My little ones love music even more than I do, which is alot. We were so excited to find the wonderful book all about Dolly Parton. She is and always has been one of my all time favorite artists. I grew up listening to her and now my little ones are too. Especially my 2 year-old daughter who this book is perfect for. We loved the playful illustrations and the easy to follow. We get to learn more about Dolly’s life and all that she done for music, women and more. Her music and talent have done so much for so many people. And these are just of the few things that make Dolly so wonderful. Sharing this book with my kids was wonderful. A creative way to introduce her to children and what makes her a beloved icon.

So worth sharing with any little music lover in your life. Enjoy the music together!

Did you know country star Dolly Parton has a foundation that focuses on education and literacy?
This picture book is a baby-accessible and colorful introduction to the country icon Dolly Parton. Explore Dolly’s music with your kids and learn about her history with this board book.

I liked the art and, as usual, loved how colorful this picture book is. I always love colorful illustrations. Learning about Dolly Parton is always a good time, and I appreciated a brief overview of the contributions that she has made over the years to the music industry and fields of education and literacy.

The only thing that didn’t really work for me is that the book ended quite suddenly. There could have been a more developed conclusion.

This would be a fun one to read with my kids one day while introducing them to Dolly Parton’s music.

Hmmm… A new franchise in the world of junior biographies starts (for me at least) with Dolly Parton. This tells us about her musical achievements, charity and theme park, but skims on a lot of things – marriage, kids, cup size… In fact this is pretty much only about the record career she has had, and picks out the superlatives from it – and still manages to disappoint by breaking off to give it context, to explain in a different font why she's so much of note. Things can be in the same text and we can still learn from them, you know! Especially when each page's jumbo headline reduces the space of text we do learn from.

This has the full-graphic design of something like "Little People, Big Dreams" and yes, I say that because I think the comparisons are always going to be made. And for me the simplicity, routine behaviour and common sense of that series will always best this one, on this meagre evidence. Neither are brilliant, but this does seem second rate, unfortunately.

Thanks to NetGalley and Cider Mill Press for an advanced reading copy of baby biographies: Dolly Parton. This book was released to retailer on July 8, 2024.

I am an elementary school librarian and I will buy this for my library. It’s perfect for younger readers who can read independently but still need lots of pictures and small paragraphs. The information on Dolly was accurate and enough for learners to get a basic timeline of her life. Students will be able to learn nonfiction text features as well from this book. A great introductory biography!!!

✨ I mean… who wouldn’t want to read about the one and only Dolly Parton? The Queen of Country, the queen of my heart, and honestly? A total icon. This book was beyond adorable—from the dreamy color palette to the illustrations that pop, it totally captures Dolly’s sparkle and spirit.

✨ As a lifelong Dolly fangirl, I loved how this book makes her story super fun and kid-friendly. It’s the perfect intro to all things Dolly—her talent, her heart, her sass. I’m already planning to grab a physical copy for my nieces and nephews, because everyone deserves a little Dolly magic in their life.

✨ If you love Dolly (or just want to raise your tiny humans on strong women and rhinestones), this one’s a must. 10/10 would recommend—with a side of butterfly clips and a big ol’ Southern “y’all.”

Baby Biographies: Dolly Parton by Amanda Sobotka is an illustrated abridged biography of Dolly Parton accessible for children.

I was drawn to this book as I am a fan of both Dolly Parton's music and her as a person, and I was interested to see how the author would explain why Dolly Parton has made such an impact on America in a way that was accessible to children. I've also been looking for books I can read to my niece and nephews that are interesting to all parties.

I liked that the book went through key years in Dolly's life that highlighted both her musical achievements as well as her service in her charitable efforts. I thought the illustrations were pretty and at times humorous.

I think this book would make a great introduction to children interested in learning about the Queen of Country.

We learn quite a few things about where Dolly Parton's journey as a country music legend began, and all her wonderful contributions to world at large. The text is easy and simple to read and understand. Nichola Cowdery's illustrations are gorgeous! I really enjoy this series!

This brand-new children’s book is written about the life of country superstar, Dolly Parton. Dolly was born in 1946 in Pittman Center, Tennessee. She had a passion for singing. When she was ten, she made her debut on The Cas Walker Show. Her first single was entitled puppy love. When she was 13 years old, she performed at the Grand Ole Opry and was asked to do three encores. She appeared on the Porter Wagoner show. She released I Will Always Love You, Jolene, 9 to 5, Here You Come Again, just to touch on a few in the book. She founded Dollywood in 1986 and later the Imagination Library. She was the first country artists ever to record two pop songs that made the top of the charts. She has a total of 107 songs on the US hot country charts by a female artist.

I would recommend this baby biography book to anyone who is a huge fan of Dolly. It was a very quick lesson on Dolly and her life. It touched on her career and her amazing library for children. I liked how it included the years in each of the pages and it was a well written overview of her life’s story. The illustrations are all Dolly based and the book is extremely colorful in true Dolly fashion.

I love that books like these cater to a younger audience while still giving necessary information. Many children look up to people they see on tv or hear on the radio but never have opportunities to read about them, unless an adult supports them by reading for them. This is a great way to allow students to learn about the people they admire!

ARC Review:

This book is the perfect introductory biography for kids! Not only does it share information about Dolly Parton, but it also shows a timeline of his life and legacy. Baby Biographies are perfect for those who do and don’t know about the people that they are reading about.

These books are perfect for kids up to age 6 years old.

Cute book, I love the illustrations, I feel like there is too much text and information given to be a baby book but the pictures will definitely keep their interest. It tells of a lot of the great things Dolly has done in her life. She is an icon and should be celebrated!

Thank you so much to Netgalley, Cider Mill Press and the author for providing with an arc copy in exchange for an honest review!

I love the concept behind Baby biographies, the way the books are structured is the perfect introduction to different public figures for kids of all ages.

This specific installment is about Dolly Parton, country legend and icon. The book starts from the beginning of Dolly's life and it guides the reader through her main achievements in chronological order. Each achievement is explained in a simple and understandable way and it's also paired with a quote or facts (such as award nominations, song titles etc). Even though this is a biography, the focus isn't only on milestones and achievements. There's a huge focus on Dolly's philanthropic work and her kindness.

The illustrations are very cute, also very colorful. They capture the attention and represent Dolly perfectly.

Just like previous instalments in the Baby Biographies series this is a delightfully cute and engaging introduction to the life and career of a true icon. This time the wonderful role model that is Dolly Parton. Dolly Parton is not just a legend of the music industry but also a charitable, warm hearted woman who has touched the lives of many. She is a fantastic role model for children and absolutely is a perfect choice for this kind of book.

The illustrations are once again brilliant. They really bring her career to life and are perfect for holding the readers attention. When trying to impart information on a younger reader it is important to maintain their focus and attention as it can easily wander. These kind of friendly, colourful, and fun illustrations are the perfect way to keep that focus!

An early biography for young readers on the life of Dolly Parton. The book is full of illustrations and simple text. Pages are dated with years to understand the timeline of her life. The book includes information on her impact. Some vocab is above the intended audience's ability levels.
