My family loves Acai bowls so I was really excited for this book. The photography in this book is so beautiful and I love that they have a photo of each recipe. I also love the beginning section which talks about the different ingredients and what the health benefits are. The recipes are really unique and great, but most have some unusual ingredients that could be tricky to find. |

Easy to follow recipes that actually turn out as good as they look. I found myself utilizing this book more than once when planning menus for the week. |

Author Melissa Petitto, RD, presents over 55 healthy and delicious recipes—accompanied by gorgeous colour photographs—that include the Brazilian superfruit Açai in tasty and unexpected ways.
Jam-packed with nutrients and antioxidants, and also low in sugar, the Açai berry is the quintessential superfood. Eating Açai berries may help improve cholesterol levels, stop cancer cells from forming and spreading, and improve memory and other brain functions.
While Açai first gained fame as a smoothie ingredient and has now become a smoothie bowl main star, this super berry can be used in countless ways. After an informative introduction about the Açai berry, where to find it, and how to prepare it, find energizing smoothie and smoothie bowl recipes, followed by new Açai takes, such as energy bars, muffins, popsicles, brownies, and even fudge!
Açai is such a hot ingredient right now --- and crossword clue. ("What berry grows in the Amazon"? - it's only second to Ocala - "A town in central Florida"). Superfruits and super foods are a hot topic right now as, for instance, do get a dose of the "goodness" in blueberries, you need to eat 300 of them. A day. These well-written and yummy looking recipes (and the stunning photos that accompany them) will get you wanting to make a smoothie or a smoothie bowl expediently!)
So, as I had frozen Açai puree in my freezer, I made my first smoothie ever. I made the Avocado, Cashew, Spinach, and Açai Smoothie as I had the ingredients on hand and made it ... I didn't like it. I think it was the texture - I am a weird hater of the texture of french fries and milkshakes/soft ice cream so it kind of skeeved me out. But that is ME. (The cats however, are devouring it right now - so it must be yummy to them). As it was the first time I had used my blender in about 5 years I decided that it was time to give it away to the thrift store. (Marie Kondo...you are slowly seeping into my brain!)
There are a lot of "interesting" ingredients that most people don't keep in their pantry/freezer like Spirulina, Moringa oil (you can eat it? I use it on my skin...), pea protein powder, etc.) but if you keep this kind of these ingredients on hand, more power to you. I am sure, as well, that if you use almond milk instead of cashew milk that it won't make a difference ... what I have learned about cooking is that you can play with it. Baking? No -- that is a science, making things like soups or smoothies is an art, so play away!
As always, I try to find a reason to not rate with stars as I love emojis (outside of their incessant use by Millennials on Instagram and Twitter) so let's give it 🍨🍨🍨🍨🍨 (the recipes are healthy, and the book is great --- I am ignoring my lack of love for them when grading the book!

The photography alone makes this a worthy read, but aside from that the ideas that Melissa shares are unique, delicious and gives you a new way to think about how to prepare recipes with this super berry! I loved it and so did my family! Give it a chance and at least try a few of the ideas and share your thoughts! I’m excited to hear what you think of this surprisingly magical book! |

This book about the Acai “fruit that cries” Super Berry offers an adequate introduction to this super food and offers about 50 recipes on Acai Smoothies, Bowl and Sweet Treats. Those that are familiar with the nutrient properties of this berry will be looking i to incorporating Acai into their diets and will definitely be using this book as a reference to preparation. The pictures chosen were really thought out well. I love the tips incorporated throughout that helps a lot!! This is an awesome book for those wanting to take advantage of the positive health properties of the Acai super food. Thank you to the author, publishers and netgalley for allowing me to have access to this ARC and provide a thoughtful review. |

Acai is a delicious addition to healthful meals and this gorgeous cookbook features 55+ scrumptious recipes using the Brazilian superfruit in an array of ways — smoothies and smoothie bowls, energy bars and muffins, even brownies and fudge and popsicles. Think I’ll start with the dark chocolate, acai and coffee smoothie. Heaven! 5/5 Pub Date 14 May 2019. Acai Super Berry Cookbook is a very well put together cookbook. There are pictures for every recipe which is nice. I think one of the best things is that at the beginning of the book they cover the unique superfood items that appear in some of the recipes as well as which specific product they recommend and even potential alternate ingredients that one can use. I cannot eat raw banana so the vast majority of these recipes are not ones I will make but there are about nine smoothies and bowls that do not contain bananas as the thickening ingredient. There is a nice mix of straight fruit based recipes to veggie mixes and even coffee, chocolate, or PB & J versions. I will definitely give some of these a try. |

I'm still not a big fan of acai in certain foods (sorry, I'm never going to add it to fudge; I'm a purist in that regard), but this book gives a comprehensive list of ways to use it. My family doesn't really like smoothies, either, which this book is a great resource for, too. |
