I Love My Dog Embroidery is a tutorial gallery and guide for canine inspired surface embroidery from MakikoArt / Oksana Kokovkina. Published 11th Dec 2018 on Quarto's Creative Publishing Int'l imprint, it's 120 pages and available in paperback format.

This is a really fun book. The vast majority of the included designs are surface embroidery, but there are a very few charted counted (cross stitch) projects as well. The book includes a color photo gallery of all the designs numbered sequentially. This first section is followed by a photo inspiration gallery showing finishing suggestions for some of the included designs. There are the usual framed, hooped, and napkin type finishes but the gallery also includes some really cute unusual ideas such as clothing embellishment, greeting cards and jewelry. There's a tools and instructional chapter with stitch diagrams and tutorials and after that, a detailed stitch diagram guide for each of the included designs with suggested colorways and stitch details.

The book does include full size templates for use.

Really cute designs and I really like seeing surface embroidery getting some attention.
Nearly all the dog breeds I could think of were included in this collection; there's something for everyone.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Thank you for granting my wish for this book, I can't wait to get started! I like that instructions are clear and easy to follow, would be good for beginners.

I couldn't resist this collection of dog themed embroidery designs. I felt some were more successful than others, but with hundreds of designs here from popular dog breeds to cartoonish designs to outlines and funny designs, there is something to suit any dog loving maker!

Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group - Creative Publishing International and NetGalley for the opportunity to review this fun book in exchange for my honest review.

This book has pages and pages of various embroidery designs ranging from 96 different breeds of dog, fun dogs, outlines, sporty dogs, seasonal dogs, astrological dogs and many many more templates to try yourself. There is a section of project inspirations to give you ideas on how to use these designs, a detailed list of materials and tools needed and clear step by step instructions of stitches and techniques used.

The finished pictures and examples look great but the instructions on how to do them do look a little bit more complicated! Whilst the instructions on how to do the stitches are clear at the front of the book, when you come to the templates for the designs further on in the book I couldn’t remember how the stitches were done, so had to keep flicking backwards and forwards through the book. Obviously, I’m a complete novice! If I practiced more and got better, I’m sure I would be able to do them without looking at the instructions!

The actual designs are lovely and whilst it is a super cute book for any dog lover I think if you are a beginner at embroidery this book may be difficult to follow and is probably more aimed at intermediate to advanced level. But the designs are beautiful and the project inspirations gives you lots more ideas as to what these designs could be incorporated into! Would definitely recommend if you are a dog loving embroiderist!

Some of the best dog embroidery forms out there. I love the designs in this book. I also found the section on knots interesting. I am a machine embroiderer and would love to be able to use these for that purpose. My Grandmother was a hand embroiderer and taught me the basic essentials so it was nice to read this book and revisit those skills.

I Love My Dog Embroidery 380 Stitch Motifs for Dog Moms and Dads by MakikoArt had me at Embroidery and Dogs. What a delightful book. With embroidery being all the rage now this book is right on target. There are dogs of every type, size and breed. If you love embroidery and love your fur babies this book is for you. While you can obviously make the embroideries given in the book what I really love is that the authors tell you how to customize the embroidery to fit your favorite pooch. This is a really fun book.

In this book we see how much we can create realistic looking embroidered art of our pet dogs and also how many realistic and fantasy inspired designs we also can recreate are included in the designs in the book.

Colourful, cute and easy to follow stitch and kit needed guides mean even beginners can follow this book easily as it's a short, concise guide for anyone to try and recreate the art from inside.

It is a perfect book for a stitch fanatic dog lover or someone wanting to try a new hobby as the designs range from basic to more difficult ones and can easily be adapted for use.

Many thanks to the publishers for allowing me to review this book for them!

This a delightful book that is filled with adorable dogs. In fact, it is quite a collection of dog motifs at 380! There is definitely something for everyone who loves dogs. There are regular dog profiles and dog faces but there is also so much more, including dogs getting into stuff, doggy heaven, seasonal ones, and various poses to name a few. Some of my favorites were: the dog in a bathtub, in a raincoat, scuba diving, on a bike, and digging in a garbage can.

The author is very thorough with regards to required materials, steps to take, and ideas/inspirations. Not only does the book explain how to transfer one of the many designs, but it specifies the colors and the stitches to use as well as the recommended number of stands of floss. In fact, there is a section which shows how to do each of the 15 stitches used in all the designs. I am going to pull out some jeans and sew a few of my favorites on them. I would love to take my jean jacket and sew a whole bunch of them on it — that would be so cute!

Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is an absolutely adorable embroidery book! It comes with a whopping 386 patterns, all revolving around man's best friend. Is there a better subject for art? Possibly cats, but dogs are amazing too.

Each of the design is shown completed and in an outline drawing as a pattern. Most are embroidered, but some are cross-stitched. Some are hyper-realistic pieces where you're stitching single strands of fur, others are cartoony. There's even a whimsical re-imagining of the constellations as 'astrodgical signs',

The rest of the book contains:

-An obligatory, and very short, section of 'project inspirations'. Usually these show the pieces awkwardly attached onto items no regular person wants or needs, but this one isn't too bad, because honestly, who doesn't want to put dogs on everything they own?

-A brief instructional section with the usual tools and materials, and instructions for the stitches you need, and an explanation of the pattern notations. It's not really detailed enough for beginners, and experts won't really the information it so it felt a bit extraneous.

The only flaw with this book is that for once it doesn't actually have enough instructions. The more realistic pet portraits (which are really popular right now) are quite challenging to embroider, and there are no tips at all on layering the stitches, where to start stitching, and the primary stitch (long and short stitch) is explained a little inadequately. I think it would take a lot of trial and error to recreate those particular designs, which is frustrating.

Still, this book is definitely worth buying if you love embroidery and dogs! The designs are very cute and even if some do have a steep learning curve, it's totally worth it to make these good boys.

I have decided that for 2019 I am going to find more hobbies and crafts to try and embroidery is at the top of that list. I have a sweet dog who is my best buddy so I thought this would be a fun book to check out. There are so many cute different patterns in here to give a try. As a novice, I am not sure that it is all explained to me well enough, but I am still going to give it a try for the sheer number of patterns available. Pretty much every dog breed imaginable is included and there are several different sub-categories of different types of dogs (Dog yoga poses anyone? Or dogs with occupations! They are all so cute!). I would recommend this book to absolutely any dog lover that has an interest in embroidery.

An absolutely charming book that allows you to integrate your love for man's best friend in your craft projects!

Even though this book contains step-by-step instructions and some beginner stitch technique information, I definitely felt like it was for a more advanced embroiderer. Different styles are used throughout the projects to give you a real variety to choose from (some much more simplistic than others). It's a great book if your desire is to embroider many dog related things, as it does contain an extensive list of breeds.

I Love My Dog Embroidery provides many cute dog embroidery ideas and designs. It even includes full size templates perfect for your projects, which will be helpful. Some of the designs are surface embroidery with others that are charted counted or cross-stitch. The guides and tool information are good. Looking through all the cute ideas are fun. It is interesting to think of all the projects to decorate with one or more of these designs.

A very comprehensive collection of dog embroidery patterns. There are 48 breeds shown in profile and full face that are nicely detailed, followed by dozens of more cutesy patterns ranging from simple outline patterns to more complicated ones. I love the section called Look-Alikes: Pups and Their Peeps, which gives mix and match patterns for borders, dogs, and humans, to help you make customized mini portraits. There are project ideas, plus a good, basic walk-through of techniques and stitches. A very fun book for any dog loving stitcher!

This is a must have for dog loving stitchers. Several designs feature popular breeds in excellent accuracy, while others focus on more cartoon like and adorable pictures. Some of the more complex designs may be out of the reach of beginners, but come with detailed instructions on how to start them, so I feel like I can work my way up to them if I tried. If you love dogs, or have a dog lover you are making something for, check this out and see what inspires you.

I was looking for an embroidery pattern for a Shetland Sheepdog and found an adorable one here. The author had some creative and do-able ideas for embroidering dogs. The cute factor was very high. I want to try to embroider a Sheltie onto something, and now I'm brainstorming what I could create. I truly enjoyed this, and my elementary age son had lots of "awws" as he looked at the book over my shoulder.

Great patterns for the embroidery fan. Color illustrations make copying and stitching easier to follow. Smaller quickly switchable patterns. I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Unglaublich, was man mit Nadel und Faden zaubern kann!

This book is a very fun collection of dog embroidery designs that is absolutely perfect for the dog enthusiast/embroiderer - you know who you are! The designs range from exquisitely realistic renditions of many dog breeds, to cartoony, quirky, and irreverent. Also included are basic embroidery techniques and ideas for how to deploy these lovely designs on larger projects. A handful of indie designers made the bulk of the book, and the focus is very much on the wide variety of designs - nearly 400! This is a really fun collection, and one that many will want to own rather than borrow from the library.

Great designs ideal for a mix of abilities. I now have a little dog embroidered on the corner of my dogs towel. He loves it too!
Hope that Oksana Kokovkina had some more animal embroidery designs in mind.
