While I enjoy this series and it's an automatic read for me I saw the ending coming way before the book got there and thought it was very obvious. That being said it was a heck of a journey introducing some new characters who were an exciting edition. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book or the series as it's always a great read. Jon Reznick is definitely one of my favorite characters.

J.D. Turner has a hit with Hard Target. It kept me reading all day as I had to know what was coming next. It's a suspense thriller about corruption at the top of the Pentagon, all aided by a mystery man with easy access to the most powerful figures. Jon Reznick is the lead good guy, assisted by two solid hackers. (They don't quite get their due like Reznick does.) We know that good guy stories like this usually, well, always, go the way the good guy wants them to, but the ride was fantastic. Thanks, NetGalley, and the publisher for the ARC.

I’ve read several books in this series. To date, I’ve enjoyed them all. This one was no different. Fast paced, and hard to put down. I highly recommend this book!

I absolutely love the Jon Reznick series, yet again an action packed book from start to finish. When a hacker he knows asks for his help as he's come across a top secret file and now his life is under threat, as is that of a whistle blower, the three of them try to stay alive while people in the CIA are trying to stop them at all costs. Martha Jons colleague and friend in the FBI helps him and we see yet again a hint of a future romance, I really hope so

This is the eighth book (nine if you include the novella) featuring the one man wrecking crew that is Jon Reznick the former US Delta Force operative. I have now read them all and they are all excellent. You can read them in any order (or as standalone books) although there are overarching storylines.

I am a big fan of these tales and this was no disappointment. A brave whistleblower, Rosalind Dyer, wants to testify in front of a Senate Committee after she uncovers the misappropriation of vast sums of government money and also that a number of people who found out the same thing have died in highly suspicious circumstances.

A powerful shadowy organisation with incredible political influence and power will stop at nothing to stop Dyer from testifying. The problem for them is that Jon Reznick becomes involved and will stop at nothing to bring them down.

There is something of James Patterson’s Alex Cross mixed with a bit of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher in the character of Jon Reznick. In other words Reznick is a brilliant, relentless bad-ass individual with a sense of justice who is not adverse to take any action necessary to bring down the bad guys.

The action builds in a perfect crescendo and the explosive ending was brutal and satisfying. FIve out of five for me for this book.

The eight book Reznick series has over 50,000 ratings on Goodreads at an average of 4.5. If you have not read a Reznick yet, go ahead, you are in for a treat, you can thank me later.

Fast paced thriller,full of bad guys and technology.At the end I would have liked a wee update on the two techno geeks.

If you have read any of the Jon Reznick series you know you are in for a good read. This books starts with one of Reznick’s old hacker buddies being targeted by the people who want to permanently silence him and anyone who gets in their way to keep their secrets hidden. The hacker reaches out to Reznick and the story takes off. Reznick’s moral compass always makes him make the right choice even though it puts him and others at great risk. I don’t want to spoil the plot any further but go ahead and pick this up for a good thriller.

Love the series of these book. They are fast paced with the theme of political conspiracy running throughout. The main character is endearing very much like jack teacher in the lee child books and Mitch rapp. Could not put it down and as good if not better than the others in this series

Another thrilling tale. I am always in awe of a writer who can take a character from book to book without the character loosing traits or becoming stale. Although this wouldn't be my favorite of thus series it is definitely still worth a read.

This is a great "at the edge of your seat" thriller. Jon Reznick receives a call from his hacker friend, Trevelle Williams. Trevelle has received from a NYC man a memo from a private security company which which says they need to assassinate an American woman, Rosalind Dyer, who works for the government in DC. She is about to testify to a Senate Committee about financial finagling in the military budget. Trevelle is on a Greyhound to NYC because two foreign speaking men entered his home, took all his computers, and killed his friend Fernandez, who was visiting. Reznick races to get to NYC, where he finds Trevelle's friend in NY hanging in his apartment. The NY police tell FBI Agent Myerstein that the man in NY was dead long before Reznick got there. Reznick then meets with Myerstein to explain what is happening.

Reznick gets Dyer to meet him and let him watch over her. Trevelle gives her a new phone so the bad guys can't track her. They go to the home of one of Reznick's old friends, and then to one of Trevelle's friends. They try to talk Dyer into turning herself in to the FBI for safety, but she really wants to testify, particularly for the other auditors who have been killed already. With the enemy closing in on them, can Reznick and Trevelle keep Dyer safe for one more day to testify?

I am SO happy that Trevelle finally gets his time! Trevelle is a hacker that has been helping Jon Reznick for years, sadly this time around he is the one caught up and with trouble at his door he turns to the one person who he knows will help him. When Jon receives a call from Trevelle he knows he has to help him but has no idea how deep the problems are. 

As with any case Jon gets involved in, of course it has to involve top level Government and in this case a key congressional witness named Rosalind Dyer. The same as any JB Turner book the pace is set at around 100 miles per hour and kind of stays that way until the last chapter (I am expecting nothing less with these books these days). 

Of course Jon decides to involve Meyerstein who works for the FBI and puts her in the usual position of being piggy in the middle. The key to all this is to get Rosalind Dyer to her hearing and expose the high level threats. I loved this book and this series is my 'go to' when I need a fast paced thriller. For some reason this story line wasn't quite as involved as others I have read but still a very satisfying read. As ever I will eagerly await the next book and would highly recommend this series.

As usual, this is a fast and easy read with great characters and plot. There's a clear timeline, lots of action and the dialogue is very good.

Always love a Jon Reznick book, always eagerly awaiting the next installment. This one does not disappoint...a great read which I recommend although I personally prefer to read books in order written they all work as stand alone novels too.

The Jon Resnick series continues in this action packed story. Jon may have tactics that aren't always kosher but I love that he's a true patriot. Trevelle has amazing hacking talents but his personality is annoying. It's sad to say that this story rings true in today's scene of corrupt members of the FBI and other higher up government officials. Looking forward to more in the series. Recommended!

Another great story in the Jon Reznik continuation series.
Every time I’m reading a new book it feels like actually seeing all the action on a screen and I’m always looking forward to it because it’s a great ability that not many writers have it and being on the edge of your seat at all times, turning the pages faster and faster just to read one more chapter it definitely makes you going up on my favourite authors list.
New characters, interesting plot and twists and turns, some unexpected and some predictable but necessary in my opinion, all together are adding up for a worthwhile couple of hours.
It’s compelling and it makes you think how far are some people willing to go and sacrifice for revealing the truth or taking the justice in their own hands with all the risks that are implied.
Some people are considered lucky to be still alive but who really knows what hides behind their facade? Any lost or grief is lived differently and I must admit that I like how the author is dealing with this topic and our main character.

Trevelle had his operation in an abandoned warehouse. Sitting and watching the sun come up at South Beach each day is where it felt like home. Reznick sometime did business with Trevelle a high level hacker..Now getting a call from Trevelle, he could tell he was upset, he needed him, could he meet him in New York. In seven years no one had gotten into his place so how did they. A file his friend wanted him to look at, was resending, got bumped off, and then started showing men getting into his home. What is on the file, that got a friend killed.
A Congressional woman Rosalind Dyer is a witness of a government cover up. is a target as is Trevelle. Reznick, with two hacker, has his work cut out to figure out where the file is coming from and who is behind it, before more are killed.

Book Review: Hard Target (Jon Reznick #8) by J.B. Turner

4.0 Stars.

The book starts off in Miami, a converted warehouse reminiscent of one such in "Burn Notice", home /fortress of burnt spy Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan).

Jon Reznick of Maine, former black ops operative and working for the FBI on selected classified investigations, never was a guy for flowery language nor does he have much use for rules, which he often flouts. He has family, lost loved ones and he gets hurt. He's flawed, he bleeds, he's foolhardy, and occasionally goofs up. Which is what makes him compelling.

This is the fourth book I've read of the series and what I find most enjoyable is the no-nonsense, pure adrenalin, high-octane action flowing seamlessly from one scene to the next with nary a dull moment. Each story is character driven and loaded with creativity - with a noticeable absence of political correctness, identity politics and those derangement syndromes which seem to be pervasive nowadays.

This installment deals with corruption at the highest levels of the U.S. military and the military industrial complex, as Reznick and comrades shepherd a vulnerable whistleblower to a congressional hearing against all odds, as all the stops are pulled by lethal assassins and their masters to silence the witness - with some assist, unwittingly, from his own side.

Pure adrenalin reading entertainment. Unputdownable. Read the novel in a day.

In Hard Target Reznick receives a call from a hacker friend who’s life is in danger. Loyal to a fault Reznick agrees to help but the problems soon mount.

If you like action thrillers then this is definitely a book for you. Recommended

This is your typical political thriller. The book flowed well with a great pace but it just lacked a little excitement in my opinion. It started off really well but started to drag a bit in the middle for me. I might’ve enjoyed this book a little bit more if I started the series at the beginning and had more of an investment in the main characters. I think folks who are invested more in the series well enjoy the story more than I did.

Another rip roaring thriller from Turner, the plot of which would make an excellent film. The author’s background in journalism and understanding of politics makes this a taut, tight read where we hope for the best, but know that not everything will go according to plan.

Hard Target is the eighth book in the Jon Reznick series about a tough-as former Delta operative/assassin who now works off-the-books for the FBI. These are fast paced action thrillers about political conspiracies that you don’t have to believe in to enjoy. Each one stands alone and relationships between the main characters don’t really change so there’s no need to read them in order - although I have, from the beginning.

Reznick’s friend Trevelle, an ex-NSA hacker, calls him for help when he narrowly escapes being executed because of a message sent to him to decode. It orders the assassination of Rosalind Dyer, who has been investigating misappropriation of funds at senior levels of government, and is about to testify. Other accountants have already been killed but Rosalind is determined to get the truth out there. Can Jon keep her safe from the powerful ex-CIA villain who is determined to take her out?

I’ve enjoyed all of these, especially the complicated dance between Reznick the renegade who’ll cross every line to get the job done, and elegant indefatigable FBI AD Martha Meyerstein who has to defend him and protect him from the law every time he leaps over that line. I can’t decide whether I want them to just bite the bullet an hook up - or if once they do the tension will be gone. I also liked Trevelle & Fifi - they are hackers not poodles, but they added some comic relief.

The plot was pretty straightforward and while the ending didn’t go how I wanted it to, otherwise there were few major surprises. Recommended for fans of Vince Flynn & Mark Dawson. A very intense read. Reznick I drawn into another high octane plot that will keep you on the edge of your seats. This is dirty politics at the highest level where the stakes are deadly. Jon gets a call from one of his friends who is in danger and as they dig the mess just keeps piling up. It leads to the highest levels of government and people are getting killed for what they know. He has to try and keep two of these people alive while staying ahead of the bad guys as well as the FBI. It becomes a game of cat and mouse as they stay on the move and try to stay one step ahead.

Hard Target is the eight book in the series, but the first one by this author that I have read. I was able to follow along with the book even though I hadn't read the previous books in the series. I would classical this as a political thriller, that was action packed from start to finish. Overall I found the book to be very well written, and one that kept you turning the pages.

Hard Target felt different, I'm not 100% sure why but it was just different enough to really breath some life into this series (not that I think it needed it). In the last few books Reznick has had to deal with threats on his daughter and his not-girlfriend... girlfriend. This one he's out to help Trevelle Williams, his hacker friend who is able to get him almost anything that he needs when a computer is involved.

Even as Turner was introducing the story in Hard Target I couldn't have predicted where it was going to end up. I thought that the addition of helping out a friend was going to be the story but that was just the tip of the iceberg.  Like the other stories in the Jon Reznick series - there is so much more than meets the eye.

I wasn't sure even as the story progressed exactly how it was going to end, but I wasn't even close to predicting the ending. I really thought that things were going to end up different but I should have known (anything more that I add here will be a spoiler). J.B. Turner is at the top of his game in Hard Target - writing an absolute page-turner. I couldn't put Hard Target down even if I'd wanted to. I realized that I only had an hour left, so I figured I would stay up and finish it... that was at 1am last night. Oops. I just couldn't wait to see what happened.

Another Jon Reznick thriller. This one involves a Whistle Blower who has information about corruption at the Pentagon. As usual this is action packed with many thrills and turns. It was very believable.

This is not an author i have read previously. I was pleasantly surprised to find this book well written and packed with action and delivered at a fast pace. A recommended read if you like this genre. You will find it hard to put his book down as you just want to turn the page as fast as you can read.

J.D. Turner brings out the big guns in this story about a whistleblower, a plot to destroy her, and what is needed to make sure the government is saved. This follows the pattern of the "Hard " books and you will be taken on a ride.

Hard Target is the eighth instalment in the former US Delta Force operative Jon Reznick series and although you'll want to catch up on the previous seven dangerous adventures at a later date it is not necessary to have read them beforehand to enjoy this one. It follows our intrepid hero as he embarks on another high-stakes game of cat and mouse. When former National Security Agency (NSA) asset Trevelle Williams, a top-level hacker, has been targeted by a would-be assassin after receiving an important encrypted code in a message he knows he needs protection. Luckily, their plan failed and he is alive to tell the tale. The message was an order of the assassination of Rosalind Dyer who is about to testify in court regarding government corruption and embezzlement. And it's not all talk no action as various other accounting staff who had been covertly uncovering government misdeeds were brutally killed in highly suspicious circumstances with no mercy. She will read her statement before the congressional committee but will Jon be able to keep this extremely important whistleblower safe from the ex-CIA hitman in order for her to give evidence?

Usually, by now, a series can be starting to show signs of flagging yet this was just as exhilarating and fresh feeling as the first-ever Jon Reznick thriller; it is a highly addictive, fast-paced and completely compulsive read in which plentiful action runs throughout and there's never a dull moment from first page to last. Reznick is a hard-as-nails protagonist who knows exactly what he's up to and has no qualms about doing what's necessary in a given situation. He truly gets into some dangerous predicaments but can always be relied upon for help and his loyalty is admirable. His heart is in the right place, he has a strong moral compass and rails against those who are corrupt and take advantage of other less fortunate people. It's an interesting political conspiracy thriller with a straightforward, logical plot and drama-filled chapters. I found it riveting from the very beginning and it carries on in a compelling fashion as the tension builds to a palpable level and things start to become nail-bitingly suspenseful. Another fast, pacy ride with Jon Reznick who starts out helping a friend and ends up with the usual cat and mouse involving top tier players and a national scandal. Mr Reznick leads a hectic life but you always feel you’re along there with him making for a good read.

There's a lot that I like about J.B.Turner's character Jon Reznick. While much is made about his detachment from normal life and other people, his actions show that he's quite loyal to and even dependent on a fairly wide circle of quirky friends, both lowly and high-placed.

Reznick is a former Delta Force operative who is now called on for "off the books" missions by the FBI. The themes are invariably geopolitical, but never "political," in a partisan sense. Unlike most gung-ho protagonists, Reznick has plenty of impulse control -- he just uses a different set of filters from most of us.

My nit-pick is about the dialogue, which is often stilted and repetitive. It doesn't stop me from reading the Reznick books,, it just leaves me with a lingering sense of disappointment.

Absolutely riveting book.
Rosalind works in Washington and has uncovered illegal money transactions taken from the defense funds. She has also found links to seven deaths, all individuals investigating or working on the books, killed for their silence but made to look like natural deaths. Rosalind, with the support of her family, has gathered evidence and is set to testify to the Senate as a whistle blower.
Simultaneously a hacker, Trevelle, was sent an encrypted file from a friend and asked to decode it. What he uncovers is a plot to have Roslind silenced. He reaches out to the only person he knows can help him, Jon Reznick, who occasionally does secret missions for the FBI. Working with the contact Jon has in the FBI, Trevelle and Jon race against the clock to keep Rosalind alive as she is determined to go through with her testimony.
When lies are uncovered, deceptions revealed, and plots discovered there will be a lot of questions in Washington, and hopefully a lot of answers.

Jon Reznick gets a call from a hacker, Trevelle, with whom he has worked in the past. He is in Miami and tells Reznick he needs his help. He had been living, with no problems, in a converted loft on Overtown and, while he was out having a 4 a.m. breakfast, saw on his home security system that his apartment had been broken into and his friend who had been visiting was brutally murdered. Also, all his electronics (excepting the laptop he had with him) were taken. Reznick and Trevelle meet up and Reznick learns that a woman named Dyer is on a hit list and also that the FBI is looking for her for removing security paperwork. She is a whistle blower who is scheduled to testify before a closed door hearing in Congress very soon about embezzlement in Pentagon funds occurring at the highest levels and also about the deaths of seven men who had learned the same facts she did. Reznick and Trevelle locate Dyer and convince her to come with them for her own protection. This is the beginning of Hard Target. The action is pretty much non-stop, the rationale complex. Reznick is hoping to convince her to turn herself in to the FBI and continually working toward that goal. It is well written and Reznick’s character is very obviously the result of his past. Trevelle Williams is a hacker and ex-NSA. While helping a hacker friend, he discovers a memo ordering Rosalind Dyer, a key congressional witness to a government cover-up, to be killed. This is the eighth book in the Jon Reznick thriller series, but the first one that I’ve read. I was hooked from the very beginning and didn’t want to stop reading, but little things like sleep and work forced me to. Hard Target was fast-paced with a lot of action and it was a quick read. I’m looking forward to reading the first seven books and any future books in the series!

Suspend your sense of belief and just enjoy the ride.

Everything is explained to exhaustively excessive detail, and there's way too much preaching about integrity and honesty. The cyber hackers are always successful at moving the characters to the next plot point. You'll either enjoy the protagonist and read all of the books in the series, or (like me) you'll move on after trying just one.

NetGalley, I'm glad that I have a habit of bookmarking a page before I put down my tablet. This file never opened up to the place I left off, but rather resumed with the book's title page and forced me to go to the bookmarks to get to my latest one. If it's deliberate, it's reader-hostile. If it's a glitch, it's with the latest version of iPadOS.

This book is amazing!! I read it not having read the rest of the series but plan on going back to read them soon. This book pulled me in from the beginning which makes it a great thriller. Highly recommend this book!

This novel is straightforward and fast paced and frankly, difficult to put down. It is a political thriller in the most strict sense of the word but with the added touch of technology / hacker themes, so it feels very modern and current.

The character development is good. I like that Rosalind Dyer is a strong, likeable woman. There are good philosophical elements in her story line. Would you be as brave as she is if you were in her position?

Jon Reznick reminds me a bit of Jack Reacher and Alex Cross -very likeable gentleman with a sense of justice, super smart and generally fun to read about.

This is the 8th novel in the Jon Reznick series, which I hadn’t read before. If this is anything to go by, I will definitely be reading the previous (and future!) installments.

Reznik is doing work on the side for the FBI and has acquired many useful skills thatnhenfinds very helpful. A young hacker friend contacts him after a shared, hacked email brings a hit squad to his door. Reznik helps him warn Rosalind, an accountant turned whistleblower on the corruption of the military big wigs. On the run from bad guys and trying to keep everyone alive uses a lot of Reznik's resources. He finds out who his friends are and who his enemies are also.
Characters, story line and setting is very engaging and keeps you waiting for the next adrenaline rush. My first book to read by J.B. Turner. Will definitely go back and read the rest of this series

Can Anyone Stop A Corrupt Government?

The government hides things they don’t want the public to know. Some say rogue government officials will kill anyone who threatens them or their self-serving programs. Treville Williams is a former NSA hacker, a very good one. When his place is ransacked by hooded thugs, killing the friend who was visiting him, he discovers a key witness in a deep-state cover-up is about to be executed. As he flees for his life he calls Jon Resnick for help. Although her life is in danger, Rosalind Dyer is determined to testify in a closed Senate hearing to expose the high-level corruption and financial gain by high-ranking government insiders. Jon and the hackers have their work cut out for them, keep her alive and deliver her to the hearing.

I found this storyline to be a bit different from the other Jon Resnick books in the series. The whole story revolves around protecting this witness and uncovering the attempts to assassinate her before they can succeed. And the bad guys are relentless, attempting time after time, only to be stopped and forced to try again.

We all know the government is corrupt it always has been. This book was different because it centered around keeping this witness safe from harm. Really good book.

This is a tough review for me. I have read most of the four and five star ratings and I cannot agree with these rankings. This book’s dialogue, with its pedestrian language, had me shaking my head. I cannot imagine high ranking government personnel and FBI big wigs, saying things like “gimme a break” and “are you kidding me?” When being told about a top secret plot within the government. The monotony and constant repetition of the vapid conversations among the characters, resulted in my one star rating. Thank you Netgalley and Amazon Publishing UK for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

Trevelle Williams is an extraordinary hacker.  But he may have gotten too deep into this one.  They only place he knows to turn is to Jon Reznick, a former special ops guy who contracts sometimes with the FBI.  They find out that someone in the US government wants to kill Rosalind Dyer, a whistleblower getting ready to testify before the Senate.  They don't want her blowing the whistle of what they are doing.

This was a pretty good read, but there are some language issues.  The story moves, but it is scary.  Are there really things like this going on inside our government and military?  I hope not, but the daily news makes me more concerned as I hear it.  

I would recommend this if you are looking for a good read to keep you interested.

This was an action-packed thriller. There was plenty of action from the very first page. I got half way through the book and thought this would make a good series. It was not until I finished the book that I found out there are several previous books in this series. However, as I had not read any of the previous books, it did not detract from the enjoyment of reading this as a standalone book. Some of the early dialogue was a little bit cliché and could possibly have been written differently, but it was still good. Now I know there are previous books by this same author in this series, I will be seeking them out and reading them. Overall a good, solid read.

As an avid read of the thriller genre, I don’t know how I could have missed the Jon Reznick series from author J. B. Turner—I must have been under a rock all these years. . Thanks to NetGalley for giving me an early reader copy and, again, introducing me to another wonderful author.

Whistle blower, hackers, government fraud all combine into a complex plot that is easy to follow and will keep on the edge of your seat. Pulled into what becomes a harrowing situation by a hacker friend who Jon feels he owes, both are soon fighting for their lives to enable a government employee to testify before a senate committee This pulls at your conscience over the whistleblower debate and at book’s end you might still be wondering if they are the good guy or the bad guy. Enjoy this well written book.

This book defines the thriller genre! In Hard Target, book 8 in the Jon Reznick series, Reznick sets out to warn a whistleblower, who’s preparing to testify before congress, that she is targeted for assassination by a private security firm hired by the government. He empathizes with the women’s desire to do the right thing and, as a result, does what he can to defend her. Of course, that defense involves taking out a few assassins and blowing up the plane that the head of the security company is piloting. Luckily for Reznick, he is protected by the assistant director of the FBI who happens to be a close friend.

I love action thrillers like Hard Target and am dismayed that I hadn’t come across this series sooner. Book 8 was the first in the series that I read. What I can say with certainty is that this book stands alone and can be read without any foreknowledge of the characters.

Hard Target’s action made it impossible to put down. Neglecting more important responsibilities, I finished the book in one sitting.

This story has some twists and lots of action. It didn't end the way I thought it would, but is a good story. When Rosalind is targeted because she is going to testify to congress about some high profile corruption, Reznick gets involved and wants to help her get there to testify. He knows that she likely won't make it, but she is trying to do the right thing, so he will help her. He gets involved because a friend is sent a file to decode and it snowballs from there. Will Rosalind be able to testify? He only needs to keep her safe for a couple of days, will it happen?

I enjoyed the pace of the book and all, this book lacked the excitement though. I was really wanting more from this book.

Jon Reznick is a believable government agent whose mission involves a familiar tale in an exotic locale. The mission is a now familiar theme of a government cover-up of a massacre to achieve government ends. A good tale.
