What Do Machines Do All Day

This would be a great addition to any curious elementary student's library. I love the wide variety of machines explained and illustrated throughout this book.

Knowing my nephew’s love of ’diggers’, I was looking forward to reading this and working out when I could get him it. I'm delighted to discover that this is a boom that will grow with him. There are words and visuals he’ll understabd and further parts of the book he’ll come back to when he's read to learn more. I can see this being a favourite of his, and a winner for any curious mini mind.

This was an adorable and informative book that was perfect for our curious machine loving 6 year old. The illustrations are colorful and very engaging. We loved reading this together and it covered so many different kinds of places than a lot of other "machine" books we have read in the past. My son loved this book.  It was easy to read with great information about different machines.  I liked how the book focused on everyday things that a child would see.  It explained it well. and used the correct vocabulary for the machine. Thanks for letting me review this book.

Cute book for kids who are interested in machines! My toddler enjoyed the pictures and my preschooler enjoyed learning about a few of the machines.

Super cute pairing of words and visuals. Loved the grouping and easy to understand (and read out loud!) text. Perfect for any elementary school aged child.

A colourful and interesting book that teaches you about machines and what they do. Very well laid out and simply explained for younger people.

The title of this book amused the heck out of me so I had to request it and see what was up. The book is about various scenarios (the farm, the building site, the mine, the mall, and so on), and in each section we learn about several machines you might find there and what these machines do.

I have to say the initial picture, introducing the scenario and showing all the machines, was a bit busy and hard to take in at first glance, but perhaps this was intentional because there is a breakdown after that page which shows the individual machines and vehicles and explains what they do (in first person voice!), then you're challenged to go back and find them in the big picture. I imagine young children will have fun with this and enhance their seek and find skills to boot, which is never a bad thing.

The text was simple and straight-forward, and the drawings were somewhat stylized to keep them simple too. They were very colorful. It would have been nice had there been a word about safety here and there, and oddly, my ebook ARC version of this (I don't merit a print book!) was doubled - so when I got to the end of the book, it started over again, and was therefore twice as long as it needed to be. Presumably that will be fixed in the final edition.

Overall I thought this was a fun book and a worthy read for young children.

What Do Machines Do All Day by Jo Nelson is a great book for any elementary transportation or engineering unit.  I could also see this being used in a thematic community unit with each machine taking part as a community helper.  The machines are organized in sections like farm, construction, etc.  Depending on the grade level, the text could be modified for comprehension.  I teach 1st and 2nd grade special education and I would use this text in my classroom.  Again, it’s perfect for K-3rd grade non-fiction study and text features.

"What Do Machines Do All Day" is a wonderful and enjoyable read. Children can easily apply the information to their daily lives. The book provides 14 common scenarios that machines/gadgets are widely used. Each scenario has their own spread of beautiful illustration then comes with explanations of individual machines/gadgets used in each situation. The text is short and easy enough for precocious young readers to read on their own with minimum adult assistance. My 5yo can read it on his own with little help from me. Even beginning readers could have a blast reading it with adults since the short text is perfect for their short attention span. The best about the book is that it could be used as a look-and-find kind of activity book if children want to take a break from reading. 

The publisher never ceased to publish quality children non fiction with beautiful graphics. The illustration are realistically rendered not only to provide the aesthetic pleasure for readers but can as well educate the young minds. My son has endless hours of joy flipping through the pages. "What Do Machines Do All Day" is a perfect gift for young and curious learners.

This is a little stunner of a book, it will really appeal to the little ones with a logical mind. My little boy with ASD likes the clear yet colourful style, with simple straightforward descriptions. The style is gorgeous , and the finish on the completed book is very nice. I think this range could be tested with, and perhaps marketed to, autistic children.

This colourful book introduces little ones to more than one hundred machines used in 14 different locations such as the farm, the building site, the film set, the train station and many others.
For every location, first, you see a rather busy introductory page, then, you turn a page and read descriptions of 8 different machines/ devices e.g. the farm: a combine harvester, a tractor, a mower, a baler, a plough, a seed drill, a milking machine and a sheep shearer.
Great for vocabulary building and spatial memory. After you have read a description, you can go back and try to spot the machine in the big picture.
The book makes you realize we are surrounded by a vast number of machines we couldn’t do without, although sometimes we don’t even know their names.
This book would make a great present for a curious little reader who loves mechanics and technology.

This book includes fourteen different settings where machines are used. Eight different machines used in each setting are identified. Simple explanations share what each does to work together or alone in places such as farms, homes and film sets. Once the reader has learned about the machines - both large and small, he/she can go back to the full page illustration and see how the machines work in that setting.
Full color highly detailed illustrations bring each setting to life. 
Young readers will enjoy seeing the action on each page and learning about how machines work together and separately in many areas.
This would be a terrific read together book for families. It combines action and facts to help readers grow.

It gives information about the various machines used daily. 
The copy I got of advance reading was not up to the mark. Hopefully the real book is more reliable.

Perfect for curious minds! Simple colorful graphics and easy to read explanations of various machines in 14 different settings.

I wasn't so impressed with this book, maybe I was expecting more images. But for a kid to know what the machines do all day is fun.

It's a nicely designed and interesting book, but I felt the artwork made things a bit difficult to see at times. It was nice, but I don't think it quite works for this book, especially for younger children, as it makes the machines too "stylized" and not realistic enough.
It's good for reminding us of some machines we don't really think about.

A fun book that teaches the little ones (and the adults too, some of the machines I wasn't familiar with either so...) about different machines and technologies we use these days - but it's also a fun game. After learning about the tools from a certain area, you have to find them in action in a bigger picture!

My littles and I loved poring over this book on my iPad! The colors were fantastic and they loved hunting for machines in different environments. Definitely a book we'll be picking up a physical copy of!
