Description

The human eye is only capable of detecting a miniscule percentage of the electromagnetic spectrum; we call this visible light. It is this limited perception that has defined our very reality as a species.

Second Sight is the story of a brilliant young scientist who develops the nano-technology to cure blindness. He could never have prepared for the betrayal and intrigue that befell him, nor could he have foreseen the hidden agendas that lay waiting in the shadows.

Michael Rose's synchronistic journey into the realms of possibility would not only leave him questioning his own sanity, but the very nature of existence itself. Neither he nor his nefarious benefactors stopped to ask: if this nano-technology could enhance the function of the human eye, what else would it see?

Michael Rose was happy with his busy life as a student of computer science and neuroscience. When he entered the workforce, he was introduced to a scientist who was using nanotechnology to assist cures within the human body. Michael dreamed of curing blindness. However, sadly, that is not where the money is. Soon, backers came forward who wanted to use the lab’s nanotechnology for something else, something that Michael had never even dreamed of. The results of his work surprise even him!

This is an interesting book. The writing is somewhat stilted and unnatural, but the character development is good. Nonetheless, the story does flow and it captivates the reader. This tale took a strange turn, though, from being a science fiction selection, to a more spiritual one. Although that is unusual, it did make me think.

I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an unbiased review.

This book was fantastic on so many levels! The story was set up in a manner that many people can relate to; being young and setting out in life full of hope, ideals and enthusiasm. The protagonist, Michael is a bright and talented young man want in good to make his mark on the world. The author used Michael's character to show how even someone with the very best of intentions can get pulled away from the simple things we enjoy in life; love, friendship, our personal ideals and can unwittingly be taken advantage of and exploited.
The story had plenty of twists that were unexpected and kept the book moving at an exciting pace and I found that I couldn't put it down as I wanted to see how it would end. A very well written novel, highly recommend!

This may be hidden gem since it's been out for years, and has only a handful of reviews. It's fast-paced and the plot is quite engaging, which makes up for the mixed character development, The author's imagination is admirable, and this is well executed. I also enjoyed some of the detailed descriptions and tech. Recommended.

Thanks very much for the ARC for review!!

This book was really good and it started out a little slow but I loved it as I got further in it was really suspensful as i got further in. This book kept me at the edge of my seat waiting for what was going to happen next. The main character was really dynamic and really interesting in this book besides that the book started out slow it was really good.

Wow, what a story! Michael is a young neuroscience student and his dream is to cure blindness with nanobots. But his work will be used to create new solders, so Michael is going to change that.
Great read!
Thank you Netgalley and thanks to the author for this opportunity.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for providing me with a free copy of Second Sight in exchange for an honest review.
As soon as I read the description for this book, I knew I was going to enjoy it.
Michael Rose always dreamed of developing a technology that would ultimately cure blindness. I did appreciate Michael's character and his immense knowledge, but I did have some issues with Michaels immediate trusting of every person he met. However, the story was a quick page turner and always left the reader wanting to know more and what would happen next.

Some spoilers here:

Although Michael was extremely bright and had good intentions with wanting to aid those whom were blind, he did not realize soon after that some other individuals he was "working" for were going to use his intelligence and discovery for military means (with the potential to kill others - as it so very did). This book had great character development and the plot flowed nicely, however, I did not particular enjoy the ending where Michael converses with Amadachi. I understand why it was incorporated but I also feel like it did not do anything for the story.

All in all, this book will have you envisioning all that science can do, and most likely, will do in the near future. It had some hints and similarities of Blake Crouch's writing, which I absolutely adored. I suggest you read this book if you are interesting in the potentials of future scientific advancements and the potential for so much to go wrong.

this was a really unique read in the scifi novel, the characters were great and I really enjoyed getting to know them. I look forward to more from the author.

The premise of this book is incredibly fascinating - the development of technology to improve failings in the human body (blindness in this case), especially as it deals with some of the potential consequences of this course of action.
