Skunks for breakfast gave me huge Robert Munsch vibes! A family in Nova Scotia has to deal with stinky, smelly skunks living in their crawl space. Day after day they have to endure people avoiding them because of the stench. Eventually they released all of the skunks one at a time into the wilderness.

I loved the Canadian references.

The story was silly and the illustrations were fun and bright.

This is a light story about a stinky problem.

Mainly, what do you do when your crawlspace is invaded by skunks in the winter.

And not just one skunk, but a whole family of skunks, which the family has to catch one by one.

And in the mean time, smell like skunks.

The pictures are light for such a smelly subject.

It is a cute book, apparently based on a true story.

A family in Nova Scotia has a problem. There is a skunk living under the house, and it's making a big stink! This story is about how this family dealt with their recurring skunk problem. One of my favorite lines is when the man from the hardware store informs them that there are no skunks in Nova Scotia. This made me laugh!

I think this would be a great read aloud in the classroom. It's almost absurd how many skunks there are, and I know my students would be laughing at this entertaining story.

Great cute story!

I was given a free copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Skunks or Breakfast reads as a hilarious memoir. The pictures are just darling and there's no doubt in my mind that this really happened. It's written in perfect voice for children. My son thought it was very funny and he loved the pictures as well. I believe this book was published originally some years ago, but the story is timeless and we enjoyed our experience reading it.

Pamela lives with her family in an old house by the sea in Nova Scotia. Underneath the house is a crawl space where sometimes wild animals inhabit. One cold February morning she is awakened by a horrid stench that invades her entire being. She runs to her parents room holding her nose and trying not to breathe in the putrid smell. Her Mom right away identifies the odour. It's from a skunk that is under their house. Oh my! But Nova Scotia has no skunks right? Wrong!

The whole family ends up enveloped in the stink and they are ostracized because of it. Something has to be done to rid those unwelcomed squatters from their property. But what?

Dad hatches a plan and with the help of his friend Glenn and his truck the one skunk... oh wait...okay two skunks... mmmm... better wait more.... Wow! SIXTEEN SKUNKS are transported to an undisclosed far away location. Glen has to abandon his part in the deportation because his girlfriend forbids him to have his truck polluted any more with that unbearable stink. Together Pamela and her dad manage to expel the intruders from under the house all by themselves. The skunk family is finally skunked.... or are they?

This delightful book will have kids engaged from beginning to end. It is well-written and the illustrations are gorgeous. This would be a great read-aloud story in a classroom setting. I am sure kids will enjoy it and Storywraps highly recommends it.
