I was intrigued by the premise of this book but in all honesty, wasn't sure it was going to be to my taste. Fortunately, I couldn't have been more wrong!

The Wobble Club is an absolute treat of a novel. It's funny, hilarious at times, but without detracting from the seriousness of the multitude of themes that are touched on. We have insightful commentary on personal health and eating habits, examination of societal expectations relating to weight and body image, and a lot of very relatable commentary on relationships and mental health.

Brolly and his girlfriend Gill are obese, massively so, and have no intention to become less so. Surrounded by an eclectic mix of friends and associates, they live a life of excess. But when tragedy strikes, Brolly is hit with a major wake-up call. Unfortunately, Gill isn't keeping up with his lifestyle changes and he soon finds that life is never as easy as it seems.

On top of all this, the novel features a plot twist that took me by complete and utter surprise. It is rare that I feel so completely blown away by a novel, especially when the twist is so cleverly set up from the beginning - Rumley has perfected the art of subtlety, and nailed the big reveal.

Honestly, I couldn't recommend this novel more highly. It's an absolute delight, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to read and review!

unnecessarily long, rather dull, and quite dangerous subject matter treated without requisite sensitivity
