Even in paradise things can go badly! The setting is beautiful but the plotting and cunning is not so much.

A great read and makes you think twice about messing with women!

The story starts in an old guesthouse many years ago. The scene is terrifying.

The story jumps into the present where 3 friends Darcey, Camilla & Kate are heading to the stunning Maldives to celebrate Darcey’s long drawn out stressful divorce.

The book is narrated by the 3 ladies and also Jade, a young bride on her honeymoon with her older husband Rob, a dangerous character with a shady past.

The book is deliciously good. I couldn’t put it down. The writing flowed so easily. I don’t want to give any details in case I spoil it but it’s a 4 star read. It’s so good

This was a thrilling and intense read! Three women who connected 20 years after the tragic massacre of loved ones have become really close friends and decide to go on a divorce holiday to the Maldives for some sun and relaxation. At first I liked their characters and friendship dynamics but as the novel went on I began to have questions about the real story and knew I shouldn't trust any of them.

The setting of the Maldive's island and the hotel was absolutely stunning and it is the perfect base for this story. The first chapter dives right into the gruesome backstory in which Kate, as an archeological student, wakes up in a guesthouse to find all the other guests have been murdered while she was asleep. 21 years later and its the anniversary and the story begins from here.

I loved all the plot twists and the shocking reveals and I raced through the book as I couldn't get enough of it. This is a brilliant summer thriller that you are sure to love.

This is a dark, twisty thriller that grabs you from the first chapter and never lets go. Best friends Darcy, Camilla, and Kate escape to the exclusive Sapphire Island Resort in the Maldives for a post-divorce retreat, hoping to relax and start fresh. Darcy is embracing single life at forty-two, Camilla thrives as a fitness influencer, and Kate is finally writing the book she's always dreamed of.

But their dream getaway quickly turns sinister when a body is discovered on the beach, and secrets begin to unravel. With a locked-room mystery vibe and multiple subplots that keep you guessing, this novel is a masterclass in suspense. The plot's relentless pace, coupled with memorable and eccentric middle-aged female protagonists, makes for a compelling read. The story builds to a spine-tingling conclusion that will leave you in awe, unable to piece the puzzle together until the final, fiendishly perfect reveal.

I really enjoyed this book. Darcy, Camilla and Kate are jetting off to the Maldives for a luxury holiday celebrating Darcy's divorce. Each of them is linked to a massacre in a Dover boarding house 20 years ago. Darcy and Camilla both lost loved ones and Kate was the sole survivor. They have joined forces in an attempt to get the case reopened, as they believe a second person was involved. When they arrive at their resort they meet Jade, who is on her honeymoon with her bully boy husband Rob. What follows is a roller coaster of a story with some massive twists that you definitely won't see coming!

I got straight into this book as the beginning was so gripping. A Murder of many guests in a hotel what a way to start a book. It then changed to current day and the plot started to grow. I did really enjoy this book but Parts of it were a bit far fetched and didn’t flow as well as most of the book. On the whole I would still recommend this book as it was an easy but gripping read.

Three very different women Darcy Camilla and Kate have become firm friends , bound together by a horrific incident in their past (but shh I'm not saying any more about that...)

Darcy is getting divorced from AI billionaire Jacob and has spent some of her alimony on the most luxury of all luxury trips, 2 weeks in the Maldives. Each woman has her own luxury villa that goes straight into the ocean, their own butler, unlimited cocktails, endless excursions- absolute bliss.

They quickly settle into their idyllic break, Camilla and Kate trying to keep Darcy in a positive mood about her divorce but also nursing their own worries and anxieties. There's also honeymoon couple Jade and Rob in an adjoining villa- as soon as the women clock that Jade has a black eye, they are in hyper protective mode of Jade, trying to find ways to keep her safe and get her away from Rob.

As time passes, their opinion of Rob only worsens, he is violent, possessive and a horrible husband unless he's trying to show the world what a caring husband he is. As his attacks on Jade heighten, the women decide that they will have to take action.

All the time this is going on, Darcy's ex-husband is at home with their three boys, who are proving to be challenging as well. Why are they acting up in this way?

A gripping page turner, I flew through it in 24 hours and couldnt wait to find out what was going to happen.

This is a fabulous debut novel for this author, but it is not her first time writing, she also goes under C.J. Cooke and writes some wonderful gothic thrillers.

When three friends go on holiday it is to celebrate the divorce of one of them. These three have not known each other for years and years but have come together and formed a friendship via an online group. This group was formed as a support system for family and friends of 6 victims of a brutal murder 21 years ago. There was a trial and a man was found guilty, he died from cancer after a month in prison. The women think there is more to the case and that the police were happy to have a quick conviction.

The women sound great, Darcy, Kate and Camilla have different backgrounds. Darcey is the one getting divorced and lost a boyfriend to the murder, Camilla lost her twin brother to the murder and Kate was a survivor. Having three different backgrounds adds a nice angle to this story.

The divorce party is in the Maldives, a chance to try to relax, unwind, and celebrate the divorce. There is a newlywed couple who become part of the story, as well as another guest and an ex-husband. There is another story that is playing in the background, one that does have a part to play but it is not until much further in that I suddenly realised the significance of it.

This is a story that has a great pace, a lot of intrigue and also subterfuge. The story does have a serious nature to it, the author goes into more detail at the end of the book as she explains how the idea and also what she wanted to achieve in this story is told.

This is a fabulous story and it is full of danger but in such a subtle way. There is manipulation, daring, plenty of drama and also several false leads and deception. I thoroughly enjoyed this one and it is one I would definitely recommend.

Bad Tourists was a really clever suspense filled plot. I was completely submerged in the women’s lives and loved the dark and pacy plot. A perfect summer thriller to inhale by the pool or in the garden on a sunny day.

The ultimate holiday read.

I’ve loved C J Cooke’s gloriously gothic novels. She has a way with characters and layering plots so that they spin multiple themes all into an intense, edge of your seat read. So, I knew we were in for a treat with her new thriller under pen name Caro Carver. This has everything you’d hope for in a jaw dropping thriller and more.

Three friends holiday in the Maldives, celebrating a divorce. Stylish and idyllic, it sounds like the perfect getaway, but the friendship is far from plain sailing and each holds a dark secret.  A sinister mystery unravels with every turn of the page and I was rooted to the spot, glued to my Kindle until I finished. Shocking, full of surprises and laced with feminist rage, Bad Tourists has a full recipe for a gripping read.

This was such an unsatisfying read. Such a shame as I did like Caro Craver’s writing style and was initially really excited to be transported to the Maldives. However, halfway through the book I found myself lose interest in the three main protagonists ( through lack of character development ) and the ending, I felt, was preposterous. Sorry.

Thank you NetGalley and the Publishers, Random House UK, for this ARC.

I thought at the start of the book I would enjoy the tale of three great friends. celebrating one of them getting a divorce. Unfortunately this was not the case. Not only were the three women not great friends at all but the only thing they had in common ended up being so convoluted I failed to connect at all with them or their troubles.
It was proof enough that the characters were undeveloped by the author constantly having to identify the speaker at the end of every bit of dialogue.
So rather a silly plot by the end with very unreliable narrators.

A great edge of the seat thriller. Three friends Darcy, Camilla and Kate go the the Maldives to celebrate Darcy’s divorce. Each of the women have dark secrets and pasts that will finally come to light. This is an absolute read, suspenseful and creepy. What none of them realise is how little they really know each other. The truth is devastating and the results deadly.
This is a must read and makes a great summer thriller

I was asked to review this book by NetGalley and was out for publication July 4th 2024.

This is dark and grips you straight away. This is just perfect for the long summer holidays and eagerly awaited school holidays starting this week.

Three friends (Darcy, Camilla, and Kate) sharing a tragic past all head of to luxury in the Maldives and celebrate Darcy and her divorce.

Everything seems idylic sun, sea and cocktails but this is short lived- a body is discovered in the bay and appears to be foul play, This then upsets the whole resort- is there a murderer lurking- who can be trusted!

This was a great read and recommended this summer.

A brilliant read. Fast-paced, compelling and just mysterious enough to keep you reading late into the night, Bad Tourists is based around three fabulous women, each unique and relatable with complex back stories. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed reading Bad Tourists by author Caro Carver.

A fast paced novel that I devoured within a few days, which for me is very good.

We meet three best friends, Darcy, Camilla, and Kate - they are going as Darcy has just got divorced and she needs a break so they all go to the Maldives.

They have all known each other for many years and have gone through lots of ups and downs, as well as an awful tragedy many years ago.

At a beautiful resort in a stunning location a body is found and the story really kicks up a gear.

Great and well-plotted, fast moving book that would be great for a beach read.

Thanks to the author, Netgalley and the publishers for allowing me an ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I really liked this book, I found it to be a great summer thriller that I could have finished in one sitting. It's exciting, full of surprises, and keeps you on your toes until the end. The author did well, looking forward to her other works!

Oh M G, what a book. While reading this book it reminded me of braiding a plait in someone's hair, you pick up one strand, and another strand, and another strand to make a full picture. Every chapter added another mystery to the story, another strand of hair to the braid. Every perspective made me question any assumptions I made at the start, and I could not put this book down. I cannot wait for the author to release another book.

Bad tourists review
A gripping psychological thriller-when three friends take a once-in-a-lifetime holiday to a luxurious tropical paradise what could possibly go wrong?
The evocative depiction of the dream holiday location contrasts with the rising tension as the story unfolds.
Everything is not as it first seems and the Tragic backstory is of the characters emerge as the holiday progresses and we learn more about and understand the shocking events that happen in the 1st chapter (don’t started this when you are alone in a strange hotel room!!)
The thrilling story builds to a dramatic conclusion with a twist that I never saw coming!
With an ultimately happy ending for the innocent protagonists it’s a satisfying and brilliant read
