I do love a book by this author and this was deliciously dark and a great idea. I just got so engrossed and kept reading as I needed to know what was going to happen next.

Helen Fields has written a gem of a book!
It’s full of very scary, profiling research, brutal murders, and a very smart woman!

Midnight Jones works as a profiler for a company that does recruitment work. Applicants take online surveys, to determine their suitability for job positions.
While evaluating surveys, Midnight comes across an abnormal response, and discovers that a survey is filled with horrific videos of killings and torture.
What Midnight has seen is something she can’t report, due to confidentiality clauses in her work contact.
After seeing this profile, two horrific murders happen in her neighborhood.
Could these murders be triggered by the videos an applicant watched?

Read this fast paced, roller coaster ride, and find out the thrilling ending!

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon Books for the opportunity to read this book.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

An intelligent psychological thriller that asks interesting questions whilst putting some engaging characters through the ringer.

It's an intriguing concept executed well with this authors trademark addictive quality and great writing.

Overall a wildly entertaining read.

Unfortunately Profile K just wasn't for me. It was to dark and graphic for my taste. If I had realised this I would not have chosen to read it.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC.

When working to review profiles of people applying for jobs and universities, Midnight Jones comes across one she has never seen before, Profile K. Further investigation leads her to learn this means the person in question is a sociopath or psychopath.

She is concerned by this and becomes disturbed when two women are murdered close to where she lives and she believes Profile K is the killer.
Working to try and find Profile K’s identity before they can kill again she puts her job and her life at risk.

I really liked Midnight as a character and her caring for her twin sister Dawn showed off her compassionate side.
The idea is a really interesting premise and I love the idea of a company being able to profile people in this way and what that may uncover.

I enjoyed Helen Fields way of unfolding the plot and her gory description of the murders and crime scenes reminded me of the Chris Carter, Robert Hunter series.

There are lots of strong female character in the story and I would really love this to be the first in a series.

Wow what a crazy read. Fast paced edge of your seat kind of thriller. The characters were great and the story line moved smoothly. This one had such a unique plot and gave me goosebumps more than once.
An unputdownable heart stopping thriller

I could not put this book down!

This book sucked me in from the start, and I tore through it in two days, only stopping to work and sleep. The pace, the story, the twists and turns - I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. More than just being a top-notch thriller, though, it invites you to think about the ethics of technology and how it's implemented. There's also themes in there about found family, sibling love, and parental abandonment.

Midnight is a complex and compelling character, and the author did a fantastic job of making her relatable and well-rounded. Almost from the beginning, I felt like I was reading a TV-show script, and I wouldn't be surprised if this was adapted to the screen one day. This is the first book I've read by Helen Fields but most definitely won't be the last.

Content note: There are some graphic gory scenes, so you may want to avoid if you're particularly squeamish. That said, they aren't gratuitous and fit their place in the story well.

4.5 stars rounded up to 5 because 4 doesn't do it justice.

Can I just say.. wow! What a book. After reading The Institution last year and finding out that Helen was releasing another book, I literally counted down the months until this was released. I was not disappointed.

This book had me holding my breath, anxious and so scared for the characters. Midnight was the ultimate badass. She was brave and never took no for an answer. She saved lives.

Dawn and Doris, they was amazing characters. Doris being the maternal figure I think Midnight and Dawn needed in their lives. Dawn was just the sweetest sister. Even with all of her problems, she warmed my heart.

I didn't think much of DI Josk Ruskin. He seemed like he was going to be a real good guy, to then just turn around and walk away just for a better paycheck!

Overall, this book was tense, mysterious, and so, so good. Please go check it out!

Dark and impactful from the start. The murderer emerges from routine psychological profiling used in recruitment processes. Midnight, a highly trained operative in a profiling tech company discovers a disturbing profile that shouldn't exist but does. A killer is out there, and unfortunately, they know about Midnight. The race to capture the killer or die ensues with mounting intensity and suspense. You invest in the varied characters, and what happens to them resonates. I like the story's believable characters, the contemporary ethos and the immersive intensity.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher.

I say this with every new book I read by Helen Fields, and I'm going to say it again...this is my favourite one by her so far!!! I did not believe she could surpass "The Institute," but she has proven me wrong. Definitely one of my favourite books of the year!

This captivating read held my attention from beginning to end. The concept that such events could transpire in real life, or even have already occurred, adds an unsettling layer to the narrative.

A serial killer is brutally murdering young women, and the question arises: what is their connection to the Netco Corporation?

Midnight Jones, a profiler employed by Netco, is tasked with evaluating applicants to ensure their suitability for higher education courses based on academic qualifications, interests, and personality traits.

However, an unusual profile crosses her desk, unlike any she has encountered before. It is a Profile K, supposedly nonexistent and added as a jest, as the letter K stands for "killer."

Buckle up, you're in for a wild ride!

Helen has garnered considerable popular acclaim for her series about Edinburgh detectives DI Luc Callenach and DCI Ava Turner, but with Profile K she heads off in a fresh direction, with a new central character.

Midnight Jones is an analyst trained to understand the human mind. She works for a London biotech company creating profiles based on applications received by various companies and educational institutes. One day the application she’s reviewing comes up as Profile K, K for Killer, which she’s never come across before. To confirm the results, she takes the same test herself and is soon convinced of the applicant’s potential threat. She raises her concerns with her employer, but is told to drop it and is reminded of her privacy obligations. Nevertheless she persists with her efforts and finds herself in pursuit of a serial killer.

This is a clever, scary novel that provides an interesting twist on the standard serial killer thriller. The book starts with a shocking killing, and the pace rarely lets up, as Midnight pursues her target. The background information is interesting, and Midnight is an engaging central character who is nicely fleshed out. Her relationship with her disabled sister is touching, and for the most part she goes about her investigations in a credible and logical manner. Readers of Helen’s earlier books will also appreciate the appearance of the marvelously named Doctor Connie Woolwine from The Shadow Man and The Institution.

Regular readers will also not be surprised by the book’s gruesomeness, and there is plenty of violence and detailed descriptions of death and injury. The chapters from the perspective of ‘The Applicant’ are particularly confronting, and this is certainly not a book for the squeamish.

Overall, a good piece of entertainment for fans of dark serial killer thrillers.

Another dark, disturbing read from Helen Fields. I enjoyed the more modern feel to this book with the technology side of things and it had good pace. It was maybe a little far fetched how things came together but I still enjoyed it and it would make a great TV show. Midnight was a good main character and I loved her relationship with her twin sister. The Shadow Man still sticks in my mind, even though I read it three years ago, so it was a nice surprise to find Connie and Baarda pop up in this book too. Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books UK for letting me read and review this book.

Completely gripping story with such a great plot! This book is brilliant! I went into this one blind, and it was such a pleasant surprise. This is so different from what I normally red, but I loved it. The character development was superb. I connected to Midnight and was rooting for her the whole way. Yes, she did some annoying things, but she definitely was a character based in integrity. I could easily see this being a series giving us more and more Midnight!

There are twists and turns throughout tis story, and most of them were shocking to me. This book was fast paced, and kept me intrigued the whole way through. The plot was so well- thought-out and delivered in a way that kept me wanting more as the chapters went on. This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won't be my last.

I've always wanted to read a book by Helen Fields and the previous two books that were on Netgalley declined so I was quite happy to receive this book. It came out on the 25th of April and I received a copy from Avon books UK via Netgalley.

Profile k, where the k stands for killer. That's what analyst Midnight Jones discovers when a file with this profile comes up. An absolutely dangerous person walking the streets and now he has a new target because her name is sent through the moment she opened the file.

In general, books by this author are rated quite highly. As is the case with this book and I completely understand why. With a bit of a futuristic element - understanding the even mind for applications - this thriller delivers what it promises: a dark and terrifying journey into the mind of a killer. I absolutely love the idea that decisions can be made based on a test which then is quite the impact on the future of a person. And that's what the story is about. I like the characters as well, although the main character goes from 0 to a 100 rather fast. But that doesn't take away the fun I had while reading this brilliant thriller.

This definitely won't be my last book by this author as I liked the book quite a lot.

Profile K is a heck of a read that I enjoyed.
Midnight works for Necto, she is trained to understand in depth the human mind, the company she works for specialises in analyzing the brain. Midnight analyses someone but they come into the class of profile k, k meaning killer, she goes back through the test and determines this is someone who is going to kill and probably not stop, but this profile isn’t meant to exist but Midnight now knows it does.
This was a very different read that I enjoyed, the characters were really well developed and I loved Midnights relationship with her sister. I really liked how you just got a snapshot into a woman’s life before she was killed, this made it really real and I was more emotionally attached because of the way it was written. The whole book was quite a dark read but worked well because of this.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Avon Books UK for this ARC I received in exchange for an honest review.

I was absolutely gripped by Profile K and kept in suspense as to whether Midnight Jones would catch the murderer or would she end up dead? It definitely had the fear factor, and I felt Midnight's character was well developed, which helped as I felt afraid for her and wished she would be believed more by her colleagues.

I also found the exploration of how technology and AI can be used to track people disturbing.

A thoroughly spine chilling read full of twists and turns, it had my heart racing right until the very end for the dramatic finale

I loved The Institution, and I also loved this one but it didn't quite have the edge for me.

It was a pretty intense story line, which wasn't short of details to conjure up horrific images in your mind. The plot was well crafted and in many ways very realistic, what with the untouchable might of Necto.

I just think in some parts there could have been more depth? Helen could have made this book longer and given us even more with the interesting storyline.

But overall, a really solid read that I would highly recommend!
