This destination thriller describes the experience of five lucky winners chosen to enjoy a week long retreat hosted by wellness influencer.

The action kicks in right away with Ben, Scott, Mira, Naya and Carly discovering upon arrival that their host is nowhere to be seen. Apparently, Hannah is stuck at a nearby village due to bad weather.

Undeterred, the quintet set off on one of the planned activities, a nature walk to a waterfall - and shockingly enough, things start going wrong. But if the trope is a familiar one, the writer does an excellent job of delivering sufficient twists and turns in the course of her story telling to keep readers entertained.

This is one that's worth checking out and it gets 3.5 stars.

Five people win the chance to spend a week at an exclusive hideaway resort hosted by wellness influencer Hannah.
Carly, Mira, Naya, Scott and Ben all have their own reasons for wanting to be selected. They've all suffered trauma and feel that Hannah can help them come to terms with this.
However on arrival Hannah has been stranded at a neighbouring village due to a horrendous storm. Undeterred the 5 partake in the walk she's organised to a picturesque waterfall, this is where the drama starts and the tension starts to rise.
This was a riveting storyline, from the thrilling prologue to the final page, there are underlying secrets that each person has that are drip fed throughout the novel. Its mysterious and tense. I loved it

My Rating: 3.5 stars

The Hideaway is a captivating thriller set in the beautiful Costa Rican rainforest. It follows five lucky winners who are invited to a new well-being retreat hosted by a popular wellness influencer. At first, everyone is excited about this dream getaway, but soon they discover that things aren't quite as wonderful as they seemed.

I found the writing to be smooth and engaging, making it hard to put the book down! The first half of the story really pulled me in, but I have to admit that the second half, which takes place mostly in the thick rainforest, felt a bit slow and repetitive at times.

The characters are fantastic! They’re well-rounded and distinct, which makes it easy to see their different personalities. I loved getting to know them through the various points of view. However, I didn’t really connect with most of them, which was a bit of a letdown for me.

Although I enjoyed a lot of the book, I felt like the ending fell a little flat. It was somewhat predictable and reminded me of endings from other stories I've read before.

All in all, while it didn't completely blow me away, I still think this is a solid debut novel. It’s a great pick for anyone looking for an easy read or who enjoys a good survival thriller with an intriguing setting.

A big thank you to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for sharing a digital review copy with me! All of the thoughts shared in this review are completely my own, and I have shared them voluntarily.

I got to read this ARC from netgalley so thank you to the author and publisher for the chance.

This story is based at a wellness retreat in Costa Rica. First off this book is very very pretty ! The book bounces between characters pov and it very fast passed from the get go. A very tense thriller with a survival story from the get go.

I would definitely recommend this book for thriller lovers and would pick up another book by the author !

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for providing me with an ARC in return for an honest review.

The Hideaway by Nikki Allen delivers a gripping and atmospheric thriller with a great premise that immediately drew me in. The blurb was intriguing, and the opening chapters set the tone for a tense and suspenseful story. Although I found the outcome to be fairly predictable, the writing was strong throughout and effectively maintained a sense of unease.

For me, the first half moved at a solid pace, but the second half felt a little too drawn out, which slightly lessened the impact of the final reveal. That said, this was still an enjoyable read with plenty of tension to keep me turning the pages. I hadn’t read anything by Nikki Allen before, but based on this experience, I’ll definitely be checking out more of her work.

Thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillian for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This was such a strong debut. I flew through it in two days and couldn’t stop thinking about it after. Nikki Allen knows how to create atmosphere, you can feel the heat, the tension, the isolation. I was completely pulled into the setting.

The story is told through multiple POVs, and each character felt distinct and real. Even the ones I didn’t particularly like were still interesting and kept me turning the pages. I really liked how the book tackled the wellness industry and how easily misinformation spreads, especially through influencers and social media. It felt timely without trying too hard.

The writing itself is sharp and vivid. The prologue was especially beautiful, and it set the tone so well. The first half had me totally hooked, fast-paced, mysterious, and tense. The second half dragged a little for me and started to feel a bit repetitive. I also guessed the twist before it was revealed, which took away a bit of the impact, but I still enjoyed seeing how everything played out.

If you’re into survival thrillers with layered characters, a strong setting, and some real-world themes, definitely give this one a go. I’ll be keeping an eye out for whatever Nikki Allen writes next.

I read an eARC of this book on Net Galley so thank you to the author and the publisher.

Here we have a very tense thriller, where five people think they are about to enjoy a wellness retreat in a remote location in Costa Rica but things so wrong very quickly.

This book is so fast-paced! There’s very little set up before it gets right into the action and our characters find themselves in danger. Most of the story takes place while they are on one of their first activities at the wellness retreat. They’d all expected to be spending this time with an influencer who owns the retreat. However she’s delayed and is relaying instructions to them by text message. They are sent on a hike to a waterfall in the rainforest, but things take a dramatic turn when one of their party is injured and they find themselves lost.

From here as they attempt to navigate their environment, we start to learn all their secrets, we find out who has things to hide and we see how they change whilst under the pressure of being lost in the forest.

This book was not what I expected. I was expecting a bit more content around Costa Rica, a bit more around the wellness retreat and a bit more cracking and fracturing relationships within a close space. Instead we actually have a tense survival thriller where the characters are in real danger. I would have liked more set up and more around Costa Rica itself to make the location feel unique. However I appreciated how the very fast paced ramped up the tension and increased the sense of jeopardy the characters were experiencing.

Let me start by saying, that this was really well written. I have rarely read a thriller with a prologue as beautifully written as this one.
I liked the narration from all the different POVs. The characters had distinctive voices and each of them felt tangible.

However, I found the outcome quite predictable.

I was intrigued by the premise and enjoyed the first 50% a lot, thinking I would end up at a 4.5 star rating for this book. Unfortunately, the other half of the book dragged on a bit and felt repetitive to me.

I will say, that Nikki Allen knows how to transport a feeling through writing. The sense of being lost (and trapped at the same) and not knowing who to trust really gripped me.

I definitely recommend this book, if you're into survival thrillers.
I will be picking up more from this author in the future.

Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

People want to be on the island. They are desperate to be picked by an influencer but on arrival, she’s nowhere to be seen.

This is a common trope and there’s nothing whatsoever new here but these destination novels are perfect for the beach, or if you are at home wishing you were on the beach!

I loved this read. It is pulsatingly good.

5 strangers are winners of a competiton and head to a balmy hideaway for rest and relaxation.......

Of course it isn;t as it first seems and soon we realise that they are there for a different reason..

No spoilers from me but this is a great read and a perfect holiday novel.

Destination Thriller..
An influencer competition for a week long stay in a luxury hideaway retreat in Costa Rica brings five winners to the rain forests of Costa Rica with promises that they will leave transformed. On arrival their host is nowhere to be seen - befuddled but not deterred the group settle in but this beginning is to be the least of their worries as time goes on for biting is quite as it seems. Suspenseful and immersive with a propulsive plot and a constant underlying vein of menace - this destination thriller is as compelling as it is a stark commentary of influencer culture - with a cast of well drawn and credible characters and a well imagined, lush setting.

I enjoyed this, I really liked the premise and I thought that overall it was well paced. I enjoyed reading from different characters' POV's, but did find it jumped a little too much at points. Overall I think this was a good thriller, perfect for a summer read.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

It's okay but doesn't stand out felt I've read books like this time and time again nothing special with too many POV needed some different and trimmed down to really make it stand out good try but lacked

I liked the premise, although with all the POV, at the end I got confused. They were too similar sometimes, and the killer was a bit obvious. The end was great, so I'm going to read more books by Nikki Allen.

All these people send a video of themselves hoping that holistic Megan will choose them for her retreat. All of these people have hardships and have found solace with Megan during their dark times. When they show up, Megan is stuck on another island. She sends them all a text about activities to pursue while she is gone. When they are all lost in the rainforest, it's obvious someone is out to get them. But who and why?
