I absolutely love this authors books so couldn’t wait to read this. This was a tense and engaging suspenseful psychological thriller that hooked me in from the very first page and I couldn’t put it down and read it in practically one sitting.

The main character and storyline were very cleverly put together to draw the reader in and there was also so much more depth to the story than it just being simply a psychological thriller. (I won’t go into details for fear of spoilers)

This would make a good tv adaptation.

Troublemaker by Lesley Kara is a tense, character-driven thriller where the lead character Storm struggles to be believed when the truth sounds impossible.

Storm is no longer the same person she once was, she is no longer the brave, confident person. Ever since her younger brother was killed in a brutal mugging, she has lived a life defined by fear and vigilance, her every step shadowed by grief and paranoia. Her frequent false alarms have made her the girl who cries wolf, so when she witnesses a chilling murder eerily similar to her brother’s, the police dismiss her story. With no body or missing persons there is no crime.

Storm is convinced she is not imaging it and begins to connect the pieces and it becomes clear that the killing is only the beginning. The murderer will stop at nothing to silence her. With no one willing to listen, Storm is forced to rely on her own instincts and determination to uncover the truth, even if it means putting herself in grave danger.

This is a very good psychological thriller, full of suspense and with an interesting lead character Storm. Storm is a vulnerable person and yet determined, but is she imagining things or is there really a crime.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Random House UK for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Ever since Storm's younger brother was murdered, she has seen danger round every corner. She gains a reputation for crying wolf, so when she witnesses a murder, no one believes her. No one except her neighbour Lena, a retired detective. Together the two women hunt for the killer.
This is a twisty mystery/thriller, with cosy overtones in the style of writing. Fans of Lesley Kara's books will really enjoy this one.
With thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an early copy in exchange for an independent review.
Upon publication, I will post my review on my blog.

Troublemaker opens in quite distressing fashion with an attack on Arlo, a young man with learning disabilities. Two years later his sister Storm (well-named, as her life is far from calm), a college lecturer, is both grieving his death and that of her mother, and experiencing some frightening incidents. Is she really being targeted? When she returns to the park where Arlo was killed, she witnesses something alarming, but nobody - least of all the police - believes her. On top of that, she's split up with her boyfriend, her father is away and uncontactable, and she's facing a complaint at work.

Luckily her new neighbour, Lena, is an ex-police officer and together the two women set out to investigate what's really going on.

This was an enjoyable read - I liked the characters. Lena had the feel of a returning character, though I'm not sure if she has featured in previous books. The ending certainly sets up a possible return for both Lena and Storm.

The villain's motive, when revealed, is a little underwhelming and their behaviour a bit unlikely. But overall, a good read.

We meet Storm, 2 years after her brothers murder. Storm’s character is painted so well and with so much care you will be able to picture her perfectly.
Since his death, Storm has seen some very strange things happen but none worse than when she returns for the first time to the park her brother was murdered in - and witnesses a murder.

With help from her former police officer neighbour, she tries to find out what is happening.

The real beauty in this book is the fact that Storm is not a ‘troublemaker’ but we see through the police’s eyes how easily she could be seen as that.

A surprising novel, some very sad parts and some absolute joy from the friendships. This is not just a thriller or a mystery it’s a deep study in the easy assumptions and the stereotyping that is of no use to anyone and often ruins lives.

Thank you to the Publishers and Netgalley for this eARC in exchange for an honest review.
