The Unwelcome Guest’ was a very welcome addition to my reading matter – an utterly fantastic read with Amanda Robson's trademark sass and acerbic style heavily in evidence throughout this book.

Main character Saffron, a career woman, is wife to gorgeous academic, Miles and mother to two lively young boys. Mother in law, Candace, lives with them and will stop at nothing to spilt up Saffron and Miles’ marriage - believing that Saffron is unsuitable for her precious son. Consequently, she makes Saffron's life a living hell. Also playing a prominent role is nanny, Hayley, a young Kiwi, who develops an inappropriate crush! Events play out with unimaginable consequences in this modern work of contemporary / psychological fiction.

The writing style is totally unique and fantastically engaging. Amanda Robson’s books are distinctive with a unique selling point and very modern feel. she captures this through the narrative where each character directs their thoughts / narrative to another character. I have never come across this style before but it really works.

This is a book I can’t recommend highly enough – great story, superb narrative and heavily featuring those all important plot twists!

My thanks to NetGalley, author and publisher for the opportunity to review this book in exchange for an advanced copy.

Well, I can confirm that this book kept me on the edge of my seat throughout and it was well worth staying up till midnight last night to finish it. It gave me proper creeps, it’s fabulously written, the characters are believable and the books really gets under your skin.

Story revolves around the Jackson family. Caprice, the matriarch mother of Miles and mother-in-law to Saffron. Miles, the preferred son, the philosopher, a devoted husband to Saffron and father to their two boys Ben and Harry. Saffron, the lawyer, working mother, the breadwinner of the family, constantly critised by Caprice for not being good enough wife, mother and a woman. And then comes Hayleigh, the nanny, attractive, young girl with the hots for Miles.

As a reader you enter diary-style story from the point of view of Caprice, Miles, Aiden (Miles’s brother), Saffron and Hayleigh. Story of corruption, jealousy, love, strength and plotting. It’s fantastical, but highly intelligent and it’s a proper battle of wit, truth and trust. And every time you think you’ve sassed it, come another twist you didn’t expect.

Absolutely nerve-wracking book, that I kept thinking about every time I was not able to read more.

So this was just what o needed on a rainy day!! Deliciously dark, twisty and totally over the top, I couldn’t wait to get into this!
Written from plenty of POV - occasionally a smidge confusing - it tells the tale of the mother in law from hell - the daughter in law desperate to get her out of her life, the tidy husband who adores both of them - and the sexy nanny who wants a piece of him! I devoured it and instantly wanted more!!!!! Excellent read.

Well, I just LOVED this book. It was written so well that at times I could actually - if I really tried - see both points of view..... but ultimately it also brought me back to my senses. Great read, and I would highly recommend to others. In fact I have already!
Thanks to the Author, publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Oh this was good - takes mother in law from hell to a whole new level! I liked the way the story was told through the different characters and really liked the twist at the end! I haven't read the author before but would certainly do again.

It’s a brave person who takes on the subject of the dreaded mother-in-law, the reader could instantly dislike it! This book is written by a new author for me so I gave it a try!
Saffron of course loves Miles and her children, life is difficult with his horrid mother Caprice living in their home, she’s doing all she can to find a new daughter-in-law! Hayley is the new nanny, she moves in when other nannies have failed and Aiden, Miles’ brother, has his sneaky moments too!
I felt every tension, every devious plan and manipulation and wondered, how the mind works to scheme and meddle into others lives.
The plot is brilliant, superb and a book that all mothers-in-law should read, if you dare!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thanks so much to Avon Books UK for the opportunity to read and offer my review of this superbly written book!

This one was amazing ! Told at the first and second person singular - it completely makes the reader feel as if the main characters are talking right to you!!! Genius!
The relationship between MIL and DIL is interesting to watch! When the MIL sets her sights on the nanny to take over for her current DIL whom she thinks is not good enough for her son - we- the reader - witness evil at play !!
You will NOT want to put this one down until you read the last word!
This author is now an automatic buy for me :) thank you @ netgalley and to the publisher for this amazing read !!
