Wow those first two chapters pack a lot in. Interesting world, character, emotion and premise. Love.

I stumbled upon this sampler by complete accident but I am so glad I did! I recently read and absolutely loved Stacey's newest release, A Forbidden Alchemy, and I was hoping to jump into the Glacian Trilogy soon. This is a very small sampler/sneak peek so I'm not totally sure what I'm up against yet but I'm looking forward to finding out. Thank you so much to Angry Robot for the sneak peek! I can't wait to read the full book and see what adventure and heartbreak lies ahead.

I’m sooooooo sad it’s not the full book because when I tell you now I’m hooked and sad waiting for the whole book omgggggg

I received a sampler of Ledge by Stacey McEwan via NetGalley. While the premise of a dark fantasy world with a strong female protagonist and a slow-burn romance is interesting, I personally did not connect with the writing or the story in the sampler. I won’t be continuing with the full book, but I appreciate the opportunity to preview it.

Ledge had such a killer premise – an icy prison in the mountains, deadly winged creatures demanding human sacrifices, and a tough FMC swinging an axe like she means business. Honestly, the set-up hooked me straight away. Dawsyn was strong, blunt and stubborn, which I loved… at least at first.
But somewhere along the way, the execution didn’t quite live up to the idea. The worldbuilding felt a little thin (I wanted more depth about the Glacians, their history, their magic – give me the details!), and the pacing sometimes left me skimming instead of clinging to every word. For a book that promises “heart-stopping,” it occasionally felt a bit flat in delivery.
The romance had potential – enemies-to-something with Ryon? Yes please. But it never fully ignited for me, more lukewarm than slow burn. That said, the ending was solid, and the concept is good enough that I’d still pick up book two just to see where the trilogy goes. Overall? A decent start with promise, but it didn’t quite reach the icy heights I hoped for.

This except was beautiful. I was just so mesmerised by the way the author writes, that it was inevitable for me not to get interested in the world. The way she sets it up and describes such an atmospheric scene really hints at the potential of the story. I liked how she didn’t need to use big words to evoke a reaction in the reader, immediately transporting you to that world full of ice and snow.
Only two chapters were enough for me to get interested in the development of the story. Granted I can’t give it a higher rating because this fragment does not encompass how the whole book will be.

This book got me right out of my reading slump. It was so different and with a strong FMC. Starting book 2 right away.

Only reading the first two chapter due to this being a sample did exactly what it was intended to do. MAKE ME RUN AND READ IT!! Ledge starts like a survivalist nightmare and ends like a betrayal TikTok rant. Dawsyn is snatched from her frozen prison, ends up in the claws of the Glacians, and somehow doesn’t just die of frostbite or attitude poisoning. Instead, she gets stuck with Ryon, a broody half-breed who has “I’m bad for you but actually good for you” stamped across his wingspan.
The banter? Sharp enough to cut through ice. The tension? Thick as a fur cloak. And just when you’re rooting for Dawsyn and Ryon to make it work—bam! Stacey McEwan throws in the betrayal twist. Ryon hands her over to the enemy, and you’re left clutching the book like, did he just pull a reverse Beast move?
By the time the cliffhanger rolls in (literally), you’re not sure if you want to yeet Ryon off the ledge yourself or line up for book two. Spoiler: it’s both.

I’m so excited I got to dive into Stacey McEwan’s sampler! I’ve love following her hilarious TikTok videos and just recently picked up her newest release for my TBR shelf, so seeing her name on this sampler was such a treat. These first two chapters of Ledge pulled me right in, and I knew I was going to absolutely love it. I can’t wait to read the full story!! I have a feeling this series is going to be a wild, thrilling ride. Thanks so much, Netgalley!

I felt let down by some of the storyline and context of the world building in this book - the romance felt rushed and too rapid for the timeline. I love Stacey McEwans writing usually but this one didn’t hit for me until the very end. I’ll continue the series out of loyalty for the author but those who are more critical with their reading won’t enjoy this. Keeping a light hearted unserious attitude will rate higher I think.

As someone who grew up with dystopian YA, I found the description really intriguing!
The sample is definitely making me add this book on my TBR. I'm curious to find out why do Glacians need the humans and their sacrifice. Dawsyn's life sounds incredibly lonely, I want to know what is happening beyond the borders of the only world she's ever known and why.
Thank you, Netgalley and publisher for providing the exclusive sample.

Well two chapters are just not enough of this gem. I’ve been intrigued by the premise of this story since hearing about it some time ago, so when I saw a sampler on NetGalley I downloaded it immediately. The story had me intrigued right from the start. Dawsyn seems like a fantastic FMC with a lot of fight.
The setting beautifully lends itself to the what I feel will be a massive sense of urgency further along in the story. I need the rest of this book now.

Thank you to netgalley and Angry Robot for the sample chapters!
This book has always interested me and after reading these first two chapters I can say I am truly hooked, have purchased the book and I will 100% reading this series very soon!!!
I love a fantasy setting where it is giving cold/frosty and wintery vibes and this is exactly that! I am definitely hooked to follow Dawsyn's story!

I read the sample chapter of Ledge and I’m already hooked. The opening drops you straight into a tense, icy setting with just enough mystery to make me desperate for answers. The writing is sharp and immersive, and the worldbuilding hints at a dark, dangerous landscape I can’t wait to explore.
Even in just this short glimpse, the main character’s grit and determination stand out, and I can tell there’s going to be a strong survival element mixed with intrigue and maybe a little romance. This sample did exactly what it was supposed to—it left me wanting more.
I’ll definitely be picking up the full book and diving into the series.

Been looking forward to reading this book for quite a while!
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read this Arc!
Really enjoyed this story, look forward to reading more from the author

This sampler really hooked me. The author's writing style feels very atmospheric and immersive, but not so much that you can't relax and enjoy the story unfolding. The pacing is great - I didn't feel my mind wander at any point which is definitely saying something in the digital age. I was hooked enough to add the full book to my TBR. Hoping to read before the year is over. Thank you for the preview!

the fmc had alot of fight . fiesty and determined. i love worlds that are orientated around summer, ice, winter, night , makes it more mysterious

Alright, well 2 chapters didn't feel like nearly enough. I was invested in the story immediately and was left curious and wanting more. I mean, who doesn't enjoy a mysterious dystopian tale? I love that the story dives right in from the beginning, with enough detail to show that the FMC is tough and knows how to survive, even the most difficult of situations. I will definitely be reading the rest of this story, as soon as I can get my hands on it.

The first two chapters read like a crossover between The Hunger Games (mysterious drops of food, clothing and tools, to be fought for) and The Book of the Ice by Mark Lawrence (frigid environment, family/clan is everything to survival, icy hole that people are sacrificed to). It's pretty pacy, and is setting up our Strong Female Character in a straightforward way.
Personally, I really dislike a 24 year old being called a girl -- especially just after sex with a similar-age character referred to as a man, not a boy. And there are some weird phrasings that needed smoothing out: what is a "conversant pulse"? Saplings would be dug up, not cut, etc. The initial writing style is quite overdone, but books like that do often settle down once the plot gets going. I would need to read more to have a better sense of the story direction and how I'd recommend it.

I received an ARC for the first 2 chapters of Ledge by Stacey McEwan. I was immediately gripped and invested in the story. The description of the main character’s setting is stark and seems rather hopeless. There is also a good amount of mystery regarding this chasm and the glaciens on the other side. I will definitely read the entire book after reading these two chapters. Thank you for the opportunity to read it!
