Ooh I like this! A real twisty thriller with a series of plane journeys at its heart. Claire and Eva are looking to escape their current lives for very different reasons. They meet by chance at an airport and decide to swap boarding passes and therefore lives. They're through security and about to board their flights. What could go wrong? Well one thing - Eva boards a flight to Puerto Rico which crashes off the coast of Florida, while Claire flies to Oakland and assumes Eva's identity.
We learn about Claire's story in the present day and present tense whilst Eva's comes out gradually in the months leading up to the crash. Talk about intrigue and chills! Loved the way these two stories were told and the voices of both was compelling and utterly gripping.

I've actually fancied swapping boarding passes with someone before. Not in real life but in a dream, a daydream when stuck at an airport. Imagine what would happen!
That cover is gripping too and totally adds to the overall feel of the book. Recommended from me!

I'd recommend this book as the perfect summer holiday read.

This was a great read for me and I read it in one sitting , Two totally different women meet seemingly by chance at airport . Claire is trying to escape a violent marriage to a powerful man , Eva is trying to outrun the life she fell into . They hatch a plan , swap boarding passes and each one takes the others place . We get Claire's story in the present and Eva's story up to meeting Claire .The story really drew me in and I was really rooting for both women to escape . Would be a great beach read . 5 stars

I enjoyed this insightful and intelligent thriller very much. The storyline flows at a great pace, and the characters are well fleshed out. Highly recommended!

This is a suspenseful, easy read and I enjoyed it hugely.
This is a cleverly crafted (although somewhat unbelievable at times) story of two women who swap identities. One is presumed dead after an aircraft crash and the other is propelled into danger after slipping into the other’s identity.
The descriptions of the coercive control and abuse of Claire are excellent…it is almost a relief to enter the drug dealing world of Berkeley after reading some of those passages.
Altogether a really satisfying read and perfect escapism for these troubled times. Highly recommended.

I loved this book, and reading the storyline that unfolded. What at first I thought was going to be a predictable storyline, I soon discovered that I was wrong. I found that I needed to keep reading as I wanted to find out what happened to our main characters, neither ending was what I was expecting. Really well written, and I was quite sad that the book had to end.

Fantastically written and one of those books that the twists come about at the perfect times. I was so wrong about my guess for the ending and I love when that happens. Two thumbs up.

One flight can change everything forever. Claire and Eva find their lives at a crossroads when they cross paths at the airport one fateful morning. Claire is trying to escape from a controlling and abusive marriage whereas Eva is trying to escape a life of crime and deceit. When they swap plane tickets it leaves one person reportedly dead and one person living the life of a wanted person.

What I loved about this book was that both Claire and Eva were so likeable and the emotions and reactions to the situations they faced were both so relateable and true to real life. I felt Claire's fear of her husband and Eva's desire to turn her life around. I was rooting for them both to get the life that they both deserved.

The Flight flips between 2 different time frames and this gives a vital insight into Eva's backstory which is heartbreaking in itself. It neatly ties up elements of the story and throughout the various twists and turns it cleverly brings both Claire and Eva together again towards the ending of the book.

I would entirely recommend this book and I cannot wait to read more from Julie Clark.

I read this a month ago and the plot and characters have stayed with me. Two women leading very diametrically opposed lives agree to swap plane tickets at an airport. One never arrives (or does she?) while the other adjusts to a very different way or living. Well developed, with numerous strong female characters and a fast-paced narrative. I was kept guessing about who was on which side (no spoilers!). The twist at the end is extremely surprising but satisfying - this author knows how to craft a thriller. I loved it. A perfect summer read.

The premise of this book is interesting and the book itself doesn’t fail to deliver on it’s promise.

Essentially, this is a switching identities story, which is complicated by the fact that both women have secrets and complicated backgrounds, that the other does not know/understand.

The writing is fantastically descriptive and you can picture everything so vividly that it feels like a film inside your head. The two main characters who switch identities are very different people at first glance but have more in common the more you read. There are also a few other characters who are more than what they seem. As they are unveiled, there are surprises in store and the story goes down unexpected avenues. I did guess one of the avenues, and I think many readers will, but there are so many others that it does not feel at all predictable.

For fans of thrillers, mystery, crime and ‘domestic noir’, this will not fail to engage and excite.

Thanks to Hodder & Stoughton, Netgalley and the author for access to this ARC.

Wow I just love this book. It is a tight, but masterfully plotted, page turning read. I particularly liked the change of characters’ points of view, motivations and various timelines. Both Eva and Claire are strong women, both desperate to leave their current lives but never did those characters merge. They had their own identity which is a hard thing to achieve but a testament to this very talented author. I’m off to seek out her first book as I love the way she writes. Great plot twists, empathetic characters, tension ratcheting up with every chapter - what more could you want?

In The Flight two women are leading lives in which they don’t belong and both are desperate to escape. Two very different women; Claire Cook who is married to the powerful Rory, part of the wealthy and influential Cook dynasty, and now running for Senate and Eva James, a Berkeley college dropout, all alone in this world. But both are united in their desire to throw off the constraints of their current lives and be free to take control of their own narrative. They no longer want to be defined by the men in their lives. Except it’s never going to be that simple since one false move could prove catastrophic.
In a nutshell this is about the consequences of two women coincidentally meeting at JFK airport and audaciously switching plane tickets and by default their identities. It’s with this chance meeting that I was totally gripped. Claire’s plane ticket to Puerto Rico is now in the hands of Eva whilst Claire herself lands up in Berkeley. So far so good. However life has a habit of throwing curveballs and when flight 477 to Puerto Rico crashes killing all passengers on board the guilt Claire feels at swapping lives is immense but of paramount of importance is her need to remain under the radar, forging a new life with a false identity. How difficult that is to accomplish remains to be seen. What follows is such an elaborate game of cat and mouse so that on many occasions my heart was in my mouth, hoping and praying they wouldn’t be caught out.

Both stories are equally riveting. Claire’s story is told in the present whilst Eva’s is told in the past during six months prior to the crash. It’s impossible to decide which woman warrants the most sympathy as you can draw parallels between them both. Thus far their lives have been overshadowed by loss but they are both incredibly strong women. It was my belief that perhaps they don’t realise how strong until current events force them to utilise every ounce of guile and resourcefulness they possess. These women should in no way be underestimated and I admired them in equal measure. Every single part of me wanted Claire and Eva to succeed with all kinds of emotions coursing through me as I became immersed in their stories. Fear, admiration, sadness and hopefulness are just some of the feelings I experienced as I discovered more about their backgrounds.

Unfortunately people like Eva and Claire are always going to be used as collateral damage in the game of life where money buys silence. Rules are so different if you belong to a wealthy influential family like the Cooks but I felt sheer determination and the will to survive puts these two women in a class of their own.

Plenty of suspense thrillers claim to be full of twists and turns and unputdownable; it’s a much loved marketing ploy that every publisher of books of this genre seems to employ. In most cases this claim is true to varying degrees but I’m beginning to become wearisome of this especially as I read a great many suspense thrillers. HOWEVER the premise for The Flight is a brilliant one with quite a few twists that ARE unexpected and I feel Julie Clark’s writing deserves such high praise. This is exactly how a suspense thriller should be written. It’s so taut and tense and very very clever. At no time did I ever think a situation was unbelievable (although I have no idea if it is entirely plausible for two people to switch airplane tickets). With the creation of two such strong intelligent women determined to take back control of their own destinies, I believe the author has written a BRILLIANT piece of fiction. In fact the other women in this novel, Danielle, Liz and Kelly are portrayed in the same light so that in the wake of #MeToo campaign I couldn’t help but feel the whole tone of the book is a celebration of the underlying power of women in general. The ending is probably not what the reader will want or expect but in my opinion that makes it all the more enjoyable. I simply cannot fault this so unsurprisingly it’s a resounding 5 star read for me.
My thanks as always to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read an ARC.

A story of two ladies, both needing to escape, both looking for a way out. Will they be each other's answer? It was calculating, clever and intense. It was attention-grabbing and I couldn't put it down.

Great story and excellent pace throughout. There was a lot of swapping about of time between the chapters but that added to the interest. Using the two main characters Claire and Eva to tell both sides of what proved to be quite a complex story proved to be a really good idea.
There was a reasonable amount of previous history to get across in order for the personalities to be made clear but it wasn’t dragged out or overly intrusive.
A few complete surprises along the way and for a pleasant change I wasn’t left with lots on unanswered questions.
I probably would have given four and a half Stars if I could but I’m still happy to up it to five. Not much to grumble about just a very good book.

I love a suspense/thriller novel but so many seem to have become a bit too similar recently, with the unreliable female narrator seemingly top of the pile. If you are looking for something a bit different, well written and still full of twists and turns, I suggest you pick up this book immediately - it had me gripped from the start and I flew through it. Put it in your TBR list now!

Two women, living very different lives, both want to run away from their current lives - they meet by chance at an airport bar and a split second decision has life-changing consequences. Told from alternating points of view, Clark's character development is fantastic, as we get to know two strong women, very different but both trying to make the best of life in difficult circumstances, who you can't help but root for despite their flaws, and Clark cleverly weaves one present time narrative with one leading up to the point at which they meet. The tension builds slowly, with plenty of twists that I did not see coming, leading to an ending that is weirdly both unexpected and unsurprising, but more importantly so well written that it absolutely gets you in the gut.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

What a fantastic read this book was!

An absolute master at suspense, Julie Clark builds a tense start as Claire makes the final arrangements in her plan to disappear. As a reader, it can sometimes be difficult to get inside the mindset of the characters at the start of a book but with The Last Flight I was right there with Clare sneaking through her home listening for footsteps on floorboards and desperately waiting for information to transfer! I was gripped from the very start!

I really liked Eva's character. Her challenges, her inability to let people in, her feeling that she deserves no better than what she has ended up with all make for a woman who has given up hope, until she's shown the love and care she's been missing all her life. Eva's journey is one of growth, hope and opportunity and I really enjoyed her character development. Out of the two women, it was Eva's story I was more interested in. I really enjoyed reading the events in Eva's life in the months leading up to meeting Claire at the airport and felt they were really well developed and interspersed with the current events happening in Claire's life.

This is a really well-written, well-paced and well-developed book that I'd highly recommend. Very enjoyable, this book had me gripped and for me the ending was bittersweet.

The Last Flight is an important message to women who fear they won't be believed or who are too afraid to speak up in a world of unfair treatment, abuse and discrimination. The dedication in this book is touching and an admirable attempt by the author to try and encourage women to stand up for each other and give each other a voice. An important message in this poignant era of #MeToo and feminism.

Thank you to NetGalley, Julie Clark and Hodder & Stoughton for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Everything had been planned meticulously for months. Taking the trip to Detroit and then vanishing somewhere in Canada. But when Claire Cook wakes up on the morning which will free her finally from her abusive husband, she learns that he has altered their plans, she is to go to Puerto Rico. All the strategy, fake passport, preparations were in vain. Eva, another woman, as desperate as Claire, runs into her at the airport and makes an offer: trade tickets. Both of then need a new start and have powerful people on their heels. None of them has anything to lose anymore and so they decide to step in each other’s shoes. When Claire lands in California, she finds out that the plane she was supposed to be on crashed which makes her a free woman with a new identity. But the new life she has hoped for for months, does not feel right somehow and one questions lingers at the back of her mind: what did Eva run from?

“The Flight” belongs to those books that you open and cannot put down anymore. It the brilliantly told story of two women who are desperate to an extent where they feel that there is nothing to left to lose anymore and who would take any risk since they know this could be their only and last chance to get their own life back. While we follow Claire’s first days in her new life, Eva’s last months before the meeting at the airport is narrated providing insight in her tragic story.

Full of suspense you simply keep on reading to find out if the women could escape. Yet, apart from this aspect, there is also some quite serious undertone since, on the one hand, we have Claire stuck in a marriage marked by psychological and physical abuse and a controlling and mighty husband who considers himself above the law. On the other hand, Eva’s life has totally derailed because of her background where there were no rich parents who could afford expensive lawyers or knew the right people and therefore she was paying for something her boyfriend actually was responsible for. This surely raises the questions to what extent women still much likelier become a victim of false accusations and endure years of assault because they do not find a way out of their lamentable situation. Additionally, can it be true that with money and power you can put yourself above the law and get away with it?

A great read that I totally enjoyed and which certainly will make me ponder a bit more after the last page.

I absolutely loved this book, it is probably my favourite book of 2020 so far.
From the start it grabbed my attention, a superbly written story about two complex women who are both trying to escape their darkness in different ways, yet both courageous, strong and very likeable.
This book twists and turns and leaves you loath to put it down, it also centres on and explores female friendships and supports, I found the ending satisfying and very poignant.
I really loved Julie Clarks' writing style, I especially found her portrayal of both women's triggers and reactions bought about by their histories beautifully and sensitively written.
A clever, exciting and fabulous book which I loved, I read an E-copy but I have pre ordered a physical copy as this is a book I will read again.
Thank you to Netgalley, Julie Clark and Hodder and Stoughton for the opportunity to read an advance copy in exchange for an impartial and honest review, I recommend this book very highly.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder Books for my ARC of this book!

Wow this book was brilliant! It kept me hooked from the beginning!
It tells the story from Claire and Eva's point of view, Claire's is the present and Eva's is the past and how she came to be in the position she is in.
I was gripped from the beginning and struggled to put it down! I love reading this genre and this was fast paced and addictive!
I really felt for both characters and was drawn into both their stories and how they were different but also drawn together by both being completely desperate to escape!
A must read!

Two women with completely different lives have one huge thing in common: they want to escape and leave the danger of their old lives behind. After a chance encounter at JFK airport, Claire and Eva form a plan to switch places and drop off the grid when they land. But will both women reach their destination?

Full of twists, turns and, most importantly, more of an understanding of abusive relationships, The Flight is the perfect gripping suspense story to read this summer. The book barely left my hands and I'm not ashamed to admit that I feel asleep with it still in my grip on multiple occasions because of how late I tried to stay up to get through just one more chapter...

The story is told from the points of view of both women, alternating with each chapter. Although I've previously found this to be off-putting, I thought it was such a brilliant way to suck me in. We go through different points in the timeline and slowly begin to see how these two women are somehow connected, despite how unlikely it would be. But that's one of the things I love most about it; it's an unlikely situation but still possible. Through the unraveling of each woman's past, they both started to set up a permanent residence in my heart. Each action and decision they made, I was rooting for them with such passion I rarely have for fiction characters.

I was hooked from the first chapter. Clark's impressive writing truly had me addicted and begging for more, even after the ending that sent a shiver down my spine.

Such a brilliant story that I all but beg everyone to read.

A-MAZ-ING!!!! Very few books have kept me gripped throughout in the way this one did, or kept my pulse racing with no let up in the tension. I read a comment about how this book would make a brilliant Netflix series, and I couldn't agree more. Thrillers, when done well, are the best escapism, and this is one of the most exciting and well-written plots that I have read in a long time. I was fully invested in the two main characters stories, and could not put it down, but at the same time didn't want it to end.

Claire is married to a powerful politician, Rory Cook. But she hides a secret. Behind closed doors, he is a controlling, manipulative and abusive husband.

Eva made a mistake in college that has changed her life irrevocably. She has found herself cooking up and dealing drugs and can see no way out.

Two women living in fear. Two women at an airport wishing to disappear. Could they pull off a heist that would allow them both to break free of the chains that bind them, and rebuild their lives somewhere no-one can find them?

There are so many twists and turns and I want to rave about them all, but this book deserves to be read with no spoilers. It is simply brilliant.

The Flight is a gripping read, with characters you really root for. Told from the point of view of two American women, drawn together at a turning point in both of their lives. In desperation they switch plane tickets, only for one of the flights to crash killing all occupants. But did it?

The Flight kept me guessing throughout. Because it switches from one woman’s story before the crash to the others after the switch - it keeps you reading, wanting to know the next part. Engaging, twisty, sad and well written, I recommend this for a great summer read.

Thank you for Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

This is a gripping read! How would you disappear from your life if you were on the run? Could swapping lives with someone at an airport be the answer?

Claire's perspective is written in the first person, as she is living the experiences; whereas Eva's is written in the 3rd person explaining the events leading up to the point.

It contains themes of domestic violence and female solidarity.

It's a great read and if it hadn't been for "life" then I would have finished it in one day!

This wasn’t like any book I’ve read before. I read this in pretty much one sitting. It was just brilliant.

The story is focused on two perspectives, Claire who is an abused wife, and Eva who made one mistake that sets her on the wrong path. The two of them swap flight tickets after meeting in a bar and take each other’s place on the flights and in identity. It gave the back story of Eva and how life can spiral out of control just by making one single wrong decision. Claire’s perspective in set in the current time and how life changes after the changed flights.
I started off not really liking Eva, but as the story wore on her character grew on me, and once the layers of her were stripped away you could see a completely different person.
I liked Claire from the start, and the descriptives regarding her abuse from her high up the chain husband really brought home how some women can’t just leave the marriage as is expected in this day and age. Her position came across as no way out and trapped. I wondered how the story would conclude, and how they tangled together. But the ending resolved with all the small threads being pulled together making a brilliant story. It was emotional, page turning, well written, believable, relatable, and every other emotion in between.
I really enjoyed this book, and would definitely recommend to family and friends.

Total escapism - the fantasy we all have from time to time of leaving everything behind and starting afresh to create the life you think you want. Just what a good novel should be. The characters in this book are credible and likeable. They’re developed well although Eva’s history and back story is developed better than Claire’s. Others have said that there’s a mini series or the potential for a film here and I absolutely agree. It kept me guessing right to the end. A really enjoyable read and one I’d definitely recommend - I will be looking out for books by this author.

I've been looking for a great thriller and .... I got it with this book!!
A psychological thriller about two women in crisis who have a chance encounter at an airport which provides each of them the opportunity to escape from their lives by switching flights and undertake each other's identities.
Clare is trying to escape from her abusive husband and Eva from a dangerous life. Told through both women eyes we learn much about their lives and their reasons to escape.
Loved this book - was a real page -turner, fast paced well plotted and I was hooked from the start.
I can highly recommend - you won't be disappointed!
Thanks to Netgalley for giving me this book for an honest review

Claire and Eva are complete strangers, living in wildly different worlds. Their only similarity is the desperate need they share to escape from their lives. So when the two bump into each other at an airport, it seems fate has given them a chance, and they quickly come up with a plan - switch places, with each boarding the other woman's plane, and then vanish upon arrival. But nothing is ever as easy as it seems...

Oh my god I loved this! The plot is so so smart, with every little detail thought out and planned for, and I loved the fact that every question that pops up throughout the book eventually has a whip smart solution by the end. I also cannot believe how many twists and turns there were throughout! Obviously I can't specify for fear of spoilers, but oh my gosh there were so many surprises and 'aha!' moments that I was completely gripped!

I honestly cannot recommend this enough. The idea behind it is completely unique and so incredibly well executed, Eva and Claire are both such well written and believable characters, and the spiderweb of a plot that Clark was able to create in this novel was just amazing. Definitely a read in one go situation with this book, and I can't wait to see what she does next!

Disclaimer - I was fortunate enough to be provided with an advance reading copy by NetGalley and the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way, and all opinions are my own.

I read it in one sitting like many other readers, sat in the garden on a sunny day. Perfect beach read for this summer. Twists and turns and likable characters will draw you in.

That was epic.

I normally don't read thrillers...and if I do, they are of the psychological variety. I was captivated from the very first page.

Claire is the wife of a rich and abusive husband who is making the cross into politics as his mother did before.

Eva came from a childhood in foster care after her mother gave her up. She now makes a good living by working in her old college town.

At an airport, the two have a chance encounter that has them saying *insert GIF of Lindsay Lohan in Parent Trap saying "We should switch places."

Both have something they're running from. Both are actually destined to meet. Only one lives after their switch.

Throughout the book, there were so many places and characters I had no clue how this was all going to be tied up in the end, but it was done in a way with everything wrapped up effectively.
My heart was palpitating the whole time and THIS will be a top summer (or all of 2020) read I'm sure!

A really enjoyable book. Claire is trapped in an abusive marriage and Eve is caught up in drugs making. Both want out and swap their identities without knowing each others problems. Although this is an unlikely premise the story does give more credence to the coincidence. It does move between each characters story and their past, but it is clearly written and not confusing. The story moves at a brisk pace. I will certainly look out for more titles from this author.

Absolutely gripping! Claire has what seems a perfect life from the outside, married to a very successful man. However, all is not as it seems, and she plans to make an escape.

At the airport she approached by Eva, also wanting to escape from the problems in her life. They agree to exchange tickets, and then live off the grid with their new identities.

The story is told from Claire and Eva's perspective, following their stories to learn how they reached this impasse and what happens when they try to move on with their lives. I could not put it down, wanting to know what happened and why.

Well written, entertaining, pacy, a cracking good tale and a real page-turner.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for allowing me access to the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! I read this in less than 24 hours (with a full day in work added in!). It absolutely had me gripped from start to finish. It tackled some serious issues, domestic abuse, children in care, drug abuse and selling, and tackled them really well. I was rooting for Claire from the beginning and loved the Eva/Liz friendship. My first five star review in a while!

So, we take two completely different women, both with tricky lives, throw in a chance meeting in a bar at an airport and we end up with them swapping tickets and lives. Sounds a bit strange on the face of it but the rest of the story that the author weaves around this key moment turns out to be nothing but amazing. Especially when one of the planes crashes...
"Oh what a tangled we we weave" sprung to mind as I was reading this book. And it did all turn out to be just that when all the threads came together at the end. I'd love to expand on some of the more delicious moment in this book but spoilers prevent me from doing so but I will say that this book does get a bit dark in places - for both the main characters - but never so the whole thing got too heavy.
I was drawn into the lives of both the main characters right from the start of the book and they sucked me in, powerless to step away, as their stories unraveled. Not without emotion either as there are some hard truths in this book and not all is easy to read. All handled with care I hasten to add.
It's fast paced and, on occasion, it felt like the narrative was threatening to run away with itself but the author kept a tight rein on both story and characters and maintained the balance of pace admirably.
I keep saying this, but in this case it's important. I firmly believe that less is more going into this book. There is so much to discover along the way and it's best to do this as the author intended.
All in all, a cracking book that hit the ground running for me and which left me wholly satisfied at its conclusion. A new author for me but one that is now on my watchlist.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book

Wow. This book had me totally gripped from the start, right up to the very last page.

I felt tense throughout the entire story and couldn't wait to find out what the author had in store for us and how things were going to be explained.

Told in alternate chapters and different timelines, Claire and Eva are very different people but both desperately want to escape and get away from their lives so when they meet by chance they swap flights.

Although dangerous, they are desperate. Claire is wanting to escape her seemingly perfect life and husband, a senator in waiting from an influential American family. Things aren't what they seem despite the perfect appearance they give. Eva is a bit more guarded and we learn more about her life throughout the book and why she is wanting to escape...

Julie Clark has written a very clever book and I was fully invested in the characters she has written along with the tense atmosphere she ramps up in each chapter. I can really see this book being a bestseller.

Highly recommended.

Wow, what an incredible read! I loved it from the beginning to the end and struggled to put it down.

"Tell me about despair, yours, and I will tell you mine. Meantime the world goes on"

This is a story about two women. Its a story about courage and standing up for yourself and doing the right thing. Abuse can take on many forms and in this story, we meet Claire and Eva who are both trying to get away from a difficult situation. Claire is married to an abusive man who is in the public eye. Eva is involved in the manufacturing and selling of drugs with no way of getting out. All that both of them want to do is just disappear but even the most carefully worked out plans can go wrong. Will a meeting at an airport make these wishes come true and how difficult is it really to disappear? How easy is it to shed your skin and become a new person? AND......was Eva on the plane or not?!

A brilliant mystery thriller/domestic noir. I will definitely look out for more books from this author!

Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder &/Stoughton for the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion

FANTASTIC READ! I've seen this book advertised as a psychological thriller which is what I expected going into it, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's more of suspense meets women's fiction. Can you imagine being so desperately trapped in a dangerous situation that you're willing to risk everything to change your identity and leave your life behind? That is the predicament that Claire, trying to escape her abusive husband, and Eva, trying to escape her dicey career, find themselves when their paths cross in an airport bar and they decide to exchange boarding passes. But will this split-second decision lead them to the safety they both doggedly pursue or will danger continue to follow them? Told from two different perspectives on two different timelines, The Flight is an addictive read with two vulnerable yet strong female leads that will keep you on the edge of your seat, rushing to discover how it all plays out.

This was exactly the sort of thriller I needed in my life 🙌🏻
It had everything you could want with an abundance of drama, twists and turns. I was hooked and I loved it.
Also, it was nice to have some likeable characters for once! Despite their flaws, I found myself really rooting for them.

I really enjoyed this book with two strong lead characters who I came to really care about. The story of women who have to escape powerful men is sadly not a new one, but this page turning thriller manages to tell it with a different slant, and the inevitable question of how would I cope in the situation?

Really enjoyable book with lots of twists and quirks. You spend a fair amount of time thinking you may know how this is going to end, only to be surprised at different points.

I got this book from NetGalley and I’m so happy I was approved as it’s such a gripping novel! It follows two women from very different walks of life who become caught up in each other’s lives. Claire is married to a very controlling man but because of who he is and the power he holds she can’t escape him. On a trip he sends her on she gets her way out when a woman who looks a little like her approaches her wanting to swap places and each get on the others flight! We soon learn that the plane has crashed and the media believes Claire was on it. The novel is told from Claire’s perspective going forwards as she tries to remain hidden. It’s also told from Eva’s point of view in the months leading up to her swapping flights with Claire. I was equally invested in both women’s stories and was hoping both would escape their pasts and find a way to make a new life. There are twists and turns along the way that I wasn’t expecting so this book really kept me on my toes, I felt really quite bereft on finishing it. I recommend this one!

Two women, Eva and Claire, are from very different backgrounds, but they both need to escape their lives.
They bump into each other at the airport and hatch an identity swap that seems foolproof.
But what will happen whey Claire starts living as Eva, and she wonders what she’s really got herself into?
This is a great novel - full of suspense, twists and unexpected alleyways.
Clark writes well and you completely believe in her characters.
It’s a sure-fire hit in the tradition of ‘Gone Girl’ and I’d recommend it wholeheartedly.

I loved this book and how it took the stories of two women and looked at how their lives would be changed by a chance, or not so chance, encounter in an airport. Eva is running away but what from? Claire is the wife of a prominent politician but all is not as rosy as you would think. Her every move is controlled.

The back story of Eva is a great story and is intermingled with Claire's modern day tale. You really feel for both women and want them both to do well, despite all odds.

This is a story of two Vulnerable women who are trying to escape from danger. Claire is married to Rory, who has a family dynasty like the Kennedys. However, behind closed doors Rory is violent and Claire is planning to leave him, she meets Eva at an airport and she is also on the run. She tells Claire a load of lies that she believes and they swap boarding passes hoping that both of them can just disappear and never be seen again. But can you really hide forever?
A well written fast paced read, told in dual plots and goes back and forth in timelines, it is still very easy to follow. The characters were both believable and I was rooting for them both! There are lots of little twists and turns along the way too, just when I thought I had it figured out, something else would happen and I’d have to think again. An excellent read.

Well, Where Can I Start: I Could Put It Down. It Really Did Grab My Attention From The Start. I Loved How It Was A Story Of Two Women, Taking Their Fates Into Their Own Hands And Turning Their Lives Around. Twists I Never Would’ve Expected And I Thought The Storylines Were Neatly Wrapped Up At The End - Even If It Didn’t End The Way I Had Expected. Fantastic Book

This book is brilliant.

The book is based on two very different women who are trying to disappear.

Claire is married to Rory Cook, a politician who was a kind, loving partner who became abusive once they were married. The Cooks have a lot of power and simply won't accept Claire walk away, can she escape her abusive relationship?

Eva is a woman who has been through the foster system, being let down over and over again. Men lead her in a direction which lead her to become a drug dealer but has she been caught dealing? Shes being followed by a Federal Agent, he wants her to give evidence against her boss but can he offer her protection?

The two desperate women meet at the airport and they exchange tickets. One of the planes crash, did they make it?

I could not put this book down, i was compelled to keep reading to follow the stories of Claire and Eva. The story switches between the two women but its really easy to follow. I highly recommend this book! 5 stars without a doubt!

I absolutely loved this book! I started it before bed and ended up reading it in one sitting, finishing as dawn was breaking! It was fast-paced but still fully developed the characters. Multiple perspectives and flashbacks aren't my favourite but it worked so well in this story. Highly recommend!

Two women wanting to escape from abusive and threatening situations decide to swap identities and plane journeys. This story had me gripped from the first word. It is a tense, thrilling read with plenty of scary plot twists. Once you start reading it's difficult to put down. The characters are strong and courageous, trying to take back control of their lives. The final twist is very poignant.
Highly recommended.

Finally - a suspense thriller that lives up to the hype. I just loved this book and read it in 2 sessions. Two women, Eva and Claire, from vastly different backrounds, find themselves at the airport - each one trying to leave behind their hideous lives and start anew anonymously. I won't go into the entire plot here - but they agree to swap identities in order to make good their respective escapes. What follows on is an aircrash - and that's when the story really comes into it's own. I could hardly put this book down, so good was the plot, the characters, the settings and the suspense. Highly recommend it. My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

An easy 5 stars! Well, this is how you write a suspense thriller! 👏👏👏This is the story of two vulnerable and brave women who want to escape from their world which has become too dangerous to live in. Claire Cook is married to Rory, a family dynasty not unlike the Kennedys. Rory presents a charismatic, charming face to the world but that is not who or what he is. Claire makes plans to vanish but these plans go awry. At JFK airport she meets Eva, also on the run but the story she spins and which Claire buys into is a lie. They trade flights and hopes that this will allow them to vanish from their lives but the Puerto Rico flight Claire should have been on crashes ..... The story is told in dual storylines by Claire in the present day and by Eva in a countdown from 6 months prior to the crash.

The two storylines are gripping and very easy to follow. You feel Claire’s panic, tension and fear which is sometimes so great its sickening and in the pit of your stomach. Eva is lost, she gets herself embroiled in things, her dreams are dashed partly because she’s powerless, she feels unloved and expendable especially when she becomes caught between two equally dangerous options. Both women are very likeable, they’re flawed but who isn’t, you really want both of them to succeed, get away, have a second chance and start afresh with opportunity rather than danger. I really like the Berkeley, San Francisco setting which provides an atmospheric backdrop to the unfolding drama. The story is very well plotted and the pace is spot on and really ramps up towards the end. There is some tension and bumps along the road when you hold your breathe and keep your fingers crossed for both women. There are twists and turns and some of those I most certainly didn’t see coming. The ending feels right although it’s probably not what you are hoping for.

Overall, a terrific suspense thriller which is extremely well written, keeps your focus throughout with characters you invest in. Highly recommended.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton for the ARC.

This is a true suspense thriller in every sense of the word! It really lived up to its premise and was an excellent read. I was gripped from the start, and I’d definitely recommend it to all.

I started reading this at 6pm last night and finished it at 2pm today. I absolutely loved it. What a page turner! The pace was fantastic; I didn’t want to put this down at all. The story wasn’t in any way contrived, tedious, or predictable - each chapter kept the momentum going and flowed perfectly into the next. I was consistently on the edge of my seat, hungry to find out more. The two main characters - Eva and Claire - were well formed, relatable, and the entire plot was original and a lot of fun to delve into! Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers, and the author for having given me the chance to read this manuscript. It was excellent. I have already started recommending this title to friends and family. I enjoyed it through and through 👍

The Review
On the surface, Claire Cook has everything; she’s married to a handsome philanthropist, lives in a gorgeous house in New York and spends her time doing charitable work. Of course, it’s all a façade, and she’s trapped with a man who scares her, and has no control of her life.

Enter Eva; a woman desperate to escape her own version of Hell where a chance meeting at the airport leads to them exchanging plane tickets, and fates.

This story is told from alternating points of views, and differing points on the timeline. You follow Claire in the present, as she makes her plan to leave, and then as she comes to terms with what’s happened. You then find out about Eva’s past, what she’s really running away from and the decisions that led her to where she is now.
I found this a fantastic way to tell the story, and allow for some brilliant character development. Both characters, although very different, are likeable, despite being flawed, and it’s hard not to hope for happy-endings all around.

This was a very pacey and enjoyable read. I could easily have polished it off in one or two sittings, were it not for an insane amount of children that constantly need feeding or refereeing.

The Stars
Very entertaining, great plot and interesting characters. I rarely give 5 stars, but I see no reason to mark this one down at all.

What a remarkable book this is, a thriller yes but it has a whole lot more going for it than that and I loved it. The story is told from two different women Claire who is married to a rich, ambitious but cruel man and Eva who after being raised in foster care finds herself in a dangerous situation that she is desperate to get away from. What follows is an amazing story about these two very different women whose paths cross in an airport lounge when they are both trying to escape from their situations and we have twists and heartache as we follow both their stories as they both seek a way to find a new life.
It’s an impossible book to describe without giving any of the plot away so I would just say read it you won’t be disappointed it’s beautifully crafted the characters are very real and it’s got one hell of a plot so what more could you want from an excellent 5 star read and I look forward to reading more from Julie Clarke in the future.
My thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton for giving me the chance to read the ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.

I picked this book up 10 hours ago and literally couldn’t put it down. It is absolutely brilliant! From the moment you start reading, you are drawn in to the lives of Claire and Eva and have to know whether they succeed or not. I cannot go into details without giving spoilers, suffice to say it is excellently written and progresses at a fast pace, with several twists and turns along the way. A very strong 5⭐️ and highly recommended.

Exciting, compelling and utterly addictive. From the very first page of this book my heart started pounding in anticipation of a really great read. I was not disappointed. 'The Flight' is a pure adrenaline rush from the get-go. The storyline is both original and engrossing - a combination you rarely find in this genre any more. Indeed, this is not just a good thriller, it is a great thriller, one of the best I have read in years. It begins with two women swapping plane tickets in pursuit of a future very different from their respective pasts. Claire is married to a rich scion of the Cook family, a fictionalised version of the Kennedy's. Rory Cook, however, is not a good husband to Claire. Violent and controlling, Claire carries the abusive actions of her husband in both body and mind. She needs to escape, but how? A carefully laid plot to escape goes awry, and it takes a fateful meeting with Eva to see a pathway through her difficulties. They assume each others identities, but Eva's plane crashes, whilst Claire escapes to Oakland, California. The past and present of both women collide to devastating effect. Indeed, this is where the ingenious plotting of Julie Clark really comes into play as the layers of Claire and Eva's lives are laid bare for the keen reader's delectation. With a number of unpredictable twists that left me awestruck, this story built to a thrilling climax. Taut-plotting, realistic dialogue, crisp prose and characters so real they seem to defy their fictional existence, makes this a standout thriller for the summer of 2020.

5 Star brilliance.

#TheFlight #NetGalley
Disturbing and dark psychological thriller of 2020.
Claire and Eva lead very different lives, but they have one thing in common - they are both in huge danger and need to disappear.
A chance encounter at the airport presents the two women with a simple but crazy solution: switch places then drop off the grid when they land. But one woman will never reach her destination.
