School buses that have been converted into mobile living spaces — known as skoolies — are a natural extension of the tiny house craze. Buses are not only easier and safer to drive than an RV, they provide a jump-start on the conversion process with frame, roof, and floor already in place. Experienced builder Will Sutherland, whose creative school bus conversions have been featured in Road and Track and Popular Mechanics, is behind the wheel of this alluring look at life on the road. In addition to profiles of eight fellow skoolie fans and stunning photos of bus interiors designed for simple living, Skoolie! does what no other book on the subject has — it offers a complete, step-by-step guide to the conversion process, from seat removal to planning layout and installing insulation, flooring, and furnishings that meet your needs.

“Will's book marks a major stepping stone in the accessibility of information on skoolie conversions and alternative housing. This wonderful compilation of example skoolies and how-to tutorials is the perfect place for future skoolie dwellers to start their journey. We would have been so fortunate to have had this book when we started our conversion!” — Cindy and Troy Dickens, WhiteWhaleSkoolie

The book is an excellent resource for those looking to convert a bus into a home. I like how it covered all three sizes of bus, and do wish it had a section for converting vans (but understand why it doesn't). It has several color photographs of the conversion, and covers all of the steps....including the fun and not-so-fun parts. It keeps it real, too...describing what it takes to demolition before starting to rebuild and encouraging folks to know what they're getting into. The author bought a bus specifically for the purposes of writing this book, and walks us all the way through the process...from buying your bus to the end result. Great for any DIYers who want to do this project!
