I absolutely adore Helen Field's books and was thrilled to be approved for this one. Profile K grabbed me right from the first chapter and I never lost that 'on edge' feeling the whole time I was reading it.

The characters are so incredibly well written that I felt I knew them, fully invested in their stories and willing the best to happen for them.

Profile K is a fast paced emotional rollercoaster of a book, where I was more than happy to go along for the ride. I whizzed through the book, desperate to know how it ended and I was not disappointed.

Oh, I really did like this book. I must have done. either that or it was only ten pages long as it disappeared in a flash. I love that I always get that from a Helen Fields novel - a story which draws me in so completely that I lose all concept of time, and characters who are so well developed that I am totally invested in their fate, be it to the better or the worse. That was most definitely the case with Midnight Jones, a data analyst at Necto, a company specialising in analysis of the brain, the application of which, as far as Midnight is concerned at least, is in determining a psychological profile of applicants for university or job interviews.

So far, so normal-ish ... at least until a profile lands in her work list that shows some very, very, disturbing traits. A not so subtly named 'Profile K'. But profile K is an office urban legend - the worst of the worst. The profile that isn't meant to really exist. Isn't it? Well, luckily for readers, that is absolutely not the case and, unluckily for Midnight, alerting management to the issues is about to create her a whole world of problems. Helen Fields takes us on one heck of a ride as Midnight fights to have her concerns recognised, resolute in her mission to discover the identity of the mystery profile owner before they do something that can't be undone.

Which would be okay if it wasn't already too late. Be prepared folks. We know that Ms Fields is the queen of dark but she has excelled herself this time. The book opens is typically dramatic fashion and leaves readers very much on edge from the get go. Yes, there are some lighter moments to come, but be this is one fast paced, high tension, high stakes ride with so many loops and switchbacks you'd be forgiven for thinking you'd take a wrong turn at the bookshop and ended up in a queue at Alton Towers instead. Just when I thought I had a handle on what was happening, the book took another dramatic turn and I was left not quite sure which side was up again. There are clues which are fed into the story, some scenes from the killers perspective for a start, showing some insight into how they ended up with such a dark side, but also red herrings, designed to distract and confuse - and it bloody well works.

Now this is not part of the author's current running series as such, but it is series adjacent, and avid readers will recognise a familiar face in amongst the varied, and largely loathsome, cast of characters. It was a nice interlude, aiding Midnight's investigations and giving her some much needed insight into who it was she was looking for, if not quie alerting her to all the potential dangers she might face. I liked this foray into the world of psychology, looking at a rather troubling and little known type of psychopathy. It was informative without being too detailed, and enhanced rather than slowed the pace of the story.

As always, the author has done a bang up job of creating the setting and tone of the story. The highly secretive and security focused tech world of Necto, contrasted with the day to day lives of Midnight and the victims of Profile K. The murders are disturbing, but not graphic, the sense of terror allowed to build whilst keeping readers away from the dark deed itself. It if explored after the fact, by way of the post mortem and police investigations, rather than through a killer's eye view, but this is troubling enough. And with the killer's next victim in their sights, we never quite get to rest easy, part of the reason I read on so fast. I needed to know how it ended.

Midnight is a brilliant character, driven by the love for her sister and aided by some very unexpected - and varied - friendships that develop out of the course of the story. The good news is that the ending of the book gives me a very positive feeling for the future and I can't wait to see what comes next from the author.

Dark, pacy, full of tension and totally and utterly riveting, fans are going to eat this up. Which is potentially quite apt given the story ... Loved it. Definitely a winner

What to say in addition to the premise of this book you’ve already read…. Profile K is told by more than one perspective, but mainly Midnight J’s and at times going back to earlier times in their lives. Midnight is a trained analyst looking into human minds, a job she seems to enjoy until discovering a very concerning applicant, who’s been branded as Profile K, where Midnights fight and worries begin…. Midnight has her twin sister to take care of, so cannot afford to lose her job, but also wants to do what’s right. A wise lady, but just who can she actually trust?..

From the very first page until the end, this book kept me engaged in Midnights fight. A definite page turner and should read.

Where do I start - this was mind blowing!
For me this was a blinder of a book.
The characters, the storyline/plot, the way the story moved on, everything about it was brilliant. It was also good to see Connie make an appearance.
The book really made me think about what is going on in some of these companies and it is worrying.
I can also see another book coming along with Midnight and Connie - bring it on!
I highly recommend this book and if I could give it 10 stars I would.
I have now read all of Helen's books and she is in my top 5 authors list.

A horrifying attack on Chloe Martin in her home where she should feel safe is made worse somehow by the cheerful, fun message on her landline left by her sister and three-year-old niece as the incident takes place. Switch to Necto Corporation in London, a biotech company, specialising in the human brain, and Midnight Jones, who is a carer for her twin sister Dawn, who has severe special needs. Midnight’s job is to assess applicant profiles for, amongst other things, university places. When she gets a profile of data scores that has to be a system glitch or corrupt data, she does some deeper analysis and holy moly, what is revealed is terrifying. She certainly feels horror but not so the applicant known as profile K and I’m sure you can work out what the K stands for. Alarm bells are clanging at mega decibels for Midnight, so she does the right thing. As for ‘K’ the routine test has shown what they are potentially capable of and it doesn’t bode well. DI Jock Ruskin investigates but this will leave its mark.

Can I breathe now? Helen Fields is known for her tense thrillers, and this is the take a gulp kind, as she’s turned up the fear factor to the maximum notch in this chiller thriller. Here we not only have someone who is accelerating in the worst possible way but there are chills of an altogether different kind come from a big brother organisation. What kind of game are they playing?

Midnight Jones as a central protagonist is immensely likeable, not only is she honourable, but she’s selfless as she cares for Dawn and that family backstory makes you very cross on her behalf. Salvation appears in the form of septuagenarian Doris who is quite simply wonderful. We also get to meet Doctor Connie Woodwine again in a peripheral, but important role too. It’s worth checking out The Shadow Man and The Institution as both feature Connie and are excellent books.

My blood runs pretty cold at the start of this fast paced novel, but those chills soon freeze pretty solidly at more than one junction of the plot. There are twists, and then some, and an ever present feeling of fear overhangs the storytelling. There’s some horror as it’s not a pretty tale, it’s creative, original and some parts may seem far-fetched but they’re not beyond the awful realms of possibility. Do we really know what goes on behind the closed doors of powerful institutions? Who is the monster in this tale? I wholeheartedly approve of the optimistic ultimate ending after all the angst. Now some of the characters can breathe too.

Finally, anything Helen Fields writes I’m there, and I’ll jostle the queue with my elbows to get to the front!!

It's a busy, pretty thankless job with very little surprises. That is until she profiles the latest applicant and is horrified to discover he hits the outliers of every margin. He has no empathy, sympathy and is aroused by violence. He is a Profile K for killer. Midnight's nightmare is just beginning because now he has set his sights on her. Thank you NetGalley for my advance copy. This is a brilliant, twisty and at times disturbing book.

Helen Fields leads you into the mind of Data Analysist Midnight Jones as she interprets data for the company Necto. But when Midnight comes across what she feels is a mistake, an error in the system, she goes through all the data to uncover what truly appears to be a Profile K - a possible Killer.
When things start happening in the streets nearby she can’t help but worry if there is a link and fear for her future.
This is an enticing and unputdownable novel about murder, stalking and profiling. I devoured this book and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes a fast paced thriller that will have your heart racing.

Well once again Helen Fields has done it again another edge of your seat murder mystery.. I have no idea how she keeps coming up with new and fresh ideas but she has.
Like any of her books saying a lot will give the game away but this really is a new idea and a brilliant one at that. The tension keeps ramping up until the final few chapters where you find yourself reading faster to see what happens.
As with anything this author writes you know it is going to hook you in and I can not recommend it highly enough.

This is a state of the art dark crime thriller. Intricately plotted, a cast of interesting and original well-developed characters, high threat, constant tension, twists and shocks.

Characters in danger - imagine the worst possible, riskiest, most painful outcomes - Helen Fields goes there and beyond. This is not for the faint-hearted, feel the pain, this is as dark as bestselling crime fiction gets. Chris Carter and Pierre Lemaitre need to pay attention.

Shocks and torment alone count for little, Profile K has a solid gold multilayered story with great characters at its heart.

This is Helen Fields’ best standalone thriller to date.

Profile K is a compelling, disturbing and chilling read that I really enjoyed, and it certainly hit the ground running with its beginning that immediately grabbed my attention and interest luring me straight into the story.

I really like the main character Midnight Jones. She is a data analyst and comes across a profile that raises serious concerns that are dismissed by her employer. I like the authors writing style and think the story is very engaging, thought provoking and well written. It is told through individial characters and moves seamlessly from past to present times. The author certainly knows how to ramp up the tension and suspense and connect with her readers - at times I had such a feeling of foreboding as I knew what was coming and was dreading it. I was rooting for Midnight throughout and adored Dawn and Doris. The glimpses into Midnight's home and personal life are a lovely touch. I think the plot line is well thought out and certainly believeable, bringing a story full of thrills, wow moments and perfect pacing. I love the appearance of a familiar character and hope to see more of them in the future.

If you like books featuring serial killers, profiling and crime investigations then this is for you and I'd recommend it. Helen Fields definitely knows what her readers want and does not disappoint.

Helen Fields has done it again with another book I couldn't put down and had to read in one sitting where science fiction is now the scary reality.

When Midnight Jones stumbles across a Profile K case, K stands for Killer. After checking the file, she reports it to her boss, where she's shut down. Not letting it rest, she digs deeper and realises she's next to be murdered.

This is a real cat and mouse chase to discover who Profile K is. With so many twists in the plotline, it's difficult to guess who it is, who can be trusted, and who is watching her.

I absolutely loved this dark, gritty thriller, and I didn't know who it was until the reveal. Helens books just get better and better.

I always worry when an author of a series I love, writes something different and while I loved the sound of Profile K, I wasn't sure if I was going to love it as much as Helen Field's other works, BUT, I should never have been concerned!
I was immediately invested. 2 seperate storylines that twist and develop into one story. I absolutely loved it. Literally couldn't put it down and I definitely wasn't ready for it to end!

Wow. Really loved this book. What an amazing storyline. I am left in awe how such a unique setting could be created and expanded to produce such an excellent read. It had me on the first page and I really struggled to put it down. The murder techniques were very sensitively written with the finer detail left out. I loved the main character Midnight who had a difficult personal life but yet was so feisty, and had a very powerful sense of right and wrong. Great to see the reappearance and input from Dr Connie Woolwine, and I can’t wait to read the next one.

Best read of 2024! There I’ve said it, I’ve set the standard.

This book was incredibly good. Fast paced, thrilling action and so tense. Helen S Foelds really is at the top of her game. And to make matters even better… Connie Woolwine makes an appearance! *cue fan girl fainting*

Sometimes doing the right thing is the hardest thing. Especially for Midnight Jones who whilst desperately is seeking help and wanting to help. Is restricted by her personal circumstances and her job. People don’t always help you when you’re in need. Sometimes when you do the right thing you get punished. I loved the added complexity of the situation and how the way in which things played out in her job was almost an unscripted reality.

Helen’s character development and dialogue is always on point. You immediately latch onto the situation and the characters emotions and personality. Whilst I initially found the name Midnight a bit OTT it gradually grew on me. In the book Midnight explains that her parents ‘must’ve been hippies’ to have named her and her twin Dawn and Midnight. The name stopped feeling like it was the epicentre of the story.

Okay, so it goes without saying, I totally loved this book and couldn’t stop reading. In fact I enjoyed it so much. I am half tempted to pick it up and start again. Which is saying a lot, considering I’ve got so many books on tbr list!

It’s no secret I’m a massive fan of Helen’s Luc Callanach books so my worry was if her latest read would comfortably fill the handsome detective-shaped hole in my life. Based around analyst Midnight Jones, this is a tense, taut read that’ll have to wondering which characters you can really trust. Midnight discovers a Profile K during the course of her work – and this is out of the ordinary because the K stands for Killer and it’s something that she’s never encountered and that her bosses want to not speak about. But Midnight’s talent lies in understanding the human mind, so she knows what Profile K is capable of even before his commits his first crime. Unfortunately he doesn’t stop there, and things get much worse – though beautifully plotted – particularly as no one wants to believe Midnight. She too has family issues to deal with but it’s clear that the only way she’ll be able to escape the mysterious K is to find him before he finds her. Gulp. The level of detail in the novel will impress and if you like this, I’d recommend you starting all of Helen’s books.

I absolutely loved this latest book from Helen Fields. I was hooked from the very first page and needed to know how it ended. In my opinion, this is the best book I have read in a very long time. The whole idea of Profile K and the fact he could exist, gave me something to think about. Right until the last few pages, I had no idea who Profile K was. With so many twists and turns, it was very difficult to work out the ending. This kept me going and I had to finish the book within 24 hours. If there is one book you read this year, make it Profile K. You won't regret it.

This book keeps you reading. It’s fascinating. Some very interesting characters. With Midnight Jones at the heart of it all albeit unwittingly initially. It’s like a jigsaw coming together but I defy you to work it out around the red herrings here. A subject matter that really gets you thinking and stays with you long after you’ve put it down. The mark of great storytelling. I would highly recommend this, had me reading into the small hours. I had to know what happened.

Despite all its promises of excellent employee welfare, Necto’s attitude towards its staff leaves a lot to be desired. After a particularly stressful morning arriving late at the office due to a problem with Dawn’s care agency, Midnight is hauled over the coals by her line manager Richard. Keen to get her head down and just get on with it, Midnight starts her assignment of profiling applicants for a local university. Sickened and shocked at what she discovers, would her attitude towards her role ever be the same again?

What a start to a book! Thrown in from the off, to an action packed fast paced thriller. This book is so good. The fact that what is not written about the crimes scenes makes it all so much more gruesome, less is definitely more! Fields gives you the scene and lets your imagination run riot!

Brilliant author, just keeps getting better and better.

I felt so on edge throughout reading this. But it’s what Helen does best - a gory, find the killer asap type of book. I was captivated and felt all the feelings from anger to sadness. It’s a chilling read that won’t let you go. I’m already looking forward to Helen’s next. I also loved how Dr Woolwine made a surprise appearance!

Profile K begins with one of the most terrifying first chapters I’ve ever read! Helen Fields certainly knows how to capture the reader’s attention from the off! I found myself on tenterhooks, anticipating what lay ahead. Profile K has an unusual premise for a psychological thriller, but I do love the unusual. It’s a real page turner, (cliched but true) that will keep you riveted until the very last page.

Midnight Jones works as an analyst for Necto that offers profiling for employment and education. In her routine day-to-day work, she comes across a Profile K file. Code K is for those who have no empathy and lack boundaries. They have all the makings of a potential killer! After the most gruesome murder of a local girl named Chloe Martin, Midnight attempts to inform Necto of her concerns, but they appear unwilling to listen to her. Why? here’s where I say ‘you will just have to read the book to find it!’ In finding the file, she could be the killer’s next victim.

One thing that’s guaranteed to get me hooked is when an author takes the reader on a terrifying journey into the mind of a killer. I have a morbid curiosity about the darker side of the human psyche, so the chapters told from the killers’ POV are not only fascinating but give the reader an insight into a very disturbed individual. Midnight is one of those characters you immediately warm to. Her major role is caring for her twin sister Dawn, who has special needs. She’s loyal, extremely intelligent and resilient. A strong supporting cast aids her in her investigation. I especially loved Doris with her upbeat personality and warm nature.

Profile K isn’t for the fainthearted as some scenes are pretty grim, but they add a genuine sense of terror to the overall read. There were so many brilliant twists and turns. Each time I thought I had it all worked out, the author threw a curve ball, which certainly enhanced my reading experience. Expertly plotted, Helen Fields throws a spanner in the works with perfectly placed red herrings that misdirect the reader at every given opportunity. The plot is dark, gripping and refreshingly different to most plots in the psychological genre, which is a HUGE bonus. I’m hoping the teaser at the end leads to a series. Highly recommend to those who love dark psychological thrillers.

Profile K is a brilliantly shocking thriller that I could not put down.

The opening chapter left me completely shaken. It really drew me in and I was hooked from the very start. I felt so overwhelmingly invested in the outcome of this story.

The mystery of the plot was like a giant puzzle to me, I kept turning it over in my mind trying to view it from different angles and come up with an idea of what was really going on.

This book is fast-paced and at time incredibly terrifying, it will definitely take you on a journey that you won't forget.

More breath taking than I thought possible! It’s definitely full of momentum,twists and turns, whilst packed with impending horror! Midnight works within a large company that is unbeknown to her is not as truthful as they make out to be.

Midnight is determined to find out more about this new profile K, and following a recent local murder she is frightened her research may become deadly.

Who is profile K? Will Midnight uncover who is behind the mysterious profile?

This crime thriller is not only chilling, but a thrilling read. Straight from the start the storyline has you gripped. This is certainly a book which will stay with me for a while.

This story is not for the faint-hearted though as it can get quite graphic with the details of the murder victim, I don’t think I’ve ever heard such disturbing way in which someone was killed.

I felt there was a touch of dystopia/Sci-Fi to the storyline with the profiling head sets which they use with the new technology they are developing. This on its own was scary, how much they could find out about a person just from one test.

Overall, a chilling crime thriller where an analyst tries to discover the identity of the terrifying Profile K.

I devoured this in 2 days!.
My first read by Helen Fields and to say this was gripping is an understatement.
I love a good physiological thriller, but this just blew me away. Fast paced from the very beginning and whilst it did contain a bit of graphic violence (some of which I had to just skim over), it wasn’t just your ‘run of the mill’ serial killer story. The story was alot more complex than that. It has a killer on the loose, women murdered, a young woman hell bent on discovering the truth behind the data she found whilst profiling applicants in her corporate job, and multimillion corporation hell bent on making sure she doesn’t expose their flaws!

I loved the main protagonist, Midnight Jones. She was so likeable, especially when learn about her childhood, and how she came to be the sole carer for her twin sister who is intellectually disabled.

The Applicant, Teddy, gave me quite the Jeffrey Dahmer vibes. He literally made my skin crawl.
I could definitely see this book on the TV. Terrifyingly brilliant.

Helen Fields is a master at capturing a killer's dark, twisted mind. Be it her DI Callanach or Connie Woolwine series, she consistently delivers captivating characters and unique plots. This standalone book is no exception.

Midnight Jones, a profile analyst at the highly structured and client-confidential Necto Corporation, is startled to find a Profile K applicant file--K indicating killer. When she brings the file to management's attention, she is told it is an anomaly and that there is no such thing as a Profile K. Then a murder occurs whose killer fits the Profile K applicant's profile. Midnight is conflicted: go against company confidentiality rules and contact the police or keep her much-needed job. Knowing the killer is likely to strike again, Midnight faces not only a moral dilemma but also the real possibility of putting herself in the path of the killer.

Although this plot seems futuristic, the author's notes state that this profiling technology is already available, bringing thoughts of Big Brother to mind and the dilemma Midnight faced very real. This is a fast-paced psychological thriller with a murderer whose twisted thoughts are brilliantly captured in a dark and fascinating plot. If you have not read a Helen Fields book, "Profile K" is an excellent introduction to her complex characters and plots. 4,5 stars,

This is my first Helen Fields’ book so I didn’t know what to expect but from the very first page I was gripped.

The book opens with a woman’s violent terrifying murder. There is a false sense of calm in the next chapters when we are introduced to Midnight Jones who works as an analyst for a powerful tech company and is also the main carer for her twin sister Dawn. The tension soon ratchets back up when we meet The Applicant, whose profile Midnight has analysed with terrifying consequences. She knows he’s the killer … and he knows her name.

And then another woman gets murdered…

The story was fast-paced, taut, brutal at times and came to a dramatic conclusion. I could never have guessed how this would end. I really hope there will be more books with Midnight Jones. I would definitely read another Helen Fields’ book … with the lights on!

you dont realise how much technology is developed or used and how they can use it in the wrong ways and the consequences that come from that.

Midnight Jones works for a big biotech company called Netco which deals with HR profiling as a data analyst. She comes across a Profile K after some psychometric tests have taken place and she is so shocked that this person is a potential sadistic killer and she doesn’t know who to trust or inform her findings as Necto, even though it has its perks Netco has really tight security concerns and upper management are not the friendliest people to get along with. Her she also has concerns as that person who the profile is based on, knows that she has viewed. Is her life in danger?
When a few days later, women that are living alone are suddenly brutally and sadistically murdered in their own homes. Has the killer already started is killing spree?
Helen Fields is becoming a favourite author of mine. Due to her latest book Profile K. This is fast paced action-packed thriller. It is well written and plotted and it also made you think of what these types of things that Biotech companies are capable of. This is a bit grisly in parts too. So it is not for the faint hearted. But for me personally I really enjoyed this book, especially the ending. I was holding my breath in anticipation to the conclusion of this book. 5 big stars from me.

There is something quite chilling about a book like this one whose contents are scarily credible.
We start with an extremely brutal murder. Quite graphically described, event and aftermath.
We then switch to the Necto Corporation where the fantastically named Midnight Jones works. Her main role being assessing applicants for jobs and education places. Taking a profile and analysing the results. It's a well paid job, which is good cos she is the main carer for her twin sister who is wholly dependent on round the clock care, which is expensive. This causes her some issues at work around timekeeping, but, on the whole she is ticking long quite nicely. Until that is, one day she comes across a weird set of data. Assuming it to be a glitch, she analyses it herself, the source data, but all appears good. I say good, it's a profile K and that is definitely NOT good...
Cut to the chase and Midnight finds herself in very deep hot water when she ignore all instructions to drop the profile K, forget it ever happened. Delete all records...
And that's all I'm saying as you really do need to discover all the heinous shenanigans that happen within this book exactly at the right time for maximum impact. Suffice to say I was held captive all the way through, heart in mouth, as I devoured each glorious page of intrigue. We also have a few side stories to complement the main one, a few more secrets and lies and a smidge of otherwise dysfunctional behaviour that kept me on my toes throughout. And a little cameo from another of this author's wonderfully named characters... All of which baffled and obfuscated until, eventually, we got the whole, shocking, story... And breathe...
Wowsers! I finished this book shattered but wholly satisfied. I said after I read another couple of stand alones by this author that I really have to try her series. I am going to not only repeat this here, but also make more of a concerted effort to actually do so.

I’ve read several of Helen’s books in the DI Callanach series. They have been cleverly thought out and this stand alone was no exception. I had never heard of Renfield’s Syndrome and feel I’m now well informed. The book was rather gruesome in parts but had an excellent plot. I enjoyed the brief reintroduction of Connie Woolwine. Thanks to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read Helen’s latest offering.

I always adore Helen Field's books and this was no exception! Loved to meet these characters in this disturbing story.

From start to finish this book was gripping. I couldn’t wait to find out exactly what was happening, and though the subject was pretty terrifying I was fascinated. If this is typical of Helen Fields’ writing, then I think it’s about time to do some catch-up reading.
Our main character is Midnight Jones, a data analyst for Necto. The company is highly regarded, and has high expectations of their employees. When Midnight comes across some data anomalies, she looks further to find out what might be behind the problem. What she discovers is that the psychometric testing used by the company appears to have been pushed beyond its boundaries by a recent test case, known only as Profile K.
Nobody seems to take her concerns seriously. Yet not long after she comes up against some rather heavy stone-walking there’s a major company reshuffle and Midnight is promoted. She becomes increasingly fearful of the implications of her private questions…even more so when the body of a young woman is discovered, with similarities remarkably like that if the footage shown to her anonymous test case.
Without revealing any more of the plot, this is a story that operates on so many levels. The thriller element was absorbing, and the flashes we get into the head of the killer are truly sinister. Watching Midnight piece things together and coming to see the implications of her discoveries was compelling. And Doris…what a character!

I found it hard to get into at first because of all the technical stuff but once I got into the book I couldn’t put it down it was fantastic I felt worn out with all the tension and excitement.

Midnight works for Necto who studies peoples profiles and she finds a really disturbing one which is Profile K she tries to warn them but they didn’t believe her. When a horrific murder was committed she is now very worried.

Definitely recommend this amazing story,

Beginning with the brutal and excessively horrifying murder of a local woman, the neighbourhood is soon fearful of what seems like inevitable further attacks. Sensible women, murdered in their own homes, who appear to be taking all the right precautions, seem to be welcoming this killer inside.

As one would expect from Helen Fields, who has written some breathtaking standalone thrillers as well as the DI Callanagh series, this book has some outstanding characters: take a bow Midnight Jones who not only has a cool name but is also an outstanding character!

Midnight also has a cool sounding job, she works for Necto who analyse the brains of volunteer suspects. Sometimes this is for job applications or uni placements and other times just for interest. It suits Midnight just fine, headphones in and get on with the work, ignoring the overbearing bosses! As the title suggests, one day Midnight runs the process and gets notification of a Profile K... I am sure you can join the dots there on what the K stands for given the context of the book - and once a Profile K is found we'd be confident that Necto would alert the relevant authorities, wouldn't we. Would we?

Thankfully, our likeable protagonist Midnight Jones has a moral compass as big as the moon and this is highlighted by her homelife where she is a selfless carer for her sister Dawn. I was heartened by the arrival of Doris in the sisters' lives, although my suspicious mind worried whether she was too good to be true. I liked that Doctor Connie Woodwine (from The Institution) played a part too as I love it when authors drop characters into different books, making them seem more real.

Overall, this is a gruesome but clever thriller and I loved it. My thanks to NetGalley, the author, and Avon Books UK for a copy in return for an honest review.

An amazing read for this wonderful author. I loved the background it was based and midnight was a brilliant character. I enjoyed all the characters and midnight relationship with her sister.

I love books by Helen Fields and I think this might be my favourite so far. It had such an original plot, and I was captivated from the first page.
I loved the futuristic feel to the story. Midnight Jones is a profile analyst at a bio tech company and comes across a Profile K file (K for killer). Who is this person, and could he be connected to the recent murders? Why is the company protecting the file? Is Midnight in danger?
The suspense throughout this book was brilliant. I loved the characters, and I really couldn't predict what would happen. There were some fantastic twists, too! I did find some of Midnight's decisions a bit frustrating at the end, but I was willing her to succeed, and I loved the ending. The whole book had such a creepy, sinister atmosphere too, which I loved. It was a five-star read for me, and I can't wait to read more by this brilliant author.

Profile K is a tense, chillingly good nail biting read that is not for the faint hearted.

The book draw you in slowly as the author sets up the premise of Midnight Jones for works for a bio tech company reviewing profiles.

One profile sets off an alert that is labeled Profile K.

Midnight is determined to figure out what this means.

The company is determined that Midnight does not find out and will do anything to prevent her from doing so.

Midnight is a twin and her sister Dawn with special needs is totally dependent on her so she cant afford to lose her job.

Horrific murders are taking place close to where Midnight lives . The police have never seen such brutal killings. A slaughter really.

Midnight thinks somehow these murders are connected to her horrific discovery.

Helen Fields of whom I am big fan, is a master of keeping the reader hooked with twist and turns, red herrings and hold your breath books and Profile K is no exception.

The book is a journey the reader must take on their own but I will say its chillingly good, lock your doors and be prepared to read into the night.

I am hoping we see Midnight Jones again.

Before I started this book this morning, I had only planned to read until I'd finished my coffee, but the day disappeared as I continued reading to the end. I kept trying to guess who the murderer was while hoping Midnight and Dawn would survive not only the murderer, but Midnight's employer. The characters were well written and I thought one was creepy enough to be the killer, but I won't spoil it by saying who. A book I would recommend reading

Midnight is juggling her job with looking after her handicapped twin sister after their parents decide to leave them to go travelling. With a highly demanding job involving profiling applicants for interviews and a manager who has little sympathy for any personal struggles, she is disturbed when one applicant appears to be a profile K. Trying to alert the senior management proves to be futile as they close ranks and ultimately move her to another department. With an apparent serial killer in town and her fears that this applicant could be one and the same she is struggles to be believed so takes matters into her own hands.
A fantastic storyline that is fast paced, full of red herrings, thrilling, gory at times and certainly breath taking. A must read page turner from a brilliant author

The main, totally believable, character Midnight Jones starts work for Necto Corporation in London, a biotech company, specialising in the human brain.

Midnight’s role is to assess applicant profiles for many things including important university places. All this is slightly terrifying and quite sinister. especially when she gets a profile of data scores that has to be untrue with maybe a system glitch or corrupt data in her computer. (Don't get me started on the Post Office scandal!).

On her own Midnight probes a little deeper ending up with a profiler - Profile K. The 'K' does NOT stand for 'kissing.' . After referring the profile to senior members of Necto she is asked to leave the job. No more spoilers!. She has no option but to get the police involved and eventually DI Jock Ruskin starts investigating.

The consequences of Midnight's 'relationship' with Profile K are enormous and scary. Ms Fields does not shy away from violence and in this regard I would say she is an author who is 'a cut above the rest'. 'I'll get my coat!.

Brilliant characters drawn in to the story, well drawn as you can expect with any of Ms Fields' other books.. A class act.

Deep, Dark, Chilling..
A deep, dark and chilling premise is executed perfectly in this edge of seat suspense which drags the reader, possibly kicking and screaming, into the grisly depths of the mind of a killer and psychopath via a feisty and fearless protagonist. The author succeeds in immediately drawing the reader in with a shattering, frankly terrifying, opening and it doesn’t stop there - as the shocks and the twists keep coming at alarming rate.

Midnight Jones analyses data for organisations as part of their employment process. When Midnight comes across a disturbing set of data hinting at sociopathic or psychopathic tendencies her employer tries to persuade her that it's just a glitch in the system. A brutal murder nearby convinces Midnight that the data and the murderer are linked. It becomes a cat-and-mouse race as Midnight tries to identify the murderer before he tracks her down.

The opening chapter of Profile K by Helen Fields is dark and disturbing, it sets the tone for this chilling thriller that has a dystopian element. I became a fan of the author back in 2022 when I read One For Sorrow, book 7 in the Luc Callanach and Ava Turner series. While this series features some dark and twisted elements it's the books that feature Dr Connie Woolwine, the psychological profiler, that are the darkest. Woolwine only plays a small part in Profile K but you know that her involvement points to something sinister.

At times it almost feels as if you are reading two different books as the story switches between the point of view of the killer and that of Midnight Jones. Seeing into the mind of the killer is chilling. As I was reading my brain was asking me if I'd locked the door and did I have enough lights on. It certainly makes you realise how vulnerable we all are, even in our own homes.

We have a less disturbing story when we switch to Midnight's point of view. Midnight is a likeable character. Frustrated by the constraints of her job at Necto but forced to comply as she's reliant on the above-average salary. Midnight has a twin sister, Dawn, who has severe special needs. Their parents have abandoned them to travel the world and Midnight is determined that her sister will not end up in residential care, hence her need for a well-paying job.

Necto, the company Midnight works for, is almost as disturbing as the killer. Initially, it sounds as if it is an ideal place to work with its stunning buildings, beautiful environment and enhanced pay. However, working for Necto isn't all fun and games, there are strict policies in place to ensure time isn't wasted and secrets aren't stolen. NDA's and the threat of litigation hang over everyone's head.

When Midnight comes across the disturbing profile Necto tries to downplay the data, passing it off as an anomaly and promoting Midnight in an attempt to buy her off. The idea of psychometric testing and it's results raises some interesting questions. Will someone who displays sociopathic or psychopathic tendencies always act on them? Should you incarcerate someone simply because of a psychological profile?

A game of cat and mouse ensues, with Midnight and the killer spiraling closer and closer. Everyone comes under suspicion, particularly with Necto playing a "Big Brother" role. You'll find yourself holding your breath as Midnight fights to protect those she loves. And when you're finished, you'll probably double-check you've locked the door.

But when she stumbles across a Profile K applicant - someone whose psychopathy is so worrying it’s off the scale - a chilling tale unfolds.
This is the first Fields novel I’ve read, and I found it really enjoyable.
Midnight Jones - a career for her twin sister Dawn who has learning disabilities- is such a believable character.
This novel kept me gripped.

Profile K by Helen Fields is another terrifying addition to her current body of work. With a 1st chapter that will either have you gripped or running to make sure your locks are secure! Don’t miss it. Helen is an author whose books I read without fail.

Just wow!! I started Profile K at 10am this morning and haven’t been able to put it down. Full disclosure, I am a big Helen Fields fan and this one is definitely her
best yet…

From the opening pages, we are introduced to a sadistic killer who loves to torture and inflict as much damage to his victim as possible. Can he be stopped?

Midnight, is a twin looking after her high needs sister and working as an analyst for Necto, a rapidly growing, global biotech corporation. When Midnight notices an anomaly in one of her profiles, a Profile K, she immediately raises her concern.

Profile K is a term given to only the most extreme cases. Total apathetic, sociopathic and psychopathic.

When the murders increase, Midnight has a growing fear of being watched.

Told from multiple perspectives (including victims and the attacker) this was a fast paced, gripping novel that pulsed with trepidation and suspense as the killer comes closer. What sets this book apart though is the idea of what makes a killer and how the mind can be manipulated. It also highlights the fear and risks that women face just going about their daily lives.

Wow! That's all I can really say about this. Its one of those books that gets under your skin and gives you absolute chills! I loved the writing style and the characters if Midnight. The premise was original and so relatable because what would you do?! What can you do?! There supporting characters were all also well written and fleshed out which was also a nice change, these were all actual people woth dimension. It is quite dark and most definitely chilling but in the best possible way! Absolute outstanding
