This was an absolutely riveting page turner which I struggled to put down when life tried to get in the way of me reading it, let that be a warning to you on picking this book up!
Midnight is a very interesting character, her parents made being responsible for Dawn a big part of who she is from a young age and this gives her a good grounding point and explains her need to find the truth behind what she has found in her working life and solve the mystery of the Profile K.
The story is told mostly by Midnight but with a chapter every so often from our mysterious Profile K. I did try and figure out who it might be but struggled as there were a few options in Midnight’s life as well as the possibility that it was someone we hadn’t met yet.
The ending, when it came, was very satisfying. All my questions and concerns were answered and yet I was also left feeling that we could return to some of these characters again at some point should the author decide they have more stories to tell.
This book has a great story arc from start to finish and some really interesting characters both in the spotlight and supporting those heroes and villains. I really enjoyed this book and will be getting more of this author’s back catalog to enjoy in future.

What would you do if your employer was putting your life in danger? It's something that shouldn't ever happen, right?

But let's be honest, not all employers are as ethical as we would like, or care about their employees as much as they would have you believe from their external marketing campaigns...

Necto is a highly sought after company, that everyone wants to work for. Amongst many other projects, Necto is responsible for data profiling for different types of clients. There are many different types of profiles returned, except Profile K.

'Profile K' is a profile that doesn't exist, or so Necto tell their employees. For 'K' stands for Killer.

Midnight Jones has a job as a data analyst that most people would kill for. But she has long questioned the ethics of the company that she works for. Her work for Necto involves profiling potential students for university applications, or so they tell her.

When Midnight stumbles across a 'Profile K' she takes it to her boss, thinking that she's doing the right thing. When he doesn't want to take any action, she takes it to his boss, not caring about the consequences, she needs to make sure that they know what is happening.

Midnight isn't expecting the reaction she gets, but she is glad that Necto appear to be taking it seriously. That is until shortly after, when Necto decide to have a restructure, earning Midnight a promotion, but taking her away from the Profile.

She is certain that the company is trying to hide something, but she doesn't know what, or just how much danger she is in, until she's in too deep.

This is a fast paced thriller of a novel that I absolutely loved. Something very different, and very clever. Highly recommended.

I recently read ‘Profile K’, a mesmerizing thriller that kept me engrossed and engaged throughout. The author did an excellent job of creating a suspenseful atmosphere that kept me guessing and wanting to read more. The killer's mind was portrayed in a terrifying manner, and the opening scene was both gruesome and captivating.

The story revolves around Midnight Jones, who works for Necto, a tech company that specializes in analysing the psychological profiles of job applicants. When she comes across Profile K, someone with no boundaries and no empathy, she is alarmed and reports her findings to her bosses. However, her concerns are dismissed, and she is left to deal with the situation on her own.
The author skilfully portrays Midnight as a warm and caring person with a challenging life. She is the primary caretaker for her twin sister Dawn, who has special needs, and her parents have abandoned her. Despite the difficulties she faces, she remains committed to her sister and does everything in her power to ensure her well-being.

The book is filled with twists and turns that keep the reader absorbed and on edge. The author doesn't shy away from the gruesome and graphic details, which adds to the overall suspense and horror of the story.

In conclusion, I enjoyed this book immensely and would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good thriller.

Just WOW! My first Helen Fields book but most definitely not my last! I loved the premise, it felt like getting the inside scoop into a killer’s mind this hooked my at the very beginning and just never let go. Fabulous characters that helped deliver this dark and disturbing tale. Huge fan!

Totally brilliant
It got me hooked from page one. The plot thickens and there are so many connections between characters. I was blown away by the complexity of the story and just how easy Hele. fields made it all seems so real.

I am a big fan of the Luc Callanach series by this author, so was keen to read this

Midnight Jones is an analyst working for a biotech company, who check personality profiles. When she comes across an extremely worrying profile that is a Profile K, an extreme personality nicknamed K for killer, she tries to bring this to management attention. However the company are very keen on Midnight staying quiet and she is warned that any information released could lead to dismissal and legal action.

Midnight is understandably wary, she looks after for her disabled sister and the carers cost a lot of money.

When a local woman is murdered and some of the video footage is similar to the footage used to assess the Profile K, Midnight wonders if this candidate has killed. And she could be a target….

This was a very enjoyable crime thriller.

Thanks must go to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review.

Wow! A rip roaring, non stop thriller with relentless action - I couldn’t put it down!
Midnight Jones is a profiler, screening applicants and their responses to scenarios. She also cares for her twin. Dawn, who has learning difficulties and is fiercely protective of her sister. When she comes across a file that she identifies as a profile K - Killer - her company turns against her and Midnight becomes a target for the killer.
A brilliant read.

I have read all of Helen Fields ‘Perfect’ series so I know she can write a good story. This is a standalone story about big business and how far it will go to gain an edge. It’s also the story of one woman’s love for her twin sister whom she cares for and how far she (Midnight) will go when she knows something is wrong. She realises that one of the profiles she is assessing is ‘off the charts’ and that coincides with a particularly vicious murder - she has a hunch they are connected. Midnight is willing to put herself in danger to prove the truth. I liked the contrast between the gruesome murders and the interactions between Midnight and her sister Dawn as well as her friends. I always look out for a Helen Fields book. Thank you to NetGalley and Avon for an ARC.

I do love a book by this author and this was deliciously dark and a great idea. I just got so engrossed and kept reading as I needed to know what was going to happen next.

Helen Fields has written a gem of a book!
It’s full of very scary, profiling research, brutal murders, and a very smart woman!

Midnight Jones works as a profiler for a company that does recruitment work. Applicants take online surveys, to determine their suitability for job positions.
While evaluating surveys, Midnight comes across an abnormal response, and discovers that a survey is filled with horrific videos of killings and torture.
What Midnight has seen is something she can’t report, due to confidentiality clauses in her work contact.
After seeing this profile, two horrific murders happen in her neighborhood.
Could these murders be triggered by the videos an applicant watched?

Read this fast paced, roller coaster ride, and find out the thrilling ending!

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for the opportunity to read this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

An intelligent psychological thriller that asks interesting questions whilst putting some engaging characters through the ringer.

It's an intriguing concept executed well with this authors trademark addictive quality and great writing.

Overall a wildly entertaining read.

Unfortunately Profile K just wasn't for me. It was to dark and graphic for my taste. If I had realised this I would not have chosen to read it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.

When working to review profiles of people applying for jobs and universities, Midnight Jones comes across one she has never seen before, Profile K. Further investigation leads her to learn this means the person in question is a sociopath or psychopath.

She is concerned by this and becomes disturbed when two women are murdered close to where she lives and she believes Profile K is the killer.
Working to try and find Profile K’s identity before they can kill again she puts her job and her life at risk.

I really liked Midnight as a character and her caring for her twin sister Dawn showed off her compassionate side.
The idea is a really interesting premise and I love the idea of a company being able to profile people in this way and what that may uncover.

I enjoyed Helen Fields way of unfolding the plot and her gory description of the murders and crime scenes reminded me of the Chris Carter, Robert Hunter series.

There are lots of strong female character in the story and I would really love this to be the first in a series.

Wow what a crazy read. Fast paced edge of your seat kind of thriller. The characters were great and the story line moved smoothly. This one had such a unique plot and gave me goosebumps more than once.
An unputdownable heart stopping thriller

I could not put this book down!

This book sucked me in from the start, and I tore through it in two days, only stopping to work and sleep. The pace, the story, the twists and turns - I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. More than just being a top-notch thriller, though, it invites you to think about the ethics of technology and how it's implemented. There's also themes in there about found family, sibling love, and parental abandonment.

Midnight is a complex and compelling character, and the author did a fantastic job of making her relatable and well-rounded. Almost from the beginning, I felt like I was reading a TV-show script, and I wouldn't be surprised if this was adapted to the screen one day. This is the first book I've read by Helen Fields but most definitely won't be the last.

Content note: There are some graphic gory scenes, so you may want to avoid if you're particularly squeamish. That said, they aren't gratuitous and fit their place in the story well.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 because 4 doesn't do it justice.

Can I just say.. wow! What a book. After reading The Institution last year and finding out that Helen was releasing another book, I literally counted down the months until this was released. I was not disappointed.

This book had me holding my breath, anxious and so scared for the characters. Midnight was the ultimate badass. She was brave and never took no for an answer. She saved lives.

Dawn and Doris, they was amazing characters. Doris being the maternal figure I think Midnight and Dawn needed in their lives. Dawn was just the sweetest sister. Even with all of her problems, she warmed my heart.

I didn't think much of DI Josk Ruskin. He seemed like he was going to be a real good guy, to then just turn around and walk away just for a better paycheck!

Overall, this book was tense, mysterious, and so, so good. Please go check it out!

Dark and impactful from the start. The murderer emerges from routine psychological profiling used in recruitment processes. Midnight, a highly trained operative in a profiling tech company discovers a disturbing profile that shouldn't exist but does. A killer is out there, and unfortunately, they know about Midnight. The race to capture the killer or die ensues with mounting intensity and suspense. You invest in the varied characters, and what happens to them resonates. I like the story's believable characters, the contemporary ethos and the immersive intensity.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

I say this with every new book I read by Helen Fields, and I'm going to say it again...this is my favourite one by her so far!!! I did not believe she could surpass "The Institute," but she has proven me wrong. Definitely one of my favourite books of the year!

This captivating read held my attention from beginning to end. The concept that such events could transpire in real life, or even have already occurred, adds an unsettling layer to the narrative.

A serial killer is brutally murdering young women, and the question arises: what is their connection to the Netco Corporation?

Midnight Jones, a profiler employed by Netco, is tasked with evaluating applicants to ensure their suitability for higher education courses based on academic qualifications, interests, and personality traits.

However, an unusual profile crosses her desk, unlike any she has encountered before. It is a Profile K, supposedly nonexistent and added as a jest, as the letter K stands for "killer."

Buckle up, you're in for a wild ride!

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

Wow, I adore Helen's books, they always deliver a punch and this one was just the same, a few pages in and wow what did I just read? I was sad to finish this book I raced through it and enjoyed every page. Worth more than 5 stars. My thanks to netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Helen has garnered considerable popular acclaim for her series about Edinburgh detectives DI Luc Callenach and DCI Ava Turner, but with Profile K she heads off in a fresh direction, with a new central character.

Midnight Jones is an analyst trained to understand the human mind. She works for a London biotech company creating profiles based on applications received by various companies and educational institutes. One day the application she’s reviewing comes up as Profile K, K for Killer, which she’s never come across before. To confirm the results, she takes the same test herself and is soon convinced of the applicant’s potential threat. She raises her concerns with her employer, but is told to drop it and is reminded of her privacy obligations. Nevertheless she persists with her efforts and finds herself in pursuit of a serial killer.

This is a clever, scary novel that provides an interesting twist on the standard serial killer thriller. The book starts with a shocking killing, and the pace rarely lets up, as Midnight pursues her target. The background information is interesting, and Midnight is an engaging central character who is nicely fleshed out. Her relationship with her disabled sister is touching, and for the most part she goes about her investigations in a credible and logical manner. Readers of Helen’s earlier books will also appreciate the appearance of the marvelously named Doctor Connie Woolwine from The Shadow Man and The Institution.

Regular readers will also not be surprised by the book’s gruesomeness, and there is plenty of violence and detailed descriptions of death and injury. The chapters from the perspective of ‘The Applicant’ are particularly confronting, and this is certainly not a book for the squeamish.

Overall, a good piece of entertainment for fans of dark serial killer thrillers.
