Description

"Funny, zany, the right amount of cheeky and answers that BIG question - what is really going on with 'Boy Band hair?'" - Jenny Pearson, bestselling author of The Super Miraculous Journey of Freddie Yates

Four best friends, two boybands, and an evil uncle with a monstrous secret - what could possibly go wrong? KID NORMAL meets BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT in this hilarious new series for 8+ readers.

This story begins with a snoring pug, a forgetful grandma, and the hero of this adventure in a really bad mood. There is also a goose on the loose. We just wanted to warn you.

Jamie McFlair's favourite band got a slot performing on the country's biggest talent show, but it went wrong thanks to Barry Bigtime (in an 'incident' involving a chocolate milkshake and worn underpants - don't ask).

Barry is a music big shot, all round nasty man...and Jamie's Uncle. The next day, he launches his own massive new band and Jamie smells a rat. With the help of three trusty best friends - popular Daisy, no-nonsense Jenners, and timid Mel - Jamie vows to uncover Barry's dastardly plan.

But Jamie doesn't know about BARRY'S SECRET. A secret that is TERRIBLE and SHOCKING and VERY STRANGE. There's something hidden in Barry's basement - a machine that is the key to his musical success. But what happens when the boyband generator goes wrong? We'll give you a clue: it is NOT GOOD and THE ENTIRE WORLD is at risk. Can Jamie stop Barry Bigtime before it's too late?

When I first saw Jamie McFlair Vs The Boyband Generator online, I was completely sold. The strength of the packaging had me adding it to list without even reading the description. It looked wild, wacky, and all sorts of absurd fun with an intriguing title to boot. Needless to say I had no idea what I was expecting and and was left happily surprised.

Jamie McFlair and her three best friends are huge fans of the youtube band BNA so you think they'd be excited when the band lands a big break to appear on Big Time (think Britains Got Talent). Instead the group has a sneaking suspicion something is dreadfully wrong. The man in charge of the program, Barry Bigtime, is Jamie's uncle so they know first hand the man is bad news.. Little do they know Barry is worse than bad news, he's positively evil news! With his finances in the red, Barry needs to create a new boy band to keep his lifestyle and status. In the past he's used a contraption to create them but when the latest goes wrong he needs to come up with a new plan quick. When he realizes how talented BNA is he sees them as a threat to his music empire and sets a terrible plan in motion with the help of his mutated minions. Good thing for the musicians that their devoted fans (Jamie and friends) will risk anything to keep them safe,

This was an utterly delightful wild romp. I really had no idea where the story was going to go and was surprised at the introduction of Barrys minions. The story was full of danger, intrigue, and had a great Saturday morning cartoon vibe to it. Though I wasn't up on all the tech, I really enjoyed how relevant it was for the intended audience that is better versed in a world of social media and coding. Mel and Grandma were standout characters with their sass and unique way of seeing things. Barry was also a favourite as he was such a ridiculous over the top villain to read.. Overall it was just a fun book that will bring joy to anyone who's ever been a fan of a boy band.

If Jamie McFlair and the Boyband Generator catches your eye for any reason, do yourself a favour and pick it up. You might be left with a few questions but it should leave you smiling. A fun cartoon vibe children of all ages are bound to enjoy .
