Scullion follows the events that take place in the follow up to the weekend of the wedding between the prince and famous warrior-lady Riqa.
We follow three separate storylines. That of Darlis, a scullion at the palace who has dreams of being a chef, Riqua's story as well as the story of two troll siblings looking to make a quick buck.
I enjoyed reading Scullion so much, it was exactly the pick me up I needed! The art style is colourful and distinctive, as well as easy to follow. There were panels that made me laugh out loud. One of my favourites is a three column one where Darlis tells himself that he 'can't even climb up this cliff'. He then proceeds to try to climb up the cliff and fails. 'Yeah, nope!' he says. How many times have we not done that as humans in our day to day life. Know that there is a thing that we can't do, but try again, just in case you can magically do the thing you were never capable of doing before.
Not only is Scullion funny and relatable, but it does hold some encouraging messages. 'It's okay not to know what you want to do yet.' One of the characters tells another. I didn't know that I needed to read that, and yet I did.
Overall, this was a quick, fun read that will be enjoyed by those of all ages!
PS: There is a moment when Darlis holds up a book (volume 2 of the Fair Maiden's Guide) and says 'ah yes, the longest year is over' and I haven't related to anything more.
