I’ve read a lot of worlds full of fire lately—this frozen sampler was a brisk wind of fresh air.
This world is exceptionally brutal. Even in just two chapters, I have such a visceral sense of the Ledge and its occupants. Dawsyn is an intriguing FMC and I’m curious to see her worldview widen in this journey.
Also, the opening chapter gave serious Hunger Games vibes, in a fantastic, nostalgic way.
Have already downloaded to continue this one! Excited to see what happens next.

This little two chapter snippet of Ledge was great! There was just enough background on the main character and the world-building that left me wanting more. Dawsyn, the sole surviving member of the Sabar household, already seems like a force to be reckoned with. She's fiercely protective of what she has and also incredibly caring and loyal to her friend Hector. This was my first look at Stacey McEwan's writing style and I enjoyed it.
*Thank you to Netgalley, Angry Robot, and the author, Stacey McEwan, for this exclusive sampler! Opinions expressed are solely my own.

While this book came out a while ago, I happened to come across it on Net Galley. After reading the first two chapters of the book I was hooked. Dawsyn says she chooses solitude but does she really? The nature of the Selection and the icy chilling setting really brought the first two chapters of the book alive. Will post a full review when I get to the full book.

The detail through out what I have seen so far draws a very realistic vivid fantasy world and I'm drawn in with the not just this preview but also the blurb I read for this book. I haven't got farther into the book yet to have much more to say but so far I think it's beutifuly written.

I only received an excerpt from this book but already it has hooked me!
The mystery of the ‘selection’ and the ledge has me wanting to read more.
I enjoy the casual relationship the characters have and can see myself growing attached to them.
I think I’ll be purchasing this book to hear the full story.

I was given a sneak peek at the first 2 chapters and I’ll definitely be reading the rest! I saw the hype for this series on BookTok, so naturally I had to be a bit cautious. So far I like the author's writing style and I feel like I could really enjoy this one.
Thank you NetGalley for the arc!

The two chapters make you want to read more. I am excited, I have to find a copy.
Thank you for a great teaser NetGalley and to the publisher Angry Robot.

Thank you to Angry Robot and NetGalley for a galley copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE IN A ROMANTASY. While there were tropes that we all love (enemies to lovers, forced proximity, hidden heir), they were all used within a greater narrative arc. None were used as mechanisms to hang the entire plot on, they just supported the story.
The premise of the story is unique. In a way it reminds me of The Reaping from Hunger Games, but also is altogether different. I appreciated that there was no massive info dump at the beginning of the story and that as the world gradually grows for our FMC, so does the reader’s knowledge of it.
Speaking of the FMC, I loved Dawsyn. She was a honey badger in the best way. There was a maturity to her that you don’t see in younger romantasy heroines. She was resolved to survive the challenges of her life, and didn’t take anything lying down.
I loved the MMC that Ryon is. I loved that he let Dawsyn be who she is, and made it a point several times to tell her he would never try to control her, that her decisions were her own. He supported her and loved her, and their quippy banter even after falling for each other was fun to see.
I am now clambering for book 2. There were a couple of twists I figured out, but there were more I didn’t see coming - including the cliffhanger ending! As I said in the beginning of this review, THAT IS WHAT I WANT TO SEE IN ROMANTASY! I have missed this feeling when reading romantasy.

Great start! I will definitely be reading the rest of the book! I wish it had been a little longer but didn’t realize it was just the first couple of chapters when I requested it.

Okay wow. This was just an exclusive sampler but I'm already so in love. Two chapters and I want more. I really wanna know how the story will evolve. Will definitely picking this up.

The first chapter had a strong start and then the second chapter focused on a weird friends-with-benefits situation that essentially negated the excitement I felt about the first chapter. I didn’t want to read a somewhat detailed sex scene about characters I just met. It felt unnecessary.

It was a fantastic read.
A mesmerizing world and very realistic character.
I could not put it down.

This sample is just enough to give readers a feel for the world, the FMC, and the authors style of writing. After reading this snippet, I will absolutely be purchasing the book!

I've only read the first two chapters of this book and already intrigued by the world created. This brutal world created on an icy ledge where survival is not the only thing the characters must be concerned with. They may also be selected or harvested by the beings that come every season to make their selection. The characters are not certain what happens to those who are selected but they can only imagine the horrors that wait for those taken. I'm excited to continue this book.

First of all, congratulations on an awesome beginning of a series! I was immediately hooked and didn't want to put it down. She wrote characters that you could fall in love with despite their obvious flaws.
Found family is one of my favorite tropes and its got the makings of a great one with this trilogy.
The side characters are *chefs kiss* and they'll only get better.
The world building is so good and it made sense without being overly complicated.
I definitely recommend this one. It is adult fantasy but the spice level is quite low. Slow burn/ enemies to lovers/ great banter.
Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC.

I don’t even know where to begin with this book, Stacey is a vision. This story has such an original plot, and reminds me kind of like a mix between the hunger games and a little bit of divergent with fae. I was truly obsessed with the MMC in this book I cannot wait to see what happens in Chasm because that plot twist really really threw me. I did not see it coming and I thought the FMC was going to get a happy ever after, but I’m so excited for her revenge arc and getting back at the people that tried to destroy her. Stacey CRUSHED this one!!!!

Going into Ledge, I wasn’t sure what to expect but the cover alone had captivated me — however by the end, I realized it’s one of those books that feels like the opening move in a much bigger game. Not everything lands perfectly, but there’s enough grit and promise here that I’m all in for the rest of the trilogy. (Because quitting a series halfway through? DNF who!?). Fans of Sarah J. Maas and Jennifer L Armentrout will feel right at home: it’s dark and messy, a little savage at times, and that’s only half the charm.
Highlights:
The atmosphere grabbed me immediately. Imagine the Wall from Game of Thrones and The Gauntlet from fourth wing had a baby — that's the setting, and it’s every bit as bleak and brutal as it sounds. Everything from the shattered world to the smart-mouthed heroine to the broody supernatural love interest — bonus points because Ryon has wings. (Automatic points from me. Wings will do that, but we already know why? IYKYK). Dawsyn might seem reckless and immature at times, but it tracks. If you’ve spent your whole life clawing to survive in isolation why would you worry about being mature in the face of danger? I specially adored that she stayed rough around the edges, it makes her stand out in between heroines. The final plot drop was everything to me, I personally love (and hate) and author who isn't afraid to unalive anyone for the sake of the plot. In my opinion it makes it raw, real and far more deep.
What didn’t quite land:
The romance needed more breathing room. It wasn’t straight-up instalove, but the connection felt more told than shown — I wanted more moments that earned the shift from enemies to something deeper. And the steam? All buildup, little payoff. The tension was there, but the execution left me a little cold (pun intended). Worldbuilding, too, stayed frustratingly shallow. There were glimpses of a fascinating magic system and culture behind the Glacians, but it never fully fleshed out. I kept waiting for it to dig deeper, and it just... didn’t.
In the end:
Ledge is rough, wild, and unfinished — but there’s so much raw energy in this story that it’s impossible to look away. It’s setting the stage for something bigger, and Dawsyn’s journey feels like it’s barely getting started. I’m strapped in for the rest of the ride, hoping the next books dive even deeper into the story’s potential and more worldbuilding, please!

The sample of Ledge is very descriptive, so interesting and draws you in. If this is preemptive for the rest of the book, it should be a thrilling read.

This sampler gave me a good idea of Stacey McEwan's writing. As I explore the fantasy genre, I find that it helps to read a few chapters before getting into the book. I think I am engaged and the winter chill has got me so I'll definitely be proceeding to read the final story.

I’ve never read anything by Stacey McEwan but from just two chapters I can see why she’s so popular. She really sucks you in with her writing. I did not realize this book was already released when I hit read now, was just interested in the sample but should’ve paid closer attention. I’ll be finishing the book and sequel so I can preorder the next book!
