Hard Target

While I enjoy this series and it's an automatic read for me I saw the ending coming way before the book got there and thought it was very obvious. That being said it was a heck of a journey introducing some new characters who were an exciting edition. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this book or the series as it's always a great read. Jon Reznick is definitely one of my favorite characters.

I have thoroughly enjoyed all of the Jon Reznick series and this one is excellent. Fast paced from the start to the end. Some interesting new characters introduced that will hopefully appear in future books.

J.D. Turner has a hit with Hard Target. It kept me reading all day as I had to know what was coming next. It's a suspense thriller about corruption at the top of the Pentagon, all aided by a mystery man with easy access to the most powerful figures. Jon Reznick is the lead good guy, assisted by two solid hackers. (They don't quite get their due like Reznick does.) We know that good guy stories like this usually, well, always, go the way the good guy wants them to, but the ride was fantastic. Thanks, NetGalley, and the publisher for the ARC.

I’ve read several books in this series. To date, I’ve enjoyed them all. This one was no different. Fast paced, and hard to put down. I highly recommend this book!

I absolutely love the Jon Reznick series, yet again an action packed book from start to finish. When a hacker he knows asks for his help as he's come across a top secret file and now his life is under threat, as is that of a whistle blower, the three of them try to stay alive while people in the CIA are trying to stop them at all costs. Martha Jons colleague and friend in the FBI helps him and we see yet again a hint of a future romance, I really hope so

This is the eighth book (nine if you include the novella) featuring the one man wrecking crew that is Jon Reznick the former US Delta Force operative. I have now read them all and they are all excellent. You can read them in any order (or as standalone books) although there are overarching storylines.

I am a big fan of these tales and this was no disappointment. A brave whistleblower, Rosalind Dyer, wants to testify in front of a Senate Committee after she uncovers the misappropriation of vast sums of government money and also that a number of people who found out the same thing have died in highly suspicious circumstances.

A powerful shadowy organisation with incredible political influence and power will stop at nothing to stop Dyer from testifying. The problem for them is that Jon Reznick becomes involved and will stop at nothing to bring them down.

There is something of James Patterson’s Alex Cross mixed with a bit of Lee Child’s Jack Reacher in the character of Jon Reznick. In other words Reznick is a brilliant, relentless bad-ass individual with a sense of justice who is not adverse to take any action necessary to bring down the bad guys.

The action builds in a perfect crescendo and the explosive ending was brutal and satisfying. FIve out of five for me for this book.

The eight book Reznick series has over 50,000 ratings on Goodreads at an average of 4.5. If you have not read a Reznick yet, go ahead, you are in for a treat, you can thank me later.

Fast paced thriller,full of bad guys and technology.At the end I would have liked a wee update on the two techno geeks.

From the very first page I was totally gripped with such a compelling story. The main character Jon Reznick is not unlike a boiled sweet with a soft centre, hard on the outside and without a conscious but get to the centre and he has a heart of gold and a man of his word with very strong principles. It was one of those rare reads that when ever I returned to the book I was instantly able to recall the story up to that point which only happens when the novel is gripping. What a brilliant feature film this story would make, roll on the next book in the series as I can’t wait to catch up with Jon’s latest adventure.

If you have read any of the Jon Reznick series you know you are in for a good read. This books starts with one of Reznick’s old hacker buddies being targeted by the people who want to permanently silence him and anyone who gets in their way to keep their secrets hidden. The hacker reaches out to Reznick and the story takes off. Reznick’s moral compass always makes him make the right choice even though it puts him and others at great risk. I don’t want to spoil the plot any further but go ahead and pick this up for a good thriller.

Love the series of these book. They are fast paced with the theme of political conspiracy running throughout. The main character is endearing very much like jack teacher in the lee child books and Mitch rapp. Could not put it down and as good if not better than the others in this series

Another thrilling tale. I am always in awe of a writer who can take a character from book to book without the character loosing traits or becoming stale. Although this wouldn't be my favorite of thus series it is definitely still worth a read.

This is a great "at the edge of your seat" thriller. Jon Reznick receives a call from his hacker friend, Trevelle Williams. Trevelle has received from a NYC man a memo from a private security company which which says they need to assassinate an American woman, Rosalind Dyer, who works for the government in DC. She is about to testify to a Senate Committee about financial finagling in the military budget. Trevelle is on a Greyhound to NYC because two foreign speaking men entered his home, took all his computers, and killed his friend Fernandez, who was visiting. Reznick races to get to NYC, where he finds Trevelle's friend in NY hanging in his apartment. The NY police tell FBI Agent Myerstein that the man in NY was dead long before Reznick got there. Reznick then meets with Myerstein to explain what is happening.

Reznick gets Dyer to meet him and let him watch over her. Trevelle gives her a new phone so the bad guys can't track her. They go to the home of one of Reznick's old friends, and then to one of Trevelle's friends. They try to talk Dyer into turning herself in to the FBI for safety, but she really wants to testify, particularly for the other auditors who have been killed already. With the enemy closing in on them, can Reznick and Trevelle keep Dyer safe for one more day to testify?

I am SO happy that Trevelle finally gets his time! Trevelle is a hacker that has been helping Jon Reznick for years, sadly this time around he is the one caught up and with trouble at his door he turns to the one person who he knows will help him. When Jon receives a call from Trevelle he knows he has to help him but has no idea how deep the problems are. 

As with any case Jon gets involved in, of course it has to involve top level Government and in this case a key congressional witness named Rosalind Dyer. The same as any JB Turner book the pace is set at around 100 miles per hour and kind of stays that way until the last chapter (I am expecting nothing less with these books these days). 

Of course Jon decides to involve Meyerstein who works for the FBI and puts her in the usual position of being piggy in the middle. The key to all this is to get Rosalind Dyer to her hearing and expose the high level threats. I loved this book and this series is my 'go to' when I need a fast paced thriller. For some reason this story line wasn't quite as involved as others I have read but still a very satisfying read. As ever I will eagerly await the next book and would highly recommend this series.

As usual, this is a fast and easy read with great characters and plot. There's a clear timeline, lots of action and the dialogue is very good.

Always love a Jon Reznick book, always eagerly awaiting the next installment. This one does not disappoint...a great read which I recommend although I personally prefer to read books in order written they all work as stand alone novels too.

The Jon Resnick series continues in this action packed story. Jon may have tactics that aren't always kosher but I love that he's a true patriot. Trevelle has amazing hacking talents but his personality is annoying. It's sad to say that this story rings true in today's scene of corrupt members of the FBI and other higher up government officials. Looking forward to more in the series. Recommended!

Another great story in the Jon Reznik continuation series.
Every time I’m reading a new book it feels like actually seeing all the action on a screen and I’m always looking forward to it because it’s a great ability that not many writers have it and being on the edge of your seat at all times, turning the pages faster and faster just to read one more chapter it definitely makes you going up on my favourite authors list.
New characters, interesting plot and twists and turns, some unexpected and some predictable but necessary in my opinion, all together are adding up for a worthwhile couple of hours.
It’s compelling and it makes you think how far are some people willing to go and sacrifice for revealing the truth or taking the justice in their own hands with all the risks that are implied.
Some people are considered lucky to be still alive but who really knows what hides behind their facade? Any lost or grief is lived differently and I must admit that I like how the author is dealing with this topic and our main character.

Trevelle had his operation in an abandoned warehouse. Sitting and watching the sun come up at South Beach each day is where it felt like home. Reznick sometime did business with Trevelle a high level hacker..Now getting a call from Trevelle, he could tell he was upset, he needed him, could he meet him in New York. In seven years no one had gotten into his place so how did they. A file his friend wanted him to look at, was resending, got bumped off, and then started showing men getting into his home. What is on the file, that got a friend killed.
A Congressional woman Rosalind Dyer is a witness of a government cover up. is a target as is Trevelle. Reznick, with two hacker, has his work cut out to figure out where the file is coming from and who is behind it, before more are killed.

Book Review: Hard Target (Jon Reznick #8) by J.B. Turner

4.0 Stars.

The book starts off in Miami, a converted warehouse reminiscent of one such in "Burn Notice", home /fortress of burnt spy Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan).

Jon Reznick of Maine, former black ops operative and working for the FBI on selected classified investigations, never was a guy for flowery language nor does he have much use for rules, which he often flouts. He has family, lost loved ones and he gets hurt. He's flawed, he bleeds, he's foolhardy, and occasionally goofs up. Which is what makes him compelling.

This is the fourth book I've read of the series and what I find most enjoyable is the no-nonsense, pure adrenalin, high-octane action flowing seamlessly from one scene to the next with nary a dull moment. Each story is character driven and loaded with creativity - with a noticeable absence of political correctness, identity politics and those derangement syndromes which seem to be pervasive nowadays.

This installment deals with corruption at the highest levels of the U.S. military and the military industrial complex, as Reznick and comrades shepherd a vulnerable whistleblower to a congressional hearing against all odds, as all the stops are pulled by lethal assassins and their masters to silence the witness - with some assist, unwittingly, from his own side.

Pure adrenalin reading entertainment. Unputdownable. Read the novel in a day.

In Hard Target Reznick receives a call from a hacker friend who’s life is in danger. Loyal to a fault Reznick agrees to help but the problems soon mount.

If you like action thrillers then this is definitely a book for you. Recommended

This is your typical political thriller. The book flowed well with a great pace but it just lacked a little excitement in my opinion. It started off really well but started to drag a bit in the middle for me. I might’ve enjoyed this book a little bit more if I started the series at the beginning and had more of an investment in the main characters. I think folks who are invested more in the series well enjoy the story more than I did.

This was my first J B Turner book and found it well written if a little disappointing and immediately forgettable. The story moves at a good pace as a thriller should, I just wanted something more - like a big reveal or twist to give the book impact. As it was, I felt I'd had an enjoyable read, but hadn't been wowed by the story.
To be honest I didn't warm to Reznick which didn't help. I appreciate that this is book 8 of the series and he must have been fleshed out as a character in previous stories, however without this depth I just didn't have an image of the guy or any empathy.
For fans of JB Turner, this is undoubtedly a hit. For anyone new, then I wouldn't recommend it. Perhaps go back to the first in the series. .

Another rip roaring thriller from Turner, the plot of which would make an excellent film. The author’s background in journalism and understanding of politics makes this a taut, tight read where we hope for the best, but know that not everything will go according to plan.

Hard Target is the eighth book in the Jon Reznick series about a tough-as former Delta operative/assassin who now works off-the-books for the FBI. These are fast paced action thrillers about political conspiracies that you don’t have to believe in to enjoy. Each one stands alone and relationships between the main characters don’t really change so there’s no need to read them in order - although I have, from the beginning.

Reznick’s friend Trevelle, an ex-NSA hacker, calls him for help when he narrowly escapes being executed because of a message sent to him to decode. It orders the assassination of Rosalind Dyer, who has been investigating misappropriation of funds at senior levels of government, and is about to testify. Other accountants have already been killed but Rosalind is determined to get the truth out there. Can Jon keep her safe from the powerful ex-CIA villain who is determined to take her out?

I’ve enjoyed all of these, especially the complicated dance between Reznick the renegade who’ll cross every line to get the job done, and elegant indefatigable FBI AD Martha Meyerstein who has to defend him and protect him from the law every time he leaps over that line. I can’t decide whether I want them to just bite the bullet an hook up - or if once they do the tension will be gone. I also liked Trevelle & Fifi - they are hackers not poodles, but they added some comic relief.

The plot was pretty straightforward and while the ending didn’t go how I wanted it to, otherwise there were few major surprises. Recommended for fans of Vince Flynn & Mark Dawson. A very intense read. Reznick I drawn into another high octane plot that will keep you on the edge of your seats. This is dirty politics at the highest level where the stakes are deadly. Jon gets a call from one of his friends who is in danger and as they dig the mess just keeps piling up. It leads to the highest levels of government and people are getting killed for what they know. He has to try and keep two of these people alive while staying ahead of the bad guys as well as the FBI. It becomes a game of cat and mouse as they stay on the move and try to stay one step ahead.

I don't feel like I've just read a bad book. I feel like I've just read a bad unproduced screenplay, since "Hard Target" is 90% dialogue and the characters speak in plot points ("Hi, Jon, glad you answered the phone so I can tell you that Max Charles has high-ranking connections in both the White House and the Pentagon and is connected to CIA death squads operating in Guatemala in the late 1980's"). Granted, I haven't read any of the previous books in this series.. I don't need to. Literally. They're summarized along the way ("Did I ever thank you for saving my life after the Russian mob abducted me?"). I read plenty of thrillers. I I read a lot of spy novels. "Hard Target" combines the worst traits of both: the antiseptic violence of the former and the dry expository passages of the latter. But both, at least, offer a twist and Mr. Turner doesn't provide any. Hard to imagine there's an audience for this book.

Hard Target is the eight book in the series, but the first one by this author that I have read. I was able to follow along with the book even though I hadn't read the previous books in the series. I would classical this as a political thriller, that was action packed from start to finish. Overall I found the book to be very well written, and one that kept you turning the pages.

Hard Target felt different, I'm not 100% sure why but it was just different enough to really breath some life into this series (not that I think it needed it). In the last few books Reznick has had to deal with threats on his daughter and his not-girlfriend... girlfriend. This one he's out to help Trevelle Williams, his hacker friend who is able to get him almost anything that he needs when a computer is involved.

Even as Turner was introducing the story in Hard Target I couldn't have predicted where it was going to end up. I thought that the addition of helping out a friend was going to be the story but that was just the tip of the iceberg.  Like the other stories in the Jon Reznick series - there is so much more than meets the eye.

I wasn't sure even as the story progressed exactly how it was going to end, but I wasn't even close to predicting the ending. I really thought that things were going to end up different but I should have known (anything more that I add here will be a spoiler). J.B. Turner is at the top of his game in Hard Target - writing an absolute page-turner. I couldn't put Hard Target down even if I'd wanted to. I realized that I only had an hour left, so I figured I would stay up and finish it... that was at 1am last night. Oops. I just couldn't wait to see what happened.

Another Jon Reznick thriller. This one involves a Whistle Blower who has information about corruption at the Pentagon. As usual this is action packed with many thrills and turns. It was very believable.

This is not an author i have read previously. I was pleasantly surprised to find this book well written and packed with action and delivered at a fast pace. A recommended read if you like this genre. You will find it hard to put his book down as you just want to turn the page as fast as you can read.

J.D. Turner brings out the big guns in this story about a whistleblower, a plot to destroy her, and what is needed to make sure the government is saved. This follows the pattern of the "Hard " books and you will be taken on a ride.

Hard Target is the eighth instalment in the former US Delta Force operative Jon Reznick series and although you'll want to catch up on the previous seven dangerous adventures at a later date it is not necessary to have read them beforehand to enjoy this one. It follows our intrepid hero as he embarks on another high-stakes game of cat and mouse. When former National Security Agency (NSA) asset Trevelle Williams, a top-level hacker, has been targeted by a would-be assassin after receiving an important encrypted code in a message he knows he needs protection. Luckily, their plan failed and he is alive to tell the tale. The message was an order of the assassination of Rosalind Dyer who is about to testify in court regarding government corruption and embezzlement. And it's not all talk no action as various other accounting staff who had been covertly uncovering government misdeeds were brutally killed in highly suspicious circumstances with no mercy. She will read her statement before the congressional committee but will Jon be able to keep this extremely important whistleblower safe from the ex-CIA hitman in order for her to give evidence?

Usually, by now, a series can be starting to show signs of flagging yet this was just as exhilarating and fresh feeling as the first-ever Jon Reznick thriller; it is a highly addictive, fast-paced and completely compulsive read in which plentiful action runs throughout and there's never a dull moment from first page to last. Reznick is a hard-as-nails protagonist who knows exactly what he's up to and has no qualms about doing what's necessary in a given situation. He truly gets into some dangerous predicaments but can always be relied upon for help and his loyalty is admirable. His heart is in the right place, he has a strong moral compass and rails against those who are corrupt and take advantage of other less fortunate people. It's an interesting political conspiracy thriller with a straightforward, logical plot and drama-filled chapters. I found it riveting from the very beginning and it carries on in a compelling fashion as the tension builds to a palpable level and things start to become nail-bitingly suspenseful. Another fast, pacy ride with Jon Reznick who starts out helping a friend and ends up with the usual cat and mouse involving top tier players and a national scandal. Mr Reznick leads a hectic life but you always feel you’re along there with him making for a good read.

There's a lot that I like about J.B.Turner's character Jon Reznick. While much is made about his detachment from normal life and other people, his actions show that he's quite loyal to and even dependent on a fairly wide circle of quirky friends, both lowly and high-placed.

Reznick is a former Delta Force operative who is now called on for "off the books" missions by the FBI. The themes are invariably geopolitical, but never "political," in a partisan sense. Unlike most gung-ho protagonists, Reznick has plenty of impulse control -- he just uses a different set of filters from most of us.

My nit-pick is about the dialogue, which is often stilted and repetitive. It doesn't stop me from reading the Reznick books,, it just leaves me with a lingering sense of disappointment.

Absolutely riveting book.
Rosalind works in Washington and has uncovered illegal money transactions taken from the defense funds. She has also found links to seven deaths, all individuals investigating or working on the books, killed for their silence but made to look like natural deaths. Rosalind, with the support of her family, has gathered evidence and is set to testify to the Senate as a whistle blower.
Simultaneously a hacker, Trevelle, was sent an encrypted file from a friend and asked to decode it. What he uncovers is a plot to have Roslind silenced. He reaches out to the only person he knows can help him, Jon Reznick, who occasionally does secret missions for the FBI. Working with the contact Jon has in the FBI, Trevelle and Jon race against the clock to keep Rosalind alive as she is determined to go through with her testimony.
When lies are uncovered, deceptions revealed, and plots discovered there will be a lot of questions in Washington, and hopefully a lot of answers.

Jon Reznick gets a call from a hacker, Trevelle, with whom he has worked in the past. He is in Miami and tells Reznick he needs his help. He had been living, with no problems, in a converted loft on Overtown and, while he was out having a 4 a.m. breakfast, saw on his home security system that his apartment had been broken into and his friend who had been visiting was brutally murdered. Also, all his electronics (excepting the laptop he had with him) were taken. Reznick and Trevelle meet up and Reznick learns that a woman named Dyer is on a hit list and also that the FBI is looking for her for removing security paperwork. She is a whistle blower who is scheduled to testify before a closed door hearing in Congress very soon about embezzlement in Pentagon funds occurring at the highest levels and also about the deaths of seven men who had learned the same facts she did. Reznick and Trevelle locate Dyer and convince her to come with them for her own protection. This is the beginning of Hard Target. The action is pretty much non-stop, the rationale complex. Reznick is hoping to convince her to turn herself in to the FBI and continually working toward that goal. It is well written and Reznick’s character is very obviously the result of his past. Trevelle Williams is a hacker and ex-NSA. While helping a hacker friend, he discovers a memo ordering Rosalind Dyer, a key congressional witness to a government cover-up, to be killed. Everyone that knows about the cover-up and memo start dying. Trevelle turns to Jon Reznick who is the only person that can save him and help save Rosalind.

This is the eighth book in the Jon Reznick thriller series, but the first one that I’ve read. I was hooked from the very beginning and didn’t want to stop reading, but little things like sleep and work forced me to. Hard Target was fast-paced with a lot of action and it was a quick read. I’m looking forward to reading the first seven books and any future books in the series!

Suspend your sense of belief and just enjoy the ride.

Everything is explained to exhaustively excessive detail, and there's way too much preaching about integrity and honesty. The cyber hackers are always successful at moving the characters to the next plot point. You'll either enjoy the protagonist and read all of the books in the series, or (like me) you'll move on after trying just one.

NetGalley, I'm glad that I have a habit of bookmarking a page before I put down my tablet. This file never opened up to the place I left off, but rather resumed with the book's title page and forced me to go to the bookmarks to get to my latest one. If it's deliberate, it's reader-hostile. If it's a glitch, it's with the latest version of iPadOS.

This book is amazing!! I read it not having read the rest of the series but plan on going back to read them soon. This book pulled me in from the beginning which makes it a great thriller. Highly recommend this book!

Jon Reznick is contacted by Trevelle Williams who is a hacker but has helped Jon out in the past. Trevelle's home is broken into and his friend killed. This novel is straightforward and fast paced and frankly, difficult to put down. It is a political thriller in the most strict sense of the word but with the added touch of technology / hacker themes, so it feels very modern and current.

The character development is good. I like that Rosalind Dyer is a strong, likeable woman. There are good philosophical elements in her story line. Would you be as brave as she is if you were in her position?

Jon Reznick reminds me a bit of Jack Reacher and Alex Cross -very likeable gentleman with a sense of justice, super smart and generally fun to read about.

This is the 8th novel in the Jon Reznick series, which I hadn’t read before. If this is anything to go by, I will definitely be reading the previous (and future!) installments.

Reznik is doing work on the side for the FBI and has acquired many useful skills thatnhenfinds very helpful. A young hacker friend contacts him after a shared, hacked email brings a hit squad to his door. Reznik helps him warn Rosalind, an accountant turned whistleblower on the corruption of the military big wigs. On the run from bad guys and trying to keep everyone alive uses a lot of Reznik's resources. He finds out who his friends are and who his enemies are also.
Characters, story line and setting is very engaging and keeps you waiting for the next adrenaline rush. My first book to read by J.B. Turner. Will definitely go back and read the rest of this series

Can Anyone Stop A Corrupt Government?

The government hides things they don’t want the public to know. Some say rogue government officials will kill anyone who threatens them or their self-serving programs. Treville Williams is a former NSA hacker, a very good one. When his place is ransacked by hooded thugs, killing the friend who was visiting him, he discovers a key witness in a deep-state cover-up is about to be executed. As he flees for his life he calls Jon Resnick for help. Although her life is in danger, Rosalind Dyer is determined to testify in a closed Senate hearing to expose the high-level corruption and financial gain by high-ranking government insiders. Jon and the hackers have their work cut out for them, keep her alive and deliver her to the hearing.

I found this storyline to be a bit different from the other Jon Resnick books in the series. The whole story revolves around protecting this witness and uncovering the attempts to assassinate her before they can succeed. And the bad guys are relentless, attempting time after time, only to be stopped and forced to try again.

We all know the government is corrupt it always has been. This book was different because it centered around keeping this witness safe from harm. Really good book.

Jon Reznick left me breathless yet again. He is such a real guy who finds himself in crazy circumstances. This book is a mixture of action and intrigue with some romance thrown in for good measure.

This one added a little bit more insight into his personal life and I am looking forward to seeing where the next edition in the series takes us.

I didn't get much work done after I picked this one up and I bet you won't either. Definitely a great summer back porch/deck/poolside read.

This is a tough review for me. I have read most of the four and five star ratings and I cannot agree with these rankings. This book’s dialogue, with its pedestrian language, had me shaking my head. I cannot imagine high ranking government personnel and FBI big wigs, saying things like “gimme a break” and “are you kidding me?” When being told about a top secret plot within the government. The monotony and constant repetition of the vapid conversations among the characters, resulted in my one star rating. Trevelle Williams is an extraordinary hacker.  But he may have gotten too deep into this one.  They only place he knows to turn is to Jon Reznick, a former special ops guy who contracts sometimes with the FBI.  They find out that someone in the US government wants to kill Rosalind Dyer, a whistleblower getting ready to testify before the Senate.  They don't want her blowing the whistle of what they are doing.

This was a pretty good read, but there are some language issues.  The story moves, but it is scary.  Are there really things like this going on inside our government and military?  I hope not, but the daily news makes me more concerned as I hear it.  

I would recommend this if you are looking for a good read to keep you interested.

This was an action-packed thriller. There was plenty of action from the very first page. I got half way through the book and thought this would make a good series. It was not until I finished the book that I found out there are several previous books in this series. However, as I had not read any of the previous books, it did not detract from the enjoyment of reading this as a standalone book. Some of the early dialogue was a little bit cliché and could possibly have been written differently, but it was still good. Now I know there are previous books by this same author in this series, I will be seeking them out and reading them. Overall a good, solid read.

As an avid read of the thriller genre, I don’t know how I could have missed the Jon Reznick series from author J. B. Turner—I must have been under a rock all these years. . Thanks to NetGalley for giving me an early reader copy and, again, introducing me to another wonderful author.

Whistle blower, hackers, government fraud all combine into a complex plot that is easy to follow and will keep on the edge of your seat. Pulled into what becomes a harrowing situation by a hacker friend who Jon feels he owes, both are soon fighting for their lives to enable a government employee to testify before a senate committee This pulls at your conscience over the whistleblower debate and at book’s end you might still be wondering if they are the good guy or the bad guy. Enjoy this well written book.

This book defines the thriller genre! In Hard Target, book 8 in the Jon Reznick series, Reznick sets out to warn a whistleblower, who’s preparing to testify before congress, that she is targeted for assassination by a private security firm hired by the government. He empathizes with the women’s desire to do the right thing and, as a result, does what he can to defend her. Of course, that defense involves taking out a few assassins and blowing up the plane that the head of the security company is piloting. Luckily for Reznick, he is protected by the assistant director of the FBI who happens to be a close friend.

I love action thrillers like Hard Target and am dismayed that I hadn’t come across this series sooner. Book 8 was the first in the series that I read. What I can say with certainty is that this book stands alone and can be read without any foreknowledge of the characters.

Hard Target’s action made it impossible to put down. Neglecting more important responsibilities, I finished the book in one sitting.

This story has some twists and lots of action. It didn't end the way I thought it would, but is a good story. When Rosalind is targeted because she is going to testify to congress about some high profile corruption, Reznick gets involved and wants to help her get there to testify. He knows that she likely won't make it, but she is trying to do the right thing, so he will help her. He gets involved because a friend is sent a file to decode and it snowballs from there. Will Rosalind be able to testify? He only needs to keep her safe for a couple of days, will it happen?

I enjoyed the pace of the book and all, this book lacked the excitement though. I was really wanting more from this book.

An excellent story that is well written that has strong, well developed characters. I give this book 5 well deserved stars and a strong recommendation.

I enjoyed the book. The action moved along, the characters were well-delineated, the dialogue was realistic, etc. The death of one of the key characters was unexpected and was a more realistic outcome than if the character had been saved at the last minute. I think the only drawback to the book is that I have met these types of characters and read similar plots before in other books. So not too original but well done overall.

Jon Reznick is a believable government agent whose mission involves a familiar tale in an exotic locale. The mission is a now familiar theme of a government cover-up of a massacre to achieve government ends. A good tale.

A good fast moving story on a somewhat tired theme of high level government corruption and cover ups.

Fantastic page-turner! My first JB Turner novel, I enjoyed the pace of the story and love the characters. Ready for the next one! Highly recommend. Thank you!

In Hard Target, Jon gets a call for help from his friend and hacker Travelle Williams. Travelle’s life is in danger and they discover its connected to a plan to assassinate a government whistleblower (Rosalind Dyer). There are shadowy government officials, mercenaries, and lots of corruption.

Hard Target definitely had lots of action. My heart was racing much of the book. Travelle and Fifi are the most likable characters and you hope all parties are vindicated in the end. One of the biggest challenges I had was that quite a few chapters felt repetitive. The same conversations about Rosalind’s commitment to her cause were being had over and over again that it started to feel like filler and the book began to drag. Some of the violence also seemed rather gratuitous which may or may not be common in this genre. I’d give content warnings for violence and language.


Overall, if action books (or movies for that matter) are your thing, you’ll probably like this book. You’ll want to see what happens to these characters and the ending definitely has some surprises.

I wasn't too worried when I downloaded this book and noticed that it was #18 in a series. I took that to be a good sign that if there were 17 others, I may miss out on some earlier character development or backstories, but that I could jump in easily enough. This is a fun and fast paced read. The story takes you from Florida to New York, to DC, so there's movement geographically along with the plot. The story wasn't cliched or predictable, but also not too wildly outrageous. I'd call this book perfect for a weekend or beach read.

This was the eighth book in this series, I had not read the 7 prior, but had no problem following book.
Jon Reznick was contacted by Trevelle William's after receiving an encrypted message about a Rosalind Dyer. She was wanted dead due to having information pertaining to the government, also about linking 7 deaths, of people who had also come across this information. Travellers, Rosalind, and Jon all are in hiding until Rosalind is able to testify, and not wanting to get killed or taken into custody being a whistleblower. This story is fast paced, and you get to know the characters, and root for them that it will all work out. My only dislike was the repetitiveness of certain conversations. I really enjoyed Reznick, and will definitely read some of this author's previous books.

J.B. Turner knows how to write a page-turning thriller and this eighth installation in the series about Jon Reznick is no exception.
This time around, Reznick is called upon to help his hacker friend from Miami who has helped him on numerous occasions in his past adventures, and suddenly Reznick finds himself on the run with the hacker as well as with a government whistleblower about to testify before Congress about large-scale corruption high up in the Pentagon echelons.
The story is more predictable than in the past books, and the "let's do what's right rather than what's easy" thing gets a little nausea-inducing this time around. Furthermore, the whole "only one person in the FBI trusts Reznick and gets in trouble for doing so" routine is also getting a little tiresome.
But, I was still entertained by this book that just barely makes the fourth star in the rating. This eighth book is not an ideal place to start reading this series, so an old-fashioned chronological approach is recommended.

This was such an exciting and engaging read! It captured my attention from the very beginning and kept me invested the entire time.

In Hard Target, we follow Jon Reznick, a black ops specialist, as he gets pulled in to a crazy whirlwind of events that include murder, espionage, and corrupt government that all starts with a friend reaching out for help. This friend, Trevelle, is a hacker who is sent a file to decrypt - but the second he receives the file, one of his friends who is staying with him is murdered. This leads him to reach out to Jon, as they have previously worked together, and they learn that the file Trevelle was sent was a contract to assassinate an American citizen. We are swept along this fast paced story as they find, warn and decide to help the target, and start to uncover that this assassination is just the tip of the iceberg to this story.

I genuinely enjoyed this book! It is a total page turner that I could not put down. This is book 8 in the series, but when I stumbled upon it I didn't know that and this book definitely made me want to ( and I definitely will) read the rest!
That being said, it is a great stand-alone book. It made references to events and characters clearly from earlier in the series, but not so much that I felt I was missing anything at all!

Something I appreciated in this book was how much Reznick suggested to the other characters to reach out to the FBI and work with them (because of the specific situations in this book), instead of completely running off and going rogue. From my experience with this genre, protagonists (if not in the perspective of an agent or detective) typically avoid the law/government at all costs and then the story turns into something completely far fetched and unimaginable - which then just becomes less enjoyable. By having Reznick suggest they work with the FBI, it provided the chance for the characters to develop more and for the readers to see more than just another out of control story.

Ultimately, the ending was a little expected, however some of the events just prior to the finale completely shocked me and I was NOT ready, haha. The characters are likable, and do feel realistic - if this were to happen in reality, their reactions are fairly believable and understandable - some situations felt a little forced/unrealistic, but not so much that it deterred me from reading.
If you enjoy spy thrillers, conspiracy theories, and espionage stories, this is for you!

Action, edge of your seat suspense and a thrilling ride. This describes all of Mr. Turner's work. A master of spine chilling suspense that will you wanting more. Hard Target is another great addition to his growing accomplishments. A must read for Jon Reznick fans.

When I started reading I did not know it was 8 in the series. This book was good as a stand alone book and I look forward to reading the first book. Full of action, tension, and conflict. Once I started reading I could hardly put the book down! The only downfall for me personally was the language. I read a lot of mystery, fiction, ect. and prefer to read without all the language.
This political thriller will have you rethinking everything you know about the US military-industrial complex and corruption in Washington DC. Is there really this much corruption? How high does it go?

Jon Reznick, a sometime consultant for the FBI gets involved in protecting a whistleblower Rosalind Dyer who is scheduled to appear before a congressional committee to testify on corruption in the military. He is assisted by a young man, Trevelle Williams, a computer hacker who unlocks a critical file for Rosalind.
They barely keep ahead of the efforts to kill Rosalind by Max Charles who is connected to a National Security staffer in the White House. The plot moves quickly and lurches to its ultimate confrontation.

Based on the story line of this book I thought I would enjoy it. However, the stereotypical characters and the "made-up" technology were distracting particularly since the technology was instrumental to the story. Situations and events didn't appear to have been thought through such as when a hacker who is being hunted by supposedly sophisticated bad guys travels from Miami to NYC on a bus without being spotted at either end of the trip in a bus station. Or, another character who is murdered in a fashion that is supposed to appear as suicide is "hung" in a hidden room where it's unlikely that anyone would have found him except someone suspecting foul play and searching for secret rooms. It was a disappointing read.

Jon Reznick is a great character; he is compassionate but will push all boundaries to get what he wants to protect those around him, and this was no different. Jon is the main character assisted by Trevelle Williams, a very talented hacker, tasked with protecting Rosalind Dyer. Rosalind is a key congressional witness, about to testify against the American government but someone is trying to stop her. Along the way, there are 7 men killed who have been associated with the case and there is are people trying to ‘eliminate’ her along the way, but she is very determined to complete her testimony. As usual, Jon will stop at nothing to bring them down and to keep Rosalind safe.

There are some dark political connections to those around the pentagon who want Rosalind gone, she knows too much and has evidence for it all. The FBI tries to help, and we see Jon’s long-standing friend, Meyerstein, involved but despite repeated requests, Jon and co will not hand themselves in until after Rosalind’s deposition.

The new characters are quickly and well developed, this is the usual action-packed read that you come to expect from Turner. However, this was a little slower paced than his last one for me and took me a while longer to read it but I am more sleepy this weekend so maybe that’s why!

Easily read as a standalone though book 8 in the Jon Reznick series.

A page turning thriller!

This is my first book by JB Turner and I really enjoyed it from start to finish. It was fast-paced, with a hard-as-nails protagonist that has common sense, a strong moral compass, and loyalty. The story was filled with twist and turns, some you’d expect and others that will surprise you.

I found the characters interesting and likable, and the plot engaging. Definitely will be checking out more of JB Turner’s work.

This was the first book I have read by J. B. Turner. I found the topic very interesting, and certainly disturbing. The extent of the corruption and the lengths characters would go to protect their secrets really make you think about the world in which we live. The good actors were interesting, and I would have liked more character development to get to know them better.

This book was difficult to put down! Full of political and financial intrigue, hackers, government agents, and a wealthy government contractor. Fast-moving and gritty all the way through, with just enough flirtation between characters to be interesting.

I have not read the previous books in this series, but after reading this one, I intend to read them! This is not my usual genre.

Although I have not read J.B. Turner’s earlier Jon Reznick thrillers, I will now. Hard Target is the perfect book to fill the time on a plane trip. The author quickly sets the premise, then leads the reader into the details while building suspense. In this story, the author weaves together elements of military security, cybercrime, politics, and murder, keeping his audience on edge waiting for the next or final twist. Turner adequately describes the characters and their background. Their human reactions are psychologically credible. While Hard Target is an easy read, a bit of a cookie cutter, Turner keeps the reader in suspense right to the last page.

I gave this book 3.5 stars. I read this book a lot quicker than I anticipated. They story kept me on my toes and to be frank, didn’t want to put it down.

This was my first Jon Reznick story, proving you don’t need to read the previous seven installments. While it’s better to read any story in sequence as books are published, this is a stand alone book that didn’t have me questioning what happened in previous novels.

While I liked the story, the character build seemed nonexistent, but I think that’s due to the fact each book is a different mission for Jon (or at least that’s what I’ve gathered). Had I read the previous seven books, I think this review would be a lot different. This was definitely a plot driven book.

It’s a quick political thriller that makes you question how corrupt our government is.

Riveting. I requested this book based on the author's reputation. First of his books I've read. Won't be the last; I've already gone back and downloaded #1 and look forward to continuing the series. The reading goes fast based on the great dialogue of the characters.

This review is not going to be long. I am not a huge fan of a review rehashing the entire plot and spoiling it for everyone.

The author does a wonderful job of my making his characters come to life. The story kept me on the edge of my seat with all the twist and turns. This was a riveting read!

This book had great action from the very first page. I was sucked in from the very start. I did not read the first seven books in this series, but I did not feel like that took away from very much. There were references to things that have taken place in the past, but everything was well defined and enough reminders were present to keep the story moving for me. There was a slight inundation of characters at the very beginning, but it might not have been so overwhelming had I read the other books in the series. There would have probably been a little more connection with some of the characters that came from development built in the other books.

I did notice three or four typos and grammar mistakes as I was reading, but nothing too egregious. Overall, I felt like the book was very Dan Brown-esque and was exciting to the very end. I was unsure how realistic this kind of thing could be because Reznik does kill quite a few people without any repercussions.

I definitely enjoyed the book and, while I most likely will not go back and read the first ones in the series, I will probably continue on in the series from here if more books are released. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Amazon Publishing for my copy of this book!

JB Turner does a great job with keeping the stories loose and not a continue from book to book. This was pretty interesting and it could have easily been a story that was ripped from the current headlines. I look forward to the next.

In Hard Target we are thrust into the world of black ops including murder, espionage, and a fast paced race to expose corruption in our government. This is the 8th book in Jon Reznik series. I had not read the other 7 books before this one and while there were a few references to his earlier adventures there was not anything in the current plot line that necessitated having read the other ones, this book can stand alone. The book starts with a former NSA hacker, Trevelle, going on the run after receiving a file to decrypt and finding assasins in his house. He calls Jon, with whom he has worked in the past and the two of them set off to stop the murder for hire of a whistleblower who is scheduld to testify in a closed congressional committee hearing. They end up embroiled in a fight against corruption. The dialogue leaves a little to be desired, it is repetitive and unimaginative. The plot moved quickly and it kept me engaged in spite of that, though. I may have to try the other books in this series!

I haven’t read the earlier works in this series which put me at a bit of a disadvantage. SO it took a bit for me to figure out The characters. Once I had that figured out , I was good.
Familiar story with some new twists which took me by surprise. Always like to read about computer hackers working for good.
And the twists kept coming right to the end. As it should be.

This book kept my interest right from the beginning. In fact I didn't stop reading until I finished it.

This is a story that has Jon Resnick respond to a request from his hacker friend, Trevelle. Trevelle had received a request from another computer geek in New York city to have him break an encrypted file. Once it became known to the individuals that sent the file, Trevelle's life came into jeopardy. Jon met Trevelle in NYC and once the information was presented to Jon, they attempted to contact the individual who had sent the file to Trevelle and upon finding him discovered that he had been killed.

Jon and Trevelle then decided that they needed to warn Rosalind Dyer that her life was in danger. Rosalind was scheduled to appear before a Senate Committee as a "Whistleblower". The information that she was disclosed was detrimental to corrupt political members and the only way they could prevent her was to kill her.

In Jon's attempt at trying to protect, individuals within Law Agencies had been issued warrants to have her arrested. The plan was that once she was arrested, then they would be able to kill her while she was in jail. Because of Jon's intervention, they could not carry out this plan. Instead, Jon and the group had to withstand several attempts that were made.

If you want to find out what information she had and whether Jon was successful in protecting her in addition to what individuals and what they had done that caused them to worry, then you need to read this book.

As this story depicts, individuals in high places, without the proper checks and balances, can inflict harm to our country if we are not careful.

I enjoyed this book, it was fast paced. I have not read any other books in the series by him. His books remind me of other author series books that could without a doubt be turned into a series on Netflix or Amazon. I would read more from him and if turned into a series would watch.

I really enjoyed this novel. It was fast-paced, well-written, and hard to put down. the characters were well-developed, and the plot was interesting as well as intriguing.

I can't remember a novel that I sat down and finished in one sitting. I just couldn't put in down. But I had never read a novel by J. B. Turner. I didn't know anything about the series featuring Jon Reznick. I really enjoyed this work. Turner's narrative makes you want to keep reading. It's charged up! The action is displayed so well. But what I really enjoyed is he didn't go for the easy plot fulfilling ending. This made the novel so satisfying.

Trevelle Williams receives documents that threaten national security. The documents pertain to the assassination of Rosalind Dyer, a key congressional witness. She about to be killed in order to stop her testimony. Someone knows that Trevelle has the documents so they're coming after him, too. He needs help and the only person he can think of is Jon Reznick.

Reznick accepts the challenge and sets out to keep Travelle and Rosalind safe until the Congressional hearing. After the hearing they will be put in a FBI safe house .

This was a great book. I couldn't put it down. I'm looking forward to reading the first books in this series.

This was my first book by J.B. Turner. It is part of a series, but can easily be read as a stand alone. I had no trouble following the story, just didn't know the back stories on some characters. It's a fast paced suspense story about corruption in the government. The main character, Jon Reznick, is trying to protect some people who are risking their lives to testify against some high ranking people in politics and the military. The story moves at a very quick pace and the characters are very likable. I enjoyed this book and would definitely read more by this author!

Trevelle, a hacker ,turns to Reznick, an all purpose kind of ex military guy when he ( Trevelle) finds himself in danger after acquiring secrets on a flash drive. The contents lead them to a whistleblower who is set to testify about that information and which will implicate several key people in the government.
The race is on then to get her in to safely testify while keeping everyone safe..
Lots of action. A bit of intrigue. An entertaining book, although a bit short in stringing it together. There are places in the book where the reader is forced to make assumptions based on very little input from the writer

Move over Jack Reacher. Jon Reznick is the guy to follow now. Far deeper and more sympathetic than Reacher, but with all the heart pounding, edge of your seat action. I thoroughly enjoyed meeting a new character and was thrilled to discover this was book 8 in the series.

The cast of characters is equally compelling - from Reznick himself, to the conflicted contact he has in Washington, to the clueless hacker who stumbled on the leaked email ordering the demise of a witness getting ready to testify, to the villain who has Reznick, the hacker and the witness on his list for elimination.

Loved this book and now I'm going to get started on the 7 that preceded it.

Williams and Reznick meet in New York City to visit David only to find out he, too, is now dead.

Rosalind Dyer is the supposed target. She is a non-gun-toting agent of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service (DCIS). She is following the trail of government embezzling by military leaders including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Franklin Ross (450 million dollars in his personal accounts) and the deaths of seven other agents tracking the same malfeasance. Rosalind has an appointment to speak to Congress as a “whistleblower”. Sound familiar?

Max Charles runs a company called Geostrategy Solutions. The company “advises” government agencies and personnel on worldwide issues. It is an internal memo from that company that Trevelle received and decoded. Charles is former C.I.A. “black ops” specializing “regime change”. Assassinations.
Jon, Trevelle, Rosalind and another friend of Trevelle spend a few days trying to keep Rosalind alive so she can testify before Congress. The story takes place over a week or so of real time. The settings are primarily Miami, New York City and areas around Washington, D.C.

There are hand-to-hand fights, shootouts, car chases and suspense themes throughout the story. It is a fast read. If you have not read J.B. TURNER before like me, then by all means start to do so. The author has two other series available as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Jon Reznick is contacting by an old friend who is in trouble. Travelle is a former NSA computer wiz kid who has left that agency and set out on his on as a hacker. But when a friend sends him a file to decrypt he doesn’t realize the danger it is going to put him in.

The file is a memo about the upcoming assassination of a government employee, a whistle blower, who is set to testify before the Senate about a Department of Defense scandal that will implicate top ranking personnel with taking bribes and siphoning off millions of dollars in defense funds.

Travelle’s friend is murdered when a group of hit men come to his home to kill him, but they get the wrong person. Travelle then contacts Reznick and the two together set out to find the target of the government assassination and try to protect her and deliver her in person to the Senate committee she is to testify before.

Needless to say a multitude of bad people are going to try and stop them. Jon does his thing and keeps them one step ahead of the hit squads. But will that be good enough?

It is well written, it is fast paced, it is an accurate portrayal of murder, deceit, betrayal and good old fashion patriotism and loyalty. Who will win?

This isn't usually the kind of book I would choose to read, so it was good for me to branch out and read something besides a psychological thriller. It was fine. It kinda seemed like the same conversations and scenarios would take place in different locations, which I guess makes sense when you take into consideration the plot and the fact that good guys are being chased by bad guys and all that. It entertained me and I read it quickly so I can appreciate that. I would likely read another book by this author.

Jon Reznick has been asked by a hacker he has used on other cases to help him because his life is in danger due to a secret government document that has been sent to him to decode. Soon government officials are involved and also other hackers. They all have a price on their heads. The deeper they go, the more danger they are in but they are pursuing criminals at the highest levels of the Pentagon and other top government offices. Someone is desperate to get hold of all the information and destroy it and anyone else who knows anything about it.

This is one of those great government intrigue mysteries / suspense stories that features a super detective who has special ops background or other “super powers” and gets in and out of very sticky situations. I loved it!

I wanted to like this. I thought I was going to like this. Based on the summary, I thought this was going to be a story about political intrigue and government corruption, yes, but I also thought the hacker (Trevelle Williams) would feature more heavily than he did. I thought this would be a more high-tech, cyber-based action novel.

I could not have been more wrong. On all counts.

It was like a bad action movie. You know the type: the action movies that are so bad, they're funny. Except this wasn't even funny. The dialogue was incredibly unrealistic. It often made me cringe because people just do not talk like that in real life. And it was so circular. Reznick kept rehashing the same conversations with the same characters. It became redundant and didn't further the story.

There was plenty of action but it was empty action. Any dramatic tension that was built up dissipated almost immediately after. Things were too easy. There was no mystery except what would happen to Rosalind. And the ending could have been great but it was a total waste because it wasn't earned. An ending like that needs time, tension, and finesse. It only pays off after carefully building and stoking that fire. Because none of that happened, the ending was a massive disappointment. I skimmed the last bit of it because the aftermath wasn't important at that point.

This one is a hard pass for me.

This is an outstanding thriller that keeps the reader tense through the entire story. Jon Reznick helps a young hacker who has been targeted because of his access to a hacked top secret memo calling for the assassination of an American citizen working as an auditor for the Department of Defense. The story takes you through the process whereby Jon troies to safeguard the woman. Although this is a later book in this series, it is as fresh as a new start. The characters are ralistic and believable. The style of writing allows for easy reading, but keeps the tension up.I was very pleased to get a copy of this book from Netgalley, as I have read other books in thgis series. Jon Reznick is the sort of person that many people want to be. He works earnestly to do what is right. I will look forward to more of his adventures

First, thanks to NetGalley for the advance read of Hard Target. I had no experience with J.B. Turner or his books and did not realize this was the 8th in a series featuring Jon Resnick. I found this book un-put-downable. A political thriller that, in days of yore, may have seemed more far-fetched but, today, makes you think. Corruption at the highest level of government, whistleblowers who risk their lives to tell the truth, and those dedicated to getting the truth told at any cost are all at the heart of Hard Target. Fast-paced and realistic, I look forward to going back and filling in Joe Resnick’s story.

Full disclosure, I was provided an ARC to review. This is my first time reading Turner, and I think I would like to reserve full judgement until after reading another of his titles. Hard Target was an interesting enough premise, but the story felt terribly contrived and overdramatic in places. Maybe I'm jaded, maybe I'm spoiled on Steve Berry and Tom Clancy. They set the bar high for the genre. Nonetheless, for those who like geopolitical thrillers, Hard Target may be an option, and it is a fast read. I plan on picking up another of the Reznick series to properly try him out.

I was new to J.B. Turner and Jon Reznick so I decided to go back and read Book #1 first. I am so glad I did. Actually both read on Kindle and listened via Audible, so I was able to get in the groove of how Jon Reznick speaks via great narration. Loved the first book and this current release Book #8. Fast paced page turners with interesting characters and good plot lines. I cannot wait to go back and read Book #2 through #7 to catch up with more of Jon Reznick's escapades.

Joe Resnick is one of many "one man army" type heroes that fights through the various plots that J. B. Turner drops him into. He has flaws, he has character depth and now a quasi-sidekick in his daughter.

It could get corny and by the numbers, but it never does, as Turner weaves a well crafted story around the characters.

I love the Resnick books and would happily recommend them to any reader out there who likes the ex-forces hero type books.

Hard Target by J.B Turner is a fast paced political thriller -the book is about deep routed corruption within the US Government. Follow Jon Reznick and Trevelle Willams on his battle to save not only the key witness but to bring the secrets to life.

I love a good thriller so add in a good hacker, some deep routed secrets AND corruption and you have a winner. This book was fast paced and showed you how far people are willing to go to keep their secrets. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the style of writing that was done by J.B Turner. Being the first book of his I read I was pleasantly surprised.

I definitely loved the characters as well with me wanting to find out more about them. as well.

I have not read any of the others in this series but as I read I found just standard fare, nothing new or really gripping. It is well written and it flows but there is no "Man I want to read on portions". Hey just me

I hadn't read a JB Turner book before but really enjoyed his fast pace writing style.

Even though this is the eighth book in the series, I didn't feel like i missed anything by having not read the first seven.

I really enjoyed some of the characters in this book and thought the story was laid out well.

My big pet peeve with this book is that I couldn't see the FBI saying many of the things they said in the book or doing some of those actions.

Reznick and Trevelle locate Dyer and convince her to come with them for her own protection.

Reznick up against one of his most powerful enemies, this is a tough fight, are the FBI backing him or against him, who is chasing him and Rosalind and Trevelle, and Fifi.

Honestly this was read in two days, would have been one day if I had the time, one of the fastest pace books I have read, one of the most gripping books I have read, great action, this series of books are utterly brilliant.

Netgalley gave me a free copy of this book for my review. This is my first book by J.B. Turner. I love a good ‘who done it’ mystery, and this one was good. The story moved swiftly along, yet I easily kept up, and I didn’t see the end coming. I also enjoyed all the high tech references and use of cutting edge technology.

This book is the 8th in a series with the main character, Jon Reznick. I enjoyed it so much I do believe I’ll have to read the whole series now!

I received a copy of this book for my honest review. This is my first in the Jon Reznick series. I enjoyed the story—fast moving political thriller, which I read a lot of. Reznick gets pulled into helping to protect a government worker who is trying to be a whistleblower. The story moves quickly but is fairly predictable. I enjoyed the book overall and would be willing to check out the others in the series but this didn’t make me want to rush out and get the others right away.

Some years ago, J.B. Turner became one of my favorite authors, knowing very well how to write a page-turning thriller, and this, his eighth volume in the series about Jon Reznick, is no exception.
This time, Reznick receives a distressed call from his hacker friend from Miami who previously has helped him on several occasions in the past. Suddenly, Reznick finds himself on the run with the hacker and a government whistleblower who was about to testify before Congress about large-scale corruption high up in the Pentagon.

Having read the other books in the series, this story feels more predictable than in the past books. Similarly so with the routine inside the FBI where only one person seems to trusts Reznick. While other characters are being added to the story flow, those most threatened by what is about to happen seem stubbornly insistent on wanting to do their own thing, and not take advice from someone who clearly more dialed in than they are. Sometimes, I feel myself wishing for them to be put out of their stupid misery.
While I was still entertained by this book, it just barely makes the fourth star in the rating.
Newcomers to the series should not start with this book, particularly because the earlier volumes in the series are even better.

Hard Target was intriguing to say the least. It was about Military espionage and how the top brass was involved in government secrets a d money that was made from them. Seven people were killed by assassins. Groups of assassins from all over TBE world was hired to keep people in check. An independent agent working for FBI working with two hackers tried to keep a women who found all the crimes that was committed out. She was about to testify and almost mace it. The author did a great job of writing this story. I received this book free from NetGalley!

This was a well written thriller. The plot was well laid out and the characters really pull you into the plot. The action starts out at a moderate speed, but really builds at the end - as most good thrillers do.

Jon Reznick's character is everything a hero should be. Conflicted and questioning his actions and if he does everything that he can to protect and help the woman in trouble.

This is part of a series, but can be read as a stand alone. It is the first that I have read in the series, and I will be going back and reading them all.

Good book. I am interested in knowing the back story and will probably read some of the other books. It's scary how technology can see and knows so much of our lives.

Trevelle is a great hacker and whistleblower, but the Feds think he has info and invade his home, killing a friend who just happened to be there, while he was on vacation. So he turns to ex Special ops Reznick. Together they uncover a very high level conspiracy involving the Joint Chiefs of Staff, many murders, etc.They need to protect the real whistleblower, a government worker in the Defense Inspector General’s office. Some great chase scenese, lots of techno speak, and slow uncovering of the whole mystery kept me glued to the page.

I was unable to get into this book and therefore DNF'd it. I have given it 3 stars as a neutral number as i do not have anything bad or good to say.

As I read these books I always wonder how much could be true, probably a frighteningly high amount. The story is good but I had to knock it down for the cliched writing style. Yes yes they are all patriots. A few of the twists were predictable I did like how the ending did not land at the easiest place.

Hard Target is a fast paced thriller building intrigue upon intrigue showcasing the machinations of very crooked politicians who felt no qualms about leaving a trail of the bodies of those who threaten to expose them. Jon Reznick defies the powers that be by continuing to pursue power hungry evil politicians, even to the extent of losing people who helped him.

This book grabbed my interest from the get-go and held it through the twists and turns that led to the surprise ending.

Wow!! What a fantastic read! Hard Target was full of intrigue and excitement. It was riveting with fast paced action and a great plot. Couldn't stop reading. Looking forward to getting more of this series soon.

This book is number 8 in a series of books about an ex-seal/delta force/ranger type guy who has gotten out but finds his skills still needed in the world. He works on an ad hoc basis with a contact in the FBI. This story involves an associate/friend hacker who gets sent a hacked copy of a memo that outlines a request for an assassination of a government investigator who is involved in investigating the pentagon. It is a story about corruption and lawlessness at the very highest levels of the US government and the Pentagon.

It is an exciting read, but somewhat formulaic in its very nature. It is a great adventure, but its details will not stay with the reader for long.

This enjoyable novel was a thriller following a whistleblower in Washington, DC and the people trying to keep her alive long enough to testify. The heroine had uncovered corruption in the military expenditures and needed to stay alive to testify. The high level military did not want her to testify, so were trying to either kidnap or kill her. The book was very much a cat-and-mouse game, but was quite well-put-together. I enjoyed reading this and had a hard time putting it down.

Jon Reznick is contacted by a friend, and this soon leads to a chase to save another woman. This book was full of corruption, thrills and turns, recommended for anyone who loves a great read.

Started off great, and kept the quick pace. It's a political thriller. Actually, quite typical for one and that's why I gave it 4⭐. I was thinking it would be a 3 ⭐, but something happened at the end that surprised me. It surprised me, because it doesn't typically happen in a book.

Jon Reznick finds himself caught in a whistle blower case. Trevelle Williams receives a document that puts his life in danger and has national security involved. He calls Reznick for help. They learn that a whistle blower, Rosalind Dyer, is in trouble. Can they save her before it's too late?

Fast paced. A few twists. A surprise ending. Typical political thriller, though.

JB Turner is a prolific author and I have enjoyed his books. Hard Target involves national security documents and government cover up. It is very true to life.....or what I would think is true. I could barely do anything but read this book. If you love geo-politics and suspense, this is a perfect read!

A decent thriller that has a geo-political aspect to it. Fast-paced and a good read as far as thrillers go nothing out of the ordinary for me on this one.

Jon Resnik returns in another action packed thriller. Felt that this storyline was a little more chaotic and true to life than previous ones read, proving that not everything works out as you’d hope.
