Description

A step-by-step guide to a powerful yet simple practice to make every moment an act of meditation and connect to the joy within

• Details the simple practices of Rishi Yoga: easy physical movements, done slowly and with full awareness, combined with breathing exercises, sensory perception, concentration, and meditation

• Explains how the practices work progressively to allow you to tune in to your body and cellular memory, facilitate concentration, and cultivate self-awareness

• Reveals how to integrate Rishi Yoga into daily life to make every moment an act of meditation and access the peace and joy inherent within each of us

In this detailed guide, yoga and meditation teacher Pierre Bonnasse reveals the simple movement, breathing, and awareness techniques of the Rishi Yoga tradition, passed down through generations of yogis in the Himalayas. He shows how to integrate Rishi Yoga into daily life for discovering and recognizing the Universal Self, or Pure Awareness, and unveiling the peace and joy inherent in each of us.

The author begins by detailing the foundational practices of Rishi Yoga: easy physical movements, done slowly and with full awareness, combined with breathing exercises, sensory perception, and concentration. These moving-meditation exercises are physically simple enough to be performed seated, standing, or lying down and work progressively to allow you to tune in to your energetic body centers and cultivate a natural and effortless sense of self-awareness, which is the hallmark of Rishi Yoga, in every situation and at every moment. The author explores how Rishi Yoga trains us to become receptive to all levels of being--the physical body, emotional body, and subtle body--and enables access to tissue-level awareness and cellular memory. He also looks at this dynamic meditation’s rapport with traditional forms of yoga, such as Raja Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Hatha Yoga, and Yoga Nidra, and with the philosophy of nonduality, Advaita Vedanta, and modern methods of mindfulness.

The author explains how, as Rishi Yoga advances you from personal awareness to a state of universal consciousness, it also becomes more and more integrated into the ordinary activities of daily life, making every moment--from the time you wake up to the time you fall asleep--an act of meditation, active perception, undivided attention, and expanded awareness. And once the practice of Rishi Yoga has permeated all facets of your waking life, it brings the realization that true happiness or Enlightenment is neither a state nor an experience to attain or acquire; it is an ever-present reality to be recognized behind every thought, emotion, speech, and action--the “ultimate Bliss” described by the ancient Indian scriptures.

I, new to yoga and found this book really insightful and interesting.

This is an interesting and very thorough book. It includes so much information and the author has done his best to present it in a book. However it would benefit immensely from some guided meditation/ visualization downloads. It is hard to read and feel and do at the same time. The pictures are useful but I think a few more would have been helpful. This book is very good though and the author writes eloquently without too much padding. He seems extremely knowledgeable and this form of Yoga is very relevant to todays hectic life. Overall a great book.

A very insightful and well researched book introducing Rishi Yoga to the reader.

The book is divided into three parts:basics, exploration and reflection.

Rishi Yoga Meditation includes easy poses and movements, combined with breathing exercises.

Asana, breathing exercises and meditation are explained clearly, however I would have loved more pictures in the first chapter to complement the written part or some audio links could have been provided.

Overall a good and researched book.
As a yogi and and even if I was already familiar with several concepts in the book, I enjoyed it.

A well written treatise on this form of yoga that gives the reader a thorough understanding of complex material in a clear way. Providing the philosophical roots grounds the reader regarding the why so as to better understand the how.

This is pretty good, especially for those that don't know much about yoga. For experienced practitioners, you may pick up some tidbits, but may not be worth your time. There are some good instructions, but at about 50 steps you either have to have a great memory or be ready to have this nearby. Some helpful photos are included. I suspect there are better yoga-related books out there. This one has solid info but should not be your only starting point, not your only yoga book.

I really appreciate the advanced copy for review!!

This handy little book is like a distillation of all the important nuggets of yoga knowledge, practice and theory into their essences, removing all the noise and nonsense to get right at the heart of things. The book covers meditation, asana, Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, and philosophy, but in short, to-the-point chapters that are easy to read and follow. Very well done.

Rishi Yoga is the ideal introduction to the discipline and has a lot of in-depth information and basics for beginners to be able to learn the ropes with ease. This is an accessible, easy to follow and solid book which also helpfully features photographs and images to direct the reader in a simplified manner. Pierre Bonnasse is not an author I have come across before despite reading quite a bit from the self-help/non-fiction/meditation type genres, but I feel the background of a non-fiction writer, regardless of the field they are in or are writing about, can give valuable insight into how much they know or are interested in said topic, which is really quite important to me. so what makes Bonnasses's words worth trusting you ask? This is a particularly important question in an area of the book market which is literally saturated with very similar guides targeted towards those looking to dip their toe in the fountain of youth and/or increasing and maintaining their mental health status.

With regards to his knowledge of yoga and other spiritual endeavours, Bonnasse, it appears, has studied under the expert guidance of a variety of different spiritual masters for more than twenty years in all. He also has a substantial back catalogue of books he has penned exploring spiritual matters which have helped many people gain an understanding of how to practice yoga, the benefits and has continued to try to spread the word into the mainstream as much as possible. His dedication and need to spread the word culminated in him co-founding the Rishi Yoga Shala School, which offers yoga training programs in India and France where he lives. The book is divided into three parts: basics, exploration and reflection and discusses central concepts such as simple poses and movements, asana, breathing exercises and meditation. An insightful, comprehensive and trustworthy source for those looking for all they need to know to get started. Many thanks to Inner Traditions for an ARC.
