This is the review I posted on goodreads: I received an advance copy of this from netgalley in exchange for an honest review. As a phantom of the opera lover, this was a cute and whimsical modern rendition. I had to keep the pictures of the cast close by to keep everyone straight but I was LOL at the dialogue. The anonymous emails were entertaining as well. Future readers, prepare to brush up on your texting jargon and emojis. It makes the reading that much more entertaining. I’d definitely recommend for any POTO (see what I did there? Lol) fan. |

A brilliant humorous retelling of the phantom of the opera. I couldn't stop laughing. The book is visually presented as a series of text messages, like a typical chat from your mobile. The dialogue between the characters is informal with all the typical puns and slang of modern texting. If you enjoy autocorrect jokes and all those kind of texting jokes available all over the internet, you just definitely check this book out. For fully enjoyment of the comedic value of the book I would recommend to get to know the story of the phantom of the opera first (there is something hilarious about seeing those serious characters LOLing and adding poop emojis), but not a must because, in case you where wondering, this is indeed the story of the phantom of the opera and if you didn't know it before, well, this is a good chance to give it a try. |

I am not nearly as text/emoji literate as I thought I was, so it took me a little bit in some spots, but this was hysterical...and terrifying at the same time. I have read the original book, and seen the show several times, and felt like I was reading a very modernized version of Cliff Notes. (That's where the terrifying portion comes in.) I'd consider gifting it to a friend who's preteen is about to see the show for the first time as a way to "prep them" for it, but otherwise...not sure who I'd really gift it to. Definitely amused by it overall, though. |

Emoji Phantom of the Opera: Epic Tales in Tiny Texts is a hilarious retelling of the original story done in texts and emojis. In this strange portrayal, each character is assigned their own emoji and they tell the story through texts. The language used is actually how it would sound if people were texting this story today. It is like they started one big group text and told the story. Okay so, this title was hilarious in itself and I couldn’t pass it up. How do you tell a classic story through emojis? I was beyond curious and I was not missing my chance to find out and I’m glad I requested this book on NetGalley. This retelling of The Phantom of the Opera through texts and emojis is done brilliantly. It is literally one huge group text using modern language and emojis, telling the story. I don’t think it is making a mockery of the original classic at all and that this would make a great addition to read, after you read the original of course. Thank you NetGalley, Race Point Publishing, and Quarto Publishing Group for a copy of this hilarious retelling of a classic in return for a honest review. |

If you have read "The Phantom of the Opera", not seen the Broadway musical, then this book will make sense. It will also make you laugh, snort and nod your head vigorously as you read it. I LOVE the book, "The Phantom of the Opera". I also love the Broadway musical, but it was Disney-fied and doesn't follow the book's darker tone at all in comparison. This "re-telling" follows the book and it is HYSTERICAL. It is pretty accurate from what I remember of the book. It's been a while since I read the original. Added to the TBR, a re-read. Though this book was pretty complete, so I don't think I am missing all that much from the original. Aside from the scenes with my book BF, Raoul's older brother. What happens to him is so sad and tragic! Sniff! Anywho, if you have read and enjoyed "The Phantom of the Opera" and have a sense of humor, then this book is definitely for you. Not sure how much a reader who isn't familiar with the original book would enjoy it. It might not make much sense, so I recommend the original, then this one. 5, made me laugh, snort and say out loud, "That is SO TRUE", stars. My thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group – Race Point Publishing for an eARC copy of this book to read and review. |

Emojis - or as we called it in 1994, that smiley face thingy that looked like this : - ) You can have so much fun with emojis --- I don’t think that I use them enough but this book is hilarious and inspires me to do so much more via emoji … I would love to see “Les Miserables”, for example, or Dicken's hilariously wicked “A Christmas Carol” done this way --- once my rib heals. |

Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera is my absolute favourite of the classics and I was more than a little worried about how I would feel about this 'messed about' version, told in texts and emojis. I need not have worried as it is fantastic. This book has taken what is a very dark and twisted story in its original form and made something hilariously funny, immensely entertaining and bang up to date. Genius. |

I knew I wasn't the target audience for this book - and I was right. Still I was curious. What can I say? Kudos to the author and illustrator for sticking with the concept. It must have been a pain to juggle all those emojis and trying to arrange them into something resembling a plot. I'm not going to complain about not liking this book. Much like "The emoji movie" this book is upfront about what it is. So enter at your own risk if you want to see another interpretation of a classic. I would rather re-read "OMG Don Quixote and Candide". |
