This is a second edition and up to date in 2018. A well set out text in two parts: 'Fundamentals' and 'In Practice'. It covers what employment law is and its importance in part one, and how it works, how you do it, planning and action, measurement and conclusions and government changes to employment. law in part two. A very useful guide. Thank you to NetGalley and Kogan Page for an ARC.

Being a law graduate, I sometimes like to go back and read about different areas of the law that I first experienced during my degree, so when I saw this book I decided to grab a copy in order to refresh my memory. The first addition released in 2014 received rave reviews, and as this book looks at the fundamentals of employment law, I feel it would be accessible and understandable to a lay person or someone not familiar with the legal system at all. This second edition released in September 2018 is fully up-to-date, and it's important to recognise how important this is the context of a complex system that changes frequently.

As always when learning the law there are two distinct parts to it. This first being learning and understanding the actual law, and the second is looking at how it applies in the real world context. This book deals with both of those in two separate sections within the text. There are also easy-to-navigate tables of key legislation, as well as the all-important case studies, which illustrate the points. I definitely feel as though this book is very much targeted at those who work, as well as those businesses that employ people themselves. This is a great succinct, user-friendly and jargon-free guide which is fully endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

Many thanks to Kogan Page for an ARC. I was not required to post a review, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I read this to compare and contrast UK employment law with US employment law. There are many similarities. An interesting read!

As someone who works within HR and specifically recruitment I jumped at the chance to read through this book. I was delighted to see it was up to date and concise. It provided case studies to support the topics discussed as well as facts and figures. A really great reference book as well as supporting guidance for those new to employment. This should be a must have for any professional involved in employment
