Snow & Caramel

WOW I really really loved this book.
It's a post-apocalyptic dystopian fiction about a 16 yo Snow and his 13 yo sister, who are trying to survive one cruel master.
The year is 2238 and the world is nothing like we know it. The human race is divided to humans and humanoids. I want to tell you more but I don't want to spoil it for you.
Snow and Caramel are humanoids or "small humans" they like to call themsleves. They are bought by this evil man who torture them and humiliates them a lot. I got really emotional while reading it. He treated them so bad and I felt so sorry for Snow and all the things he had to go through. It was really emotional read and it gives a message that we are humans no matter how we look like and that we don't deserve to be treated any different but as humans.
Well done to the author. That was really great read and I recommend it. Even if you have never read this genre just try it. I was hooked from the very beginning and couldn't stop turning the pages fast enough to see what will happen next.

At first, I was a little annoyed that the description didn't state that this is a novella. I usually avoid novellas, as I don't have enough time to connect with the characters or the world. I'm so happy to say that this book was an exception!

I really wasn't expecting this book to hit me as hard as it did. I found myself feeling quite emotional and truly empathised with these characters and felt their struggle. There were some lines in here that really are eye opening and thought provoking. Tackling a major problem of prejudice and inequality.

I thought the writing was good and I found the story itself very suspenseful. I'd love to know what happened after the end, but at the same time, I also think it was a perfect place to finish.

The small humans kept reminding me of hairy hobbits.. Especially whenever they used the word 'master'.

This is such an emotional story about the underdog, and what he must endure to ensure survival for himself and his family. The atmosphere is raw and oppressive, and weighs heavy on the reader as you're thrown into a post-apocalyptic world where hate and greed reign supreme, and the elite are human shells.

Snow and Caramel are characters that you can't help but love. They are strong despite their hardships, they take care of one another, and they both keep a sense of innocence in a world where they've been forced to grow up fast.

This story touched me on a visceral level because it dealt with oppression and discrimination, slavery and cruelty, but also hope and love, compassion and strength. It is set in a dystopian future where the "big humans" are able to buy and sell the smaller race of "humanoids." It throws the cruelty of the owners right in your face as they have complete control over this sweet brother and sister, and it shows how this cruelty is taught to the next generation. But it also shows the strength that Snow, as the older brother taking care of his young sister, has, and how he, in turn, is passing that on to her.

I thought the writing was superb. I was drawn in immediately and became invested in the story from the get go. The characters were well written and the plot moved along at a very good pace. My only complaint is that the story was too brief, being a novella. I would love to read more.

I highly recommend this story to all lovers of dystopian, horror stories that deal with uncomfortable subject matter in a way that is extremely well written and moving. I look forward to reading other works by this talented author.
