Kawaii Kitties: Learn How to Draw 75 Cats in All Their Glory by Olive Yong is such a fun book!! I love how it’s all broken down step by step line by line how to draw each of these cute cats. All the different cat illustrations are great and some are really unique such as a burger cat! Right away as soon as I looked in the book I got my pen and started drawing some cats. I drew a fat mad cat and it turned out pretty good for my fists attempt. I’m excited to continue using this book and draw some more cats!

Kawaii Kitties is just as cute as its name suggests. This book is beautifully presented and features a huge range of cute cats, each broken down step-by-step so you can draw them yourself. The range of expressions is fun, and there are even some pre-drawn cats at the back for you to colour. This is a great book for the artistic cat lover, whether you are looking to decorate your bullet journal, draw handmade greetings cards, or simply sketch your favourite animal for fun.

I just love cats, I just love kawaii, I just love drawing. Or well, I used to draw a lot. But these days a bit less as I just got other hobbies. But whenever I see a book like this? I just cannot resist and have to get it.

This one shows you how to draw 75 kitties! From Catgo (dango kitty) to The Foodie to The Lucky Cat to The Chewer. There are many adorable and cute cats and I was regularly aww-ing and oooh-ing and laughing as well because some of these kitties were doing some funny things. I loved the variety in all the kitties. The author/artist really did an amazing job.
The book is separated into themes, we first begin with basics (facial expressions and colourings and more) and then follow various themes like food, playtime, etc.. I loved that each theme had a cute cat comic/illustration!

The drawing instructions are very easy to follow. Easy little steps.

I love the kitty colouring pages at the end! Definitely want to print that one out and get colouring.

All in all, this was just tons of fun. I haven't tried to draw kitties yet, as I just don't have any drawing paper around, but as soon as I do I have a couple of kitties I want to revisit and draw. Or try to. :P I would definitely recommend it to all the cat lovers and/or all those who like to draw some cuties.

A very, very kawaii guide to drawing the most adorable little kitties in the entire world. Books like these make me wish I had some drawing abilities, and, with the directions in this book I managed to draw an OK kawaii kitty...it's nowhere near as good as any of the examples in this book, but still! You, too, can draw a kawaii kitty!

I think this book is FANTASTIC! I love all the kawaii cats. I actually ended up using some of these tutorials to make some holiday cards and stickers for my family and my students. Most of this book consists of step-by-step instructions, but the author provides a short foundation for cat shapes, which makes it all the better. There is also a page with cat expressions, giving you everything you need to create your own kawaii kitties. There is also a chapter on different cats and their types of fur.
Overall, a cute short book!

This book is just adorable. I can see a primary audience being fans of Yong's artwork, or Kawaii in general, but it also has a great potential to appeal to readers like me who did not know about Yong and simply were attracted to the book based on the cover and description. The instructions are well done, with examples and text explaining each step. Although this is very different than my own art style, I was inspired to draw these for my students to bring more fun to their grading sheets.

I have to confess that I am a cat lover and as soon as I saw this book I said "I must read it" but I did not expect that it was a guide to be able to draw super cute kittens since I had chosen it without reading the synopsis but even so I entered Let's see what roll with this book and I have to tell you that I liked it.

The book despite being short and very clear, that is, it is in a few words like a guide to draw super kawai kittens that are chubby and with expressions that will leave them melting and it is that despite containing a series of steps to achieve the drawing is very exact the way it is explained and the use of words are simple and very precise. This super cute book is originally in the English language but uses a super basic level English and I think that any reader who likes to draw or kawai animals will love it.

One point that I think should be strengthened about this book is to use a little more variety of drawings because what I was observing is that they only teach how to draw the most basic expressions or movements, such as a kitten eating a fish or lying on its mouth down; I say it is not bad that they have added them but I believe and think that they should have added more to have a more diverse and very, very varied panorama of the drawings. What I did notice and I loved is that each drawing he shows you to do is about a different kitten, they give us different colors, breeds, sizes, adding fluffiness to this. Well, I can only say that if you love drawing and cats, this book is for you.

This is a great book that takes you through step by step on how to draw Kawaii Kitties. I had not heard of the author before but I now follow her on social media. I have attempted to use her techniques with some success and considering I am not at all "arty" this is a compliment to the way the book takes you through the process step by step. Highly recommended for artists and non artists alike.

This is a great book for those starting out or wanting to improve their drawing skills. With these wonderful step by step guides anyone can draw these cute little kittens giving them sweet characteristics that animate your pictures.

My goodness this book is so so cute. I had such a big smile on my face when I was flipping through this. I'm currently in the process of doing an illustration for my sister-in-law who just bought a new house. It'll be a housewarming gift for her and her boyfriend and they have two cats. Kawaii is a style of art that is adorable and endearing, whatever its subject. That said, those who love cats are certain to enjoy this title. It features felines at play, being curious, eating and more. Those who spend time with this book will learn how to draw many delightful cats. Each of them, as for example, the observer or the runner is broken down into easy to follow steps for making one’s own drawing. The book even includes a couple coloring pages at the end. This is a book with step-by-step tutorials on how to draw the adorable, extremely cute cats by Olive Young, who has an adorable comic series called Bichi Mao on Tapas. The drawings are so sweet and wholesome that they really inspire you to try drawing the 'Kawaii' style cats.

This would be the perfect gift for someone who loves to draw and loves cats. The cats are adorable and the instructions are very detailed and seem easy to follow. There is also a lot of variety in the cats themselves. Kawaii means cute in Japanese and that is exactly what you get.

Easy to follow instructions. I realized after the fact that I definitely had a theme in the ones I tested out, going with “The Box Tester”, “The Snoozer” and “The Dozer” as my first three. My test sketch issues were with me/my skill level and not the instructions.

Kawaii Kittens is a cute and charming art book aimed at teaching people how to draw adorable cat illustrations. The instructions are easy to follow and although targeted towards a younger audience, the book will capture the imagination of everyone. The pages are filled with bright colours and charming illustrations of various cats in there daily adventures, along with a couple of funny tails to go along side the illustrations. The book is divided into easy to follow sections, allowing the reader to skip to the directions for the type of cat, or feline activity they wish to draw.

The only criticism I could possibly think off for this book, was down to the format I had selected to read it in. I had the pre-published E-book edition of this book (I am unsure if when published it will be adapt to E-book or not). When in E-book format the pages are set to display 2 full pages simultaneously, this means the reader has to zoom in and often the resolution of the images is lost or pixilated. I haven’t marked the book down for this, as I believe it was designed to be a physical book only.

Overall I loved this book and would recommend this for both artists old and young as the kittens featured in the book will brighten any day. I am looking forward to using this newly learnt style of drawing to capture my own cat’s mischievous adventures, and will most certainly be gifting this book to all young, budding artists I know for birthdays/Christmas.

I love this book. It offers clear instruction on how to draw a wide range of cats. Each cat is given a step by step approach that is easy to follow and to build upon. It also gives really useful tips and tricks as an added bonus. I would recommend this book to anyone wishing to use their quarantene time in a productive and creative way. I would also recommend this book to anyone into journalling and bullet journalling (decorating their own journals and planners).

The book is divided into 7 sections. Each one of them is focused on different topics, such as "being curious", "playtime", and so on. There are 75 step-by-step tutorials total. They're clearly explained, therefore, very easy to follow.

There are, also, some comics (cute illustrations of cats doing + nice/funny messages) between chapters.

Absolutely adorable! Perfect for cat lovers and/or people who like cute kitties (such as Pusheen the cat) and want to learn how to draw cats in this style.

If you like to doodle or draw; or even if you just like cats, this book may be enjoyable to you. Learn to draw all kinds of cats doing all kinds of activities. Such a cute idea for a "learn" to draw book. I would purchase this as a gift for an artistic friend who loved cats.

This is a fun little book! It has good ideas for drawing cute cats doing all sorts of things. You can use it as the basis for your own drawings as it has line drawing instructions (and some written instructions too) for different faces, shapes, poses and settings. There's also a section for specific breeds, and a little colouring-in section at the end.

I'm no artist, but managed to draw a few little kitties using the outlines provided - they were actually recognisable! I particularly liked the "Mermeow", the "Huggers", the "Family" and (bizarrely!) the "Kitty Cheeseburger" - found in the true Kawaii-style section.

This would be a great book to keep your kids entertained - either with you drawing the kitties, or your kids doing their own versions!

A cute book describing how to create your own stylised kittens in the style of Japanese. The guide provides step-by-step guides for drawing cats in different poses.

I enjoyed reading through this instruction books. The first section talks about tools and the basic strokes you will need and it even gave you a place to practice.
The rest of the book talks you through creating a variety of cats that are so cute. I love the "comic" and quotes in between sections.
I would definitely recommend.

Seventy-three pages of cute Kawaii kitties fun. This Japanese form of cuteness started in the 1970's, and this book has 75 step by step lessons on how to draw the one in this book. The are catalogued under kitties playtime,daily activities, curious kitties, dress ups, bon appetit and the different breeds of kitties.
The instructions are easy to follow and in no time there will be enough Kawaii Kitties to take over you room. Once you know how it will be easy to create and develop your own ideas.

Identifying as definitely <i>not</i> an art person, [book:Kawaii Kitties: Learn How to Draw 75 Cats in All Their Glory|53916378]'s instructions were easy to grasp, and I was easily able to draw a good number of cats throughout the time I read through it. I put the book as one of my monthly challenges, so it's a good avenue to draw 2-3 cats a day throughout a given month.

I loved this book so much it had easy step by step instructions with pictures to draw the amazingly cute kitties. It was simple and fun.

This is such a cute book especially good for cat lovers who would like to try drawing kawaii cats.
The drawings throughout the book are very similar but there are very useful instructions at the beginning of the book on how to change the shape and expressions of the cats so the possibilities are almost endless!
I will definitely use some of the ideas from the book to decorate my bullet journal.

In this adorable how-to book, Instagram artist Bichi Mao (@bichi.mao) walks the doodler through 75 different Kawaii cats and their various activities. Each page contains either one or two tutorials with line-by-line simple instructions to create the most adorable cats you’ve ever seen.

I would share my own experiments here, but no one wants to see that. I’m terrible at drawing, but that doesn’t mean I’ll give up. This how-to guide is so easy to follow, even I can do it, even if my end results look NOTHING like the adorable, plump kitties living their best life in the pages of this book.

This is just one of the Kawaii Doodle series, and I’m determined to make my way through all of them, and them promptly burn all of my drawings. This installment is out in February, so keep an eye out for it.

Each design is broken into quite a few steps which is great for a beginner.
My kitten drawings are not as cute as the ones in the book yet, but the are recognizable as kitties. With just a few days of practice, they are getting better.

Kawaii Doodle Class had already been a hit for my kids, so they were happy to see Kawaii Kitties; especially my cat obsessed daughter. The instructions were very detailed showing body types; head, body, leg, and tail shapes; facial expressions; color markings; different activities, different breeds, and even food inspired kitties including kitty cheeseburgers, kitty macarons, and the catuccino. There are hours of enjoyment in this book and I strongly recommend it to anyone who loves or would love to sketch cute little kitties.

The author included a variety of how-to-drawings of kawaii kitties in different poses, outfits and food. The book is well sectioned and the in-between chapter drawings are a delight to the eye.

I find that this book is more towards children though, but can still be enjoyed by anyone

Honestly its a great book. If you want to draw but have no experience or aren't very good at it this book is great since it walks you through step by step. My only real complaint would have to be the price but if you can afford it then I recommend you buy this book.

Kawaii Kitties was just the book I was looking for. I've been getting into digital art recently, and I adore cats, so this was the perfect book at the perfect time.
The layout and presentation were gorgeous. There were a wide range of cats to draw, in various poses, set out in chapters such as 'Daily Activities,' 'Being Curious,' 'Discovering breeds,' and 'Bon Appétit.'
The instructions on how to draw various cats were super easy to follow. I've had a lot of fun drawing my own kawaii kitties, and look forward to drawing more.

If you were looking for a book for yourself or as a gift...and you were attracted by the book cover, just know that it gets even better inside. You will be able to learn how to draw all those those cover kitties and more, with easy, step-by-step instructions. The drawings are simple line drawings, so you will feel SUCCESS from the beginning.

So this book is suitable for all ages...from 5 to 105 (or more!).

The poses and expressions are graceful, humorous, and inventive. You will take your kitty-drawing talents to new heights. Trust me.

Super cute little drawing book with such great section titles! While the drawings are simple, I would not say they are at the basic beginner level more of a beginner intermediate level. Recommended for cat lovers and those who love anything cute!

I’ve been following Olive on Instagram for a while now, so was very excited to read this book! The opening introduces you to Olive and how her art social media platforms, Bichi Mao, were born. Then there’s a quick explanation on kawaii and what it entails, what mediums she prefers to draw in, and how one can use this book.

From there, we dive straight into learning simple drawing techniques! The techniques are broken up into chapters starting with how to draw cats in the same style, facial expressions, and in different positions. There’s also chapters dedicated to clothing, different cat breeds, and so on. At the end, there’s a few coloring pages for people with a physical copy of the book to practice coloring in the cats.

While I do think this is a fun and cute book, I think that people looking to learn how to draw might be disappointed when it comes to coloring the cats. The section on coloring is a single page and not informative, so I can see kids and anyone new to drawing getting frustrated. Otherwise, I think it is a cute book with simple and easy drawing techniques that won’t overwhelm people new to drawing. Plus, it’s great way for fans to support the artist.

Kawaii Kitties is an adorable tutorial drawing guide for all ages by Olive Yong. Due out 23rd Feb 2021 from Quarto on their Rock Point imprint, it's 144 pages and will be available in paperback and ebook formats.

There is a sweetly whimsical innocence about these kitties which just brings the smiles. There are 75 step by step tutorials with kitties doing adorable kitty things as well as fantasy kitties (mermaid kitty, cheering kitty, kitties in costumes - so many kitties). The tutorials are arranged thematically: general introduction with basic tutorials, playtime, daily activities, being curious, playing dress up, sharing love, discovering breeds, bon appetit, and some coloring pages.

The tutorials are very simply written with small achievable steps for a surprisingly detailed finish. I am a beginner with drawing and I was able to achieve credible results with these tutorials. They're a lot of fun to do. I would heartily recommend this one for gift giving (perhaps bundled with a sketch pad and some pens/markers?), library, classroom or makers' group. I would also recommend this book to babysitters, grandparents, parents, and basically anyone who spends a fair bit of time with small kids in order to up their 'draw with me' game.

Five stars. A truly happy book.

I'm teaching myself how to draw this year and so I've been looking at art books; if you're looking to learn how to draw cats this is definitely a really helpful resource. It covers basic sketches to movement tips as well as kitty-food! The author gives you super clear instructions on each new pose.

As someone who doesn't know how to draw, at all, I found the instructions to be easy enough to follow. I've already pre-ordered the title, I'll definitely be keeping this as a resource and reference!

Free netgalley book for review~. 3.5 ⭐️~⬆️ This is a cute book! Very simple art, but that’s the challenge. How much can you say with minimal lines and easy shapes? The book doesn’t go into details about coloring or shading, but the artist shows a small complete image with every cat, so you have some ideas to use if you need them.

If you like doodling, adorable art, cats and you are a beginner/need some hand holding this book is purrfect for you.

I was looking forward to the food and cat section toward the end but I definitely preferred the other sections in the book to this one.

As for the coloring pages, there are only two in the very back. You could make copies of these pages or use tracing paper to transfer the design. 🐈 🐈‍⬛

The cats are cute and the explanations are easy to follow.

This sweet little book is a fun and light exercise in drawing, a perfect pandemic mini-project.

The humorous writing style matches well with the drawing projects. The artist also gives an overview of their life, work and the 'kawaii' trend. Each set of projects is fronted with a full colour illustration.

There isn't much meat to this book - many of the drawings are simple and could be copied without a step-by-step tutorial, although the artist does break down the key components in a useful way. The next level would see this book add more details on shading, cartoon physics and backgrounds.

But for a basic starting point with a few fun projects, this book would work on a rainy afternoon.

My 10 year old daughter thought this book was adorable and wanted to draw some of the kitties. This would be a great gift and would be checked out often from the library. Anything that says Kawaii and Kitties can't be bad :)

My partner loves cats so I now I can surprise him with lots of little kitty doodles.

It's an easy to follow guide to drawing cats and very sweet to look at. Bright colours and pastel tones really help you feel wholesome and relaxed

I received this #NetgalleyARC a while ago and couldn’t wait to use it. This very cute guide to drawing cats shows how to draw some of the prettiest little kitties! I actually follow the artist’s drawing account @bichi.mao on my personal account so I couldn’t wait to get the tutorials on how to draw some of her cute little cat creations. There are a number of adorable cats in this book, like the many little heart cats I have drawn in my journal, a cat sitting on a little book, and even a little cat dressed up as a bumblebee! I can’t wait to draw some more of these little kitties to give to my friends or family and the steps were super easy to follow!

Kawaii Kitties is a book full of ideas to assist you in drawing your own kitties. It's a great introduction book for those wishing to begin to draw those cute kawaii images.

The Introduction explains what Kawaii is, explains how to use the book and what tools are required. It then begins with basic body, head, leg and arm shapes and provides details and arrow directions for drawing the shape along with space to practise yourself. Next it shows you were to place the facial features and provides a table of the different facial expression that could be drawn. Also included is a colour palette.

The book provides 75 drawings for you to follow to with the kitties being playful, doing daily activities, being curious, playing dress-up, sharing love, different breeds and food Each drawing comes with plenty of steps to make up the image alongside a description of the shape and its purpose. There are single kitties, others are pairs and some come with objects or as food.

At the rear of the book are 25 images that are fully drawn that could be coloured in.

A fun book which makes drawing cats easy.
I am a terrible artist but even I managed a passable looking kitty by following the simple process of adding one line at a time. Although I'll never be an artist, I feel that with this book and a little practice I could achieve great results.
Definitely one for cat lovers and those who would like to draw but are not skilled.

Olive Yong is the queen of cute. And her new Kawaii Kitties: Learn How to Draw 75 Cats in All Their Glory, is to-die-for adorable.
Yong, who is also the popular Instagram artist, Bichi Mao, showcases her talent for creating cute by offering lessons in how to draw darling kitties in 75 different positions.
It’s diabetic coma sweet.

I would highly recommend this book for anyone with NO drawing experience. The explanations are very easy to follow and give you a huge variety of Kawaii kitties. The kitties are SO cute. I had such a fun time reviewing this book! Thank you.

A super cute, fun book for all ages. As a fan of both drawing and cats, I was excited to see this book. There are 75 drawings broken down into simple steps. I have so far attempted 5 different kitties , which were all easy to do, and can’t wait to draw the rest!
