Acts (Everyday Bible Commentary series)

I've been wanting to study the books of Acts for a while now and when I saw the opportunity to read commentary series for review, I grabbed it.
Charles C. Ryrie writes in a very educational and organized way. He takes us bake to the original Greek word at some parts and knows how to contextualize the passage culturally and historically. I felt ministered and blessed as I read this book and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

This book is pretty short and straightforward, therefore it is for anyone and everyone.

The only problem I noticed was that the author was making some unsubstantiated assertions from his Dispensational perspective that were either not supported by the text or were contradicted directly by the text he was attempting to expound. i.e. In stephen's sermon, he claims that ekklesia should be translated assembly and not church, as if assembly and church didnt mean exactly the same thing. This shows a misunderstanding of the nature of ekklesia in the OT and the fact that the mystery of the ekklesia of God in the NT is that there is a massive conversion of gentiles into it before there will be a massive conversion of Jews into the same body.

So long as you keep in mind that the author is interpreting the text from a dispensational perspective and that he doesnt support his dispensational statements in any way but just asserts them as if he was a sufficient authority to declare proper interpretation, you'll find this book valuable.

I chuckled to think about how to write my review and then it dawned on me, I am the eunich who is in the chariot reading the Bible and not fully understanding what it says and then along comes Philip to shine light onto the text. Well, as I am studying Acts for my personal study, along comes Charles Ryrie to shine light onto the text so that I can drink it deeper and satisfy the longing in my soul...that is what this book did for me. This series is so well done. I am very thankful for this commentary set as it will be a great resource for me as I teach others about God's Word.

Acts Is about just that - Is just that- Acts. I love finding out all I can about The Bible. It tells you about the fundamental 1st like who wrote the book - so, who wrote the book? It was - nah I don't want to ruin it for you - if you don't know who it is then when was it was written or where it was? You are missing out on a bunch of great information that's very interesting. Then it goes into detail of the Scriptures. I will say that this would be geared more towards someone who has some familiarity with the Scriptures but that's just my opinion.

This is an excellent study aid for the layperson as well as for small groups and Bible Study groups. The author does an excellent job presenting text in narrative form and providing necessary background information to the reader.
