In Little Sammy Samurai, author Raz Chan and illustrator Eddie Moreno take a topic that could be (and has been) handled in nonfiction format and instead turn it into a fun fiction story that helps the lesson go down more smoothly. This book can help kids learn coping skills at home, or it could inspire them to take part in martial arts classes away from home. Either way, children learn how to better control their anger. I love the clever addition of giving the reader a belt ranking as they proceed from book to book. I'm looking forward to reading more books in this series!

This thoughtful little book will help children learn how to deal with anger management. The illustrations are appropriate and I think children will love the belt system through the book. It will make a good guide for parents too.

Beautifully illustrated with simple and easy to understand language, 'Little Sammy Samurai Masters Anger' is a perfect book to be introduced to children in key stage one - age five onwards.
The story explains how Sammy struggles with his emotions, particularly anger until he meets an old dog in the park. The old dog can definitely teach Sammy a new trick and he helps him to channel his anger by using a breathing technique with small movements.

This is a really lovely book which I think teachers and parents would benefit from trying out the breathing technique in the classroom or at home.

I look forward to reading more Little Sammy adventures.

Didn't care for it at first, but eventually liked the message it was delivering. Artwork was nice. But the text was so-so.

Formatting / copy-edit notes :
The white with drop shadow text doesn't work very well. Pages 7, 13, 14 don't have enough contrast. Page 9 either is missing a comma or should have one removed. Page 10 - comma should be removed. Horizontal black bars on page 11 make it difficult to read the text, and the brown/green bars on page 28 seem to be a rendering error. Page 32 - comma not needed before "Dojo"

I read this book with my daughter and we enjoyed it. The book is about a boy called Sammy who has a lot of anger issues. He meets a dog who teaches him martial arts in order for him to control his anger and be more mindful and calm. I showed my daughter the martial arts technique in the book and we were practicing it. The book has a lot of nice illustrations and it is very colourful.

Many thanks to the author, publisher and Netgalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fantastic start to a series of "how to" books. Its a book about learning how to channel emotions through martial arts technique. Book one's topic is how to channel anger in a positive way. My boys really enjoyed this and got really excited when they recgnised the move little Sammy was taught to help with his anger. As their older sister is learning Karate. I am excited to see what future books will cover.
