Description

Fresh from successfully defending a Texas billionaire, Gabriela Sanchez wants to avoid the media spotlight. Then she is asked to represent Gina Rossi, a determined, driven, cold-as-ice lawyer who refuses to testify in a grand jury bribery investigation of her client and the former Texas governor.

Defending a client against the Department of Justice is at best a daunting task, but Gina Rossi makes it even more difficult when she is unwilling to listen to Gabriela’s legal advice and refuses to tell her all of the important facts.

Rossi claims she cannot testify because of the lawyer-client privilege and she asserts the government will charge her with perjury if she doesn’t tell the story they want to hear.

Why is Gina willing to go to jail, risk her career and take on the Department of Justice? Gabriela believes Gina knows something that she needs to keep secret. How far is Gina willing to go to keep what she knows secret?

Advance Praise

This was an enjoyable book. The characters were complex, twists at the ending were surprising, and I liked reading the differing viewpoints of the main characters. Overall well written.

I enjoyed this well written legal thriller. The characters, while not always likable, were well developed and believable. The story flowed seamlessly. This is my first novel by this author but will not be my last. Well done,.

Countdown to Justice is the story of two powerful legal divas. Both are determined and driven, but one seeks the spotlight while the other does everything she can to avoid it. Gina Rossi is doing everything she can to protect the attorney-client privilege while Gabriela Sanchez is doing everything she can to keep Gina out of jail. The Department of Justice is relentless in their pursuit of Gina, stooping to some low-down tricks in order to convince her testify before the Grand Jury. As the story goes on, it appears that the attorney-client privilege is not the only reason Gina doesn’t want to testify. What’s done in the dark most always come to light.
I love the intricacies of legal dramas. The beginning of this book was interesting, and the story continued to hold my interest throughout. The trial portion was very detailed in areas so if you are not into legal detail, it may drag a bit for you. The characters were multi-dimensional and encouraged empathy. This book is more suspense than thriller, but it is an enjoyable read. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book.

I received this book through the Read Now program on "NetGalley".

This story relates to the trials and tribulations of Gina Rossi, by the Special Prosecutor's Office, of obtaining information to discredit a potential nominee to the Supreme Court. Gina receives a notice to appear before a Grand Jury to discuss interactions between Randall Burke, her client, and Governor Harrington, the former Governor of Texas. She was directed to go before the Grand Jury and bring her files as well as testify.

Before the Grand Jury hearing, she hire Gabriela Sanchez to represent her and prepare her for her testimony. She had already made up her mind that she would refuse to testify because of Attorney-Client privilege which did not allow any testimony unless the client permitted it. Because she refused to testify, the Federal Judge held her in contempt and order her to jail until she agreed to testify. Once the Grand Jury was dismissed, then she was released.

No sooner than the day of her release, the Special Prosecutor assigned initiated a midnight raid and arrested her for obstruction of Justice and Contempt. A trial was held before a jury and she finally received authorization to testify from Randall Burke. After her testimony, the defense rested and the Judge advised the jury of what to consider when deciding whether Gina was guilty or innocent.

If you want to find out how the jury decided, then you must read this book which I highly recommend.
