Description

Mindful Paths: Steps Towards a Living Spirituality is a result of Constance McClain's 30 year exploration into the vast world of spiritual practices and religious commonalities. Her work has evolved as a key component of a fully-accredited college curriculum in Holistic Health - the first of its kind in the state of California.

This holistic approach, designed to guide students into an embodied awareness of the spirit within through integrated work in a variety of mindfulness practices, is now available for the very first time to a broader audience.

Mindful Paths: Steps Towards a Living Spirituality is a guide that embraces spirit-driven mindfulness: to ourselves as uniquely creative embodiments of spirit, and to others, by encouraging that we live our most authentic lives, with a fully heart-centered outlook, based on a foundation of deep reflection and discernment.

Please join Constance and co-author James, in an adventure of the Spirit, which will transform you and change the ways in which you perceive yourself, your personal possiblilities, and your relationship with others forever. You will gain an ever-expanded sense of respect and reverence for a world in need of larger love, compassion, and human rights.

Advance Praise

Mindful Paths: Steps Towards A Living Spirituality by Constance McClain and James Anthony Walker provides an inspiring compendium of spiritual wisdom and practice along with practical worksheets to help each reader define and refine the depth and breadth of their own spiritual being. Based on decades of study with many great teachers, and in turn teaching hundreds of their own students, I highly recommend it both for beginners and those who have already set out on their spiritual journey.

Even though you really don’t know where you are going, sometimes you need a roadmap to get there. Revs. Constance McClain and James Anthony Walker’s Mindful Paths: Steps Towards A Living Spirituality is that roadmap.

It doesn’t presume to know who you are or where you need to go, but invites you to discover both through deep and practical exercises of self inquiry. This book requires both light reading and heavy lifting. Read the book. Do the work.

-Rabbi Rami Shapiro Author, “The Sacred Art of Lovingkindness”

This new collaboration between Revs. Constance McClain and James Anthony Walker is a gem of a book, and a revelation. With great care and ease, they offer a loving introduction to spirituality as a vital dimension to our health and well-being which is deeply compelling — and potentially life-changing.

As method, they only ask for our honest, personal investment in ourselves — and therefore to the means affording a more spiritual life. They systematically ask us to consider the big questions of our deepest reality, and invite us to become increasingly aware of the rich inner life uniquely our own.

Whether you are currently engaged in a religious path, or instead find yourself to be “spiritual but not religious,” their compassionate work is an opportunity to deepen and grow. Their work is user-friendly and extremely timely, for it encourages our consideration of the impact and transformation that spirituality can have an each of us as individuals — and therefore on our culture at large, sorely in need of our loving care and consciousness. Highly recommended.

If you find that you are embarking on a personal journey of spirit, I encourage you to avail yourself of the warm and wise guidance of the Revs. Constance McClain and James Anthony Walker. Their own sacred journeys have not been direct or easy, but those rough patches have afforded them an insight and generosity of spirit that simply radiates from these lovingly written pages. Surrender to the sensible guidance of these two Divine tour guides. You can trust that they will point you in the direction that is exactly right for you.

Mindful Paths: Steps Towards A Living Spirituality is an extensive presentation on spirituality as an important dimension of our health — broken down, explained and fully supported with the aid of detailed self-help exercises. Beautifully written, thoughtful, and it seems to come from a sincere and serving place. I enjoyed this book as a source of encouragement and refocus.

A must read for anyone with even the slightest of interests in mindfulness, well-being, or spirituality.

I was raised by a woman who was deeply spiritual, but sadly this is something I have lost somewhat over the years. Especially in today's world of seemingly endless despair, I think sometimes it is almost impossible to try and maintain a positive outlook throughout life, and this is something I have challenged myself to change.

This book in that sense was an absolute breath of fresh air. The writing was eloquent, the tone with educational without being dull or overly informative, and the discussions were thought provoking and inspiring.

I came away from reading this know that I can be happy more of the time, that I can have a positive impact on the world around me, and that now it is more important than ever to try and do exactly that. Changing the world doesn't have to mean literally changing everything - having a small positive effect on those around you can be life changing, for all those involved. Treat yourself and others with more love, and more compassion, and that will change the world.

Mindful Paths is a beautifully written book full of gems. For anyone who wants to grow personally and take a deep look at their selves and how they see the world- read this book! The author discusses topics including spirituality, mindfulness, values, compassion and much more and asks thought provoking questions along with providing journal prompts. I definitely want to go through this book again and spend time on the exercises and journal prompts. Highly recommend. Thank you to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

Beautiful, fitting and very down to earth. I enjoyed reading this and have picked up some new things I can integrate into my current mindfulness and meditation. I'll be discussing it more in-depth on my mental health blog, but it was a very solid book that gave me a lot to think about - both from a spiritual and mindful perspective.
While it's spiritual in many ways, it's not shaped, to me, to a specific faith. It just deals with mindfulness from a spiritual perspective. Some of it didn't sit with me now, but I'd like to look again and see how I feel as I progress down my path of mindful understanding. This will be a tool I may return to again and again.

I received a copy of this book on Netgalley in return for an honest review.

This mindfulness guide is quite different from the mindfulness books that I usually read. There is a strong Buddhism presence in Mindful Paths compared to the ones that are more scientific based guidebooks. I find it quite interesting and it intrigues me to dive deeper into the spiritual side of mindfulness.

I've always considered myself to be more spiritual than religious, so I was curious to see what this book had to offer. I enjoyed reading it, but I'm not sure how I feel about all of it, I felt like I didn't necessarily "click" with it all. However, it is well-written, easy to read, and it's clear the authors practice what they preach, so to speak. Overall, a great way to set off on a spiritual journey of your own.
