What a unique book! It portrays stunning photographs of 42 breeds of sheep, explaining their features, use, related breed, size, origin and distribution. The sheep look very healthy and it's quite funny to try to imagine their personality! :)

The first part of the book includes a history of the sheep, the development of breeds and how to best prepare for a show.

The last part of the book is supposed to be a reportage, but it was just a low-quality collage in sepia and black and white of photos from a sheep show. I was expecting some description, some interview or some funny anecdote. In this form, it didn't seem necessary or useful.

Overall, I really enjoyed seeing all those beautiful breeds of sheep and I would recommend this book to any sheep-lover :)

This is literally a book about Beautiful Sheep. With photos of forty different champion sheep representing their breed. Each breed page includes features, use, related breeds, size, origin, and current world distribution of each breed.

As a born and bred city girl, I’m not sure why I have a fascination with the variances in farm animal breeds. It may be related to my obsession with watching dog shows on television. I’m sure I’m not the only person running into the bedroom to watch the Puppy Bowl every Super Bowl Sunday. Right? RIGHT?

Anyway, the Beautiful Sheep depicted here are as varied as dog breeds. There are some that look like dogs, deer, cats, and someone you wouldn’t want to run into in a dark alley. Those horns mean business! Again, before you say how can you say a sheep looks like a cow, I’m a city girl who has never seen a sheep up close before.

If you like sheep or photography that really catches the essence of an animal’s personality, you will enjoy this book. 4 stars! More stars if you are a sheep rancher or sheep whisperer.

Thanks to Ivy Press, Quarto Books, and NetGalley for granting my wish for a copy in exchange for my honest review.

I love animals and I really enjoyed the photos and information on the 42 types of sheep in the book. I didn't even realize there were so many different ones. Interesting and cute book.

Delivers exactly what it promises: portraits of some truly remarkable-looking champion sheep, accompanied by tons of cool factoids about the breed, its origins (so many breeds from the UK!), where they live, and the various uses for their fleece. If you want to know a little more about sheep, then this is a good resource.

An interesting coffee table book for anyone interested in showing sheep. I never knew there were so many different breeds of sheep out there and some that look more goat than cute fluffy sheep.

If I'm being completely honest I've always preferred goats over sheep, but I really enjoyed looking at these photos and learning more about the history of these animals and the different breeds. My daughter (who is 5) loved this book, because apparently sheep make funny faces when they're photographed and she thought these photos were the best thing since sliced bread.
