Description

A heartwarming story of two people who were meant for each other.

Soohyuk: a pediatric emergency medicine specialist. A man who never eats something someone else gives him.

Soohyuk, the tyrant who rules S University Hospital’s pediatric emergency room. He only cares about treating sick children, whether or not that gets in the way of advancing his career. He, a grouch to everyone aside from the patients, suddenly starts noticing a woman: the woman who feeds him.

Yuna: a chef who makes boxed lunches. A woman who panics and collapses whenever she meets a man, due to trauma from her past.

Wanting to do what she likes rather than going off to college, Yuna opens up her own business that specializes in boxed lunches, A Tasty Meal. She gets scared when one day she sees the tall Soohyuk standing outside her restaurant, but she soon learns he is only drawn to the delicious smell. And, somehow, she comes to be in charge of his everyday meals.

When Soohyuk meets Yuna, a confident, surefooted woman who gets startled and scared when he comes near, he wants to know everything there is to know about her.

“Did you collapse because you don’t like me? Or are you scared of men?”

A heartwarming story of two people who were meant for each other.

This book was so cute and lively. It is the perfect book to read at any time of the year when you are wanting something light. I really enjoyed the setting, character set up, and overall execution of the story. I can't wait for book 2!!

THIS BOOK IS AMAZING!!! I absolutely loved the start to this series and I’m already craving the next book. I NEED IT. The story revolves around a blunt and cold doctor who only ever shows kindness to his children patients and a chef who has a fear of men. Doctor Soohyuk is known for being extremely cold towards people but an amazing doctor, yet he wonders upon Yuna’s restaurant and just can’t seem to keep away from her. Both characters are complex and have deep traumas, but they find that they both seem to feel more at ease around the other. I absolutely fell in love with these characters and this story, I can’t even begin to say how sweet their slow love story is. Honestly, this book has it all, emotions, a soft romance, and of course my favorite kind of romance: a grouch who is only soft for the person they like. 10/10 stars. I am so amped to read the next book and continue on their journey!

This book was super cute and fluffy, I loved the rep! If i could compare this book to another it would be The Hating Game. The protagonist was likeable and bonded well with the love interest. It wasn’t my favourite book in the world but i did really enjoy it and finished it in two sittings.

This was such a fun and amazing book! It really started off the series with a bang! I am already looking for the next book!
The story revolves around a blunt and cold doctor who only ever shows kindness to his children patients and a chef who has a fear of men. Doctor Soohyuk is known for not having great people skills but being an amazing doctor in his field. He wonders upon Yuna’s restaurant and just can’t seem to keep away from her.
Both characters are complex and have deep traumas, they seem to find a safe space with each other. I absolutely fell in love with these characters and this story. This is truly a love story. A low to trust and love story. Honestly, this book is strong on the emotions, a soft romance. This is absolutely the grump who can only be light when he is with the other half of his heart. I can’t not wait for book 2 to see where their journey leads.

A very sweet love story, soft but lively at the same time. Just the Two of us builds on a romance that burns until it's a supernova. It also handles the trauma very well, and resonated with me immensely. Really excited for book 2!

A great read - I can't wait for the next book.

Soohyuk and Yuma meet when he moves to Korea to work in the hospital for a couple of years. Both are interesting characters and have issues in their past they are trying to address.

A quirky and different read.

I absolutely loved this book. The writing was quite quirky but in a fun way. I'm not sure if it's the way it was translated but it worked! I loved it. The story was great, I was a bit unsure with the start of the book, he came across as cold but I soon warmed to his quirky mannerisms within a few pages. I'm looking forward to reading more from this author.

Ryu Huang definitely keep my interests high with Just the Two of Us. I enjoyed the evolution of his characters and the book was a light read after an emotional week. I enjoyed that this was a love story that involved breaking down some barriers and allowing yourself to trust again. It was a great read for election week and I would definitely read book 2!

📖 "Just The Two Of Us (Book 1)" by #RyuHyang (Translation by @poppypubus)

⚠️TW: Trauma Related Content.

🩺 Soohyuk Cha is a Pediatric Emergency Doctor living in the US when an incident occurs that becomes the deciding factor in his decision to take up a 2 year residency in his homeland Korea to seek out answers.. Answers to who his birth parents were? Why can he not remember anything past a certain age? Why did they give him up? Not to mention he needed to escape the guilt his adoptive mother had been trying to make up for after he was subject to abuse by his adoptive father.

🍳 Yuna is a Small Restaurant Owner whose business specializes in Boxed Lunch deliveries. She was orphaned early in her childhood and experienced a major trauma that caused her to suffer from severe social anxiety and PTSD making her unable to be in confined spaces or around people, specifically men. She spends most of her time either in her small shop preparing the meals to be delivered or helping her brother & sister in law care for her nephew.

🥢 The story has a gang of supporting characters that give the novel a multidimensional feel as the writer takes you into the mind of every character so you get a complete understanding of what is going on within the many layers of the story and the mystery surrounding Soohyuk's past.

🇰🇷 The book reads like a Korean Drama so if you enjoyed KDramas like "What's Wrong With Secretary Kim?" - THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU.

❕The book does end on a cliffhanger but lucky for you, BOOK 2 in the Series is dropping MARCH 9, 2021.

Thank you to Netgalley and POPPYPUB for letting me read this book in exchange for an honest review!

Soo-hyuk was found as a little boy without any memory of his previous life, so he was sent to the USA with a family. Luck was not on his side but he became a doctor anyway. As his last girlfriend cheats on him, he decides to go to Korea and find his true family. There is where he meets Yuna for the first time, the only person whose food Soohyuk can eat without feeling ill.

They developed feelings for each other, although Soohyuk's wrong way of speaking the language creates a lot of misunderstandings, and are probably the cutest couple I read in 2020. Soo-hyuk has a special way of acting, he is aggressive with everyone and doesn't hesitate against the ones that are not doing their work right in the hospital, which explains why he doesn't have any friends before knowing Yuna.

The story is not just about Soohyuk and Yuna but has side-stories such as the one of Yuna's nephew (which I will say nothing about, you will have to discover it reading the book) and Soohyuk true family, which is not confirmed but I am quite sure of who are them because of their protagonism in the book together with their story, which makes me quite sure of how things happen.

What I love more about this book is that it is not just a romantic comedy but it talks about some issues that people can suffer in their daily life. As a person who is used to see K-Dramas, I have to say that this book reminds me a lot of one of those. I really needed a romantic book with more than just a love book, but a full story that brings the characters together and builds their way of acting and behavior, which makes all the characters really well polished, and this book was it.

The only thing someone could say against it, an opinion I don't share but I can understand, is that the love story happens slowly in comparison with what we are used to, but I found that this helped a lot with getting to know the characters and being able to empathize with them.

To sum up, I enjoyed this book from the beginning until the end, the characters are well written and have an incredible story building behind them. I can't wait to read the next book in the saga, because the ending is not even close to being closed.

I was drawn to this book because the cover looked so lovely. The romance inside was even better! Such a sweet and fun read.

Actual rating: 4.5/5

Just the Two of Us is the first book in this series. It is set in Korea and has two points of view: Sookyuk, a pediatric doctor, living in Korea for two years with the plan to search for his birth parents and Yuna, the chef of her own restaurant that just delivers home-made meals.
First of all, the two main characters had amazing and powerful background stories and their emotions felt just so real.
As well as that, the plot was astonishing although a bit slow. And last but not least, this book made me laugh more than I can count: it was hilarious even though some heavy themes were &approched.
Overall, this book was great and I can't wait to read the sequel to continue on with this story and these characters.

As a fan of Korean dramas I can't be more than happy with the book.
.
From the first chapters I knew where the story was going but I was surprised by the development of each character, the beauty in the structure of the plot and the complexity of feelings expressed in simple actions. Just like the best kdrama, you have to wait until the chapter five to get entangled in the story
.
With a melodic prose that slowly fills the story and leads the reader to the long-awaited ending, pleasantly surprising them, making you laugh and smile.
.
I really enjoyed this book very much and was hopeful to get to the end of the story but it's not a standalone and I'm going to have to wait for part two.I love both protagonists and I feel that any reader can feel related to any of them.
.
Thanks to #NetGalley and POPPYPUB letting me read #JustTheTwoOfUs in exchange for my honest review, i'll be looking forward to the next book

This book is perfect for anyone who likes K-Dramas or Grey's Anatomy, but I must warn, it's not a stand alone even though it doesn't quite end on a cliff hanger. The leading man was a sensitive young boy who suffered in this world till he became a rigid doctor but a strong sense of duty to the children he treated, but no cares for anything else, including his own emotions. The leading lady has had some hard knocks in life as well and still managed to make some of her goals and dreams come through with hardwork and a loving brother.
The medical drama is really engrossing, so is the description of food that feeds the soul.
The prologue was a little confusing and hard to follow, but that also reflects how confusing Matt is to the people around him and is probably due to being a translation. The rest of the book more than makes up for the prologue and I found myself sad when it ended. I feel extremely invested in the lives, trials and tribulations of the characters who are so multifaceted. The blossoming romance is what I'm look it forward to the most in the sequel as well as certain revelations hinted at in this book.

4.75/5 stars!

When the hero returns to his native Korea to find information about his birth parents, he encounters the heroine when he was in dire need of food. Though an advocate for his pediatric patients, his cold demeanor takes some getting used to from the pediatric emergency room department in the Korean hospital. There are subsequent focus on the heroine's family as well as the dysfunctional family of the hospital director. As the story progresses, the hero and the heroine fall for each other while trying to overcome some personal issues of their own.

For those not familiar with Korean novels and drama, the format and focus differs from how an American novel is usually written. And translation from the original language to English may have instances where the nuance is familiar to the original audience but not to ones who read the translation. Therefore, bear that in mind when reading this book.

As for my personal thoughts, I adore this book. I read the story like it was a K-drama but in book format. It definitely has some K-drama elements and the format is not what I'm used to but I had encountered glimpses of Asian novels to recognize that it's normal for the original audience. That said, I enjoyed reading about the couple together and individually as well as the secondary characters in the book. I felt that some situations were going to need some closure, so I look forward to reading more of the series. I feel invested in the relationship of the main couple and want them to be truly happy. I definitely feel that this is a great step in bringing the Korean novels into the wider world and recommend it for readers who enjoy K-drama plus wanting to enjoy original Korean novels but in translation.

This book was one of my favorite books that I’ve read this year. And I say that even though this was only part one of the story. Usually I would steer away from something that ends without a final resolution, but this book was that good.

The characters were multidimensional and the plot touched me so deeply. Plus, I enjoyed reading about a different culture and setting - Seoul, South Korea. The main male protagonist, Soohyuk Cha, seems to be somewhere on the spectrum. He’s a ferociously dedicated doctor in the pediatric emergency room in a hospital in Seoul. But he has a sad and troubling backstory that explains some of his quirks. He is attracted to Yuna, a young woman with her own very sad backstory who had risen above her fears to launch a successful business providing her subscribers with box lunches. (Though I did wonder how she delivers dozens of box lunches given that she doesn’t want to ride in cars, but that was just a small plot element.) Soohyuk is first attracted to the smells from her business and her delicious foods, but soon finds himself falling for this woman with her mix of courage, kindliness, and fears. And he soon finds ways to help Yuna’s beloved family. And we are soon learning about the backstories of some other characters in the book,

I picked this up to read last night and suddenly I looked up and found that hours had passed. I couldn’t put it down. And the characters and their story have stayed with me since then. I eagerly anticipate finding out what happens as the the author resolves some of the questions remaining.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book that I received from Netgalley; however, the opinions are my own and I did not receive any compensation for my review.
