Julia, along with her family, has returned home to Dublin after living in California for some years. To her new neighbours the arrangement of Julia’s family appears “different”. Despite being divorced for nine years, Julia and Gabe get on very well. They share the parenting duties and split the week with a ‘switchover’ with one of them either living in the house with the children or living in an apartment close by. This means the children have minimal upheaval and family life remains grounded. Due to Julia’s earned wealth (lots of it!), she supports the family, the properties and Gabe, who is an artist.

The main property they move into is in a prestigious gated development in a very desirable area. When daughter Isla discovers a bizarre video on TikTok, the family think they are victims of a fake account on the site, as The Loft is a very popular tv series that shows a person in black gaining entrance to homes via the loft and videoing the home they have gained access to. As Julie has moved her family from San Diego in secretive circumstances, she feels that someone back there, perhaps the mysterious Riley, is out to get back at them.

As always Mara delivers an amazing read. Very creepy and certainly makes you think! Well developed and well plotted, the story captivates from the start. Although some unlikely events occur, the feelings of surprise, suspense and suspicion kept me wanting more. Poor Luca, why does no one take him seriously 😱

For me the ending was a little flat. In comparison to all the other books by this author, it’s was just lacking that little something that I’ve come to expect. Nevertheless, an exciting and creepy read that I definitely recommend.

Thank you NetGalley and Random House.

I enjoyed this psychological thriller. Well written and gripping. I thought I had worked it out just over half way through but I was wrong. Dropped a star because of the f bombs.

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher Random House for the advance copy to read.

Someone in your attic is a fast paved, chilling mystery that will have you staring at your own attic in fear.

The plot follows Julia and her family upon returning back to Dublin after living in America. There are various sub plots and flashbacks to years gone by.

The book will have you thinking you having it all worked out to realising maybe you don't?

Luca's character really helps to set the creepy atmosphere.

Highly recommend if you love John Marrs and TM Logan.

Jesus this was creepy, honest to god I had the big light on 😂 This author knows how to keep readers guessing. Every chapter left me wanting more, I couldn’t put it down. Dark and twisty, with a plot that will keep you guessing until the end, A true masterpiece of suspense. Thank you!!!

I am a huge fan of Andrea Mara and I was delighted to get the opportunity to read her newest book Someone in the Attic. This was of the most gripping and thrilling books I have read in a long time. I read it over the course of a day as I simply couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to read more from the author in the future.

I absolutely love this author so when I seen this I could not wait to read it. It was such a gripping thriller which had me hooked from start to finish could not put it down. The opening chapter had me gasping as it was so terrifying it was such a creepy read with the tense atmosphere building throughout. Fantastic creepy thriller which I will definitely be recommending just read during the day. Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my advanced copy of this excellent thriller.

Andrea Mara is one of my favourite writers and I was so excited to read this. It is dark and creepy and really well written. As always Andrea writes well developed characters and the book is fast paced and thriller. Another gripping read from this brilliant writer.

Brilliant. 5 ⭐
Anya is enjoying a relaxing bath when she hears a noise in the roof. Through the open bathroom door, she sees the attic hatch swing open, and a masked figure drops to the floor. Thirty seconds later, Anya is dead.
Even in a wealthy neighbourhood like this.
Across town, Anya's old school friend, Julia, sees an online video of a masked figure climbing out of an attic. She suddenly realises why the footage is eerily familiar: it was filmed inside her house in a luxury gated community, designed to keep intruders out. Why would a stranger target Julia? Unless of course, it's not a stranger at all.
Loved it. She's getting better with every book.
Thanks to NetGalley and Transworld Publishers Bantam for giving me an advance copy.

I normally love Andrea Mara however this book just didn't work for me. I found many of the characters to be annoying and didn't really feel the story moved along enough

What a read!!!
The opening chapter terrified and captivated me in equal measure and I was hooked. To the point that I had to go and hide in my room ( in daylight because I was too spooked to read this at night)) and read the rest of this in one go. A delightful Sunday, well spent.

This had all of the trademarks I have come to expect from Mara's books- intricate plotting, brilliantly paced, unputdownable and impossible to predict but there was also a different vibe to her previous books. As well as the aforementioned components, there was a really compelling back story and brilliantly realistic characters. I was so invested in the story of these friends and of their earlier lives and I really loved how all the different strands came together.

Another brilliantly propulsive read from the Queen of Irish crime fiction. Hugely recommend this one , you'll never look comfortably at your attic door again.

5 star.

This was a very creepy, tense read with a full throttle ending. I thought I had it worked out but it was all the red herrings thrown in. My only issues were the additional stories were unnecessary, I didn't like the way the 'Then' chapters were written and I was shouting at the fact they were all worried but no one listened to Luca.

This was definitely a very creepy read, I was glad I read this during the day as I know I would be too nervous to sleep otherwise.

Someone In The Attic, Andrea Mara

A video surfaces of a man, dropping from your attic, prowling round your home. Across town a man drops from another attack, a woman is dead moments later. Who is creeping about in the dark? Can you trust anyone?

I could not put this down. I was genuinely unsettled and absolutely breathless racing through this creeping thriller. A big fan of No-one Saw A Thing I was really pleased that this retains all the same disturbing thrills. Excellent.

Bloody hell why did I read this on my own staring up at the ceiling!! This was a seriously creepy book, not a horror but a psychological thriller which preyed on my nerves!
I loved the dysfunctional families element, we are most of us living in one of these. I also loved the suburban creepiness, they thought they were in a safe place but someone wanted revenge. Also the Irish setting I always love.
The kids, these bloody poor kids, why do the adults put them through it!
I did love the epilogue, wound everything up nicely.

I've always felt this author writes excellent thrillers but she writes the best for the creep factor too! And this one definitely has creep factor! Honestly I was truly delighted to not have an attic hatch in my house while reading this one!

The story moves along at a decent pace but is very character heavy with flashbacks and a secondary sub-plot based on a whole other continent so you do need your wits about you!

Overall, a creepy thriller that I definitely recommend.

I’ve really enjoyed Andrea Mara’s previous books however I found it took me quite a while to engage with this one. It’s a brilliant premise with Julia moving back to Dublin after some family troubles in America, the gated community she’s in should feel safe but with videos being posted online of the inside of her house and her son complaining he can hear someone in the attic things are very unsettled. I don’t know why this didn’t grab me until nearer the end, the characters were ok but maybe a bit bland or maybe I just didn’t engage well with them? The gated community and tragedy from her past added well to the plot and the revelations as to what had happened and why played out really well and it had an excellent conclusion. 7/10

Andrea has done it again and this time, she has turned the dial way up on the creepy factor and it was bone-chillingly brilliant! I got to about 40% and was eyeballing my attic on my way to bed. At one point I was convinced I had it worked out but no: the twists were flawless. The pace was perfect, fast without being rushed and the twisty plot had me hooked - I finished the book within 24 hours. It’s possibly my favourite of Andrea’s so far - definitely more creepy than her last three. A fantastic and addictive read!

Who can you trust when you've been abroad for almost two decades and the house you've only been living in for a few weeks seems haunted? Of course, it is not exactly haunted, but indeed... there seems to be something going on with a man wearing a balaclava and coming from your loft.

Julia has her two children to think of, but no one to rely on apart from her ex-husband who moved back to Ireland with her. But even he seems to be weird and evasive. And then there are the neighbors, an old friend, and her housekeeper but Julia is rather unsure what to make of all these people. Who can she turn to if needs must?

There were several storylines that might or might not have something to do with the mysterious man from the attic. Ultimately, you might never look at your loft the same way as you did before :)

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of the book.

I just can't seem to get into Andrea's books these days. The characters don't excite me; the plot is too drawn out. I did skip to the back to see what happened. I think the book itself it well written, it's just not for me.

I started reading this a 1am when u couldn't sleep last night..... do not do that! Lol I was about wetting myself at every single noise my house made once I'd started reading this. Its just amazing! I'd highly recommend it to anyone. It easily surpassed most other domestic thrillers out there, on every ingle level. The chatacersa re well written and brought to life. There are twists and turns and red herrings but nothing is forced or over the top. Its all just so real and relatable which makes it so so easy to get completely lost in and to really care bout what's going on. The addition of tiktok is also so real and accurate to the current times. I can't speak highly enough of this book! Make sure you leap the lights on if your read it after dark
