Description

Ever wondered how your antibiotics are selected?

Doctors and nurses stand at the forefront, but in the background lies the biomedical scientists whose work is very important in the treatment of patients.

Your Stools Are Safe in Our Hands is a satirical comedy about the yearly UKAS inspection. Readers will have to decipher fact from fiction as they discover the often laughable expectations that are placed on the small laboratory teams, who are working to full capacity. With too much emphasis on paperwork and with increasing budget cuts, important things like patient care can often become secondary in a department that’s pivotal to patient treatment.

Educational but humorous, Your Stools Are Safe in Our Hands lifts the lid on what goes on behind the scenes in the busiest hospitals.

As a nurse who has a secret passion for microbiology, this book was a fascinating find. I loved the way the author used humor to bring behind the scenes to the forefront. I agree that this critical science is often overlooked and misunderstood. I appreciated the author revealing what is happening behind the scenes. I have worked in busy hospitals and so many of these descriptions are spot on and great reminders to be patient and have realistic expectations with lab teams.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are my own, freely given.

Your Stools are Safe in Our Hands by Edie Watney Judd
I’m giving this book 2.5(round to 3 on Goodreads) Stars. I got this as an ARC from NetGalley. I learned some stuff about microbiology, but did you really need the drinking scene?
Rating: PG-13 for drinking and more
The whole story is okay to not great. The info I learned from this book saved it from being rated lower.
Formatting : 2 Stars for not great marking and few image captions.

A wildly engaging and highly informative read! Who knew that the identification of clinically significant isolates of fecal, urine, and sputum samples could be so fascinating? As the author, Edie Watney Judd so eloquently stated, “Lift the Lid” on the mysterious and life-saving world of a Bio-Medical Laboratory Scientist. Your life might just depend on it!
