Midnight Jones knows that in some ways she is lucky. She has a job that pays very well, and her office building is the envy of many who see it from the outside. The inside is very different, Necto is incredibly secretive, and employees are forbidden to discuss their work with even their closest colleagues.
Midnight’s job is analysing applicant data for a local university, she has no personal details, just the data for how they react to a series of tests. When she comes across and applicant that registers a score she has never seen before Midnight doesn’t know who to go to. The profile has come back as K for Killer.
When a local woman is killed in the most brutal way, Midnight is sure the killer is her profile K. But no one wants to listen. Necto are determined to close down Midnights investigations, and very soon she realises that there is no one she can trust.
How do you find a killer when all you have is the certainty that he will kill again, and that you could be his next victim.
If you like to be kept on the edge of your seat, holding your breath but not able to stop reading this is for you. It’s tense, twisty and utterly brilliant! It deserves at least 10 stars.

This is the first book I have read from Helen Fields, but it is easy to see why her books are so popular! From the start of the book I was hooked and needed to know what would happen.

Profile K follows the protagonist, Midnight Jones, who is a profile analyst at a very well known corporation, Necto. While reviewing one applicant’s file, she discovers she has found a Profile K (K for killer). Thus begins her quest to find out who this person is and prevent him from harming anyone. Except, she is met with many obstacles in her way, putting her in the path of the killer.

This book was a fast paced and entertaining read. It was definitely a lot more gruesome and darker than I had anticipated but that did not prevent me from enjoying the book. I think those scenes actually separated it from your run of the mill thriller. If you’re looking for a bit of a darker suspenseful novel, this is definitely the one for you!

I have read a lot of Helen Field’s books, and she is usually a 5-star author for me! As far as Crime Thrillers go, she is an assured writer with interesting and flawed main characters and really dark villains. I was excited to read her latest standalone – Profile K.

Midnight works for a large tech company and analyses high-tech test results for job postings and university courses to profile applicants. But when she comes across a Profile K – the mythical Killer profile, questions need to be asked about what crimes they have already committed and how much this applicant may know about her…

Profile K is another strong thriller from Fields, although be warned that there are some genuinely hard to read chapters from the killer’s point of view. Midnight is a complex main character – looking after her twin sister with severe special needs and needing to toe the line at her job at Necto to be paid enough to help both of them survive. This means she does make some silly decisions at times, but they are completely understandable in the context of her motivations. There are also chapters from ‘The Applicant’ point of view which drip-feed the reader key information and backstory on their character.

The Necto side of the story is quite sci-fi in nature, and it felt a little too much like a stereotypical ‘evil corporation’ in some ways. I found the idea of a shake-up of jobs with everyone being assigned a different department and team a little too convenient as well - it seemed unrealistic and just used for ‘plot’ purposes.

Profile K can be read as a standalone – there is a brief guest appearance from Connie Woolwine which was a nice surprise, but this will have no impact on readers who have not read The Shadow Man or The Institution (although if you enjoyed Profile K, I heavily recommend those as next reads!).

Overall Profile K is a dark and twisty thriller – another gripping read from Helen Fields. Thank you to NetGalley & Avon Books UK for the chance to read the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Midnight is an analyst working with the human mind. When she stumbles on Profile K she knows he is very dangerous.
No one believes her when she tries to tell them how dangerous he is even after the first brutal murder.
Then she realises he is coming for her!

Midnight Jones is an analyst working for the Necto Corporation, whilst profiling a potential candidate via virtual headset she comes across a macabre video and the results from the candidate shock her. Despite the horrific scenes there is no empathy or emotion shown by the applicant. Taking the feedback to her seniors she's told a profile K ( for killer) doesn't exist and to forget what she's seen
DI Ruskin is a detective faced with solving the grisly murder of a young girl Chloe, when another murder is linked he soon realises a serial killer is on the loose. When the killings reach Midnight she takes her concerns to Ruskin but is facing suspension from her job for leaking confidential information.
I've read many of Helen Fields novels, each time I say it's my favourite and again this one now is. Forensic Profiler Connie Woolwine from The Institution makes a reappearance and its good to get her invaluable insight into the killer and the reasons for their actions.
Doris was also a great character.
This, in parts, has particularly grisly gory descriptions of the murders so do not go into the book lightly but I found it a fascinating subject matter and a brilliant read.

Thank you kindly to NetGalley and Avon Books UK for the digital review copy.

I think a lot of readers will enjoy this one; such an interesting premise and plot, but it fell somewhat short for me. Midnight was a frustrating character in that she consistently put herself and her twin sister in danger, quite recklessly at times. I also struggled to get into the story from the get-go. The first chapter was definitely shocking and impactful, but the third-person narration left me wanting more and slightly uninvested.

Overall, I see this one being a hit for many readers, but it just wasn't quite my cup of tea.

2.5 rounded up to 3

When analyst Midnight comes across an anomaly in her profiling work, she believes she has found an individual who is highly dangerous. Her suspicions are confirmed when a woman is horrifically murdered nearby, and Midnight fears that she will be in danger if the killer can work out who she is.

Profile K is a brilliantly shocking thriller that I could not put down.

The opening chapter left me completely shaken. It really drew me in and I was hooked from the very start. I felt so overwhelmingly invested in the outcome of this story.

The mystery of the plot was like a giant puzzle to me, I kept turning it over in my mind trying to view it from different angles and come up with an idea of what was really going on.

This book is fast-paced and at time incredibly terrifying, it will definitely take you on a journey that you won't forget.

Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books for sending this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.

This is a good book with lots of twist and turns. I'm just not a massive fan of this genre. Although it did drag me in and if you are.a fan of this genre you will really dig it.

More breath taking than I thought possible! It’s definitely full of momentum, twists and turns, whilst packed with impending horror! Midnight works within a large company that is unbeknown to her is not as truthful as they make out to be.

I am a huge fan of Helen Field's work and this book luckily lived up to the expectations!

This is a twisted, dark story following Midnight Jones, a data analyst for an admission board who discovers an anomaly in one of the data sets she is reviewing... a Profile K (K for killer), rarely found in dangerous psychopaths... From there, she is torn with what to do, especially because as soon as she reports this, weird things start to happen.

I was immediately drawn in this rollercoaster of a thriller, the premise was amazing, the chapter switching between characters so different that it kept the attention high a all times. I loved the brief involvement of Dr Woolwine, that makes me hope for a sequel (and possibly more!) where she and Midnight will work together.

Definitely a book I will recommend.

2I received an E-ARC with a request for my honest review.

This chilling crime thriller follows Midnight, an analyst, who as part of her job studies anonymous profiles to determine if they meet the right criteria for applications. Suddenly she discovers a profile K, one she has never seen before and soon learns it is nicknamed as a ‘Killer’ profile.

Profile K – He has tried to hold back his urges for many years but after taking the profiling test, his impulses return.

Midnight is determined to find out more about this new profile K, and following a recent local murder she is frightened her research may become deadly.

Who is profile K? Will Midnight uncover who is behind the mysterious profile?

This crime thriller is not only chilling, but a thrilling read. Straight from the start the storyline has you gripped. This is certainly a book which will stay with me for a while.

This story is not for the faint-hearted though as it can get quite graphic with the details of the murder victim, I don’t think I’ve ever heard such disturbing way in which someone was killed.

I felt there was a touch of dystopia/Sci-Fi to the storyline with the profiling head sets which they use with the new technology they are developing. This on its own was scary, how much they could find out about a person just from one test.

Overall, a chilling crime thriller where an analyst tries to discover the identity of the terrifying Profile K.

Profile K by Helen Fields

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I was delighted to get approved for this arc on NetGalley as I’ve been a massive fan of Helen Fields for years! The DI Callanach series has been one of my favourite book series since I first read them and I’ve followed her work ever since!

Profile K was gripping right from the start and sets the scene of a not so unbelievable data company taking advantage of people and their information. It’s quite chilling at times just reading about the way the information is used because it’s so realistic and could very well be happening!

The story itself was just as good - full of tense moments and gory details! If you’re squeamish or sensitive to gore it’s probably not a good read for you, but Fields has such a way of painting a scene you can almost scene it in front of you while you’re reading!

The book came to a natural end and tied everything up well and was a great pace throughout! I loveee that Connie Woolwine appeared again and it just adds the book into the rest of Helen’s world! Easy recommendation if you’ve read and enjoyed any of her other works, or you’d like to read a crime book with a technology based twist!

This book starts very strongly, and certainly isn't for the squeamish. In an almost futuristic society, Midnight Jones works for a company that profiles applicants for various posts/jobs/courses. However, Midnight finds herself profiling someone who is way off the chart - Profile K - someone who has been sent her name!

Midnight lives with her disabled twin, Dawn, juggling carers and job as her parents have decided they are owed a better life and have left the young women to sort things out themselves, both financially and in matters of responsibility. One has to feel sorry for having such incredibly self-centred parents, but Midnight's heart is good and she will do anything for Dawn. But its a heavy burden.

However, the profiling of 'Profile K' has opened the door for him to revisit the tendencies his parents tried to suppress when he was younger, and he's about to go on an escalating spree to satisfy his urges.

Its an exciting, rollercoaster of a read, and certainly kept my attention. I thought the first half better than the second, as the reader becomes mired in red herrings and follows the killer as he seeks revenge/justification for his desires. The characters were portrayed well, I really liked Doris!

A dark and twisted tale…..What an imagination; the plotting keeps the possibilities and storyline plausible, which makes it all the more chilling. Her descriptions of violent death are memorable but without being gratuitous. She has a keen ear for dialogue and character and that’s what makes every book a sure fire winner.

I devoured this in 2 days!.
My first read by Helen Fields and to say this was gripping is an understatement.
I love a good physiological thriller, but this just blew me away. Fast paced from the very beginning and whilst it did contain a bit of graphic violence (some of which I had to just skim over), it wasn’t just your ‘run of the mill’ serial killer story. The story was alot more complex than that. It has a killer on the loose, women murdered, a young woman hell bent on discovering the truth behind the data she found whilst profiling applicants in her corporate job, and multimillion corporation hell bent on making sure she doesn’t expose their flaws!

I loved the main protagonist, Midnight Jones. She was so likeable, especially when learn about her childhood, and how she came to be the sole carer for her twin sister who is intellectually disabled.

The Applicant, Teddy, gave me quite the Jeffrey Dahmer vibes. He literally made my skin crawl.
I could definitely see this book on the TV. Terrifyingly brilliant.

Thank you so much to Avon Books Uk, and Netgally for the advanced copy.

Helen Fields is a master at capturing a killer's dark, twisted mind. Be it her DI Callanach or Connie Woolwine series, she consistently delivers captivating characters and unique plots. This standalone book is no exception.

Midnight Jones, a profile analyst at the highly structured and client-confidential Necto Corporation, is startled to find a Profile K applicant file--K indicating killer. When she brings the file to management's attention, she is told it is an anomaly and that there is no such thing as a Profile K. Then a murder occurs whose killer fits the Profile K applicant's profile. Midnight is conflicted: go against company confidentiality rules and contact the police or keep her much-needed job. Knowing the killer is likely to strike again, Midnight faces not only a moral dilemma but also the real possibility of putting herself in the path of the killer.

Although this plot seems futuristic, the author's notes state that this profiling technology is already available, bringing thoughts of Big Brother to mind and the dilemma Midnight faced very real. This is a fast-paced psychological thriller with a murderer whose twisted thoughts are brilliantly captured in a dark and fascinating plot. If you have not read a Helen Fields book, "Profile K" is an excellent introduction to her complex characters and plots. 4,5 stars,

A dark and twisted thriller with a violent start and satisfying.denoument. I enjoyed the characters especially the charismatic Midnight, particularly poignant her loving relationship with twin sister Dawn. A fast paced, clever novel. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc.

This is my first Helen Fields’ book so I didn’t know what to expect but from the very first page I was gripped.

The book opens with a woman’s violent terrifying murder. There is a false sense of calm in the next chapters when we are introduced to Midnight Jones who works as an analyst for a powerful tech company and is also the main carer for her twin sister Dawn. The tension soon ratchets back up when we meet The Applicant, whose profile Midnight has analysed with terrifying consequences. She knows he’s the killer … and he knows her name.

And then another woman gets murdered…

The story was fast-paced, taut, brutal at times and came to a dramatic conclusion. I could never have guessed how this would end. I really hope there will be more books with Midnight Jones. I would definitely read another Helen Fields’ book … with the lights on!

Thank you so much to NetGalley and Avon Books for the ARC.

Another standalone from this author, who is fast becoming one of my favourites.

This book had everything I needed to keep me turning the pages; an excellent storyline, some great characters, and some not so great which still made for good reading, just enough information about the murders that didn’t make me squirm, a face from the past and a really good ending!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
