Wow, what a book! This gripping tale had me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. Lets just say if my attic wasn't converted already I would be paranoid at the mere thought of someone lurking up there! The pacing was relentless, making it impossible to put down; I found myself flipping through the pages at breakneck speed.

Just when I thought I had it all figured out, the author masterfully threw me for a loop with unexpected twists and turns. There was a moment when I was convinced I had cracked the case, only to realise I was completely off track. Yet, that's what made the journey so thrilling. Each revelation kept me guessing until the very end.

What I particularly enjoyed was how the author planted subtle clues along the way, allowing for those 'aha' moments of realisation. There were times when I suspected certain characters, only to second-guess myself as more compelling suspects emerged. It's a testament to Andrea Mara's skillful storytelling that even when I thought I had the answer, she managed to keep me guessing.

Overall, this was an immensely satisfying read, and it has left me eagerly anticipating more from Andrea Mara. If you're a fan of fast-paced thrillers with unexpected twists, this book is an absolute must-read

It's all about the attic! Fast read, only okay in my opinion. Probably worth a read. It's not my favourite book by this author

Someone in the Attic follows Julia and her family after they move back to Dublin from San Diego and start to receive strange videos of someone in their house. The kids are spooked but Julia thinks there must be a simple explanation. I was keen to read this book as I enjoyed No One Saw a Thing and this one didn't disappoint. The second half really gripped me as the story unfolded and whilst it was a little far fetched it was great escapism. Some chapters ended in cliff-hangers which were quickly shown to be red herrings which was disappointing but there was enough to keep me interested. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a decent thriller.

For me, off to a bit of a slow start but then the book is a real page-turner (not just because the headline reviews say so!!). You are presented with lots of who and why to solve. I mentally made my confident decision half way through and as usual I was hopelessly wrong.
The book never slows and never ever drags with over descriptive paragraphs that lead nowhere. The book really gets home how easy it is in life to put 2 and 2 together and get anything but 4.
I absolutely loved this book, the characters are believable and never over the top. No room for any follow up but would make a brilliant streaming series.
Don't miss it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Someone in the Attic by Andrea Mara

In the opening scene, we meet Anya relaxing with a glass of wine in the bath thinking she is all alone in the house. That is until she hears the attic door open and some come down. The next thing we know Anya is dead.

Julia, Anya’s old school friend, has moved back from California with her family to a brand new house. Her daughter alerts her to videos online of a masked figure climbing out of an attic and videoing around the house. What makes this so scary is that it is her attic and her house in the video.

Andrea Mara never seems to disappoint and not with this one. The fear and suspense had me on the edge of my seat the whole time reading this. The masked man enters Julia’s son Luca’s room and the way Mara describes this scene is hair-raising. The fear that was rising inside little Luca, the man’s footsteps, his smell, his breathing, the darkness, how he felt the man’s face so close to him had me shaken with fright.

This was such a creepy, thrilling read that will have you checking under your bed but one that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Thank you to NetGalley for a digital ARC of this book.

Omg what was that and when will my skin stop crawling 😱. This one is a must read and has such a creep factor you will never look at an attic the same. I couldn’t get enough and couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out what was actually going on. I actually patted myself on the back at one stage as I thought I had it all figured out but that was short lived and then I set my sights on another scenario and of course I doubled back again, my mind was in a tizzy. But in fairness that’s what I call a well written storyline. Both the storyline and the characters were really well developed and the pace was just right with giving you just enough and then keeping you hanging. This was another crazy whirlwind read from Andrea Mara and I for one hope she keeps them coming.

Thank you to NetGalley, RandomHouse and the author for an ARC of Someone in the Attic.

This book had me hooked from the very start and I read it very quickly. It kept me guessing and I did not guess the outcome until a few pages before it was revealed. Plenty of twists and turns. Only slight flaw I had was that the FMC seemed a bit dense at times - not realising Tony was talking about her on the phone and not alerting the guards who were downstairs when she felt someone under her bed. That did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the book. I have no doubt that this will be a very popular book this summer! 4.5 stars rounded up

There's nothing more exhilarating than stumbling into a 5-star read by an author you've never read from before. This was spectacular. I have been having some reading induced headaches lately, but I was so hooked, I just increased the font size to max and powered through. I HAD TO KNOW what was going to happen next!

Imagine you're scrolling through social media, and see a video on your feed that catches your eye. A creepy video of a loft hatch opening and a dark clothed, masked man dropping down into an eerily silent house. Now imagine the feeling when you realise that house is yours. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK! Someone in the attic is my weirdly specific, night terror inducing phobia. Someone In The Attic is my new favourite read.

This is the second book that I have read by Andrea Mara and it was quite a chilling read! I’m quite pleased I don’t have an attic 🤣🤣

The story starts with a shocking event—a stranger commits a crime after emerging from an attic. As the plot unfolds, Julia and her family discover creepy videos filmed inside their own home, hinting at someone hiding in their attic.

It’s one of those books that makes you think you’re hearing noises in your own home, so I would suggest you read it during the day! A thrilling read that ties up all the loose ends nicely, a total must read for lovers of a good psychological thriller.

Someone in the attack opens up with Anya having a relaxing bath with a glass of wine unbeknownst that in a few seconds a stranger is coming out of the attic and is going to kill her.

Julia, one of Anya’s oldest friends has moved back to Ireland with her family due to some unforeseen circumstances that we later learn about in the book. After being alerted by her daughter Isla about a TikTok trend that is too close to home we find out a masked stranger is filming themselves going through Julia’s home. Is this a prank or is something worse going on?

Investigating this with help of her other close friend Eleanor we learn about the past of this friend group and a tragedy that occurred and I wondered if what was going on had something to do with that but we learn more about Julia’s neighbours, her ex husband and at this point I didn’t know who to trust and if more than one person was behind this horrible situation.

Everything about this book was suspenseful and sinister feeling. I felt the fear her children felt and wanted to know who said intruder was. So many twists and turns that eventually at the end all wrap themselves up. From the moment I started I couldn’t stop turning the pages till I got till the very end and the ending was satisfying. I truly enjoyed this book even though it was one of my actual real fears of someone living in my attic but overall I would most definitely recommend and I know it’s going to be a must read for book readers who enjoy a claustrophobic feel when reading.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers and Random House UK, Transworld Publishers for the copy of this arc in exchange of my full honest review.

Julia is shown a video of her friend, Anya, in her bathroom and a man in black clothes. How is this possible? She just moved in with her family, who else has keys, who is in her attic? The first half is slow paced, but it picks up towards the end.

I'm surprised I got to the end of this book given how many times I held my breath or had a mild heart attack along the way. I've seen a few reviews saying this will make you want to check your attic! Hell no, I'm going for locks and bolts instead 🤣

In all seriousness though, I love a good scare and this book delivers! It is proper spine chilling and the plot is brilliantly executed, with interesting characters and excellent twists and turns. With Andrea Mara books I've learned not to try and guess what's going on, instead to buckle up and enjoy the ride, and boy is this one I won't forget in a while. It's fast paced and full of tension; if you like a good thriller pick this up, you'll not regret it (Unless like me you love a good bath and your attic hatch is right outside the bathroom 🙈🤣!!)

The book opens with a man dropping down from an attic hatch while a woman sips wine in the bath while thinking she’s in the house alone. From that heart pounding opening, the pace never lets up in this addictive thriller. Following the apparent accidental drowning of her one-time friend, Julia is perturbed to discover videos online that appear to have been filmed inside the house she and her family have just moved into after returning to Ireland following several years in the US. But they should be safe in their affluent gated community—right? Short chapters keep the pace racing along, the cliffhanger endings mean you always want to read ‘just one more chapter’ and terrific character development means you’re invested in what happens to the key players as secrets from the past starting coming to light. My first book by this author and it won’t be my last! An addictive, stay up all night thriller.

This is a book I needed to read in the daylight and not on my own, so what I really did was read it in bed, late at night and scared myself silly. This is such a sharp, well thought out scary but believable read. It shows how things play on your mind, taking over your life especially if you try to keep everything all to yourself. It also shows how relatively easy it is to make people believe stuff when they feel even a little bit guilty about something they have or haven’t done. Excellent read, highly recommended.

I was thrilled to find the latest Andrea Mara on my NetGalley shelf. Having read her previous works, I was once again gripped from the first paragraph to the last paragraph. Andrea has meticulously plotted out every single plot point, with no questions left unanswered.

I get excited when I hear that Andrea Mara has a new book out. Having read all her previous works, I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed her books. This book lives up to the standard of her previous books. Gripped from the first paragraph to the last paragraph. As usual, Andrea has meticulously plotted out every single plot point, with no questions left unanswered.

The book opens with Anya relaxing in her bath, 30 seconds later Anya is killed by a masked figure in her own home. Julia is a childhood friend of Anya's, she has just moved back to Dublin from America to a luxury exclusive gated housing estate. The newest social media trend of where people film themselves creepily descending from an attic is gaining traction. It all gets too real when they see a video of a masked figure creeping around their own home...

Unsurprisingly this book delivered the usual high standard from Andrea Mara. Contains all the ingredients for the perfect thriller in the right proportions. I've read a lot of her books so I had high hopes for this and they were met. I liked how the book portrays South Dublin in all its flairs and fancies. The social media culture and the attic is a terrifying concept, I had to try read it during daylight hours!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

Oh my goodness, this certainly opens with a bang. As Anya relaxes in the bath with a glass or three of Pinot Grigio, she hears those pesky mice again above her in the attic. Except of course, it’s not mice at all.

Julia, Anya‘s friend of many years, is newly moved back to Ireland from San Diego, and that’s a story in itself. Her teenage daughter Isla urges her to take a look at what’s been posted on TikTok and so she views it. is this a prank or something way more sinister? Why is someone targeting Julia?

This latest from Andrea Mara is super creepy in places as it taps into your worst fears and nightmares. There are one or two occurrences where I literally jump, and the fact that Julie young son Luca is so full of fear, seems to escalate the readers. Julia lives in a wealthy gated community, and this adds to the weirdness as a couple of neighbours raise the suspicion antenna a notch or two. The behaviour of her ex-husband, Gabe is mysterious and this helps build tension further. There are a few good red herrings along the way and multiple plot twists and turns raising the chill factor. The mostly unlikeable characters add an extra dimension to the plot too.

However, much as I do enjoy this, there’s an awful lot going on with several sub storylines including one from the past as well as a San Diego mystery. This detracts from what I really want to know, i.e. that attic! It’s also told as reflections and flashbacks, which in my opinion slows down the pace of the storytelling. I expected an ending with a bit more wallop for what is mostly immersive and very chilling read. It’s all a bit tidy as well in The Epilogue.

Overall, though, I do enjoy this and it’s a very it’s very easy to read.

With thanks to NetGalley, and especially to Penguin Random House UK, Transworld for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.
