Thank you NetGalley for the free ARC! I enjoyed this book. I love novels featuring psychiatrists/patients, and being able to delve into their sessions. Although, I did feel like the psychiatrist needed a psychiatrist. I would recommend for an engaging read.

A pacy novel exploring difficult themes including mental health, child loss and abuse, Without Good Reason is packed full of flawed, complex and sometimes wicked characters.

It explores the multi-faceted issues affecting two families and I enjoyed the multiple view points giving us insight into the different players in the story, though I would have liked to hear from lyndsey too.

The ending felt a little rushed - such as the scene with Irene - and the reveal about the night of the attack seemed a little implausible, but overall I really enjoyed this book and would read more by the author.

I really enjoyed getting to read this, it had that concept that I was looking for and thought the idea of psychological suspense in this read worked overall in what was happening. I enjoyed the overall feel of this and how everything was used. The characters were realistic and I was invested in what was going on with the characters. Colette Lewis has a strong writing style and glad I read this.

Corinne Alexander is retired, and struggling with the aftermath of tragedy in her own life, when she is offered the distraction - and the potentially rewarding task - of helping to rehabilitate a former child offender.

But the crime of matricide is not only as rare as it is disturbing in the case of a female murderer, it is also almost impossible to rehabilitate someone who will not tell you the truth of the events that took place. And, as it turns out, this case has very particular ramifications for
Corinne's own wellbeing...

An intelligent, suspenseful, and deeply unsetling piece of story telling, this is a story that will leave its mark on the reader. It gets 3.5 stars.
