A brilliant crime thriller which is the fifth in the Miles and Grey series, I haven’t read any of the other books in this series but I didn’t feel like I needed them to appreciate the story. The characters are very likeable with a checkered past and have a interesting relationship. I was hooked and for a change couldn’t figure out who was behind it all until end. It is based at Exeter university and starts with the murder of one of the professors in his office. It is the first in a spate of horrific murders, who would target a seemingly innocent man? I will definitely be picking up The teacher and catching up from the beginning 👌

Sometimes the past comes back to kill you...

Truth or Die is the fifth offering from Katerina Diamond, and the latest in her DS Miles and Grey series. Initially, I was surprised to learn this was a continuation of her previous works as the title doesn’t follow the singular noun style of the others (The Teacher, The Secret, The Angel and The Promise), so this was very much a literal case of don’t judge a book by its cover!

Miles and Grey are called in to investigate the death of an innocuous professor at Exeter University and soon find themselves racing against time to stop the play of a deadly game. As per usual, Diamond feeds the reader just enough information that they can begin to think along the lines of the detectives before throwing in a great twist to knock us off course. It was also great to see the recurrence of some earlier characters to throw a spanner in the works.

Whilst a gory thrill of a read for fans of murder and intrigue, I was also delighted to see the development of regular characters and their relationships with one another, not only Miles and Grey as they move from professional partners to something more, and I have a feeling this series of novels could be in for the long run!

I was given an ARC copy of this novel by Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have to say I just love this detective series by Katerina Diamond and this is another great instalment….. the fifth book in the series and the prologue begins with a student climbing a cathedral whilst videoing himself, as a dare? He loses his foothold and falls to the concrete below, how does this fit into the story I hear you say…. Patience!!!

A professor is found murdered in the most horrific way in his private rooms at Exeter University, DS Grey and DS Miles are called to the scene, as the investigation ensues and more bodies turn up, Grey & Miles feel some past decisions may come back to haunt them and end their careers…. As and aside Miles is also accused of rape and torture of a young girl who he had interviewed about the Professor’s demise…. Just what is going on at this university, the more clues uncovered, the more questions needing answering, can Grey & Miles figure it out…. Can Miles prove his innocence of the charge against him? So much going on, how does it all tie in together, that’s the brilliance of these books, you will know only when Ms Diamond wants you to know!

Ooooooh and finally Grey & Miles finally knocking down that invisible boundary wall, how will this effect their relationship work wise, I love the way their relationship has now gone to the next level, I was hoping for this after reading “The Promise”, delighted with this development!

This book is not for the faint hearted, graphic, gripping and full of gore so don’t say you haven’t been warned but if you can stomach it, you will reap the rewards, I would have no hesitation recommending this book to anyone!

Many thanks to Netgalley and Avon Books UK for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is the fifth book in the Detective Adrian Miles & Imogen Grey police procedural series. A professor is brutally murdered in his rooms at a local university. A student falls to his death free climbing a building in the town. Are the deaths linked? As Detectives Miles and Grey further investigate, the waters get murkier and a larger, far more sinister case unfolds around them. Alongside this, Miles is accused of rape by a young student at the university and there is also more than a fleeting chance that past decisions of Adrian's are going to come back to haunt him...

As I said, this is the fifth book in the series, however, you don't have to have read the previous books to enjoy this thriller (although it would undoubtedly help, enough background information is given to carry you through). This is a fast paced, dark and gritty thriller. It is a gripping and intense story and I found it pretty unputdownable (I read it in a day and a half). The chemistry between Adrian and Imogen is tangible and I absolutely loved watching their relationship progress.

All in all, I thought it was a brilliant read and can't wait for the next installment. Highly recommend 5/5*

This is the first book I have read by this author not realising it is the fifth book in a series.
Having said that I thoroughly enjoyed what I found to be a fast paced, dark and gritty thriller/ police procedural, which kept me guessing up to the end.
DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles are called in when the a university professor is found brutally murdered in his rooms, a student he sponsored had recently committed what initially was deemed suicide.
As their enquiries progress this seems to be wrong and Grey and Miles find themselves looking at the possibility the two were murdered by one killer. the question is why and what is the link?
As they endeavour to solve their case the body count rises, leads seem to be going nowhere fast.
As if things couldn`t get worse Miles finds himself accused of rape just as he and Grey find their own relationship developing into something more than professional.
The story swept me along with it,an exciting and absorbing read.
I shall definitely be playing catch up and reading this series from the start .
Thank you to Netgalley and Avon books for giving me the opportunity to read this as an ARC

Another amazing book. I love how the lives of Adrian and Imogen continue in this story. They are characters you begin to believe are real.

The story keeps you gripped from beginning to end. There is a cliffhanger so please please write the next instalment soon.

Katerina Diamond brings something different I think to the thriller/police procedural. She never weighs the story down in technicalities but the reader always feels part of the investigation. Diamond is on top form again with Truth or Die. A professor is brutally murdered in his rooms and before they have a chance to fully investigate DS Miles is accused of assault. Are the cases connected? Is Miles in real trouble this time and is his past coming back to haunt him? I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Thank you Netgalley for my advance copy.

Well written, dark, gripping and fast-paced! Katerina Diamond never disappoints!

I love Imogen and Adrian, their chemistry and their ups and downs. I love the gruesomeness of the plot and its twists and turns. I love the fact I wasn’t able to guess the identity of the culprit till the end.

A university professor is brutally murdered in his own office. A student he had been sponsoring has committed suicide months before. Is there a connection between the two deaths? Why was the professor killed and why in such a hideous manner?
The police begin their diggings and questionings and when another professor is murdered at the same university, they realize the murders could have been committed by a serial killer and if they could find a connection between the victims, they would be able to unearth the motive and eventually identify the culprit.

Thanks to the author, Avon Books UK and the NetGalley for providing me with a copy.

Firstly I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book, and what a book it was. I loved it from start to finish, I have read the other books by this author and this one was one of the best yet. I would note though that it is best to read all of the books in order as the story continues throughout the books. I definitely recommend.

Katerina Diamond is one of my favourite authors so when I saw this available for request on Netgalley I could not contain my excitement. This is the fifth book in the Detective Grey and Miles series. It could be read as a standalone book but it makes a lot of references to previous storylines so I would recommend reading the previous books first.

Diamond has gone back to the original roots of this series and there are a series of gruesome and shocking events taking place as the story unfolds. This time it is set in a few universities and Miles and Grey must get to the bottom of who is the perpetrator of a series of deaths involving university tutors and students. As they delve deeper into the cases they realise there is a familiarity to the deaths that they are investigating. Can they rectify their past mistakes and get to the bottom of this investigation before it really is too late and their lives change forever?

Added to all this mystery and terror Miles and Grey find themselves in a personal crisis. Their once professional relationship is now blurred and they are now facing the reality of what crossing their own boundaries will mean for them and working relationship.

Overall this was a fantastic read. I really hope there is more to come because I cannot get enough of these books whenever they are released.

Could this possibly be my favourite DS Grey and DS Miles book in this series (5th)? If you've been keeping up to date with the series then you'll know that something has been building and it comes together in this book. This book has made me realise that different detective series have different background storylines for the main characters. This has one I very much like. Others have a comedic thread between characters (Stuart Macbride's Logan Macrae series) and some are more serious (Peter James' DI Roy Grace series) of course all with murder and serial killers to the fore.

I'm really wanting to say something about one of the killers but I know that would give away a surprise so I won't. That in itself should hopefully give you the need to want to read this one.

This story has university life to the fore where people are murdered but why? All becomes clear as the story moves on. Can DS Miles and DS Grey catch the killer before he strikes again?

Definitely some surprises in this book which holds your attention but the fact that its written by the brilliant Katerina Diamond should do that already. Can't wait for book 6

A massive thank you to netgalley and Avon Books UK for the chance to read this in exchange for my honest opinion.

Katerina Diamond has got to be my #1 author, I have adored every book she has written and was super excited to be able to read an early preview.

In my opinion this isn't a book you can just pick up without reading the rest of the series, too many references are made from previous storylines, but as a fan of Katerina's work I found that all the more appealing.

You literally get sucked in from the first line, you remember the characters, their backstories and how they've made you feel, past characters make appearances and have been so well described and the story so well conceived that everything just slots into place.

A real dark and disturbing story at times and sometimes quite graphic but the book is so fast paced, even if you haven't got the stomach for it, you cant help but turning the page over and over.

It was truly refreshing to see the relationship between DS Grey & DS Miles developing throughout, especially after following their stories in previous instalments.

Hugely recommend to anyone wanting a fast paced, action packed, dark and twisted psychological thriller!

I really enjoyed this title. The plot was well written and well thought out, The description of the crimes, were a little graphic and disturbing, although not harped on too much. All in all an enjoyable and recommended thriller.
Am desperately waiting for the next catch up with Imogen Gray and Adrian Miles.

Loved this latest installment of Grey & Miles' partnership, and great to see the return of a familiar killer too. A gripping, fast paced thriller investigating a dangerous game of death and intrigue. While this is a standalone novel, the development of Grey & Miles' relationship makes more sense when the series is read in order, The Teacher, The Secret, The Angel and The Promise, Truth or Die.

When the bodies of 2 university lecturers are found and a crimewave begins amongst the students Ds Adrian Miles and his team are tasked with discovering the link, added to the mix is the arrival of a face from the past.

Although this is a riveting read i did feel it was stretched out

Truth or Die is the fifth book in a series featuring DS Miles and DS Grey. Oh I loved this. I love every book in the series. Katerina Diamond is one of my favourite authors ever! This book was just as amazing as the rest, maybe even better! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
The butchered body of a professor is found in a private room of Exeter University. It is first in a spate of murders that will shake the city. •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
An absolutely gripping read. I read this in one sitting. Again I don’t want to say too much, in fear of spoilers but I recommend you read everything by this author. These books can be read as standalone but I highly recommend you read them as a part of a series. The friendship between partners Miles and Grey is marvellous. Their chemistry, banter and all round magnetism just makes these stories even more incredible than they all ready are. I laughed, gaped and at one point shouted . A perfect read for psychological thriller fans who like things a little on the darker side. Highly, highly recommended.
P.s other books in the series in order. The Teacher, The Secret, The Angel and The Promise xx
