Princess Selena of Dragonwall or as she's commonly known, Lena, is a fighter. She's turned 17 and knows all too well what the Charter says regarding her finding a mate and if this does not come to pass, she forfeits the crown and it's all so much for her to bear.
I got this book off the Netgalley "Read Now" shelf because I was intrigued by the title, cover and blurb. I love a story with a fierce heroine and if she's young, feisty and true, then I'll love it even more.
I love that the author did not create a flawless character. Lena is not immune to hopes and dreams, infatuation, or better yet the persistence of teens that their way is right. So, this was a fun read as well because of the mischief she plots. The vast personality of the suitors who come seeking for her hand and the patience with which her parents guide her. Did I mention that it involves dragons? They are my favorite mythical creatures.

Usually I am skeptical when a book is compared to The Selection, but I really enjoyed this one! I loved the flip where it’s the men competing for the princess since it’s usually the women competing! Great read!

If a princess acted like Denice the menace that would be here. Lots of crazy antics played on all the boring side characters.

I really enjoyed this story that was a combination of The Selection series and a gladiator book. While I loved the book, I did feel like it read as two separate books in a series. One of the main characters does not even show up until after 50% of the book is through. While this can be exciting, because it leaves you guessing, I already knew the character should be coming from the blurb, so it was a little annoying waiting for him. That being said, the author did an amazing job of showing the growth of her characters as the events passed. The main character, while amazing, had a tendency to be very immature. She was to be the future Queen, but all she really cared about was the title that came with it. She wanted to make a difference, but never really wanted to do the work. She doesn't change much until Tristan shows up. Tristan and Lena bring out the best in each other and I really enjoyed watching their slow courtship. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves a good action romance.

For the Crown: Dragonwall Royals, is one of those books that you don't expect much from but end up being blown away by.
It has a unique and original plot, strong and feisty characters that are not perfect and grow as the story progresses. It also features dragons. Lots of Dragons. So it's very hard to put this book down and not become obsessed with it.

I may have a new favorite book! I could not put this one down. It has everything you could want in a YA fantasy novel - princesses, dragons, duels, romance, and did I mention DRAGONS!

Princess Lena is an incredibly relatable character. Her desire for freedom and what should be her birthright lead her to find an unexpected path to happiness. For such a young character she shows great maturity, but not so much that she can't change and grow more throughout the story.

The world is beautifully created and once you get in a few chapters the lore of the world starts to make more sense. It definitely takes a few chapters to understand some of the complexities of the magic of the world. But once you understand it, it is incredibly well thought out!

The beginning of this has the feel of the Selection, but with dragons and a role reversal. It soon takes its own take shape in Dragonwall.

Lena is a princess and to be able to retain her title, she has to find a mate by her eighteenth birthday. The time is nearing and all the single males are summoned by the king, in the hopes that one of them will be successful. Lena resents the idea, but as this is the law, she has to comply. This doesn't mean that she has to be on her best behaviour. She welcomes them with an entrance that they will not forget. There is a mixture of personalities amongst them. Some are just ambitious and others are in search of their own mates.

Tristan makes an appearance quite late in the story, but his background is fascinating and even though he is not looking for a mate, he participates in the ceremony. Who will be the lucky participant?

Dragonwall is fascinating as are the dragons and their mates. Lena is proficient in helping her father with royal duties, but in other ways she is rather immature. She likes to play pranks. Tristan is very "gallant". The suspense, action and plot building make for a compulsive read. A worthwhile read.

I received a copy from Netgalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

Well this book was a trip down memory lane because it was so alike The Selection! But this one came with a twist. Lena had to marry a Drengr which is basically a human blessed with Dragon powers, which is so cool! Now even I want a mate who's a Drengr!
The writing was really good, it gave enough insight into the character's personality to make them feel real. The pacing was good and made me want to read more and more. Only thing I felt could've been improved was the conflict, or lack thereof. It felt too goody goody, and even though there was an obvious enough conflict, it wasn't enunciated very well. But the story made me feel really good, and I think books are more about how they make us feel! So all in all it was a good read!

A fun romp through dragon mythology. Lovers of dragon lore will enjoy this newly added title. Great for fans looking for a female lead, and who enjoy stories full of royal intrigue.

A fabulous fantasy world centered around dragons!

I’m loving this book. Throughout reading this I had a maniac grin on my face since nearly everything was so engaging. I expected to find another YA fantasy book that was just run of the mill. Those books are fine and I do like them, but this was not it. I would compare this story and prose to Shannon Hale’s Princess Academy instead of Kiera Cass’s The Selection. The beginning did have a similar idea to Cass’s Selection but it was carried out in a much more different way.

The pacing was decent. I did feel the beginning was much more slower than the climax. The story is centered around the characters, so I feel like this impacted the pacing the most.

This has historical accuracy and I’m going to cry. It was used in the book logically and was correctly placed. I am so impressed! Also, thanks author for not tightening Lena down to a size 0 waist size with the corset.

My two favorite scenes are the ceremony bowing scene followed by the garden honesty scene.

The characters were the most important part of the story.
• The main character Lena was lit. She actually learned skills and learned more about herself. Her relationship with others seemed fairly natural. I found her personality to be almost perfectly balanced.
• Tristan was fabulous. My biggest complaint with his character is that he was too perfect. I kind of wanted to see him fail, to be honest. He was too amazing.
• The father and mother are the best supporters of Lena and its fabulous. Lena learned quite a lot from both of them and I’m glad she was able to grow past their mistakes. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I didn’t see the mother a lot. I’ll have to reread to make sure.
• I really liked the handmaidens because they were shown well and they had realistic personalities.

I did find some downsides to this book, though, hence the docking of a partial star.

The biggest was the lack of information about things not relevant to the plot or scene. Every scene is important to either character development or plot development, so everything included is important. It doesn’t include anything else to throw you off and make other guesses. Of course, there are plot twists included that I found witty. It wasn’t missing those at all. I would say it’s like a Youtube video with just a plain green screen and no filters used. It’s GOOD, yes. It was just missing that last element.

This book was very black and white good and evil. You could ask me who was the main bad guys and I would easily be able to point out the people. It could have been improved on this aspect too.

The final downside was the VERY spoilery summary included. I already knew to expect Tristan thanks to that, so I couldn’t really root on Lena with her other relationships before him.

I really enjoyed this!! I’m going to have to get a few copies for me and my friends. They’re going to love it! Thanks NetGalley and the publisher Melissa Ricketts Paperback for the ARC!!

I was really drawn into this book by the characters. I thought the main character was great and I really enjoyed her interactions with the other members of the palace. The way the society was set up was interesting and I enjoyed learning about their traditions and seeing her interactions with both the members of her own palace and the potential princes. I did wish there had been a little more world building to better understand why their society worked the way it did and the history of this land but I felt I got enough to still enjoy the story. I did initially go into the book thinking it was geared toward the older end of YA but the romance is pretty tame and while there is violence and some gore I think the writing and overall style of the book is still suited toward the younger end of YA. That said I overall enjoyed this book and would be interested in seeing more of this kingdom.

Right from the beginning of the book, I was captured by the story. I liked that the prologue went straight in with the action and then chapter one had nothing to do with it, which kept me thinking back to that first scene and trying to work out how it would be incorporated into the book. I was skeptical at first when I saw that the book had been compared to The Selection, but For The Crown was what I wished The Selection could have been. Lena was a fierce, feminist character who wasn't afraid to voice her opinions or do things in her own way. When things didn't go to plan at the ceremony, she didn't give up straight away, instead she kept on fighting and adapted to the situation. I also liked that it wasn't easy for her to find her mate and she was in a relationship beforehand even though she knew she shouldn't have been, it gave her space to grow and develop as a character. When the main love interest did appear, they didn't have an immediate 'insta-love' sort of relationship, it was enjoyable and realistic to see that they had struggles and Lena had fears about their relationship.

Overall, For The Crown was much better than I expected and was a great read!

So I wasn’t sure what to expect from this story but from reading the synopsis and seeing it described as the selection meets the Gladiator, I knew I would have to give it a go and I was not disappointed at all!

I loved the plot and loved the characters, plenty of twists and plenty to keep you coming back for more.

Highly recommend and can’t wait for more from this author.

When I read that this story was a cross between The Selection and Gladiator, I knew I had to read it. The story focuses on Lena, a princess who must marry before her 18th birthday or she must give up the throne to insure the prosperity of the kingdom. All eligible men are called to the palace to be tested. Will Lena find her destined mate? If she doesn’t them the men can compete to attain the throne, and then what will happen to her?

Lena is a great protagonist, who is smart, mischievous, and sassy. She is a schemer, especially when she doesn’t get what she wants. Though a bit immature at times, she is also fierce and determined to have her voice heard. She resents many of the rules and restrictions placed upon her because of her gender and social status. Her character goes through much growth throughout the story as Lena tries to reconcile social expectations and rules with her own needs and desires.

Lena’s love interest isn’t introduced until almost halfway through the story, so it is more difficult to connect to him. However, he has an interesting background, and his chemistry with Lena is great.

An interesting coming-of-age romance with humans, dragon shifters, sprites, and more, For the Crown will appeal to readers who enjoy young adult fantasy with strong female characters, dynamic worlds, and romance. Thanks so much to Netgalley for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are my own.

THIS BOOK IS SO FREAKIN’ AMAZING! And it has dragons in it (and I love dragons). But let me start at the beginning – Princess Lena cannot rule Dragonwall unless she finds a mate. Her father, the king, summons all the unmated dragons to the capital for a chance to find a mating bond. Unless she can find her mate, Lena will be forced to give up her crown and let one of the dragons rule.

I loved this book, and I need more of Melissa Mitchell’s books (I need to get to Dragonwall Series). Princess Selena is an amazing character who is very unprincessy and she causes a lot of trouble – I liked her because she was so natural and she actually made of a lot of mistakes, but she always took responsibility. Also, Tristan is most definitely book boyfriend material – where can I get one? He is mysterious, gallant and HE ACTUALLY RESPECTS LENA’S CHOICES. He is not pushy, and he is incredible.

I enjoyed the worldbuilding a lot, and I’m usually very picky about that – I like the idea of Drengrs (dragons who also have human forms), and I only wish we could find out more about the world (though I suppose it’s described in her other books). I liked the selection part, it was very intriguing and then all the fighting. This book was really my type of book. And I liked how this time all the men were summoned to be kind of chosen by the princess where usually in books it’s the girls that have to compete for a prince. I won’t say more because don’t want to spoil anything, but I highly recommend this book.

This book perfectly fits into my category of a guilty pleasure read!

I started this book interested in its claim to be a mix between The Selection and The Gladiator. It was kinda both, but with some differences. The Selection similarities were heavy in the first half of the book, while The Gladiator was more the second half. I actually really enjoyed the split themes, it gaves the book a nice feel. However, I would say that the book overall is very different from either of the others.

One book I did feel like this book was a little like was a Sarah J Maas book. I think part of that came from the whole mates things, but there was also a scene where she throws a show at a guy, so if you know you know 😉

Lena was definitely an interesting character to read from. I found that she was pretty much an even mix of pretty generic ya character traits along with some pretty unique ones. For instance, she likes sweets and isn’t thrilled with showing too much cleavage, however, she did love pranks and jokes, so I loved to see that side because for how young she was it really made sense. She also had some decent character growth in the book. She comes off as really naive when you start reading and definitely learns, which is always great!

Something else I liked was The Selection part at the beginning had me laughing, it really had a bad first date, almost like an online dating vibe! I feel like you rarely see first dates in books!

In the end, the actual romance was probably my favorite part. I won’t spoil for those you haven’t read it, but it definitely had me smiling and pretty invested!

Ultimately, The plot was enjoyable and I had a great time reading, but it is not the most serious of ya reads. I would 100% recommend for anyone looking for a fun romance read with some magic, dragons, and royalty.

This book has everything you want in a fantasy- royalty, dragons, misadventure, romance. It's an entertaining read with wonderful world building. The characters are well developed and engaging. This book will appeal to young adults and mature readers. Its a recommended read. Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to review

This book seemed like a mash-up of several of my favorites. The first half reminded me of the Selection, and then the second half was the competition from Throne of Glass with a few switch-ups. That being said, it didn't feel like a repeat of other books. Despite its similarities to other books, I still really enjoyed this.

My main problem with this was out main character, Lena. She was supposed to be 18, but she really acted like a 13 year old for the first half of the book. I felt like she really matured throughout the book, but she really irritated me in the beginning. Her complaints about the succession were completely logical, but the way she went about issuing them was ridiculous. (her pranks weren't even that good or entertaining)

Another one of my issues with this was the romance. Our main character seemed a bit flighty, her affections ran a bit quick. Both of her relationships were super insta-lovey, and it had been apparent since the beginning that her and Daryn weren't endgame. I did like her and Tristan together, and I felt like it was a good way for the book to end.

When I picked up this book, I hadn't realized that it was a prequel to a series, so I wasn't familiar with the world at all. Regardless, I feel like I understood this pretty well, and this read like a standalone. I enjoyed this book, and may pick up the rest of the series.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was an excellent book. There have been many books I have read where the prince searches for his princess, but this is the first with the opposite. It was nice reading a strong female character. I would welcome another in this series, for I wonder what is next for Lena. #forthecrown #netgalley

I received a free e-ARC of this book from NetGallery.
I really liked this book! It is like The Selection meets dragons and life mates, which anytime anyone mentions dragons and mates I absolutely adore! I think the author did a great job of presenting the story that she wanted. The author created the world to have humans, men who can change into dragons, and the mates (there are other supernatural creatures but they are not as relevant to the story). The author made it so only men can change into dragons and that their mates will be females that are their riders. The author has the main character, Princess Lena, acknowledge the misogyny and emphasize that it is unfair. I would have liked for the character to have been more active in combating gender inequalities.
I love the slow burn romance! At first, there are a couple of dragons that you think could be the love interest, but then it turns out that it is the newcomer. I liked how the relationship started as friends and developed into something more. In the book for dragons to know if someone is their mate/Rider, she needs to touch his scales and their minds will meld together. I enjoyed that the love interest did not pressure her into touching his scales even though he knew she was his mate for weeks. And once she did touch the scales they were officially a couple and it was adorable.
The descriptions of Princess Lena’s outfits were amazing! I want this to be adapted to the screen just so I could see the outfits in real life! The author did a spectacular job of describing clothing and especially made it grand enough for royalty.
This book got a rating of 4 out of 5 stars because of a couple of reasons. One reason is that I wish the writing had adult scenes, the way this book was described to me I thought that there would have been more adult scenes. The only adult scenes in this book are violence, which was done well but I think the story would not have been harmed if there were some bedroom scenes. As of right now, I think this book is acceptable for high school and up, where some middle schoolers could be able to read this with parent approval. I think I just want more bedroom scenes because many of the stories that have similar trends and plot lines use the bedroom scenes to be unique and show how they are different. Another factor is that the prologue gives away a lot of the plot and the reader already knows how the story is going to end. Sometimes it is nice to know the ending, but in the case of this story, the mystery would have been better. Also, this book started off slow and then ended fast, where I wish more of the book could have had a faster pace.

I really enjoyed this book. I thought the writing was good and the story was absorbing enough that I wanted to keep reading until I had reached the end.
The world-building was very good although I understand the author has written books set in this world before so that meant the foundations of it had already been fleshed out.
I think that the main character was also written in a realistic way - a trickster but can uphold the ceremony of her office as a princess with aplomb and dignity when she needs to.
At times, it felt that the book was too fast paced and jumped from one major event to the next with little time for the main character to emotionally process or reel from the dashing of her hopes and dreams.
Her recovery from what would have been her life's greatest disappointment was also quite quick.
I would also have liked to know more about the role of the Spriten and their background with the male character.
His introduction into the book was quite sudden as it jumped from him being in the prologue to disappearing completely until his dramatic entrance. Perhaps some chapters from his perspective and a parallel narrative would have given the story more depth.
Overall an enjoyable and entertaining read for when you want to be distracted without expending too much mental energy.

Thank you to Netgalley and BooksGoSocial for letting me read this book. This book is marketed as a combination of Gladiator and the Selection, and I can absolutely see where those influences come from. In this amazing world where women, or Riders, are mated to Drengr, which just happen to be dragons, Lena is reaching the age where she has to find her mate so she can help run the kingdom. Her whole life she has been taught and led toward that moment. So, in order to find her mate, her father, the king, sends out a decree for all unmated Drengr to come and vie for her heart and see if they’re fated to be together.

This is where the Selection influence comes in, and has a very Bachelor feel to it as well. It is a little cheesy, but I found it very enjoyable. Having her point of view of what she really thinks about some of them is hilarious and very refreshing. I really enjoyed watching Lena start off playing pranks and jokes on other people in the royal family, to growing into the woman she’s supposed to be in order to help run the kingdom. The Gladiator influence comes in later in the story during a competition, and the descriptions alone transport you to Lena’s view, hoping the best Drengr wins. Overall, I really enjoyed this book and is a unique fantastical taste on the Selection series.

This is a perfect read for fans of 'The Selection'

For Lena, finding a mate among the Drengr is the only way she can become the ruler of Dragonwall. The law forbids a princess who hasn't found a mate before their eighteenth year, from ruling the kingdom.
With a strong plot and twists and turns, the story takes the reader through the ups and downs of Lena's chaotic life, as she deals with possible mates, interesting denizens of the castle while discovering the enigmatic ways of fate.
Lena is a strong no-nonsense heroine, brave and mentally strong. She takes on various challenges and doesn't give up in the face of failure. She is clear about what she wants and has no qualms about giving her best.

I would really recommend this book for a light afternoon read.

I really enjoyed that this was a twist, but still held onto the YA components we all love.

The whole vibe of soulmates, but with a “fate decides” and the dragon scales was just a brilliant way to keep that link, but mold it to fit this particular fantasy.

Lena was a great MC and I like that her roll might have been typical for the time period, she steps out as an individual. She plays the princess role as best as she can, but desires more and when she does she makes it a point to learn what she wants. Her parents are brilliant supporters and her father never gives up on teaching her how to be a Queen, even though the rules call for something else. Her mom provides that motherly feel, with some feminine strength as well. Both of her parents were like two sides to a coin. They provided their own characteristics to what was needed to make the book flow.

Tristen was just beyond perfect for a new book boyfriend. He was the typical angsts rebel we all know we love and the fact that he did not WANT love made it all just better. The fact that he tried to fight it, but when he couldn’t he still respected boundaries was fantastic to watch.

Overall I would say this is a wonderful twist on The Selection and I think I liked it more because it had more fantasy to it.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! The only downside was, I wished it was longer. I wanted to read more!

-Stone.

Lena has somehow beat history, she's the only female of her line to survive until she's 17. Despite being the daughter of the king, she can never rule unless she's mated before her eighteenth birthday. While she knows this to be fact, finding her mate means being bound to another for eternity, and she it's not a choice she wants. So she decides to drive her suitors away.

In the beginning it was kind of funny, how she caused mischief and trouble at every turn. It became annoying just how immature she is, focused solely on herself instead of all that she was raised to be. Eventually she finds that maturity and decides to face the 27 that came to try for the mate bond. It's an intimidating concept considering they're all in dragon form at the ceremony, yet more so because in the end it may fail anyway as bonds are not guaranteed to be found.

This story has vibes of The Selection series, gladiators, and has dragon shifters. It's fairly entertaining story with some amazing battles (in the competition) and a refreshing twist on the dragon mate bonds. It was intriguing enough that I went on to read the books available in the Dragonwall books.

First half: ★★★★★
Second half: ★★★

After reading a good portion of this book, I thought for sure this was going to be a new favorite book. It was everything I could have hoped for and I was hooked from the very beginning. This book delivered its own version of The Selection but with Dragons and better. I loved it so much and our main character was also fun to follow as she was known for being a trickster.

However, for some reason I found myself enjoying less the rest of the story. There were a few things with the writing that made me pause and that took me out of the story at times. I think now that I've finished it, the thing that bothered me the most was the romance with Tristan. It felt underwhelming and I expected more after really liking the flirtation that our main character had with Daryn. Obviously, this couldn't last forever as he was looking for his mate and Lena wasn't her. I didn't mind that since we knew from the beginning it was only temporary. However after that, I was expecting to love her interactions with Tristan even more but unfortunately, it was just okay.

Overall, I enjoyed this book and I would be interested in reading the sequel even though I didn't love this book completely. I'm sad not to add it to my favorites shelf but I guess until you've read the last page, you never know.

(Thank you for letting me read and review an ARC via Netgalley)

While fairly predictable, still a very enjoyable read. Lena is a very likable character, as is most of the guys. It was refreshing to see her as a human in a world full of extraordinary people without her having some sort of super secret powers.

Before I begin my review for For the Crown: Dragonwall Royals book 1 by Melissa Mitchell, I would personally like to thank the author and Netgalley the opportunity to read this ARC and I have reviewed it honestly.

The Selection meets Throne of Glass and the Inheritance Cycle, in this exciting first instalment of the Dragonwall Royals series. Lena, a mischievous and independent Princess, finds herself being courted by 27 hopefuls as her 18th nameday approaches. As Lena struggles to find her fated mate, gladiator style tournaments are fought, politics are pursued and a love triangle is formed. For the Crown is an enticing, invigorating, heart-pounding and spine tingling YA fantasy.

For the Crown features, but is not limited to, the following themes:
○ YA fantasy
○ YA romance
○ Royals
○ Mates
○ Gladiator tournaments
○ Love triangle
○ Dragon shifters

My overall rating for For the Crown is...

5 stars!

The combination of Throne of Glass, the Selection and the Inheritance Cycle was extremely exciting and made for an easy, eccentric, enticing and exotic read. I love reading about royals, especially princesses and Queens with their independence, beauty and big hearts, and Princess Lena was no exception. For the Crown was perfect, I couldn't recommend it more!

I’ve never read The Selection, so I don’t know how accurate the comparison is. What I do know is that overall this is a very entertaining book, and Lena is a wonder character—smart, occasionally immature, loyal to her friends and understandably resentful of this “a woman can’t rule without a mate” nonsense. Personally I would have been happier if she’d stuck to her guns and carved out her own path, but YA fantasy conventions dictate that Mr. Too Good To Be True shows up at the halfway point to solve all her problems. He’s so perfect that it’s hard to feel anything for him ( his name is literally “Gallant,” for crying out loud) and the Menace to the Kingdom is dealt with so quickly that everything wraps up way too soon for you to believe that Lena and her family are in any real danger.

I was fortunate to receive an eARC of "For The Crown," and I absolutely loved every minute of this story. The world building and character development was wonderful to me. It was a bit predictable, but I didn't mind it. I'm looking forward to book two when it releases!

This is a reverse Selection and with DRAGONS. :) Yes,... with dragons. If that doesn't get your attention, I don't know what else will. :) The heroine is great. I like how she tries to handle things herself and isn't a pushover. The plot gets very interesting half way through especially.

I have recieved this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This book was like a cross between Hunger Games and the Selection. Princess Lena has to find her mate by her 18th birthday or else she will be forced to relinquish her crown to whoever wins a tournament. Her father, King Cornan summons all the unmated dragons to the capital to see if Lena is one of their mate. Lena doesn't want a mate but she understands that she can only rule as a dragons mate because the length of her life will be extended. Fate is cruel and Lena does not find her mate at the choosing ceremony so she is forced to give up her crown to whoever can win the tournament for the crown. When the tournament begins, a mysterious stranger named Tristan shows up. A mysterious unmated stranger that didn't show up when her father issued the summons. As the tournament goes on Lena and Tristan become closer and she realizes that she might be open to the idea of a fated mate.

I really enjoyed Lena as a character. She was rebellious, resourceful, and willing to do what was best for her country. I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the romance, the scheming, the pranks, and the battles.

This is my first read by Melissa Ricketts. I was not sure what to expect. I was intrigued by the beautiful cover of this book and the synopsis. I was very pleasantly surprised. This is definitely a YA book. The heroine is 17, about to become 18. She's extremely smart, but some of her emotions are a bit immature. The story was engaging- I continued to read to see what would happen next. There were a few unanswered questions I had by the end of the story but nothing that affected my rating. My only struggle was that she was so young compared to the dragons that were competing for her hand. Otherwise, great story!

This was a great YA Fantasy Romance complete with dragons. While the book did have some predictability and the main. Hats tee had some incongruities, the writing style was lovely and the story moves at a good pace. I would recommend this for fans of the genre. Melissa Ricketts is a great storyteller.

this was a really unique read, the characters were great and I really enjoyed the use of dragons and royalty, I'd love more in this universe.

If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I totally would! I ADORED THIS BOOK! From the premise, to the characters, the world, and of course, the dragons!

I have followed Melissa on Wattpad for a while now, and was always intrigued by her stories of Dragonwall, but had never picked them up until now. And man, was I missing out!

I loved Lena’s character and her arc, especially when she met Tristian. He just seemed like her rock, someone who could keep her grounded. The progress in their relationship was a beautiful thing to witness. Overall, I loved this story! I can’t wait to check out Melissa’s other books as well! I will definitely be adding this to my wishlist! I need a physical copy! I think the fact that I finished this in 3 days is proof that I enjoyed this book.

If you are a fan of the Selection series and The Inheirtance, pick up this book, you won’t regret it! Thanks to Netgally and Melissa for sending me an e-arc! Definitely gained a new favorite author!

I’ve also made a fan cast, if your interested feel free to check it out my Bookstagram! (@theenchantedshelf)

The first half of this book is not as great as the second half. The first section dragged a little, but once it moved to what seemed like part two it definetely got much better. Overall, enjoyed the book.

First off I want to say huge thank you to the publisher Melissa Ricketts -BooksGoSocial , the author Melissa Mitchell , and to NetGalley for letting me request and read it, and can I say it was the cover that caught my eye in the first place . So lettings get in to what of I thought of the book, first off if you love dragons then this is right up your ally, second if you've ever read the book series The Selection ( which I haven't but I know what its about ) then you might want to check this one out because its in my opinion way better because it has dragon shifters in it and a main character that known's her own mind and what she wants.

A really enjoyable YA fantasy read. While the plot was a bit predictable that doesn't mean I enjoyed it any less. It truly delivered on the Selection meets Gladiator comp.

I received a copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review! I thought the plot was really exciting and had a really good premise. The beginning was really good, and fast phased, and then it kind of died. The middle of the book as slow, and I had to put the book away for a long while before picking it up again. The last 25% of the book picks up again, and had a really exciting ending.
The characters are likeable, and I really enjoyed them. I think Princess Lena matured nicely through the book and ended up as a woman at the end of the story. I’m looking forward to see where this series goes next!

A wonderful look into Dragonwall's history that we only got glimpses of in the main series. A perfect read while you wait for our hopefully soon to be bonded pair to get their butts in gear!

Thank you to NetGalley and BooksGoSocial for this advanced copy which I received in return for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. Lena is a the crown princess and she has been trained to rule her kingdom, but to hold on to it she has to find her mate among the dragons. That is what actually drew me to this book was the mention of dragons. There is just something that draws me in and wants to learn more about their world. There is a lot of pressure on Lena's shoulders and she is a warrior and she is not going to go down without a fight. The world is amazing and the characters want to know more about them. This only the first book in a series. I love Tristian and wonder what decision Lena will make. I will have to read the next book to find that out.

Thanks so much to #NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review For the Crown in exchange for an honest review.

I was approved for this book on #NetGalley months ago and thought I missed downloading the book prior to it being archived, but I found the ARC this past week and am so happy I was still able to read it. I LOVE the concept / idea behind this book series and can’t wait to read the sequel when it’s published.

The book had a strong start and my immediate reaction was that the early parts of the book reminded me of a fantasy version of The Selection series... plus there are DRAGONS 🐉😍. I really liked the idea of the human-form-Dragons and some of this in a different way reminded me of Avatar. This series has so much potential as the world / concept felt original with lots of room to grow expand on the world. The main character Lena is young, silly, naive and sweet and her voice and point of view are geared towards a younger YA audience than some YA reads (aka clean PG read) and I’d recommend this novel to every lover of YA fantasy. Some of how Lena talks / the story is written actually remind me of how I felt reading Throne of Glass book number one so I can’t wait to see what happens in book number 2 of the Dragonwall Royals series.

I think what mainly held this back from being a 5-star read for me is that the lead characters voice was a little too young / naive for my tastes BUT I think her voice fits with a teenager or even a book I would have adored in middle school.
I also didn’t like the title of the chapters as they gave too much of the story away. For example the chapter titles “Daryn’s Beating” or “Tristan Goes Away”... I knew what was going to happen in those chapters so it spoiled it for me a bit.

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️✨(SO close to 4-stars!)

I really enjoyed this story! The plot was engaging, the characters fun and interesting, and it kept me hooked the whole way through. The biggest issue I had was with the pacing...I really felt like it could have been a few books, rather than just one. It just seemed to jump so quickly from the failed Bachelorette-esque part, to the tournament and other events. Thus, while I really enjoyed the characters and thought that Lena had a lot of character development, I would have enjoyed seeing it more in the others, and more of the other characters in general, however, there just isn't enough time to cover that much in one book of that size. I was torn about rating it a 4 star, but after realizing it is a standalone prequel to another series (which I plan to read), I'm going with 5, since I really did enjoy it and it is quite thorough for a prequel.

This was really good! Lena and Tristan was so good as characters, but their chemistry was off the radar. Plus the whole dragon consept was done beautifully!

It reminded me of the Bachelorette meets the Selection series. A book where the main character has a lot of growing to do, but don't we all.

This book was an interesting and relatively unique read. The narrative of the book unfolded with a perfect balance of suspense and emotion that left me on the edge of my seat. The character development was interesting and the protagonist was relatable. Overall, I would defintely recommend picking it up.
