A great summer story - perfect for reading at the beach. It is easy to read and moves at a good pace. It shows how important friendships are to our wellbeing in a fun way and makes you laugh along the way. I love the girls friendships with each other, they were very believable and relatable. The idea of a digital detox is also quite appealing too.

I genuinely really enjoyed this - I read it while on holiday, and it was the PERFECT holiday read. I'm not sure if I'd ever go back to it, but it fit my life perfectly at the time.

I loved seeing the girls friendship grow closer - and while I understand the romance element, I think I would have honestly preferred the storyline without it.

Surprisingly long.

A sweet summer story all about friendship, taking chances, and being true to yourself. I thought this was a really nice and light read and felt quite modern and realistic.

For the first third of this book I was pretty entertained, it was giving me the summery vibes I was looking for and the 3 main characters were all interesting enough.

And then it just lost me. Tbh it was more me realising that this type of book isn't my cup of tea rather than it being bad. I think if you are looking for a light, funny holiday read then it could be for you.

This is a fun but thought provoking story, a nice easy read with great characters - I found it very reflective of society and I liked the different representation found within the book. Definitely a great summer read, and I almost felt like I was at the hotel with them so it's perfect to take on holiday with you!

I really enjoyed The Summer Switch-Off and it’s the ideal summer holiday read.
There’s three main characters Luna, Rory and Jodie who each feel that they should be living their best lives whereas the reality is they are all desperately unhappy.
Rory, Luna and Jodie are three solo travellers on a retreat holiday in the sun.
They are thrown together in the face of adversity (no phones or any kind of digital devices are permitted at the retreat eek) they cease to be strangers and form a bond of friendship.
The Summer Switch-Off is the perfect summer read, a tale of friendship, sisterhood and finding a new direction in life.
There is romance, broken hearts, comical mishaps and bravery all wrapped up in one week in the sun.
The setting was lovely, I loved the idea of switching off for a week and seeing the 3 girls having to instead battle with themselves and grow together - it was really sweet to read.
It was a great light-hearted summer read and I highly recommend.

As soon as I saw the cover for The Summer Switch-Off, I was beyond excited! What an amazing group of people! The book was just as lovely, full of sunshine, laughs and heartfelt scenes. The writing is superb, but then again, I expected nothing less from Beth Reekles :)

Thoroughly enjoyed this - such an interesting target age/audience with the characters being 18-21, really don’t find many books pitched at this stage of life! I loved the friendship element but I LOVED romance best of all. To be honest, I would have quite liked to just read Jodie’s POV and her story - her relationship with Gabriel was pretty swoony and I just wanted more of that!

Luna Guinness almost twenty years old and goes on a trip to Mallorca 🇪🇸 booked while drunk.
Luna has been with Liam since she was 15. But broke up with him a few weeks before the holiday.

Rory Belmonts sister booked holiday
The hoilday is mean to be restful and rejuvenated, family want her to come back less depressed.
Has to decided whet he wants to do a law degree or other course or gap year.

The resort 'Casa Dorada' is picturesque. Right on coast line.

Estefan Alejandro Àlvarez manager of resort, 'my team and I are at your disposal'
Thinks there's an resonal explanation as to why they want to collect their phones. It was a digital detox retreat.
Luna also didn't realise, as she booked it while drunk.

Jodie wants to drop out of uni, as does not like student life. Because it was makinh her run down and miserable.

Never felt confident in herself.
Oscar a rep at the resort, 'the purpose of Casa Dorada is to reconnect with the world and yourself'.

They meet a hot bar tendor on the beach ⛱️ 😎 👌.
Gabrial the bar man has a phone, and the girls start to use it.

The girls make a drunken attemp to get phones back, but get caught after a while my manager, which is funny. Luna blames herself as it was her idea.

Waiting for new room, Estefan comes over, and they know immediately that something is wrong. Get sent to private villa to share, which sounds good but its a dump.
Everyone else at the resort blames them fir room changes.

Jodie meets Zoe, the other children's kids club rep.

Rory has to dress up ad 'Larry the Lobster 🦞 at kids, to pay for damages she caused.
Rory go viral, as someone recorded her falling into the pool, while dressed as the Lobster. It is tagged to her account so her follower count has gone up significantly. But she is not happy. 😭

The girl have a big fight, Luna thinks she has said some unforgivable things. She feels she must apologise the next day.
She tells them she felt like they 'were just putting up her'.

Life back home changes completely, for the girls.
And they find out who posted the 'Lobster girl pool video.

Will the girls remain friend? Will Gabrial keep in touch?
There are a lot of twist towards the end of the book so it keeps your interested right to the very end.

I like the difference POV of different characters in each chapter. It made the novel have greater depth and means we get to know three characters a lot better.
I do believe this book is a more suitable for older young adults. But overall its a really good, quick read.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for giving me a complementary digital copy of this ebook in exchange for a full, frank and honest review. All opinions expressed are completely my own.

Overall a good, fun summer read. You know what you are going to get and it delivers. There are laughs, friendships some soul searching and of course romance.
For me though it did lose a star because there was no mention at all of practising safe sex in what should be considered a somewhat risky situation.

The summer switch-off

This book was so much fun, just what I needed right now. There's friendship, romance, and some seriously hilarious hijinks. It can have 4.5 stars (rounded to 4) because why not the girls deserve it.

Allow me to set the tone with a quote, " If you don't kiss him, I will. Nobody can resist the raw sensuality that is Larry the lobster. " This book is told from 3 POVs, and i loved all of them.
Luna, who just split with her boyfriend and feels like she maybe doesn't have as many friends as she thought
Rory, who's trying to find a way out of doing a law degree, so she can pursue art with the help of social media
Jodie, who is debating, dropping out of uni but feels no sense of direction

The girls meet on a no technology retreat (I'm not convinced the hotel doesn't do this because the place is a mess) and form a bond through wine, a mission impossible phone stealing attempt and a flood that forces them to move into a "luxury villa". Oh, and one exceptionally smooth barman.

All in all, I really enjoyed the journey each of the characters went on, and I laughed a lot. I did Dock a star because luna did grate on me on occasion, in that obsessing over her break up kind of way (I am totally a Luna by the way I can relate to both that and realising all your friends were actually his) and there's a 3rd act conflict I could have done without. Sometimes, it's okay to just let the good times roll. I'd definitely read a sequel about their further antcis.

I received an advance review copy of this book, and this review represents my honest opinion. Thank you to netgalley, Beth Reekles, and the publisher for the opportunity to read the book.

I really enjoyed this book. It’s light-hearted and fun to read. An excellent holiday read by the sea. The characters are all individual but share the same desire to have a fun break in the sun. This just doesn’t go to plan. I think we can all relate to the need to switch off from everything but the lack of mobile phones adds an extra twist to this tale.
This book would appeal to teens and adults alike if you just fancy an fun and easy read to cheer up your summer.

I really enjoyed this book, it was so well written and is a great book for both the young adult and adult market, I didn’t feel like this had to be exclusively marketed at young adults. The writing was great and I really liked the setting and the story idea. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and I would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.

3.5/5.

This is a fun beach read of an airport book. It’s not particularly deep and meaningful, but sometimes we all need to read something light. An enjoyable read.

Imagine booking a holiday to a resort, only find out you didn't read, that it was a device free holiday! Not even kindles or ipods are allowed.
Jodie, lola and Rory spent a week doing jusy that.

I absolutely adored this story from each ladies POV beautifully written, relatable and so funny

Perfect summer read!
Really enjoyed the trio and their insights into “the holiday from hell”. There was a good mix of funny moments and anxiety fuelled conversations. Each girl had their own issue to solve and they came together to help each other through it. I feel this would be good for those who are contemplating uni and briefly touches into why it’s not right for everyone. I also appreciated that the romance aspect wasn’t too much and ultimately a great story of finding those friendships of a lifetime.
