Description

It’s the cardinal rule of the Girl Code: never date a friend’s ex. Laynie Duluth knows that Gideon Roth is completely off limits. After all, he and her best friend, Priya, dated for two years back in college. And there’s no statute of limitations on the rules of Girl Code. Problem is, somebody forgot to tell Gideon.

When Laynie wakes up in Gideon’s hotel room bed, wrapped up in a naked, deliciously attractive Gideon after a night of explosive, earth-shattering, mind-blowing sex, she knows she’s got to fess up and come clean with Priya.

Only that’s not easy knowing what she knows about her best friend, and it becomes even harder when she learns Priya might just have a secret of her own to come clean about.

So...I've never read a book by this author before...and now I know exactly what I've been missing. Trust, I'll be remedying my over-lapse fast. First, let me start with what I was feeling before I read the book...or rather my lack of feeling. I wasn't feeling it at all really. I was just desperately needing something to read because I was in such a massive book hangover and nothing was working for me. Well, thank the gods for Nicole Locker because this book sat up and slapped me across the face, demanding that I give it due attention.

From the very first page, it caught my interest with the relate-ably humorous narrative voice that the author used to convey this story. (Side note: I really like that the author wrote this in third person.) Furthermore, I loved all the girl code rules that signaled a new chapter. My favorite being, "Girl Code Rule #122: Never let a friend look rough in public," because I have had quite a few friends that have failed at this. LOL.

Alas, as this is a romance, which means that all anyone really wants to know is the relationship development between Gideon and Laynie. It was handled pretty well, in my opinion. The main female character didn't come across as whiny, needy, or anything that's irritating and that's always a plus. Gideon was hot and interesting and he fought for what he wanted instead of sitting back and letting the cards fall where they may...and the only reason I'm pointing that out is because of the "hero" in one of the last books that I've read this week. His lack of...anything attractive was truly remarkable. Nevertheless, Gideon is nothing like that character and I was rooting for him for most of the story. Steam rating: I'd give it a 5-7 on the scale.

The editing and formatting, for any readers who obsess and pick over those, was good and clean. Basically, nothing that needed fixing in those regards stood out to me. All in all, this book was really good and I'd definitely recommend it to any contemporary romance lovers. Now, I'm off to read the next book I can find by this author. <3
