at other times besides just the anniversaries. Their love for Ally was very different, one loving unconditionally and seeing Ally as perfect, the other loving Ally in spite of her flaws. Although Ally is dead, she is very much an important character in this story. I loved the banter/fighting between Charlie and Becca. At times I felt like it was just to irritate one another, not because they meant the words. At times I thought they were moving forward to a developing friendship, then something happens and they are back where they started. This story is set over ten years, so it was definitely not insta-love, but I think they had feelings for each other from the start, but could not and would not act on them because of Ally. I liked how Pernille Hughes portrayed grief in this story from not only Charlie and Becca, but also Ally's mother. I recommend this story to those who enjoy contemporary romance, stories where characters deal with grief and new beginnings.

I did enjoy this story, and it should be noted that I am probably tainted by listening to the first part with a terrible fever, however, the thing that bothered me is it took a very long time to get into. I almost gave up and I’m glad I didn’t because I enjoyed the second half. But when I picked up I didn’t realise it is called ten years because it literally takes ten years to read! On review, I can’t see where I’d make significant cuts and it all tied up well in the end.

Lovely narration lifted this story, which I thoroughly enjoyed, though it was a little sad in places. Great writing, and characters I was rooting for throughout.

Narration was brilliant for this book and I could listen for ages. The story of these enemies to lovers trope is set amongst a tragedy for them and so it isn't so happy and free as you often get in romance stories of this trope, however, Charlie and Becca have their own history to work through and they start with their grief and then it falls apart. When they do find a way to reconcile it doesn't spark for me the emotion and build up throughout the book has gone and some of this is because I am not entirely sure I was really rooting for these two anyway but I did enjoy the story, this I think is more about their journey through grief together rather than their love for each other.

It says that They’re perfect for each other They just don’t know it yet. This is the story of Becca and Charlie who have known each other for years – ever since they met at university. I really liked the idea of a bucket-list. But the final "click" was not there for me.
However I really enjoyed the narration by Emma Sidi

This book follows Charlie and Becca, who have been left a bucket list to complete by Ally, their fiancé and best friend respectively, after her death.

I am a massive fan of the slow burn enemies to lovers troupe, however this story is just as much a tale of grief and moving on from that as it is a romance. I sometimes found myself unable to see how these two characters would work together, but found myself rooting for them in the end. An overall enjoyable read.

Thank you net galley and publishers for an arc

This was a fun, often moving read, however, the leads constant bickering and insults make it an utter miracle that they like each other, eventually… let alone start to fall for each other. The constant guilt Becca feels over everything Ally related was difficult to get through, as was the fact that Charlie didn’t feel the need to tell vitally important information to either Becca or any respective love interests. It was beautifully narrated, I just wish it hadn’t taken so long for the leads to get themselves together. Thank you to the publisher, for this ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
