About the book:

The Sleeping Syndrome has returned after a six-month hiatus. This time, it’s popped up in New York, and it’s wiped out an entire homeless shelter. The same night of the outbreak — thousands of miles away — Harper, a seventeen-year-old girl, finds herself face-to-face with a glowing figure in the desert outskirts of her neighborhood.

As the world goes on high-alert from the Syndrome, Harper is kidnapped and taken to the Base of Ki, a massive dome with a sheening white city and fantastic technology … built by beings from another solar system.

There, she must form cross-species alliances to save her friends, family, and the human race before she loses all chance of returning to Earth.

4 out of 5 stars.

What first drew me to this book, what really caught my interest, was the original concept of a story, and the fact it is/was a YA dystopian style book without the usual saccharine, teen angst romance you seem to find in a lot of YA books lately. Kudos to the author on this interesting and different slant on the aftermath of "what if the Earth...". Without giving away too much, I will say it was a delight to have a female main character who wasn't all wishy-washy however still wasn't grown up enough to know all the answers. She is living in Reno, NV when the event happens, and it's not long before things change, and quick. She soon discovers many things about herself and her family, which turns her completely on her head. Everything she thought she knew is gone. The author does a wonderful job on creating and describing this "alternate world", and it is quite believable.

For those who enjoy the YA dystopian genre that has little-to-no romance, with a character-driven plot, then you might enjoy this!

In closing, I would like to thank the author, publisher and NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this delightfully creative book in exchange for an honest review.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect when I started this book. The premise was intriguing, and the cover really caught my eye. As I read, I thought that it would be more of a medical suspense/thriller book – that’s how it started. But not even a quarter of the way through, it took a different turn, and I was totally hooked. The concepts explored by the author were fascinating, and the underlying feeling that there was more than meets the eye added to the intensity of the plot. It was a very good book, and I look forward to seeing what Harper and her friends deal with in the next book. Thank you to Ruby & Topaz Publishing (via NetGalley) for a complimentary pre-release copy of this book.

Imagine you find out you’re not exactly human or maybe partially human how would you feel? Our protagonist always knew there was something different about herself but she just didn’t know what it was. Then she finds out that she’s not exactly totally human. Once she finds this out everything about her changes and she doesn’t exactly like it.

Glow is a very interesting book. I loved the concept. The author does a very good job of painting a picture so you know exactly what is going on. The character interaction is endearing and the protagonist is very believable. The book is a little slow to get started but keep reading you’ll want to get to the end.

Glow: Book I, Potency (Kindle Edition)
by Aubrey Hadley
What an interesting twist on Alien invasion. Aliens are with us, but they have factions one wanting to connect and save the human race the other to destroy the human race. The destructive aliens have found the human race lacking. The exploitation of the planet, the pollution and destruction of the environment has signed the death warrant for the human race. They have a plan, but they did not expect that those who wanted to save humanity, have been attempting to hybridize humans to save them. The story follows one of the hybrid children and what happens to her after a virus kills most of her neighborhood. Great characters, and plot twists to keep conspiracy theory enthusiast enthralled.

I can honestly say that this book was nothing like what I was expecting. I wasn't expecting a full-on alien novel... I don't know why - maybe I didn't read the synopsis correctly. I don't tend to like alien novels. Don't get me wrong, I love fantasy novels, but aliens creep me out a little. Anyway, I actually enjoyed this book. It was longer than I was expecting, but I think all the information is needed to set the scene for the next book. I look forward to seeing what happens next

A science fiction novel where a sleeping sickness claims American lives. We follow Harper who is a teenager that is home schooled and has to be quarantined. This was definitely a long read and it took me a while to get into it but I'm glad I followed through to the end because I always need to find out what happens!

I never wanted to put this book down. I enjoyed the different settings, the Ancients world sounds fascinating. I can't wait to read the next book. The story was enthralling while covering a lot of different topics. Thought it was fairly well done.

I really enjoyed Potency. It was not at all what I expected based off the synopsis of the novel, but I decided to stick with it and see where it led. Harper initially appears as your typical teenaged girl - an athlete, a bit of an attitude, rebellious against mom's rules... we soon learn there is so much more to Harper than even she knows. I enjoyed reading about Harper adjusting to the news of being a hybrid and what the ancients were. The sad reality of the levelings that the newly changed hybrids went through is so realistic to the horrors that mankind inflicts upon each other and other beings. I was truly upset reading the part about Harper seeking the bears being used for their bile. I am a huge animal advocate and also vegan, so even reading it, knowing it wasn't real (but does actually happen) was upsetting to me, but it definitely hit the idea home about why the ancients believed they were in the right. I liked finding out Harpers backstory with her mom, sister Olivia and "brother" Brett. There are still a lot of unanswered questions so I will be curious of since this is titled Glow #1 if there will be a sequel or a series! This book has a post apocalyptic/ sci fi/futuristic vibe to it, so if you enjoy those genres, I recommend this book.

This book reminded me of the Hunger Games in all the good ways! It's fast paced, exciting, and I found myself rooting for the characters like I was actually in the story with them. Great story that takes a different approach to the post apocalyptic genre.
